so i got the stock firmware courtesy of honor... and i dont know how to install it.
ive done my google research and the guides tell me to put the UPDATE.app file onto the sd card whilst in the dload folder.. and open the dialer and type a number in then go to SD card update and when i do that instead of the EMUI recovery thing, i get TWRP.
i could boot into the erecovery menu but it will download stuff and doesnt give me the option to go off of microsd card... and i read on a couple places not to flash anything through twrp cause it could cause damage to the device, i.e bricking. and i dont know where to get a stock recovery... i saw the thread on here but it doesnt have the recovery for the BLN-L24 model of the honor 6x..
im really stuck and i dont know what to do... someone help please..
edit\\ can someone please explain what dload is? i did a google search and its download mode? something said hold down power up and down and plug usb cable into computer... i did that and it boots into twrp..?
someone help please

okay... well i downloaded the B366 build for my device from FF on android cause i couldnt figure out how to use the PC version.. and then transferred the zips to my computer, and did the whole Dload folder setup.. and when i went to install it from stock recovery, it would be stuck at 5% and after a few minutes it would just reboot..
so i dont think my phones stock firmware is installed.. i found some other guide where the instructions were to go on twrp and wipe all partitions and using fastboot, flash in boot, recovery, and system along with vendor (the .img files extracted from the update.app file),
and i did that and formatted the phone and stuff, and it booted to a setup screen when you first get it from the store or turn it on.. did that and my phone still doesnt work right, i.e cameras are disabled as snapchat or any apps with camera including built in app dont function, sound doesnt get produced no matter if it stereo speakers bluetooth headphones or phone call earpiece speaker, and no videos on any app will play back..
im not sure what to do now

I was in the same position as you the other day. My phone got recovered but was missing a bunch of things. It was only fixed with an OTA update.

When I made this I didn't really know much about the whole stock restoring thing with dload. What I meant about the sd card was, what people said to do, which was like hold all three buttons down (volume and power), for me it would go to erecovery and download something off the internet and format. Instead of going through the process kf installing the app file from the sd card . haha
I'm thinking about just buying a new phone. But I want to try to fix this one.

So where are you now in the process? Your phone boots but with a bunch of issues correct? Do you still need a dload explanation?
I understand dload for the most part. I got a b366 firmware from firmware finder. And it booted up with current issues still present. However this one doesn't have system update in the settings. Also found out I can't flash a rom. Well I can but it won't boot into it haha.

I know this is old but i know the fix. Your build number is incorrect. You need to flash a lower version.img than take an OTA update and youll be all set.
well is it fixed.you have to download two files one is named update.zip and is something like data_hw like that.first flash the update zip by extracting it and placing it in the dload folder and flash the second zip.only thing you have to make sure is to download the correct package or else it wont work.

Hello everybody, i'm having serious trouble trying to downgrade my honor 8 frd l09 to Marshmallow.
The sequence was like this:
I was trying to update to Nougat using several methods and the only one that worked was via de charles method, after using several responses one of them made it update to nougat to the NRD90M test-keys (it originally was FRD-L09C432B131) I though everything was OK until I realized that several apps where not working/missing (every finger id function besides unlocking, the updater app, etc.). The phone worked fine which made me realize one day that not every app was installed or working.
This made me decide to rollback to Marshmallow using this guide/files community .hihonor. com/thread/1700. It failed after the first step and started showing "Your device has failed verification and may not work properly".
So I tried to restore factory settings thinking it would at least install all the apps. This process stopped at 50% and now I'm stuck. I can barely use the phone now because it has very few apps, it doesn't even have the keyboard I can only use the voice command. (still this version NRD90M test-keys)
This is my situation now, can anybody tell me where did I mess up and how can I fix it?
Thanks.
I made the downgrade like 3 times and i had no problems, could you tell me what rollback package you used ?
I will write here what i've done, maybe you can find what you've did wrong.
1. Format SD Card
2. Copied update.app from that little rolback package in the dload folder on SD Card.
3. Flashed it. (Turned off the phone then holding Volume Up+Volume Down+Power Button to get into force update)
4. The phones restarted so i delete the update.app from the dload card an i put there the other update.app (From the B131 android zip)
5. Flashed it. (Turned off the phone then holding Volume Up+Volume Down+Power Button to get into force update)

Thanks for your asnwer.
I used this package from the honor website.
FRD-L09
1) FRD-L09 Rollback Package -
2) FRD-L09C432B131 Android M Firmware
I tried to flash the first one and it was when i started having trouble.

