Was thinking about picking one of these up to replace me lugging my laptop around for school. Is the Wi-fi version of this rootable ? Also If anyone could chime in on their experiences I would appreciate it. Been reading about battery drain and wifi issues make me a little hesitant ?
Yes, the 900 is rootable, at the cost of a tripped knox flag. I've had mine since about a month after it was released, and I really like it. I purchased the Logitech bluetooth keyboard and it has been really good so far. Out of the box, the tablet is great, but if you root, install TWRP and flash the new debloated ROM, the device becomes significantly better. Lag pretty much disappears, boot times are vastly better, and so on. I'd suggest looking into Xposed for additional tweaks for your device as well. I've not experienced the wifi dropouts ( and I think there may be a new xposed module out there for it... do a little searching and you'll find it ) on my device, either pre or post root. Battery drain doesn't seem any worse than any other tablet I've ever owned, but I control what's running with boot manager, and I kill wifi and BT when I know it's going to sit unused for a while.
I'm still in love with Skyrocket, but some developers and mantainers stop making new buils because feels like there are just a few Skyrocket users out there.
I think it's just because some of us are waiting for a more stable Lollipop release and better compatibility of xposed. But believe me, Skyrocket only needs a little push, and this is the time; I found a repartition thread for Hercules and same method works for Skyrocket, it means less space limitations and more juice to pull out of Skyrocket.
What do you guys think?
I still have the phone but even with a new battery I don't get much life out of it. Especially compared to my HTC One M7. I still have a real fondness for the Skyrocket. I'm running lollipop on it via the Candy ROM and it runs pretty good . In fact I think it runs much better than it ever did compared to when I had it on stock touchwiz.
I see by looking at file host download counts that over 400 downloads for Lollipop.
So a lot still using,I know some may be repeat downloads where they have gotten bad dl's,but still plenty. Just don't know how many developer's are still rocking the skyrocket.
Hope they keep up the builds there doing now . Lollipop is making my SR faster and longer life on battery.
Just bought one to use as a media streamer for summer.
Mine still get use as Ambio / music players. They are incredible devices, and amazingly enough, still reasonable performers. Not flag-ship worthy anymore, but remarkably close to the middle of the pack for mid-grade devices, and much faster than the low-end crap.
If Samsung hadn't gone nuts on locking (and encrypting) the bootloader for AT&T models, I'd still buy their hardware.

My husband bought me the LG Optimus G (AT&T) as a gift. Ended up returning it.
I like both versions of the S2 (i727 & i777). My husband used the i727 before upgrading. Mine was the i777.
Parts are cheap and phone is way easy to repair. At the moment I am using the i727 because the i777 needs fixed.
I don't need all the bells and whistles of a fancy phone. I have an S5 but its used by the kids.
Still have my skyrocket. I'm running cm11 but really want a stable lollipop rom. But my phone is about dead. it is so slow and laggy i cant figure out how to fix it. ive switched roms and it still remains frustrating slow.
I got my i727 back in 2012, and it's a great phone. My problem is finding a stable AND secure rom (meaning, consistent updates). My favorite for a while was Slim Roms' "Slim Kat"... but they haven't updated it in over a year I believe. I did find a way to increase app space by partitioning using a custom PIT file (someone shared how on these forums). I would be happy to hear rom suggestions, as I am using T-Mobile in the US currently.
Skyrocket going strong still, even after 3 years.
I bought my skyrocket 3 years ago and I still use it with Stock AT&T touchwiz ROM. Battery is new and gives me half a day backup. I love it and the old 4.1.2 interface seems refreshing after seeing tons of lollipop phones with similarly decked out homescreens and notification bars. The big font, the big icons and the bright colours on this phone (Especially with the AMOLED screen) still feel awesome.

That sounds nice! What service provider do you use? I am currently using T-Mobile, so I had to use a different radio to get it working better. Do you happen to know what radio that stock rom comes with, and if it might work for T-mobile? My phone is seriously throwing a fit right now so I gotta get a new rom on there soon.
*Edit* I just used Odin to return my i727 to stock AT&T rom (ATT JB 4.1.2 I727UCMC1 ..) which can be found here on Vincom's sticky under "
3: STOCK FIRMWARES: ODIN FLASHABLE - FULL/COMPLETE/ STOCK", and it seems to run fine as I use my T-Mobile sim card! Running very smoothly right now. Before the AT&T stock rom was updated (back when I got my phone in 2012), I do not recall it even using the signal correctly when I inserted the T-Mobile sim card, so I opted to use custom roms with short-term joy and a lot of pain and suffering in the long-run. Will let you guys know updates as I continue to use it, because long term is the real test of how a rom handles!

