I'm running Android Nougat 7.1.2 and spend a great deal of time customizing the interface. The padlock icon that should appear in the upper right corner of each app shown on the recent apps screen is mysteriously missing. It's intended to prevent apps from being cleared from the list. My searches find only instructions for using the feature when I just need to enable it. I apologize if I've chosen the wrong forum to ask for help.

Hello guys,
I am looking for either one of the following mods, if anyone knows if they exist and where, I'd love an answer.
Android 4.0 introduced the swipe-recent-apps-to-close-...thing, but so far I haven't heard of multiple swiping. I am thinking of something like open recent apps > finger 1 on app 1, finger 2 on app 2 and swipe both fingers to close both apps simultaneously (sort of how scrolling can work in the Pulse app). Is there such a mod?
Second, starting in 4.2 I guess, when opening the recent apps menu, there is an icon in the top-right corner of the screen that closes all apps. Now, for 10-inch-tablet-fewer-inches-hands people like me, this can be rather uncomfortable to press at times, and an AOKP port I've seen has that button appear instead of the 'recent apps' one when the menu is open.
I'm on the 10.1 nightlies and was wondering, are there mods for these things? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Ok, I apologize as I know the answer is somewhere in XDA (I saw it once), but for the life of me I cannot find it via XDA's search function or google. Apparently bad search fu today.
I'm running a custom ROM that has all apps enabled for multi-window use. Which is great. But the problem is when I choose an application that is not on the first screen of apps, it will choose one from the first page instead (in I think roughly the same location of the screen). The only "work around" I've been able to deduce is on the first screen (w/o scrolling), drag the bottom right app into the multiwindow bar. Then remove it fro there. This will shift the apps up by one spot. Then repeat this until you get the app you want.
This becomes annoying when the app you want is towards the bottom of the list.
Anyone know of a better way of doing this? I recall this same issue on my S2, but perhaps I didn't have any many apps installed so it wasn't such a big deal.
Thanks
John
I need help from some serious power users/hackers to find out how my girlfriend is hiding apps on her (unrooted) GS6. I'm a medium-advanced Android user, but this is some good stuff. I know that it may have to do with the notification shade, as she constantly checks it to see if there is anything new, but she has somehow (not through normal OS) disabled chimes and icons in notification bar. I believe that she may have "vaulted" apps, but can't find anything conspicuous in the app manager (even when displaying system files). I believe she can basically hide or "ghost" any app so that it doesn't appear in recent app list, app drawer, or app manager. Is anyone aware of such apps?
One thing I noticed that seems a bit different is in her notification access menu (settings/lock screen and security/other security settings/notification access) there is an entry called "Notification" that I don't normally see.
I'm wondering if maybe it's a dual-boot setup where she can choose which apps to hide from the normal boot via a rooted "clone" boot of the OS? Or maybe an easy way/shortcut to root, then hide apps, then unroot?
Any other ideas?
Oh, also: No custom launcher in use from what I can tell; stock Touch-Wiz only.

I apologize myself if it's annoying thread for the XDA. but i believe XDA can help us.
Issue: swipe up anywhere in screen area MIUI 10 launches Google search.
When we do swipe up anywhere in screen area(even accidentally ) on MIUI-10, it simply launching the Google search app. no matter if we uninstall the "Google" application, same Swipe up launch the empty white screen as we deleted the google search app. it's really annoying and irritating during phone usage.
there are many peoples reporting in Official MIUI forums page but developers / administrators doesn't responding to peoples.
Can XDA developers help us to disable the swipe up on Miui 10?
btw: no matter we are swipe up from home button, anywhere in screen if we did swipe up accidentally, google sear launches (or empty blank white screen if we deleted the Google search app)
is there any files in android file system that, we can delete to disable the swipe up gesture stop connect google search?

Greetings,
So I've successfully installed Lineage OS 18.1 Nightly and it runs really well. I've got the NikGapps Core and Magisk installed. Was able to add the apps I like from Google Play store and used the free or open source alternatives I could find for others.
I have a few questions for anyone using Lineage since I'm not sure if these are bugs or design choices or parts of Android 11.
Any clarification would be great. Basically, there's a few things I noticed that are different/don't seem to operate normally.
I can upload screenshots if necessary but let me give you the cliff notes of what I'm experiencing:
-No labels on the home screen icons, even though setting says "Show labels on desktop". Is this me interpreting something incorrectly?
-All icons on the home screen and app drawer appear to have a white background... should be transparent?
-The default sms messaging app always shows quick replay phrases despite turning off the setting "Always suggest quick actions/replies" in the notifications menu
-There is no way to turn off suggested apps... when you use an app it places it in a new section at the top of the app drawer. Looks like the menu setting is missing (there in vanilla A11).
-There is no built in volume limited. This was on my stock Galaxy S7 so if it is an OEM thing I understand. Perhaps you have a suggestion?
-Notifications from the default sms messaging app do not pop up over other on screen elements (specifically fullscreen video in Brave). Does this have to do with the "Bubbles" setting under notifications?
-Screen automatically dims/sleeps when watching fullscreen video (again in Brave)... happens inconsistently and going in/out of fullscreen seems to stop it from happening again.
-There is no swype ability on the keyboard. I assume this is a OEM keyboard setting or something.. is there an alternate keyboard you would recommend (open source, free) that won't steal your info/privacy violations?
-Last thing which is more of a question than anything else, since I cannot install a stable twrp, I used the Lineage OS recovery. It doesn't seem to have a backup/restore function. So is there a way for me to, with the setup I currently have, to do a complete and full backup? By this I mean like capture an image of all the partitions as they currently are, as you would with a PC.
Sorry for n00b but the last unlocked rooted custom rom I ran was Cyanogen back on a Motorola Photon. Thank you in advance, any input or clarification is much appreciated as you are a helpful, insightful bunch here.