Are you flashing using the Vol up + vol down + power combination?
Do you have the file update.app on a dload folder on an external sd card?

Also make sure to use the key combo without the cable plugged to the phone. You can't go wrong, my phone was pretty much a brick and this method worked on it.

I guess your phone cannot boot, you need sdcard then
Download rollback package of your device ( i guess this one) http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=92130&version=360508&siteCode=de-h than download full firmware for your device( not ota update).it doesn't matter which version as long as its written full.
Refer this http://hwmt.ru/oth/HWFF/info/view.php?find_model=FRD-L09C432
Create dload folder inside sdcard, extract uppdate.app into dload folder.
Enter recovery by pressing all 3 buttons.
It will show you user reset.
Force shutdown the phone as your phone cannot boot because lacks of apps.
Replaced update.app from dload folder (sdcard) with update.app from your full firmware by extacting it.
Enter recovery again
That should do it.
I made what both said and had success this time. (which were the same I did the first time, don't know how I messed up yet..)
I still want to upgrade to Nougat, what is the best way? Eventually, will I receive the OTA ?

If you had the OTA notification before, you will have it again. Just boot normally, connect to the internet, open HiCare > services > early adopters.
The OTA update notification should pop up.
After updating to Nougat I suggest a factory reset.

I updated with charles 3 times and I had the same problem as you once. If the OTA package size shows around 2.38gb it will work fine. The one time I had the same issue, the OTA showed to be 1.38gb and after the update I had apps missing/non functional. See what you get this time and if it happens to be the full package.
Make sure you use a correct charles response from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/various-responses-charles-app-b360-t3541342
For me the following procedure was working marvellous:
Initial position: Android 7.0 having opened bootloader, bad working Root, bad working TWRP recovery, SuperSU and Busybox installed
intention (finish): the newest Nougat-FW with closed bootloader and no root-rights
1) First I deleted SuperSU and Busybox and flashed the extracted original honor-recovery from Marshmallow rom in adb
2) I flashed original rollback-package from Nougat to MM which I have downloaded from hihonor link. I put it in dload-folder in external sdcard, switched off phone and hold all 3 hardware.keys untill flashing was forced.
3) after this my Honor booted and I changed the rollback-package file to original Marshmallow-FW (from hihonor link) in dload-folder.
4) I flashed original honor Firmware Marshmallow the same way as it is told in point 2
5) The Honor 8 reboots and at this point I had absolutely clean Marshmallow without root and having the bootloader closed.
6) After about 30 Minutes and 2 or 3 reboots, hicare-app wanted me to upgrade to Nougat. I did.
- thats all. It took much time but it worked reliable on my Honor 8/European version (FRD-L09)
Thanks for all the replies. I'm now on frd -L09C432B131. I will try later to upgrade again with the charles method. I remember as you said that the previous update was 1.38gb, I will take that into consideration.
Thanks

Does Honor/Huawei officially post these update files? I didn't know there was 2 separate update.app files. I'm currently looking for them for my FRD-L04. I want to go back to Marshmallow. Having a hell of a time trying to get BT and NFC to work.

BT and NFC files are located in data_full_usa.zip(l04),
If you're going to root and twrp, its better save that file after you wipe data to f2fs format in twrp, than flash those data.zip file....BUT remember, we're already converted the storage to f2fs in nougat to access data storage and that will be pain in a** if you forgot to convert back ext4 format for rollback.
Just remember to convert back to EXT4 in twrp before rollback in MM, otherwise you'll loose everything, no recoveries and bootlooping. Fastboot stated as abnormal thou.
Edit: the wierd thing is, if we looked at data backup in twrp MM, it is f2fs format..

