Samsung Gear Sport remote connection and OnePlus - Samsung Gear Sport

Hello all,
do you know whether the 'remote connection' is only for users that have Galaxy phones?
I bought a Samsung gear sport and I'm trying to remotely connect to my phone (via wifi), but with no success. I use OnePlus 3 with the latest official ROM (Oreo).
I have tried to connect from my watch remotely to my phone many times, but it is impossible. I know that the watch connects to the wifi and gets internet access, since I downloaded a watch face from the Galaxy app store with the watch connected only to the wifi.
I was convinced that I was doing something wrong, but when I did a reset to my watch and then connected it to a friend's Galaxy S8, the watch connected remotely with no problem.
This makes me think that it is something on the OnePlus ROM that prevents the watch to connect to my OnePlus 3 remotely?
has anyone (with a non-samsung phone) managed to successfully connect remotely via wifi?
I hope this function is not only for Galaxy users

I was having the same problem with my One Plus 3T, so I messaged Samsung and got this response.

I didn't really feel like that would do anything for me since I thought it sounded like they thought I was using a Samsung phone.
But I later tried turning on Bluetooth on my gear sport, then I tried pairing it with my One Plus 3T like I would any other Bluetooth device. To my surprise, it was able to find the watch. Afterwards, I then went into the Samsung Gear app and tried the setup again and this time it found the watch pretty much instantly.
I don't know if this will work for you but I can only hope
EDIT:
Also I'm using the latest open beta version of Oxygen OS.

By 'remote connection' do you mean the automatic connection between the watch and phone which shares notifications?
If so then yea, I have a Nexus 6p and it connects fine. As the above poster noted you do have to have the bluetooth on and pair it with the watch manually during the set up.

[Q] Gear 2 Neo with Galazy S2 SGHT989D

I have just bought a gear 2 neo smartwatch and cannot get it connected with my phone. I have a samsung galaxy s2 model # sght989d. The phone is running cyanogenmod 11 (4.4.3). The watch will pair with my phone and receive calls no problem however I cannot get it initialized to even use it as a clock lol. All I see when I turn on the watch is "To Connect your Gear, first download Gear Manager via Samsung Apps on you're mobile device" with an option to show a preview video or hit next. I have tried multiple version of gear manager and got the phone to pair no problem however it is not an available device. I understand that it will never fully work with my phone due to how old it is and its lacking a bunch of features. I just want to use the basic features and have the time on my wrist is this possible.
Thank You :good:

Pairing gear s2 with tab s2 ?

Hi there,
First question :
I'm still wondering why tab s2 is not in the official supported devices list by Samsung?
Second question :
Is there any way to pair the gear s2 with the tab s2?
So far I tried some tutorials in some posts around here, but no luck: gear manager won't detect my gear s2 on my tab s2...I guess its because it's just impossible?
Let me know if there is something else to try
Many thanks!
No chance to make it work together ?! Sad !
Anyway, Merry Christmas to All
I tested on my friend's tab s2. It even did not detect my gear s2 on bluetooth pairing. Really like the tab but not buying it because of this problem
Sent from my GEM-703L using Tapatalk
Hi, just to let you know I got it to work! Here is what I did :
Rooted tab s2 t715y
Edited the build prop (via app available on playstore) changed device type to phone and device name to the note 4 model number as this is what the tab s2 basically is
Just by doing this my tablet was able to pair with the watch!
I haven't changed the device type back yet, the only issue at the moment is that the dialer on the tablet isnt visible.
Also I have not been able to use att number sync yet, I will call them in the morning.
Let me know if this works.
I have the att 3g model by the way.
---------- Post added at 05:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:47 AM ----------
Ok so I changed it back to tablet mode and everything is working normally. I'm getting notifications etc and my tab s2 dialer is working fine too.
And the Gear Manager app on the tab recognizes your watch?
Tab S2 (T817T) paired connected to Gear S2
I also have rooted my Tab S2 (T817T) and paired and connected it to my Gear S2 Watch. The tablet recognizes the watch and the GearApp recognizes and connects to it as well. However, under the Notifications sections (notifications to be sent to watch) "messages" is not available as an option to forward messages from my tablet's native message app to the phone. I also cannot connect to the Gear App store to download and install apps from the tablet to the watch. Have you experienced this and found a fix?
It needs to be rooted.
What needs to be rooted? Are you saying the watch needs to be rooted?
biggboii: yes it is working without any issues other than the limitations of tizen. I can leave my tablet at home and still get texts and whatsapp messages on my watch. I havent been able to use ATT's "number sync' which basically sounds like call forwarding . I still havent had time to try setting call forwarding manually.
The Tab s2 needs to be rooted.
i can access the gear app store , it does crash on the first try every now and then.
As for messages , I can receive and send text messages as well as whatsapp messages through a bluetooth connection and 3G remote connection.
I did not do anything different then what I mentioned above , it just seems to work. again my watch is the ATT version so I dont know if things are different with the bluetooth version.
the gear app is very limiting though. I wish there was a way to change the watch's OS to android.
can't get it to work, gear manager keep saying device not found
any suggestions?

