Purchased this phone from Straighttalk. They have confirmed that its unlocked. But i keep getting conflicting answers. I tried an att sim and it wont make calls. They said its CDMA only. I want to use GSM sim. Is there anything i can do to switch over the phone to gsm? From what i research online the hardware is all the same on the USA model phones.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As straight talk CS is a joke

I have an unlocked tp and i talked with verizon trying to set it up to use it on there network and they say i cant use it with them even tho i have the good esn number and all? what should i do have you guys heard of this or was that guys just being stupid?
I think im going to resell it or trade it for a verizon version. if any one wants to trade for a sprint version thats unlocked and comes with many extras in the orignal bo x with a 1 gig card and the mighty rom with android I will sell or trade it for 160 its in great condition Davey
there are two types of wireless networks in the world: GSM and CDMA. your phone is GSM in hardware = can't be changed), and verizon's network is CDMA = not comaptible.
correct me if im wrong but the sprint is the cdma and the att is the gsm. this phone has mightys cdma rom on it. it would have bricked the phone if it was gsm right at least that is what all the info i have read has told me. I have even flashed it to the stock verizon rom which is cdma and it was fine. I have found a few pages in the wiki about how to use it on the verizon network i will try they look kinda complicated tho.

sprint & verizon are cdma, t-mobile & at&t are gsm.
i haven't tried flashing a cdma rom on my fuze... i know it is highly unrecommended. but i am sure there is a way to tell if ur phone is gsm or cdma, probably by looking at the sticker under that battery.
Dad is correct.. Sprint is CDMA jsut like VZW... and there is an easier way to tell if it is GSM or CDMA..... Take off the batter cover.... Do you see a Sim Card? If Yes, then it is a GSM... If No, Then CDMA unless it is GSM and no sim card is in it.. then power it up... it will say SIM CARD MISSING... That will tell you that it is GSM.....
Hope that helps.
I know its cdma for a fact it has sprint across the front and it has a cdma rom on it
Hello, I have a theoretical situation. Lets say I cancelled my verizon contract and didn't pay the balance. Then figured out how to make my sch- I535 work on GSM carriers. Will I be able use the phone on straight talk with a bad esn from Verizon? even though GSM carriers use imei? Im confused on how this works. Thanks for the help in advance
Im about to unlock my phone for use with Verizon, and I wanted to double check something since I'll have to wait until later to do it.
I was informed that my ATT LG G2 wouldn't be compatible with a Verizon SIM since it's CDMA, but I searched around and it appears as though this phone supports the CDMA network.
Would it work?

I would like to know
SIM and CDMA are not the same thing. Verizon uses SIM cards with 4G LTE part of their service. If have a phone that's only 3G then that's CDMA and don't have a SIM card. Also Verizon only "allows" Verizon branded phones on their network. Which is not to hard to get around for the 3G CDMA no SIM needed service BUT I am not sure "IF" its "POSSIBLE" or "HOW TO" if you want to use it on Verizons 4G LTE like I do!
I'm going to ask here and in a another forum that has a lot of LG G2 activity.
The D800 model will not work on Verizon's network, as the D800 does not support CDMA. It doesn't matter if it is unlocked, it will only work GSM networks.
Sent from my LG-D800
I know that verizon has it's own Z3v, but from what I can tell the z3 from tmobile has the same bands on it's radio as the verizon variant.
If my z3 from tmobile is unlocked can I use it on Verizon? I do not have a current verizon sim card to test, so I thought someone here might have tried already. Would rather just keep my existing phone than go to a lesser version of it on verizon.
Thanks ahead of time...
No its not possible, as they need to register your ESN and considering the D6616 is GSM only, it does not have an ESN.
Also you cannot use Sprint/Verizon on each others network as they won't allow it (ESN) . But you can use Sprint and Verizon phones, those which also have GSM in addition to CDMA on AT&T and T-Mobile
I used my Sprint LG G2 (supports CDMA & GSM) on T-Mobile till I got the Z3.

Thanks for the info. I didn't have my hopes up, but it would have been nice.
So I had a boost phone that recently broke. It had a sprint sim card. My mom got a new phone and gave me her S6 SM-g920a. I had to go online to get it unlocked. Upon unlocking it and it not working I called att. They told me it wasn't compatible. Ok.. So then I read on xda if you root it there's a way you can unlock it for my sim. Cool. Problem is my computer fried the other week. No oden no flashing nothing. My questions - Is it true rooting it will really make the sim compatible? And can you root this phone using no oden or even computer?
Thanks in advance
Not really.
The S6 SM-G920A is an AT&T phone (the A at the end of the model indicates AT&T model) so it uses GSM technology and can work with only a GSM SIM card.
Boost and Sprint are both CDMA networks, this means they use CDMA technology.
So, your phone, previously from AT&T, recognizes only GSM bands. Whereas Boost and Sprint use other bandwidths.
Check your phones and networks bads here and see if they really are compatible: https://www.frequencycheck.com/carriers/at-t-united-states
If their not, then you could use this phone only with GSM networks, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Cricket, MetroPCS
Well that's just disappointing. Thank you very much for your help though