Where does this mysterious data_full_usa.zip file come from? I don't see it anywhere in this thread or on XDA? sorry! I believe I found it here: http://modfullandroid.blogspot.com/2016/12/how-to-update-huawei-honor-8-model-frd.html but just want to confirm since it's a strange site I've not been to. Honor's official page doesn't have this file, or "region patch".
Also, it's funny you mentioned that. I COMPLETELY forgot about reformatting the data partition. What I did to downgrade was flash the small UPDATE.APP from the official honor website, then flash the large UPDATE.APP. It seemed to bring everything back up on MM OK for me. Just sucks, because now I miss Nougat after having to go back to emui 4.

How can i recover BT/NFC?
You can explain in a simple way. Thank you.
Hello guys
My H8 is hard bricked. There is basically no rom, no custom recovery on the phone. So it's kinda useless. I already tried to flash TWRP recovery but that doesn't work, it flashes but the phone always ends up in a bootloop. Restoring EMUI 5 through e-recovery doesn't work either. So i'm basically stuck with a phone that doesn't work at all. I was on EMUI 5 and my phone is a FRD-L09. Can anyone help me please? I've tried everything I could but nothing seems to work. Please help me, i'm stressing out.
Thanks

Firstly you need to get the rollback package and the firmware for your phone from your countries Huawei's/Honor's website. Then you should unzip the files if they zipped while downloading. After that, you need to put the rollback dload package on the root of an SD card. Then keep on holding all the 3 buttons for some time, you should leave the keys after the phone vibrates and takes you to the installing screen or something((I cannot exactly remember). If you see it successfully covers the 100% then remove the rollback dload file from the SD card replace it with the firmware dload file and do the same thing that u just did. (it may take some time while flashing the firmware

I reverted to stock after messing up my BLN-L24. The ROM is a bit different than the one that shipped with the phone. Some apps are missing. The play store doesn't seem to detect updates even though they can be updated manually when searched. The phone also wont let me update to the latest version. The os it shipped with could update to the latest security update. The play store also says the phone is uncertified. Why is this ROM different? Is there any way i can force an update?

Don't u have any old TWRP backup which consists of OEM info, vendor, product, boot ???
If not, i think you have to use Huawei update extractor on US firmware
Twrp backup would have made the process easy and reliable
There is something very screwed up with the OTA updates for this model phone right now. Consider yourself lucky that your phone still works, I'm dealing with a BLN-L24 that is more than likely unrecoverable all due to some wierd firmware that the official updater installed on the phone on Christmas Eve. Its like the servers are sending bad firmware that isn't for this model but the phone accepts it since it's OTA.
If you haven't read it yet please check out my thread and tell me if you are experiencing anything similar since your OTA. Check out the 3rd post too.

I forgot to mention in my post that overall the phone ran extremely sluggish for a fresh update even though I have no idea what firmware was on the phone. All I know is it was completely foreign to me in all aspects....it was just very wierd overall and in pretty sure you know exactly what I mean since you said it was different.
As for uncertified in play store, try clearing app data for play store and see if it changes to certified.

I flashed the vendor, boot, recovery, and system images with fastboot and then installed the update through erecovery. First i flashed update.zip. Then i flashed update_data_full_BLN-L24_hw_usa. Im still missing all of the USA features. I know all of the apks are in the update_data_full_BLN-L24_hw_usa folder but they arent being put on the system. Is there something i could be missing? Also the install time for update_data_full_BLN-L24_hw_usa is rather short for its size. Is it just being skipped?

