Do fastboot flash boot boot.img
make sure its the boot.img from the rom you were/are currently running. The phone will reboot.

The answer to your question is No.

so how do you update to 8.1 while rooted? Thx
edit: figured it out. Edit the flash-all script and take out the -w and just have 1 space there. go into bootloader and flash it. reboot back into bootloader after and fastboot boot twrp then flash twrp and magisk.

No idea. Still trying to figure this out, currently trying to flash the .img like you said with the toolkit. But thinking maybe flashing the whole 8.1 ROM. Should work ......I think ...:cyclops:

you dont need the toolkit for that.
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
let phone reboot then you can use skip toolkit. get the latest one that supports 8.1
Doing the above gets rid of the red triangle error "device is corrupt"

Yes fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
But TWRP can flash recovery.img itself. Switch to IMG instead of ZIP in the Install menu.

What is your bootloader version? It should be HHZ12h if you are running Android 5.1.1. It can create issues if you still have an old one.

Can't install TWRP (FRD-L09 EMUI 5.0 Nougat)

Hi, I have a new phone and before unlocking the bootloader/TWRP/root I updated to EMUI 5.0.
Now I'm unable to install TWRP. I tryed different version of it.
Every time I flashed it on fastboot, no error, but when the phone reboot, I still have the eRecovery of EMUI. Even if a tryed the compatible TWRP for Nougat, I still have this issue.
Any support captain? Is there a way to downgrade to Emui 4.0?
Are you using a button combination or adb to get into recovery?

I have exactly the same problem, flashed almost every version of TWRP - no errors but every time I end up in emui recovery.
So what do you exactly did to enter the twrp?

I used this thread to unlock and root and it didn't work (the twrp section):

maybe the author can update this section and put there link to working twrp: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/twrp-t3566563

TWRP faIls to flash and install Magisk :(

Whenever I flash twrp (via fastboot) on my OP6, it comes out successful, but when I boot to it, it sticks on the TWRP splash screen and doesnt do anything until i hold down the power button to force shut it down and boot to system, i can flash bootable twrp, but then i cannot install magisk, because i was getting an error saying that there isnt enough space in /boot, i have no clue what to do and just want to get twrp and root, this has never happened to me before, if anyone has an idea why its happening or how to fix it then please say . Thanks in advance.

stuck on bootloader mode

I wanted to root my phone using the xda tutorial, everything was going well until i flashed twrp. Minute 5:14 in the tutorial
Then as it is shown in the tutorial I went to recovery mode but nothing happened, it just goes into the oneplus logo and shows the bootloader advice and then goes back to the bootloader.
I used the latest version of everything and checked it was the right model.
How did you flash twrp without having twrp in the first place?
You can only "fastboot boot" it?
i did that, sorry if i'm not clear i've never rooted any phone before
we are going to need more info
what OS version are you on and model of phone (Global, 5G, Tmobo, or EU)
what version of twrp did you try to flash?