I'm on Airtel in India. And the stock ROM comes with UCMC1 radio and it works pretty okay. The ROM is solid now that I've used it for 3 weeks now. There was one occurrence where the phone rebooted when the battery was low and when it came back on it had factory reset itself (That was a pain to bring back everything update). Other than that ROM has been solid.
As far as signal and data is considered, what I found out which worked better is when I installed xposed framework and installed a mod called Intelli3G. If I change the network mode to WCDMA via UltraCfg I used to get 1 bar signal. But when I used to switch network mode via Intelli3G I get 2-3 bars. I don't know why it is like that, but it works.
Why would anyone still be using this phone? It was a piece of crap. Literally the worst purchase decision I have made in my entire life. Nothing but problems.

ymmv but for me it has never failed me in over 3 yrs since ive had it, its still my dd, flashed a ton of roms and apps and still using the original battery.

Still using the original battery after three years? My battery life wasn't very good even when new and was awful after like 6 months getting like 1.5 hours screen on time with like 8 or 9 hours off the charger.
I could see it being a little better with custom ROMs since you wouldn't have to deal with the pathetic TouchWiz but not much and I didn't want to void my warranty and insurance by installing custom ROMs. After the first update it was so slow(even after a factory reset) I missed half my calls because the phone was so slow that the call had went to voicemail before it had registered my swipe to answer.
The build quality sucked too. The phone was creaky and had several gaps between parts. The back cover didn't sit flush with the back of the phone even after replacing the back cover which I did 3 or 4 times during the two years I used the phone because of how easily it scratched and worn out.
It also had issues every few months were it would get stuck in boot loops.
After using that piece of crap for two years I vowed to never get another Samsung phone unless serious changes were made by Samsung.

I have two - my wife and I bought them the same day - and the only issue I have had so far is the power button on the black one going out after 2.5 years. (One of the solder techs at my work replaced it for me.) Otherwise, both have been fantastic devices. They don't creak, the backs go on perfectly, and they still function quite well - even if they are fairly slow compared to my M8. Even the TouchWiz poo that shipped on them was functional - I just prefer CM.

even though i got mine new i also bought 2 used ones for family members, all 3 are still working great
after having this phone since release i gotta say i was not disappointed, specially since we have a great community to give us the features that lenovo doesn't give us , thank you all very much

Not really digging on Sammy anymore. After having this phone I will never go back to a phone without front firing speakers and a "selfie" flash. I don't give two figs about Moto mods but give me a "refresh" of this phone with updated specs and I'm all in! Otherwise GoodbyeMoto.

Not really sure why you're disappointed with the X, except battery life...

Very happy with it, it'll last me another year or two at least If I keep charging up to 90% to help with the long run, but I would have to say my next phone definitely would have front facing speakers and has a big screen, which the newer phones are having bigger screens so that's an easy mark to pass. The front facing speakers though, that's a dying breed now a days because of the new bezeless design of newer flagships.

I switched to an OnePlus 3T over a month ago and I couldn't be happier. It has really long battery life(6 to 9 hours Screen on time), depending if you are on WiFi or LTE/3G. The performance is the awesome. No Ram management issues (like the Galaxy Phones), everything is smooth and opens instantly. It's the first Android device in 7 years, since I'm using this OS, where my Device isn't modified, cause Oxygen OS is the stock Rom, which I would flash as a Custom ROM. You could modify the Screen density, you have gestures, network traffic monitor, battery percent, no bloatware...(except the gapps)...
The only things I could complain about is the camera in low light and front facing speakers would be nice. Otherwise if someone wants to buy a new phone: get the OP3T.
I recommend the phone to someone who isn't a nerd like me and had the S7 before. He had awful battery life on the S7 and the phone wasn't really faster then the MXP. He had nothing to complain after the switch. He hadn't called me once. I called and asked him what battery life he get's and he told me that his battery lasts 2 to 3 days, without charging.
I'll probably go over to lg g5, xiaomi mi6 ot oneplus 3t whichever gets cheaper

It is just a damn shame the OP3T is GSM only, for those of us in the US. I get it, though; it's an international device and the CDMA market is too small globally to be worth changing the whole design over. Other than that, it seems like as close to a perfect phone as you'll find in today's compromised market.
My next will be Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or S8+. This probably won't happen until around Black Friday. I'm really fond of my Moto X but miss Touch Wiz.
I will try to go to iPhone. I'm really disappointed in Android and in Lenovo.