Yes by flash i mean using the dload method. I extracted the content of the update.zip and put it in the dload folder on the sd card. After that i put the files from update_data_full_BLN-L24_hw_usa folder into dload and run the update. When the phone boots i am taken to a rather boring stock setup without any bloat apps. Its missing default wallpapers and themes. The play store fails to detect that the preinstalled apps need updates. Its almost like a completely different phone. A completely different broken phone. The apps below should be on the phone
UPDATe: Got an OTA and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the help

I'm gifting my father in law an Honor 6X. I already unlocked the bootloader and rooted, but I'd like for him to be able to install updates when they're released. If I uninstall all the bloatware while rooted and then relock the bootloader, will root be retained? Will TWRP be removed? Will OTA updates be allowed? This is all on the stock ROM.

I believe you should be able to receive updates with the bootloader unlocked. The OTA might relock the bootloader and will most likely remove root. In order to update you will need to also have stock recovery installed so there would be no way for him to root again without unlocking the bootloader and flashing twrp.

Ok. He's clueless when it comes to even using stock phones, so I'll probably completely return the phone to stock and call it a day. Is there a thread floating around here to do relock, unroot, and completely return to stock?

That says it's for after you've flashed custom ROMs. I've never flashed a ROM on mine, only unlocked and rooted. Haven't even uninstalled any apps yet. Is there a quick way to relock and unroot?

Its also if you flashed twrp not only custom roms. You can uninstall root in the superSU app when selecting full unroot in the settings. I believe a factory reset can do it too. The next step would be to download the firmware for the phone and using fastboot to flash a boot and recovery image and then to lock the bootloader. Those steps are all in the link. That is the quickest way.

Damn, I was hoping it would be as easy as "fastbook oem lock" and be done with it.

There's a PC application called firmware finder. https://forum.xda-developers.com/tools/general/huawei-firmware-finder-team-mt-t3469146
You can download firmware finder on your phone too and download the files from there. It's on the play store.

Ok, downloaded the Firmware finder and I have no idea how to use it. Directions don't make any sense and I have no idea what I'm doing after entering in my phone model.
I'm trying, but this phone is so different from my old LG G2 to play around with.

When you get into the Firmware Finder(PC) app youll notice your on a tab labeled "Main Page". Click on the tab labeled "common base" and type BLN-L24 into the search bar at the top right and then click on FIND. A list of firmware will pop up. Find the one that matches your build number and then click on the link under the "filelist" section. There will be two or three different zips you need to download. When you have the three downloaded let me know.

Ok now extract the files from the update.zip folder. Then take the UPDATE.app from the extracted files and open it with update extractor: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
After that your ready to follow the steps on the other guide.
So I screwed up. Before you posted I unrooted via unSU flashable zip. Then I fastboot flashed boot and recovery to the stock one from the update.app file. Now it's got some verification error on power on and OTA updates fail. I tried moving the update.app to a dload folder on sdcard, but when it starts up it fails at 5% when restoring from the sdcard.
ETA: Tried the 360 FW which updated successfully. Booted and asked for password. After panicking shutdown and copied the HW contents to Sdcard and did the update again which succeeded. Booted and asked for password again and I panicked again. Pulled the Sdcard and booted into stock recovery. Wiped everything and then restarted crossing fingers. Started up like normal, no password request! So it looks like the phone is back on totally stock EMUI 5.0. I'll hope for the update and will try with fingers and toes crossed. Thanks for your help. I may be back, but hopefully not.
ETA2: There's no update option above the last About option in settings... How do I get the update option?

Edit: Before trying below steps. Just put the files from "BLN-L24_hw_usa"(b360) into dload folder and flash with dload. It might update the version.img without the needs for the steps below. if that brings the build number back to b360 use the hisui(PC) application to connect to the phone and update
Ok i forgot to mention something. The reason you dont have a update option is because you are on b360 which never had a button. Your build number on your phone will say b366 but thats incorrect. You cant receive an ota automatically because the phone thinks its already on the latest version. You need to take the UPDATE.APP from the "BLN-L24_hw_usa" (b360) folder and extract the VERSION.IMG file. It needs to be flashed with TWRP because fastboot wont work for some reason. That file will fix the build number and change it back to b360 so you can receive the OTA which will also restore the missing apps and features. That means you have to unlock the bootloader. Flash twrp. Flash the vendor.img with twrp and then do the dload method.
You have all the files and have done it already so this time will be easier. Ive done this way too many times with this phone. Sorry i forgot the mention the one step
Build number on my phone is already 360, and it has never been 366. Tried flashing the 360 like you said via dload and nothing seems to have changed.
Also the SIMtray eject tool seems to just go into the phone without ejecting the tray. A paperclip worked, but man this phone is really frustrating.

