Samsung Smart View and Samsung Connect, hum ... - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

So the 8+ arrived today, 955F, stock 7.0, and it's now rooted and my s7 apps mostly all installed.
With my S7, non-rooted on 935U OS (ex AT&T phone), I can Smart View cast to my Samsung 4K and LG 4K just fine, but not with the 8+. It will not Smart View cast successfully to either tv.
With the 8+ on my LG tv I can use the Samsung Connect app and view my camera videos with sound/photos, just fine!
I have searched Samsung, google, and here, and have not found anything that has solved this issue for me, though i have tried others solutions. Changing resolution, no difference. I've been unable to change the aspect ratio when it seems Smart View pops that setting up to 'match' the device I'm trying to Smart View/connect with, as the 16:9 is ghosted out. The message on the phone states "Couldn't turn on Smart View", and on the LG it says "Unable to connect with Screen Share".
I have tried installing Samsung Smart View (Miracast) from GPS and that did not work. I have a nand backup after just having rooted the brand new phone and before any/my apps were added, or any updates to the phone were done, and it's no different than with my apps on the phone.
I'm baffled. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?

Well, after a night of mux'in around with the phone, I flashed CarHDROM and the phone works as engineered and designed with Smart View.

I'm not sure, could be a software bug of some sort.. You'll just have to wait and see if an update fixes it. Or your Bravia may be too old to connect to such a new phone, who knows..
I was playing with this yesterday on my Samsung Smart TV. If I selected screen mirroring on the TV nothing would happen. The s7 showed that I was connected to the TV and on the TV I could select media in source options to look at pics and home video. I found that with smart view app on s7 when I selected a movie to watch it automatically was displayed on the TV. Haven't tried mirroring games yet or just the home screen but that might need a different app than smart view. Hope this helps a bit

same thing happens to me. screen mirroring used to work. but i cant remember if it was before rooting or after. can it be the problem? still stock rom though
i think that it is a bug
i solved it. since i got my first android phone s2 and then s3 i experienced the same problem because i always rooted my phones. i also rooted my 27 and lost the screen mirroring and other features. then today i flashed the stock original firmware and everything is normal now. this bug, losing screen mirroring feature after rooting, is a big time problem that nobody can solve. if you need help you can check out this link as i did. you have to unroot it if you want to use those feature.

There is another way to solve this issue with Root:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0JqRf6sygM
(dont be irritated by the error message in this video ... it is working withe the "Failed to enable smart view. Error occured." message)
I tested it an a rooted 930F with custom recovery (didn't affect this but just wanted to mention) and the "Failed to enable smart view. Error occured." message . You can make smart view working again by adding the following line to the build.prop file:
Code:
wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable
After adding this quick connect and smart view (basicly the same) are working like charm.
I hope I could help other people with this solution ... despite this thread is a little old.

Thanks a million! It worked like a charm
(Using Samsung Galaxy S6 edge - SM-G925F with stock rooted firmware)
This technology is a joke. It has so many bugs. Samsung is falling apart. Their latest phones and televisions are overpriced garbage. Although, it's difficult to find a tech-company that isn't full of **** these days. What happened, Samsung?? Why doesn't any of your stuff work anymore? Bait & switch?
---------- Post added at 12:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:35 AM ----------
Why does smart view only seem to work sporadically at best? I've got a brand new Samsung 8 series TV and a brand new Samsung S7. I can't say I'd recommend either device. Both were overpriced. Neither does what they said they'd do. Samsung doesn't seem to care. No help available.
I didn't root my S7 but I can't mirror the screen, just happen just one day and didn't work any more. Any idea? I have the rom stock from britain version with Android 7.0
Thanks for this fixing...
What about TV to Phone issue?
Is there anybody tried?

I know this is a few months old but make sure you reboot after editing the build.prop file. Did it yesterday and it worked fine.
Hi,
I'm bumping this old thread again as I haven't found a definite answer. I still have my S7 SM-G930F on stock MM/TW because I refuse to lose smartview functionality which works perfectly with my Samsung UN55H6350 on WiDi, (no Wifi needed). From what I have researched, Nougat update broke Smartview. Because It's reportedly never functioned the same since then, I have the below questions:
Does Smartview WiDi work on stock rooted MM/TW? WiDi functionality is essential to me. I stream phone content to my TV without WiFi most of the time. This is a deal breaker for me.
Does Smartview WiDi work on stock rooted Nougat/TW?
Are there any MM or Nougat Custom Roms where Smartview works over WiDi?
Thanks for reading, LMK if anything is unclear.