Being disappointed in Lenovo is one thing. But in Android in general...a google phone is the only way to go to get consistent updates. Otherwise, there is no guarantees with any OEM. Nearly every OEM out there has pretty much pulls this same stuff. Typically devices within 12 months of release are updated quickly (relatively) and thereafter, the newest phones become priority. By 24 months support is non-existent.

I just don't like android anymore (and google phones don't work for me). Every OEM builds its propietary implementation of everything, no one want to "join" forces so they can make android a good, stable, securo and safe OS.
I'm tired of that. I just want something that works, that is built for the user (and not built so the user has to work to make things work).
I want the following:
1. Unlocked bootloader.
2. Works on Verizon.
3. uSDcard
4. Removable battery.
Suggestions?
I agree with the 3T if your on GSM get it I've also switched and man was it worth it I even relocked my bootloader and stayed on stock it's that good I get 4 or 5 hours SOT when I'm at work and I got terrible service there and don't even need to charge midday I'll have 15% before I plug in when I hit the bed when I'm not at work I'll get 2 days with 7 hr SOT it's a beast hands down no root or mods

Only 3 current phones fit 3 of 4 of these requirements... All are LG, the G5, V10, and V20... But the LG G5 is the ONLY device available that fits all these requirements since it has an unofficial bootloader unlock, the others do not have an unlockable bootloader.
Not much of a choice in my book...

Yep. This is the reason why I have given in on the removable battery option, hence this phone. I'm not on a CDMA network now, but I want the option to switch should I so choose.

Then I say go for the iPhone. My general opinion is that Android was partially designed with the idea of customizing the user experience.
As far as being a secure OS, Android itself is secure. With security updates being provided regularly now, it is more so. Honestly, a Google phone, aka Pixel, will get timely updates, doesn't require mods to be usable, and has the option to customize should you choose to do so. And not to mention no proprietary software causing security issues (here's looking at you LG).

Apple is doing its proprietary implementation of everything too, it's even worse than android devices.
And why having each OEM making their UX for android make it unsecure, unstable and unsafe ?
User having to work to make things work ? isn't your phone working as the OEM intended it to be ? you bought your phone not knowing what it can or can't do ? I wont buy a phone that can't have a specific feature that i need and then complain that i have to implement it by myself
Your arguments to explain why you're moving to IOS are flimsy.
You can be bored of android, or wanting to try IOS, but man android unsafe, unsecure or unstable ? custom roms can be unstable, but it's not the OEM fault.

I gave up on CDMA and Verizon in general about 4 years ago with a Nexus 4... I've bounced between a few providers since then, will never go back to Verizon. I pay $36 per month per line for unlimited calls and texts, and 8GB of unthrottled AT&T LTE data per line. I'll deal with marginal service in a few rural areas I rarely go as a trade-off.
My Galaxy S7 (AT&T SM-G930A) was recently updated to Android 8 (Oreo). Since the update I am having issues with the volume. I plug my phone into a stereo receiver at work and we listen all day 12 - 14 hours. Nougat would often reset my volume after about 10 hrs of playing and display a warning about the dangers of listening to high volumes for extended periods. Since updating to Oreo the volume will reset randomly. It will not display a warning or reason it just resets. At first I thought it was because I was receiving a call or text or email but the random volume resets do not correspond to any notifications. This happens three or four times a day since the update.
The volume issues are just a minor issue compared to my battery life. I have a 33% reduction to battery life. Prior to the update I would plug in (to the stereo) my phone in the morning and after a 12 hr shift I would have about 20-25% left. Since the update I plug in (to the stereo) and after about 10 hrs I'm at 10-15%. I have not installed any new apps since the Oreo update and there are no other causes for the change in battery life.
The other main issue I have is speed. The phone is noticeably slower. Apps take longer to open and there is definite lag. Earlier today it took me a little over three minutes to pull up my navigation app and get directions. Prior to the update it would take around 30 seconds.
Here are my questions.
1) CAN I INSTALL A CUSTOM ROM? I had Cyanogenmod on my S4 and really liked it over the stock ROM. I think I would like to give Lineage a try but I still can't get a definite answer as to whether or not this can be done. Obviously I have the Snapdragon processor. Most of the information I'm finding is telling me that we can't install a custom recovery on Snapdragons yet, which means, no custom ROM. If I am wrong please provide me some current links.
2) If I can't install a custom recovery/ROM; CAN I REVERT TO NOUGAT OR MARSHMALLOW?
3) If I can't revert; WHAT CAN I DO THAT WILL PROVIDE ME WITH MORE IMMEDIATE SATISFACTION THAN WAITING FOR AT&T OR SAMSUNG TO FIX THIS CRAP?