do you have the att version of the watch?
I have a rooted T715Y and did the things I mentioned in the post above and it worked.
make sure your tablet is rooted and that you change the model to that of a note 4 (using a build prop editor)
then make sure you change the "device type" from tablet to phone.
thats all I did and after the watch was synced up with the tablet I changed the settings back.
I also can't connect my GearS3 with my TabS2. Send numorous emails to Samsung, and so far their responses are dissapointing. Feel cheated. This two devices are supposedly their flagship products.

Set time without smartphone

Hi,
I received this gift (Samsung Gear S2) but at the moment my smartphone (Nexus 5) have some issues and i'm wainting that LG send me a new one or fix it.
I have a big issue, how can i set time without smartphone?
I have try all kind of reset but i do not obtain result.
I hope that this community can be help me to find a solution
thx in advance
bye bye

Hello KaiserOrn,
Unfortunately I believe there is no way to do that...
I recently found the need to do so because I rendered my Samsung Phone and replaced it with a brand new iPhone 6s Plus...
I tried and I tried and I tried but no joy...
I searched the internet for a solution for hours but I couldn't find anything or even that much people looking for the same kind of solution.
In my case I paired my Gear S2 with a friend's Samsung Phablet, reinstalled everything and now I have it in Stand Alone mode but with everything working as it should.
In my particular case I will have to wait for both Samsung and Apple to launch the Gear Manager for iOS and then we will see it from then...
For now I have my problem solved.
Although I solved my immediate problem, my Gear S2 serves as nothing more than an ordinary watch... LOL
Good luck on your quest.
Cheers.
Hmmm... not sure if this was missing in older firmware (I just got my classic 3G to replace my older sport 3G, so all I have to test is the newest firmware)...
On my watch I can go to Settings->Device and the last item in the list is 'Date and Time'.
Select that, and the first item is a toggle, 'Automatic'. If selected, the watch gets its time from the paired phone, and all the other items in the Date and Time list are grayed out, unselectable.
Toggle 'Automatic' off, and you will then be able to select Date, Time, and Time Zone items to set manually.
Of course, this may be a 3G-only thing, as it can always connect directly to the network and get the time. Still, since there is a manual mode, it makes no sense this wouldn't be in the non-3G versions too.

Dear dwallersv,
That option you mention above is only available on 3G models...
In non 3G models there is no point in having it since "automatic" mode will never have an time server to query...
The manual mode would work but they never made oit available.
Cheers.

Darn, I suspected that.
However, you're not quite correct, in that obviously the non-3G models DO get their time from the phone, so it is "automatic" in every sense that it is on the 3G. In fact, the 3G network can be turned off completely on the watch and it still get its time via BT (just as the non-3G versions do).
So 3G, from a technical standpoint, really has nothing necessarily to do with "automatically" setting the time on the watch.
Why Samsung left the manual setting mode out of the non-3G firmware is unexplained. It certainly has nothing to do with the functionality itself of standalone 3G capability, as is obvious in the way non-3G watches set their time to begin with -- automatically from the phone
I believe it is simply because samsung would like to have dependency on their products.
I would like to stop using a smartphone and I have a samsung tablet, which they choose to exclude from the Samsung Gear App. Samsung makes it impossible to use my watch without a phone which gives me the choice to use all or dump all while using a (Samsung) tablet with Samsung watch would be an ideal solution to me.