Here WeGo non Samsung phone

So it seems that the Here wego maps/navigation app is not available for the s3 if you aren't using a Samsung phone. (I happen to use an LG v20)
Has anyone found a way to side load the app? Or what is the best alternative maps application for the s3?
Ok I found a way around the issue for anyone watching this thread... It's a little crazy and not for everyone.... I happen to have a Samsung Galaxy S7 as a work phone... I connected my S3 to that phone, where it installed HERE by default.... I then backed up the watch to my samsung account and then reconnected the watch to my LG V20 and restored the backup which included HERE.... Boom.... Problem solved
That's strange.. I got my S3 R-760 back in October 2017 from the UK. Immediately paired to a Sony Z5 and has been like that ever since, even after the ROM updates. One of the first things I did was to install HERE. Can't remember how exactly but it wans't a hassle so I assume straight from the watch or the store. I guess it has been removed after I installed it. Using it now as a standalone, no connection to the phone is required, just direct connection to the internet via wifi or hotspot. Of course I do not have the convenience of using it through the phone which could make it easier to search etc, but it is good enough.
Nice workaround you found, but for those that do not have the option of a Samsung phone, this thread could help: https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/help/wego-t3724511/page3
Hmm - I downloaded from Google onto my OnePlus 5T, installed on watch from Gear store and that was it.

LG Gwatch 100 push screen from phone

I have a G watch W100 and in the past, it could always link with my phone through Wear OS and allow some of the many apps I have to show up in the watch apps list. I returned to it recently with a view to using it with a navigation app called Back Country Navigator. I know this has worked fine in the past with the my robust Ulephone Armor X5 on Android 9 but at this time it will no longer send or link apps to the watch. I bought another G watch w100 recently as they are very cheap for what I wish to finally do and that has similar issues but at least one app does link across and show up in the apps list. However when I open it it wont fully open. The watches are both working fine with the many google apps available
Is there a simple app that works and just pushes the faces screen of the phone across to the simple G watch. I dont need any watch functionality, just a simple screen copy that follows the phone screen. All functions can be controlled by the screen on the phone.
Neither watch appears to have internet connectivity via the bluetooth on the phone. Any help much appreciated. Is it worth rooting the watch and trying to install later versions of WearOS as some are doing on here. TIA Hugh
I have the same problem. LG G .

Running specific app with custom fingerprint and props

Hi, I own a tab s6 lte, rooted with magisk.
My situation is that the tablet is my daily device, which does not support the galaxy watches series. The Wearable app does not show up options to pair with samsung smartwatches, and the galaxy store return errors saying my tablet is not supported whenever I try to use the "Watch" section in the store.
However, I followed this guide and got my watch paired with the tablet: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...h-a-rooted-galaxy-tab-s4-android-9-0.3931474/
So turns out this is just a cheap software-wise trick from samsung, my watch got access to the galaxy store, but not for long. As soon as I connect the watch to the tablet through bluetooth (after rebooting from resetting the custom fingerprint and props), the galaxy store stop working, for both of my devices. So every time I need to update my apps on galaxy store, or want to download an app, I have to change the fingerprint, and set custom props. I can't stay with the custom identity, as some of the props, especially setting "ro.build.characteristics" to "phone" make my ui looks weird and "overly compact"
So I'm looking for a solution to help running just 2 selected specific apps with custom fingerprint and props, hoping anyone can help.

Question Any way to get Smart View working on an A12?

My friend bought a Galaxy A12 to use Smart View to mirror his phone's screen to his Samsung TV. But apparently Smart View isn't installed on his A12...
I tried installing it but it mostly leads to scam apps that don't work and show lots of ads.
I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get Smart View working on an A12? Maybe there's an APK download somewhere?
Or any other recommended way to get screen mirroring working with an A12 phone and a new(ish) Samsung TV?
Thanks for any help.
Restart it and make sure you don't have VPN with it
I did restart it, and there's no VPN
