Rear Glass Replacement Part? - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Where can one source the rear glass from?
My Pixel 2 dropped from an ottoman onto a tile floor landing on its back top corner, and spider-webbed the back glass panel. I just measured this little ottoman - it's only 22" tall. A fall of 22" is all it takes.
My biggest concern is the spider web effect actually chipped the glass, where the glass breaks off in very tiny pieces. And it's depositing tiny glass particles all around the house - where i have a 1 year old toddler all over the floors. Not to mention my pants' pockets and my desk. I'll go pickup a cheap cover to keep the glass from crumbling all over the floors for now.
I see these "uBreakiFix" stores can replace the glass for $150 or so at a local store. I have no local store near me, nor do I think $150 is worth a tiny piece of glass. But they seem to be able to get the glass replacements.
I have repaired dozens of our tablets and phones of the years so I have no issue with that part. I just need to source the glass.
Thanks!

Hi, did you managed to get the pixel2 rear Glass? I had the same problem, but, I live in Brasil and have no one around to do the job.

Nope, not yet. For now I just got a cover until I can get a replacement.

Same problem, the google staff in Italy ask me around 200€. The rear glass for Pixel 1 is on eBay for 5€ and on what I've seen in YouTube it just need 5 minute of work.....
Keep in touch for the first who will find the replacement

Found this, so I'm trying it when it arrives

Hey man, just wondering if you can tell us anything new? My back glass shattered too and the glass itself isn't too expensive now. But can you get the old one off without complete disassembly? So many teardowns and nobody touched the back glass.

its not gorilla glass is how she broke it...No where on Samsungs site or Cornings site do they say the skyrocket has it, and in fact i have contacted both and have gotten this response via email from samsung
“Thank you for your inquiry.
The Samsung Skyrocket (SGH-I727) does not feature the Gorilla glass. However, we assure you that all the components of the phone passed the Samsung quality assurance test and have been tested to withstand multiple different conditions”
So, Im hearing some people post on forums that the Digitizer is glued to the Glass and is separable, meaning the repair will cost way less than paying for a whole new digitizer + LCD + Glass assembly.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
I have a nasty spider web break on my phone but can not afford to pay $160 when I paid $150 for the phone! (I know thats the contract price)
I'm a broke college student!

I don't think you can separate them and manage to reuse the circuitry, were talking less 1mm thick. I've replaced glass before, next time I'll probably send it to Sammy.

Replacing the glass is not too difficult if you know your way around computer hardware. What makes it a pain is how small all the connections and ribbon cable clasps are and ect.
Here's a link to a video tutorial on the Atrix to give you an idea of what you can expect. About an hour to replace.

I got a used S2 skyrocket off ebay. Only the outer glass is cracked.
I saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtiyU-RQUU0
Has anyone tried such a method and only changed the glass? (outer glass is cheap on ebay). Thx

Tried and failed... That is a nice video, but my understanding is that the Galaxy S II and III are different for repairs. The III you can replace just the top glass, but with the II it's easiest to replace the whole LCD and digitizer + glass. HTCs on the other hand have the top glass and digitizer as one replaceable unit.
I had this idea I could get the LCD lifted up and then use fishing line like floss to separate the glass and digitizer. But I didn't get that far. I didn't have enough heat and trying to remove the LCD, it busted. The OLED is like a brittle film and the adhesive used is crazy, so that method was doomed. I think if I had a different approach things might have gone better.
Now I have a worthless disassembled phone waiting on the prices of the whole LCD to come back down to sane levels. They were like $121,$131,$155, last check they're $200 on eBay. Makes me want to cuss!
I saw a video on YouTube where the top glass was busted open, not just cracked. I think it was a plain Galaxy S II. They used playing cards to dig in between the glass and digitizer layers. Then you clean off the digitizer and tape your new clean glass down and it would be fixed. I think if you could further break the top glass to pry it up and be able to dig in between the glass and the digitizer, that's how I would try to replace just the glass.
Ok, I dug in my web history and found the video I remembered: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=judy-izOmKk
So in the video they had their screen/digitizer/glass removed from their phone chassis. I wouldn't go that far fearing you'd break the LCD. You may not have to do more than removing the battery before you get started.
Another thing the Skyrocket top glass needs this double sided clear tape. I presume this is because the digitizer is separate from the top glass and needs to be connected right to the glass instead of just held on with the double sided tape on the edges alone. I imagine that that could work if you pressed extra hard on your touches, but I don't know. I found this tape from EtradeSupply.com - they have a Youtube video I watched over and over. But shipping to the states is $15, adding to the expense.
Hope this helps anybody.
me too
I did the same thing. I got the old glass seperated with a hair dryer, but messed up some of the amoled screen and the glass was never fully flush after the reglue.
Super Annoying. :/ ending up buying the new screen kit on ebay for like 120. :/
Repair Follow-up
Yeah, I was able to get a new housing and screen assembly for my Skyrocket and all is well now. My phone is like new.
I did find some newer repair videos that use the playing card trick for removing just the cracked glass.
Samsung nexus glass repair i9250 part 1 - YouTube

The quick version is that he says stick the phone in the freezer for a couple of minutes, because that will weaken the digitizer glue/tape. Then use your card to dig the glue out, pushing it out of the edge of the glass in a slow, lengthy process. He had success this way on a similar phone. I read elsewhere that Goo Gone cleaner could be used to remove any adhesive residue from the digitizer.
One thing I would worry about with this process is air bubbles in the new digitizer tape, since this other video has an industrial vacuum pressure machine as part of the final assembly process of the screens.
LCD and Digitizer touch the production workshop/Enterprise Solutions - YouTube
Related is an issue of dust, since a spec of lint or dust will cause an air bubble, as I just discovered applying a screen protector onto my Skyrocket.
So this little "$15" repair can add up with the digitizer adhesive and buying the Goo Gone and rubber gloves (which I didn't even use) and all of the rest. Just going for the new display comparatively is easy.

