What's best Oreo rom for S8+ SM-G955FD? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Everything is in the title. I'm actually running Android 7.0 stock on my S8+ (955FD) and I want to give oreo a shot, but I'm confused with all the available roms available. I want something stock, with a minimum customization from developers, instalable through Odin or TWRP whatever, i can access both, and with the minimum issue possible.
Thanks for any advice.

Which emui/android version should I run ?

Hi
I just got myself this phone, I would like to know which software (android/emui) version is the best to run? In terms of minimum amount of lags/bugs, best battery management. I do not mind not having the lastest features as I only use my phone to call/text/browseinet/watch videos.
my phone version is the H60-L04V100R001C00B109SP01.
Thanks guys for your help.
Then I would not upgrade. The Android 4.4 the phone comes with is more likely your best option.

CM 11. If you don't know what that is or are unfamiliar with flashing custom ROMs, then just stay on whatever you are already using.

I know what cyanogenmod is but I don't like it, also I do not want to root or flash custom roms.
thanks for your advice tho
I'd say upgrade to the last KitKat ROM released for your model and stick to it maybe until Marshmallow stable becomes a thing. I wanted to downgrade to KitKat after getting Lollipop as in my opinion it was much better but just couldn't be bothered enough to actually downgrade to be honest.

Ok thanks, I'm atm on 4.4.2/emui 3.0.

Anyone ever get 4.4.2 official on GT-N8013?

Samsung never released 4.4.2 for the US but everywhere else kthe world they did. In Germany it hit in summer 2014 after the tablet was a little over 2 years old. In Luxembourg it got 4.4.2 less than a year ago. The latest update in the US was a security patch in late 2015. Samsung said the update would release the the US eventually but it's been over 2 years it's been out. Where is the damn update. I've been spamming support trying to get ahold of the team in charge because I want the official ROM because KitKat makes it way smoother and handle ram better and every app requires atleast KitKat now. I know I can flash custom ROM but that's not something I want to do on this tablet. So has anyone found a way to get n8010 KitKat on n8013. I always get an error in Odin. I'm looking for a n8010 device or motherboard for sale as well in case I can't get it in mine. Thanks
Its not listed for 8013 and i dont understand your released in Europe when its a USA cellular model .
I'll clarify, n8000 is cellular model, n8010 is international wifi, n8013 is Us wifi. It does up as Cellular South CSC but it's wifi unlocked. They all got KitKat except for the US wifi variant which I expected it would get first, don't know why the CSC is XAR but that shouldn't matter Samsung
As posted no update for 8013 .
Others yes see identical posts .
Yes I know I'm asking if anyone was and to get n8010 running on n8013 since they are same hardware, I hope Samsung responds

Samsung isn't here and they aren't going to support an ancient device and they won't support it more than they have when it was still relevant.
sammobile.com doesn't have 4.4.2 for the 8013.
There are a plethora of ROMs to choose from that will meet/exceed your requirements (well, the 4.4.2 part, not an 'official' 4.4.2).
I ran Omni for years; it's a wonderful ROM, only surpassed by the currently-maintained CM/Lineage 14.1 (Android 7.1).

I wanted official but I may give that up, I have never rooted and custom rom guides are way to brief I want someone to show me how to do it. Also do they have s pen support and all the apps and play store apps on custom roms, I want it also to be smooth as ****

Omni and CM/Lineage are far smoother than stock. Both have full S-Pen functionality (use Note Buddy app if you have to, has nice extras also) and both have full Play Store access (install gapps, per instructions) and with root, you can use F-Droid.

Marshmallow ROM's?

Hello XDA,
Are there any roms available still for this phone that run 6.0? I prefer to run that since Xposed isn't completely working with Nougat yet. Thanks.

I believe seeing US unlocked model Android 6 stock rom. I guess guys from dev section might have an answer. I have a link for many roms, but deleted it after moving to Galaxy S8.

Most stable, up to date and future proof ROM?

Which one is it? Most of the ROMs which have been posted here haven't got an Update for ages now, the only one which seems up to date is the Oreo one, however I am afraid that this ROM will be dead too soon (hopefully not) :/ I just hope that this ROM will be our savior and get us out of this misery aka EMUI.
I'm in the same situation. Most of the roms have some bugs and never get updated and others are just not stable enough to be used daily. I hope there will be at least one rom that is stable and that gets updated from time to time. Especially since Honor 8 won't get Android Oreo anymore.

crDroid is under testing for latest B401 blobs and the GPS reboot fix. I'll update it as soon as possible.

Never heard of crDroid before, can you tell what it is like? Is it a rom based on the B401 firmware? Whats the difference between the other ones? And in what kind is this firmware/rom better than teh other ones?

