I just got a new S8+. Great phone. I've been busy setting it up, and suddenly I noticed all my app icons have weird white lines around them. This is not the "icon borders" that can be turned on and off, this is something super weird. (see screenshots)
Even more strangely, the line-drawn-box doesn't appear around every app icon. Netflix, Chrome, Firefox, and some other apps are "spared".... but most apps icons have this weird icon around them.
I'm using Holo Launcher, but it happens with the stock TouchWiz launcher, and in the default theme. I checked accessibility and I don't see anything turned on in there.
Anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

After some more digging, it seems to be a bug between Samsung Themes and third party launchers like Holo and Nova.
I was able to fix the icons by setting to default theme, then going to settings - apps - app manager - holo launcher, deleting both cache and data, then force quitting Holo.
If i change the theme, the problem comes back.
Unfortunately, activating "max battery saver" enables a theme and triggers the problem.
Yes, seems the Samsung OS is sensitive to icon framing and other corruption from non-Samsung sensitive theme'ing.

I have ported over two EVO light blue themes to the Uncommon ROM 1.1 by deficitism. It is a great ROM. I took the Themes of RUJELUS22 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788214 and Riptide9 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=727117 and combined what I liked in both into one Theme. If you like what you see all credit goes to these three people. I did theme the cell phone signal bar and Jascias also themed some of the png files that were not blue like the media play buttons on the lock screen and the buttons on the home screen when you click on the app drawer. I do have some HTML Edits that I could add for the Theme by RUJELUS22 but I cannot get it to work. I am not a programmer. I uncombined the file. Did the edits. But it never recombines correctly.
Known Issues
1. Default input is causing FC. You can use another one until I get this resolved.

Looks good but I got multiple FC's (Touch Input), so I went back.
I use thick buttons so I did not know that it caused a force close..I will look into it to see if I can figure it out.

Bummer, nice theme.

Yes I know that it FC's if you use the default input device. I am not a programmer so I am trying to get the ROM maker to let me know were the default input device is located in his ROM so that I can see what is causing it to FC.
Well, not ported as they already mostly worked, just fixed a couple of hiccups. Nothing very clever going on here, but may be of interest to some folks.
As per request in another thread, I've fixed the Desktop Home app for the Samsung Vibrant so that the one thing that doesn't seem to work properly, the "Alarm" button, is now ok.
You can grab the APK from:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I've also partially fixed the Vibrant Car Home app so that the icons are centered and the "Contacts" link works. The "Search" button doesn't seem to do anything and it seems to be hit & miss as to if you get a "Browser" icon or a "Voice Search" icon as pictured below. It may be a compatibility issue with the JME firmware I'm running, I'll have a play later. Anyway, you can grab the .APK from:
http://db.tt/qN07wwk
The app is incredibly no-frills, there's no other settings or options whatsoever other than what appears on the screen. I'd suggest using the Car Home v3 app from the market instead, although this one does look pretty.
The apps don't lock the screen on either so are probably not terribly useful without an actual dock.
If I can decipher the decompiled smali code some more, I'll replace the "Search" icon with a "Music" one. Changing the app an icon runs is easy, implementing it when it's not already doing something is less so.
Just realized that the Gallery app force closes when I chose "edit" from a picture menu. Anyone else getting this?
Fixed/Resolved. Apparently Wallpaper Wizardrii installs the Edit option in the Gallery menu and that's what was crashing.
wow, am I the only one experiencing this. have just updated to the latest FW (.12) and still get FC's when trying to edit a jpg. Getting "not a jpg, jpeg, png or bmp" after the FC.
Unless im missing something, the default gallery doesnt have an 'edit' function (other than the crop tool, which is called 'crop'). It sounds like you have an app (which isnt compatible), that has added this option.
It's the stock gallery app:

"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This is what happens after the FC. Get portrait wallpaper screen with no icons and the error message:
Then screen goes to normal landscape mode w/ app icons.

I guess you only get that option when you have it docked then, because its not there on mine. Another thing needing a fix.
Edit: A 'told you so' is in order then. I'm sure there will be an update to that app soon.
Yeah, kinda had that coming. Was driving me crazy though. I just figured the edit feature was new for HC. So now I got a working dock and no FC issues w/ gallery. Life is good.
Thanks for your help though.
I'm jealous of your dock, still waiting on mine. Glad you figured it out. One less thing to be fearful of when I get mine.

As you can see in the screenshot, after modifying the DPI to something more realistic and not comedic, the UI adjusted perfect except it didn't center the all apps icon above the home button. I'm wondering how this could be fixed through maybe a mod or something.
I do not want a new launcher that doesn't have Google Search built in. Its not the same stock experience. Any idea what I should do?

Depends what you are trying to do. Are you trying to get more docked icons at the bottom, or the main grid on the launcher. Basically, what I did is I changed my DPI to 439 (wanted 445, but notifications get cut off in the pulldown bar). This is ideal for me and gives me an app drawer grid of 5x6. However, the launcher grid stayed the same, so I used the Launcher Tweaks settings in Gravity Box to customize the launcher grid to 5x5. Now, I still only have 4 apps in the dock tray on the bottom (plus the app drawer icon in the middle), but I do have a 5x5 grid on the homescreen. It looks like it came from the factory this way.
1. Sometimes applications after being killed stay in the task manager and hang until a new application is opened.
2. In the dark, with the minimum screen brightness, with the dark/black wallpaper set, a grey bar is visible at the top of the screen.
- This is a software issue, because this is only visible on the home screen and when you drag application icons around the screen, this bar disappears.
- Probably related to the effect of dimming the screen at the top and bottom by the launcher.

3. Dark mode for some reason darkens the entire wallpaper on the home screen.
Normal/Light mode:
Dark mode:
There is a setting in the wallpaper settings that you can toggle on and off the wallpaper to follow the dark mode rule.
Not sure on the other issue

I searched the settings and didn't find this option.
Could you show me where it is?
My apologies. For some reason this appeared in the note 10 page...
