Most data not getting restored after re-flashing to CE1 - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

So, I just successfully re-flashed my US XZ Premium from its original, updated US firmware (R3B) to Central European 1 firmware (R2B).
Here's the thing, after following everything perfectly to the letter, I'm at the last step of attempting to restore all my data via Xperia Companion on Mac.
All of my backup data is on my Mac. I have a PC that I can tinker around with for a few days, but not much longer.
So, the problem is after trying to restore everything back to how it looked moments ago, it doesn't do much of anything. Home screen configuration isn't back to normal, settings aren't back to normal... NONE of my text messages are getting restored!
And there are NO errors!!! Nothing!
I'm grasping for straws here... Is it perhaps the Xperia Companion app on Mac hasn't actually been grabbing all my data when previously backing up this whole time or...?
I also noticed none of my apps had any data restored... They're all gone.
What do I do to properly restore my phone's data back to how it was before I re-flashed to CE1 firmware? HELP!!!

Bump...
No one here has an idea of what I could do to recover the texts maybe from the backup?

Have you tried posting on Sony forums/contacting Sony regarding your issue? I tried the backup & restore feature before, but never got it to work for text messages. It did work on apps and stuff.

Lost contacts, messages, call logs after installing Froyo 2.2[X10 Mini]

So I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and wanted to update it to Android 2.2 . I searched how to install xRecovery and succesfully installed Android Froyo 2.2 . I followed every instruction for the install but what I think destroyed me was Factory Reset on the xRecovery menu. After I selected it to back up my Android 2.1 it did succesfully so, I then pressed wiped all data BUT I had not backed up anything. Neither contacts nor messages nor calls. So after seeing on my succesfull that I didn't have those things I decided to restore my previous backup, thinking that all my data will return. Here it gets even worse! I selected Restore in the recovery menu and it restarted. But the phone was stuck at the SE logo and no matter if I restarted the phone, it would go there again. So I decided to get the Flashtool and restore my phone and now it has restored Android 2.1 and ALL the apps, notes, calendar events, contacts, messages, call logs are gone. And the worst is I did not even back up anything of these! I want them back so bad! Also xRecovery got uninstalled. Is there anything I can do or should I deal with the fact that I was an idiot and did all these crap? Please if you know a solution that can bring my data back post it now!
Thanks!
Please don't hesitate posting if you know anything about the subject.
I'm pretty sure you're screwed there mate, but for future reference, you should use Titanium Backup. It backs up all your apps, settings, contact information etc. As for messages and your call log, you can use an app called SMS backup, which will backup your call log and your SMS/MMS messages to your gmail account.
If you did a backup from xrecovery, you can restore everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) from your old 2.1 ROM incl. apps and calander and messages and whatever. You just need to reinstall xrecovery (I trust you know how as you've done it before) and go to the backup/restore menu and press restore and your previous backup should appear.
Try restoring it when you have the stock 2.1 ROM because I think sometimes going down doesn't work. Similar thing happened to me when I tried to restore my 2.1 ROM from 2.3 on my X10.

Thanks for your answer mate Well as I said I reinstalled xRecovery after flashing via PC to my old Android 2.1 which I am in now but instead of making a full restore, I selected Advanced Restore and restored the data. As a result, not only did nothing restore to my phone but it got the default settings again, you know when you open it for the first time. So should I risk a full restore or the same thing will happen?

Well, seeing that you know how to restore stock firmware w/ Flashtool, I see no harm in giving it a go. You can always go back if it goes wrong again

Okay I will try it now and I will tell you if it goes perfectly.
EDIT : Oh man it stuck again on the SE logo. Now I am reflashing it and after that xRecovery will be uninstalled. What the hell will I do now to get my data back?

