battery bug - Essential Phone Guides, News, & Discussion

Phone has been charging and discharging fine ,until Saturday ,toolkit off charge and after about 30 mins use I noticed battery still showing 100%,restarted phone and it came back on at 94%.It did the same today but when restarted came back on at 98% after a little use,so plugged back into to charger which sat at 98% for a while until I unplugged and straight away was reading 100% Using essential phone charger and nothing else ,any ideas ?

What are you complaining? Phone sips battery on idle and uses a little more on reboot?

Weird battery glitch.

So, got this weird glitch. I'll have say 30% of my battery left and I'll power cycle and suddenly I'll have something like 4% left. And power cycling doesn't help or anything. And plugging it in just charges it from that 4%. Anybody got anything?

Just thought about this. I should probably let you know I'm on the latest official stock.

Im runnings the official Roger's GB ROM on my Infuse ATM and I've had similar issues. Mine goes a bit deeper though.
When I first got the phone, it wouldn't charge to 100%, whether it be on or off. When the phone finally charged to 100%, the second you unplug it, the battery widget I had and the built in battery meter on the phone said it was at 80%.
While using the battery, it would drain, sometimes suddenly dropping from 40% to 10%. The only way to get the phone to charge to 100% while its off is to charge it for about 8 hours or overnight. Even then, upon bootup, the phone read anywhere between 80%-85%
This is the OEM battery. Im going to try my luck with a battery off eBay that claims to be "OEM", but so far charging for 7 hours straight with the phone off, it wasn't able to reach 100%.
So im hoping it's not the phone itself. Ive charged the phone with various charges, usb cords, and used juice plotter to keep track of things. Definitely something fishy going on because my graphs always show a sudden jump from 85% to 100% in a span of less than a minute =\

I don't think it's b/c of the rom your on, happened to me when my phone was stock. I tried to let it die, but once it hit zero percent, it just kept going till the "true" battery percent was drained. Im on S7 now and it still happens occasionally..

Overcharging the battery?

Is it possible to overcharge the battery? I ask because when I first got the phone and fully charged it, it would stay on 100% for at least a couple hours (using circle battery widget which reads in increments of 1%) but one night I fell asleep with it plugged into the charger and when I got up it still read 100% but as soon as I unplugged it it went immediately to 99%. I have not yet been able to get it to read 100% unless its connected to the charger. Think I could get the batt replaced under warranty since its only 2-3 weeks old?

Your battery is fine, it is set up so that it will not overcharge. I tried searching for an article that explained how the system is set up but couldnt find it.

I'll look in to that. But what about the battery immediately dropping to 99% when I take it off the charger?

Every android phone I've had has dropped like that as soon as I've taken it off charge, nothing to really worry about.
They do a think called power cycling. It will charge it to 100% then shut off then once it goes back down it will charge it to 100% again. Ill try to find the article. Your battery is fine.

Weird. My SE Xperia X10 didn't do that, it would stay at 100% for at least an hour. I recalibrated my battery a couple days ago, thinking it would remedy this "problem" and after it died on me I charged it back to 100% and took it off the charger at 10pm, set my alarm on it and let it sit overnight. After pressing snooze on my phone 3 times and finally getting up at 630am it still was at 100%! So it's strange to me that this drops to 99% immediately but if it's happening to everyone else I won't worry too much.

Well if I were to judge off that, mine stays at 100% for hours......im going on 7hrs right now. But I use battery circle widget which reads in 1% increments......as soon as my phone comes off the charger it goes straight to 99%......it didnt do that before.

Battery Charging & calibration query
What difference does it make if you charge from empty to 100% in switched off stage and the same in on state? Which is better? How should we calibrate the battery and how often using which app for unrooted MB865 Asia retail? Also if phone dies (switches off) constantly due to insufficient charge does it harm the battery in terms of cells getting destroyed gradually & finally does switching off or switching on the phone while charging have any effect issue on phone or the battery?? Thanks in advance for inputs for all queries.

Battery discharging while OFF while on plane.

I got on a plane heading from New Orleans to San Francisco via Las Vegas. I turned my phone off just before boarding and didn't turn it on again until I landed in San Francisco. My battery was nearly fully charged as It had only been off the charger for about an hour and I wasn't using it. When I turned it on in San Francisco 7 hours later, it was nearly dead, with only 20% charge. I definitely saw the power off animation. It was definitely off when I took it out of my pocket, but the battery use told me the screen had used up most of the charge. What the hell happened? Has this happened to anyone else?
As a precaution, on the return flight I pulled the battery after powering down. I did not have any battery drain on the flight home after the battery pull.
Maybe the shutdown animation took a very long time and kept the screen on.
I have never heard of this, so I have no idea.
I've had this happen to me a few times. I power off my (fully charged) Charge at night before going up to bed and when I come back down in the morning and power up (and it goes through the power up cycle) I find I have limited battery left. I haven't tried to track down what is happening since I simply replace the battery with a fully charged one and continue on with my day.
I found that I had some file on my SD Card was draining my battery.

I don't suppose you remember which file that would have been.
So when the Charge is powered off it really isn't powered off?

I think it's just a glitch of the battery meter. Either it was lying to you when it was full or lying when it was 20%. If it doesn't happen on a regular basis then the battery should be fine, right?
I think we've all had it happen (at least to me a few times) where I switch out batteries that I know have been charged and the phone says that it's dead. The solution I found was to take the battery out and try to power it on, then put it back in or put in the fresh one. I don't know why, but it seems to get rid of some sort of bad juju.

Actually when my phone glitches out and reboots sometimes it shows the battery level more than 50% below what it used to be when it died. A glitch in the kernel that reports the battery level could be the culprit.

Battery drain [help]

I bought a moto g and it arrived on Thursday. I set up all configurations and, normally, battery over. I charge during the night and everything OK.
Yesterday I played a little and battery stay on 88%, and I turn off the phone. But the phone is for my girlfriend and I only give it today.
Everything right, she played and battery goes to 60%, few hours (1h or 2h) battery gone, and phone shutdown. I turn on again and only have 1%, but this 1% lasted more than 1h and she played games and have wifi on.
I think it's not normal. What you think?
Thanks, and sorry for my English.

Try factory reset your device
Sent from my XT1034 using xda app-developers app
Seems like some Gs are getting out of the factory with wacky battery calibration issues.
Charge it to 100%, do a factory reset, run it dry, charge again and use it normally through a few charge cycles. If the issue persists, contact Moto.
You can read about the problem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545553
it seems to happen only once for a device

Best way to charge your Nexus 5 Battery

Hi all
I will be getting my nexus 5 tomorrow and was just curious if there are ant does and donts with regards to charging the battery. The reason i ask is i currently have a HTC sensation and after 18 months the battery had to be replaced as it was simply not holding its charge. My routine was to charge it overnight every night and use it during the day.
Does charging it through the night cause damage? im just a little bit more concerned as i will not be able to replace the battery with it being sealed.
Thanks for any tips
Chris
Hi,
Take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511647...
I used to do the same thing with my HTC Incredible... I learned that it can damage the battery over time by not allowing it to hold a charge. Now, when I get home (depending on remaining %) I charge my phone, and unplug it during the night.
If for some reason the battery dramatically drains overnight, I'll charge it when I'm getting ready to leave in the AM.
That is just my method, but I have had great results with it for my usage.
Plug it in...

I have had this phone since it was announced. I plug it in every night when I go to bed and leave it plugged in till I wake up. My battery is fine. I have done the same with my note 2 also. Never had any problems

It's not hard to pop the back cover off and replace the battery when it goes bad. I just dont worry about it and charge whenever and take it off the charger whenever.