2) No, the bootloader being locked prevents OS downgrades. You can only sidestep or upgrade.
3) Unfortunately your hands are pretty tied. All I can suggest is backup anything important and do a full clean flash, which may resolve some of the anomalies.

Thanks for the quick and concise reply. I just wanted to offer a belated but brief follow up. I backed up and restored Android. It took a little while to get everything back where I wanted it but most things seem better now. The only complaint I have at this time is that my streaming music app(s) seem to drop the connections too often when running on WiFi. If I turn off the WiFi and use mobile data there aren't any issues. The WiFi issues happen at home, at work and when connected at my mother's home and friend's homes. I rarely have mobile data over-runs so it isn't an issue per se; it just bugs me a little.

I'm afraid that's something I've not experienced and wouldn't know where to look. Best I can think of is check battery saving options, and under WiFi > advanced, make sure Keep WiFi on during sleep is set to Always

I've never seen that warning. Use something like DevChek to view all the sensor temperatures.
May just be a battery failure. They're good for about 2 years on a heavily used phone, my lasted 1.5 years and failed.
I'm looking at getting a second Note. My choices are another 10+ or a new 20U. It will likely be another 10+; it a solid, stable, fast phone with no glaring issues. If still running on Pie, that's a huge plus, Android 10 and especially 11 just suck. I don't have high hopes for 12.
So if it's the battery or C port PCB*, just replace and wait for the 2022 Note release.
From what I've read the Snapdragon has a better chipset architecture and instruction set.
They seem to be notoriously hard to root. Probably not a good choice for rooting.
I know you can optimize a stock 10+/Pie, not sure how well that will go with Android 10 and above. Some of the functionality isn't there for valuable 3rd party apps like Karma Firewall's logging feature. You can still use Package Disabler or ADB edits to kill the bloatware though.
On newer high dollar phones is many ways rooting is a liability especially with warranty/insurance and you lose Knox, Samsung Pass etc if you use that junk. There are those especially on this forum that swear by it but won't acknowledge their cost in time (which can be and typically is huge) and inconvenience.
Stock Androids/roms are easier to troubleshoot and more secure. If there are issues with a stock setup there will be thousands or more with the same issue making solutions more likely and easier to find. With a custom setup you are on your own which can quickly implode into a time sucking blackhole in more ways than there are stars.
If I was going to root it be an older Note... not a brand new one... risk/time vs reward.
*the C port PCB may have a temperature sensor, not sure. It can cause a lot of bizarre issues in seemingly unrelated systems like internet connection, I know that for a fact. Make sure if you do replace it you get the exact PN that on that PCB or it will not function properly! Both the battery and C port PCB are relatively easy to replace with the proper tools and skillset. Both are cheap, under $50. Make sure you replace the back cover OEM seal with the same or equivalent if you open it up. Do not use generic double sided adhesive tape!

i had this same issue of yours ,
"to cold to charge" can't charge ,
notice/issue .....many years back .
Can't remember which device of mine it was , think it was a Samsung Tablet A 2016 .
Anyway ,
Took devices to Samsung Service Centre.
It was the USB charging port .
They did not charge me much for the repairs .
Got it fixed and device charging normally / working fine afterwards.
My point is whatever you do or decide do not "throw/give "device away .
It's a small fix.....!

I am running the US snapdragon spammy 20 - ultra rooted up with boot loader unlocked thanks to afane and his advanced bros, although due to the lock down on many features such as scoped (controlled) storage preventing apps from being installed outside of the control room (googel store), did I mention notification sound got locked down too?