Oh dear. I'm not sure what else you can do because if that was the only backup you made, I don't think much can be done. Maybe someone else might be able to tell you how to reflash your data by unzipping the backup file or something, but I can't really do much unfortunately. Sorry about that
Take this as a lesson. Always (and I do mean ALWAYS) backup data and things when you have to flash a new ROM or anything. Titanium backup is perfect for apps (and free too) and for data, I recommend MyBackup Pro. I've got the paid version, but I think the free version can backup your messages and contacts and all that data. Also, I think Android has the option to backup your contacts as well and bear in mind that MyBackup Pro isn't 100% perfect (e.g. it doesn't work properly if you have no gmail account attached, as I found out when I tried flashing a new ROM to a friend's phone) and that you can never have too many backups (although you do tend to fill the SD card with backups if you do too many ). Another user may be able to help you with retrieving data if you're lucky, but otherwise, you might have to move on as life must keep going on

Nevermind my friend. You helped me enough and thank you for this From now on, I will make sure I backup my files twice. As far as what will I do now, I will try to ask help to unzip my backup so I can get all my data again. Thank you very much, again. If anyone can help me reflash my data that would be grateful.

TB Restore of One S problems (warning)

Hey guys,
I recently bought an HTC One S. I came from an HTC Amaze 4G, and thus I backed up everything in Titanium Backup *AND* SMS Backup and Restore.
Thank goodness I backed up my texts in SMS B&R.
When I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device, I went to install TB and restore missing apps and all system data.
I have never had this happen before, but when I rebooted the phone afterwards it said "Loading" on the HTC Sense screen and stayed there forever. It asked a few questions like Facebook login, etc. but still remained stuck on "Loading."
I eventually gave up and decided to take matters in my own hands. I figured that it's likely HTC Sense 3.6 data files were not compatible with 4.0 to a degree to cause issues, so I went into settings and cleared out the data for HTC Sense, and rebooted the phone.
When I rebooted the phone I was finally able to go into the messages app. Turns out I had a new text. NONE of my text message threads were there!!!
I am restoring them right now with SMS B&R.
I don't think this can be an ICS thing because on the Amaze I restored a TB backup the same exact way to a new ICS ROM and everything was fine. Has to be HTC Sense.
Anyhow, I just wanted to warn you guys. Don't trust a TB backup by itself from another device to the HTC One S. It may not work.
I see no reason to believe it won't work if coming from another phone with Sense 4.0, however I would be cautious and AT LEAST backup your text messages with SMS Backup and Restore.
It's still in the process of restoring. I am thinking that should surely work, but until it's done we won't know for certain. Will be certain to update this thread.
PS: I know some of you believe that you should never restore system data when going to a new device/rom (even though this is my 2nd post I've been lurking for quite a while :-D (as a guest)). I prefer to have all my stuff restored. If it causes a problem I am willing to go back and re-flash the rom

you cant restore system data from one phone to another, Thats a recipe for disaster. Even restoring from one ROM to another is risky...
Only ever restore apps and app data, Not anything else.. Ive been using TB for about 2 years now.. Never had a single issue with it

@ azzledazzle, did u see this? )
yes i saw it, but i dont get why you like to restore system data...
there is nothing of use in it if you are restoring using the same ROM, the data will be in that ROM anyway.
If you are restoring on a new ROM, you cant restore the old data lol
you like to restore system data, yet if you have troubles you wipe and skip restoring data..
Why not just skip system data altogether ?
You sound like you have OCD or something

System data saves the wallpaper, all icons, folders, etc. in the native launcher, alarms, etc. etc. which is not restored with apps. System data also saves the text messages, and restores them WAY faster than SMS Backup & Restore.
I've never had a problem restoring them until now. I tried one time not restoring system data, following the advice of someone on here who said it was pointless, and ended up losing system stuff. After that, never again do I restore without restoring system data.