Any one willing to donate a Dead Captivate

basically my front glass lens got a crack (LCD is fine) and my back housing has been worn out. If any one willing to donate a dead Captivate will really appreciate and will pay the delivery cost to Middle east.
If nobody helps you out, care to provide your phone for my project?
amazon.com, search captivate digitizer. if not on there, Google it. you can buy replacement parts.

Here you go. And why in god name does it cost that much? This phone is an antique at this point! $124 for a screen? Perhaps thats why the OP was hoping someone might have a dead one, probably cheaper to buy a broken captivate than buy a new screen!
I know it seems late, but get a screen protector, it helps your fingers glide over the cracks without getting cut. If you already have one, buy a new one, i know atfer a while it clouds the screen, and that plus the cracks will make you hate the phone.
A nice new clear screen protector will let you be able to tolerate it for a while longer....
I know what im talking about.....
heres my cracked cappy... it still worked too! i used it like this for a good 4 months or more, then bought a used one off a co-worker for 100 bucks.

I bought a replacement "glass only" off ebay for 9 bucks, but upon more research and watching a bunch of youtube videos, i found out the LCD digitizer and glass are bonded together, so there was no way of removing the old glass without damaging the LCD.
I installed the replacement glass over-top of the cracked glass, it helps see past some of the cracks, and stops my fingers from getting sliced by the sharp edges of the cracks. its sometimes hard to activate the 4 bottom capacitive buttons through the double glass, but I only use that phone for testing and skype.
Any luck repairing it?

[Q] Screen replacement

Hi Guys,
Yesterday i was walking on the street and my phone slipped out of my hand fell in the ground... The glass got smashed in one of the corners and i would like to get it replaced.
Could you tell me of a retailer where i could buy a replacement with good quality and reasonably priced? And can i buy just the glass or do i have to buy the LCD too?
Thanks in advance
You need the screen and frame since its fused together, something like this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Touch-Digiti...cement_Parts_Tools&hash=item20e38dc59b&_uhb=1
Edit: that should be one piece, seems you have to bond the frame and screen? No clue, do some more research.

Front Glass broken, replacement possible?

Hello,
I managed to drop my phone from not even 10cm(Gosh this thing is Slippy and fragile as F**k) on concrete and the Glass(not the Display!) broke.
So i was searching on the internet for glass replacement and found one on ebay, but i have also heard that it is quite difficult to remove the glass withou damaging the Display/Touchscreen.
If someone knows if it´s possible or if i need a whole new screen i would appreciate it.
Have Samsung replaced it for you. Bring your S6 back to them for repair. It will remove glass compatibility and job quality problems.
Mine was not even a week old and it fell from my fking pocket onto asphalt/road and part of the screen cracked. It's the damn bulging rounded glass on the sides which make the phone so fragile compared to, say, an S4 which had flat screen!
The retailer does not cover broken glass and was asking 200+ dollars to repair!!
Bought a tempered glass for $16 and it's kinda usable although painful to look at now. And the fking dents on the sides of the aluminum case make it a more painful experience considering I invested all my money on the phone and was waiting to buy a cover for it. Wished I bought the $50 clear view cover when I got the S6
The only place in my area that can replace stuff like this is my provider vodafone.
But i dont really want to spend 200€ to have my Display replaced.
Bite the bullet and have the glass replaced then buy a protective case.
It is difficult to replace only the glass for your s6. I suggest getting a Samsung Galaxy s6 screen replacement with digitizer.
Bump..
How much is this front glass worth? A place here in Grand Rapids wants $275. See my g920p sceen isnt cracked but got smashed in a bit and glass under it is crushed there isnt any cracks in the top layer. But few glass chips floating around the front lens. The Phone did started seperating and I put a drop of glue on edge of screen and frame and held it in and its a still truckn. It works fine and I do got insurance with 200$ deductible for a refurbished phone from Phone Claim. Hey any idea how long that takes?. Replace the phone or is there another option out there to get it fixed?? I dont have any of those heating tools and not gonna make this my first replacment. Now the wifes S5 I may try it for a bit of exprience get things I need when its broke.

Has anyone gotten the glass back panel of the pixel 2 exchanged or maybe polished?

I hate cases and I'm very very careful with my phone, but my pixel 2 already has a scratch on the back panel :crying: , maybe the friction of taking in and out of my pockets caused it? It's quite annoying, so I thought maybe I could get that glass back panel exchanged in the future after it collects too many scratches, has anyone done it? How much does google charge for it? If its more than 100 euros than I would just have to get an effing case , I was also thinking about taking it to a jewelry store and get that part of the glass polished ? Not the camera lens I'm crazy but not that crazy ...
i managed to drop mine and chipped a portion of the glass near the edge. when i priced a repair at local shops, it was expensive as hell. just invest in a case.

I didn't find the damage significant enough to do that. if the screen goes, then I'll do it.
If it's anything like the OG Pixel it should be easy as hell to replace. If you go on YouTube Jerryrig everything it does a tutorial for 1st gen pixel.
Get the Rhinoshield case and screen protector. The screen protectors go on both sides and the case is a minimalistic band that's able to be dropped from 11 feet.