Oh ok my build number always got stuck at b366. Try connecting with the HiSuite program and getting an OTA. And yes this is the strangest, most difficult phone to work with that ive ever owned.

Wife made me box it up and ship to her dad, so I no longer have the phone. I did install the HiSuite when I first powered on the phone and it was never able to connect and see the phone, so who knows what's going on.
Thanks for all your help. I have another one, but I'm just going to sell it and be done with it. No idea what other phone I can get with the same specs for the same price that's not so difficult to flash, but I'll keep looking I guess.

Its not difficult. In order to connect to hisuite you need to enable developer settings and allow usb debugging or type hisuite in the settings search bar and click "allow HiSuite to use HDB". I got this phone for christmas and i already know a ton about it. It may seem complicated now but its really nothing.
I tried to install the beta OneUI from XDA for my ATT variant. I saw as I using Odin, that the firmware was for TMobile. Does this make a difference? I stopped the install, but I still want to go through with it. I just don't want to brick my phone. I have the Snapdragon processor needed. I just got freaked when I saw the TMobile firmware. Is it safe for ATT?
Got it from here
Has anyone installed OneUI? Did it work with this video?
So you know, you're not just installing OneUI, you're installing Android Pie Beta. OneUI is just the "rebranding" of "TouchWiz/Samsung Experience"
I havent downloaded the files shown in that link, but IF your device is already on N950USQU5CRK1 you dont need to Odin to anything all you need is the update.zip file to upgrade to 5DLR6. If you're not on CRK1 then you will need to Odin to it. That being said, you can go HERE for the files (post 2) and additional questions.

Thanks for the clarity.
I knew it was Pie. I wanted to try out the UI because it seems more conducive to taller phones and I like the dark mode.
I didnt know I didnt need Odin however. That's interesting. I am on CRK1, just checked. So if I understand correctly, just drag the update file over to my sd card, then flash the oneui file over it?
Have you tried it? Is it worth the time?

Yeah, if you're on CRK1 then all you need to do is to copy the DLR6 file (Update.zip) to your Ext SD, boot to recovery and "install from SD". This will wipe your device
Okay, update file first to the ext sd card, boot to recovery, then install SM-N950U_1_20181126150901_ouxwmh265r_fac.zip after.
Sorry for being a pia. I dont mind losing data, I just dont want to brick the phone with the wrong file. I want to be clear on the steps.

No worries at all. I am not familiar with that specific file name. I haven't ever installed from that link you posted. You can use THIS one. I'm familiar with this location.
But yes, copy file to Ext SD>Reboot to Recovery>Install from SD>navigate to Update.zip file and install
Thank you. Better safe than sorry.
is your wifi working cause mine wont stay on. It toggles to on but then shuts off. i think drl6 is better than dlr7

My experience with 6 and 7 are EXACTLY the same (the only issues I had were Netflix not displaying and AR Emoji not working). If you had done a dirty flash this could be part of your issue, try a factory reset and see if it changes things.

Maybe turn off the "Turn on Wifi automatically" setting in the Wifi > Advanced settings. And look in the developer options and see if the Wifi power savings mode is toggled on. There may be a few other settings to check too, just search wifi in the settings search bar and look through what you see that may seem like it could cause your wifi toggle.
So what if I'm not on CRK1 ....my ATT note 8 is on CRL1. can I still flash pie to my phone ? Or will it mess it up being tmobile?