[Q] Problems with Clockwork Mod backups

The past few times I have restored a backup, the phone acts like it's the first time I've used it. Whats weird is all my apps are there less the data and I have to sign into my account again. Luckily I use Titanium Backup, so I don't lose data. But my screen setup is gone, my ringtones are different. This has all happened once I went to 4.2.2 with Carbon. I am constantly getting mismatched md5's upon restore (I fixed that). I have used CWM since Droid 1 days and never a problem!
Any suggestions?
Something else I just thought of, last week I couldn't get a gps fix so I flashed back one recovery and it worked perfectly. (gps, too) Today I tried to restore same recovery and same result apps but no data and screens back to stock.
Is the back up your trying to restore on on 4.1.2?
Surge1223
No all backups I have are 4.2.2

[Completed] Corrupted backup? Big problems

Hi guys, wasn't sure where to post this and I've been searching the web for hours without coming up with an answer with the best way to fix the problem I've got.
So yesterday my sister gave me her phone saying it was shat and slow and generally rubbish (S4 i9505 running 4.4.2). So I had a brief look at it and she had absolutely no room on the phone at all, it was completely clogged. So I deleted all the cache data (4 gigs!!), as soon as I did this the phone came back to life and started updating everything it could, then made a backup in CWM. Thought while I'm here I may as well put the official Lollipop firmware on it from Sammobile. All was good until I realised that she has never backed anything up to google or any other cloud storage (pretty dumb!) and all of her important stuff I couldn't get back.
So I then had to try and extract some data from the CWM backup... couldn't do it. I just couldn't find the files that she wanted restored. Mainly whatsapp messages and pictures and also Smemo. These are all she needs, there's really important memos apparently, why the hell she never backed them up or had another copy of them is beyond me if they were that important!
So I tried restoring just the data part of the 4.4 CWM restore to the 5.0 rom, looking back now I see this is where I went wrong and was asking for trouble.
So I then tried rolling back to the full CWM backup, all went well so I assumed and it said it was successful. This was until the phone booted. Constant spamming of gapps has stopped working, and no matter what I did I couldn't get it to stop, the phone was unusable with it constantly pinging up, every app was failing, and then it would turn itself off and reboot.
So I Factory reset again and wiped everything, installed the backup again, same thing happened again. Even tried flashing the latest version of gapps, but nothing had any effect.
So now I'm thinking oh feck... I didn't make a backup of the Lollipop install as I thought the rollback would have just cured it, and she had already started messing about with it, making it look pretty and getting people to send her some of the important files she had.
So I thought balls, tough luck and you'll have to start again, your fault for never backing anything up. So I reflashed Lollipop, and for some reason it wouldn't boot. Would just hang at the Samsung logo, this was 4am, I was panicking as I'd effectively bricked her phone. So after lots of boot loops and countless flashes I was looking on ebay for a new phone for her, then suddenly it finally boots on one of the flashes.
Anyway after a lot of faffing about, flashing 4.4 which worked, so flashed 5.0 again, and luckily it booted, I don't know what happened, maybe I missed something as I was so tired, so I signed her into google and let all the apps download while I slept.
Now the question is, I seem to have found a site that explains how to extract individual files vaguely, I just need to get the smemos and whatsapp files and I'm not entirely sure where to look and extract these files. Also, will they corrupt if I try to install them on the 5.0 firmware?
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm really in the stinky brown stuff.
Morning bump if anyone can shed some light on this :crying:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Have you tried using this tool?
[Tool] Cwm nandbackup file Extractor ( .img/ .tar files )
It should extract exactly what you need. If you're only reinstalling those specific apps with their data you should have no issues, just don't restore any system data, that's what caused your problems after restoring the KitKat backup on top of the Lollipop ROM.
No response in two days, thread closed, thanks.

Lost imei after factory reset and root

Hi guys,
I have a slight problem here, I was using my rooted with magisk and running lineageos17. Unfortunately, bluetooth wasnt working so I reverted back to stock, which fixed the bluetooth problem. I tried rooting the thing then with this method:
https://www.xda-developers.com/install-android-oreo-samsung-galaxy-s7-exynos/
Unfortunately though, this killed my imei. I tried restoring my efs partition with twrp; even tried reflashing the stock firmware, all to no avail, my imei is gone.
Is there any way I can restore it or have I turned my phone into a fancy paperweight now?
Would be cool if anyone could offer me some help,
best wishes,
derelektrischemoench
// edit: I managed to get twrp installed and was able to restore my twrp- backup which i had made before this whole endeavour and voila: the device is back online, has an imei and is able to connect to a network. Hell yea. Thread can be closed, I guess.