I'm new to the Honor 8 (and coming from the Nexus 6: ease of modding/availability of custom firmware etc., this totally sucks). But I'll tell you that generally the only "better" custom ROM is a more stable ROM: otherwise, it depends on user preference. Do you want a lot of customization options, or are you preferring a pared-down, bare-bones experience? That's what makes the difference.
The trouble with the H8 appears to be that 1) EMUI for the H8 just doesn't play very nicely with custom ROMs (and possibly even just rooting?); and 2) because of that, not many people who are interested in developing ROMs are taking on the task.
So I'd just get used to EMUI or take whatever ROM is most stable according to most--I have no idea personally what that is, but your options are going to probably be pretty limited (especially now that it looks like Huawei is shafting H8 owners by not releasing Oreo). I doubt you've got any room to be picky here: just shoot for stability.
As for crDroid specifically, it is one of many lines of ROMs (like Resurrection Remix) and is released in different variants for different phones. This one is based on Cyagenmod (and my guess is the Honor 8 one isn't official, but rather an unofficial variant, "based on" crDroid)--but you could've found that out by using Google (see here for starters).
The Honor 8 appears to be an especially difficult device to successfully mod, so if you're a beginner, I'd really think twice before taking on the task unless you can get some help. I'm fairly well-versed with modding, but I'm either going to return this phone or limit my tinkering to rooting.

Help unrooting and flashing a new rom

Hello, it's been some time since I've last rooted and flashed kernels on my devices. My device is having problems with certain apps and I feel it's time to update my root or change my rom or flash a stock rom etc. Here is what I am using now:
Build: MOAR v6.1 OA6
Software: G900PVPU1BOA6
Hardware: G900P.04
Android: 5.0
Kernel: 3.4.0-3859396
Would you recommend I unroot then flash a stock kernel? What is a new root I can use with this phone? Thanks
I would recommend Odin a fresh stock MM rom. Then boot to the desktop, by pass set up. Go to dialer ##72786# it will do a reactivate and update prl and profile.. Then Odin TWRP, and flash a new rom or your choice.. If you like MOAR then Odin a LP stock rom, and do as mentioned and flash MOAR 7.0 it works best. Right now, I'm running crdroid 3.8.5 baset off of Nouget with 7.1 gapps and it works very well You need the latest MM firmware to run it, and at least TWRP 3.2.1-0-ktle.img If you do flash crdroid download ktledv

First off, thanks for the reply. I really appreciate the help. What's the battery life like on MM compared to Lollipop?
I would prefer to use something like a stock rom but just extremely debloated. I also want to be able to play pokemom go without problems and super su keeps giving me problems when trying to play. Do you know of any setups that would allow for pokemon go and are fast, battery effecient, and debloated?

How's the mm baseband? I know the obvious response is updated is better but I experienced better LTE on the firmware I currently have, no idea honestly other than it's lolipop, maybe ok4? I want to upgrade phones but having trouble finding one with sprint newer that can be customized how I like so I'm also looking at playing with this one prior to and after getting maybe a pixel unlocked

I would stick with Lollipop OK4 and flash MOAR 7.0. I to find better LTE and all around connectivity on Lollipop than MM.. I once again, went back to MOAR 7.0 from crdroid.. Crdroid is a great rom, but battery life, sucks, as well as connectivity on calls and data. When in aroma and you get to the point about the kernel, choose don't touch kernel, and finish from there. I never like MM and those are the reasons why.. Crdroid I flashed was 7.0 but naturally on the MM base band, but it was still the same.
Thanks sir nobody could really answer that for me. I found the ok4 of all lollipop got the best LTE where I live, plus I'm on sprint so I'm a bit restricted on ROMs, unified dev leave some bugs with sprints network but not too badly!!

You probably already know, but I will ask anyways. Are you using the KLTEDV version of the unified ROM? KLTE roms does not work very well with sprint.

Thanks! I'll make sure to read which I should use. My daily is still on MM while my old one that's kinda beat up is now on N as it us now the practice phone. Playing with it before Oreo, may stay for a while. And I installed kltespr on both devices as there were still options available for specifically this device with the spr tag. My CM 13 network is fine, no worse than just regular sprint...
Haven't tried the move to either N or O on my daily, worried about the signal discussion. I'll use an old kltespr to test before the newer maintained kltedv if its there probably to see how it goes.

Unfortunately my sprint s5 is one of the phone with that signal issue. I was in the process of changing carrier so to try and fix that issue wasn't worth it for me. My new S5 did not have that issue, when i went to verizon, its a really weird bug.

I think it took a bit to stat with the sprint APN, changed some settings, messed with some stuff, and it seems fine now, I'll have to remember to check back at that before upgrading. I'm on the ok4 baseband