This is totally possible, that's how I roll. I use an Frontier LTE as my phone and keep a tablet on hand for tasks requiring a larger screen. I find that a watch & tablet combination is more convenient and efficient than carrying a smartphone.
There are a couple of folks on the forum who have installed the Gear Manager app on a Samsung tablet by modifying the build prop file. I want the flexibility of using multiple devices (iPad, Tab S2) without disrupting the watch's setup, so I have a disposable phone dedicated exclusively to managing the watch. It's permanently docked next to my home router and stays remotely connected to the watch, to pass along notifications. With a service like Digits, NumberSync, or Google Voice, all calls and messages are shared across devices. There is no need for them to to be paired via BT.
My setup is a little complicated, but your needs may be different. The S3 LTE (I'm not sure about S2 3G) does not need a smartphone. It can be setup without Gear Manager. Right out the box, it can handle calls and texts, provide basic info like time/date/weather, track fitness, set reminders, etc.
A watch can't do everything a smartphone can do, but it does some things better. A tablet can do many things better than a smartphone, but sometimes it's too big. A watch and tablet compliment each other perfectly.

I figured this out...
You need to go to "Settings", "About" and "Reset Gear" - note - you will lose all of your apps and watch faces when you reset your gear.
When setting up the gear, you will be prompted to install the gear software on your phone. Scroll down on your watch until you see the "?" for help in that screen.
Press the "?" (question mark button) and you will be brought to a new screen which gives you the option of using your watch without your phone. It says something to the effect of "If you would like to use your watch without a smart phone, press here.
Press underlined "here" and you will be able to setup the watch for use without a smartphone.
Again - this is a destructive reset! So make sure all of your apps and watch faces are synched in a phone first.

This thread suggests that the option to answer calls on BT-only watches works only with Samsung phones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s2/help/question-answering-call-watch-t3251133

thanks for your reply and help. i did read that..but some people said it used to work..was wondering which version worked..
silly of samsung to disable this feature.
I still have an option to answer a call on my s2 classic. I hope it wouldn't just disappear like the messaging on the 4 app shortcut widget.
I recently went between an s7 edge and a pixel with my gear s2. I noticed I was no longer able to take calls on the watch when I went over to my pixel, but it was not a problem when using my s7 edge.
I figured it out. I don't know why, but I can say for certain that when a gear watch connects to a samsung phone, it defaults to the connection being a media and phone device (rather than the low-powered mode that, say, android wear watches do). Automatically. Always. On my pixel, the connection as a media and phone device must be initiated manually.
On my pixel I went to bluetooth devices and connected to my gear s2, which connected as a media and phone device. After that, the watch will answer phone calls on the watch directly. This all makes sense. The only difference is that on my pixel (anything other than my samsung phone actually), it does not default to connecting to the watch as a media/phone device (only low-powered peripheral).
Hope that helps.
I know this is old, but I wanted to offer a solution to the same problem I faced with a ZTE Blade Max. Goto bluetooth settings and click S2 in paired items then settings or options, then tick the option for phone audio. Problem solved!

Hi there! I've tried to use this solution but I can't find any kind of option as the one you suggest. I have a Xiaomi Redmi note 7. Is there any other option you can offer? Thank you so much for your time!
you have to change your build.prop to show a samsung device. cent remember where it is in the build.prop, but im fairly certain that this is the issue. This popped up pretty frequently back when the watches first came out and i had to do this myself as i was running an AOSP ROM on my old S5 when i got my first smartwatch (Gear 2 Neo) until i flashed android wear on it and no longer had the option to answer calls at all on my watch

Running specific app with custom fingerprint and props

Hi, I own a tab s6 lte, rooted with magisk.
My situation is that the tablet is my daily device, which does not support the galaxy watches series. The Wearable app does not show up options to pair with samsung smartwatches, and the galaxy store return errors saying my tablet is not supported whenever I try to use the "Watch" section in the store.
However, I followed this guide and got my watch paired with the tablet: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...h-a-rooted-galaxy-tab-s4-android-9-0.3931474/
So turns out this is just a cheap software-wise trick from samsung, my watch got access to the galaxy store, but not for long. As soon as I connect the watch to the tablet through bluetooth (after rebooting from resetting the custom fingerprint and props), the galaxy store stop working, for both of my devices. So every time I need to update my apps on galaxy store, or want to download an app, I have to change the fingerprint, and set custom props. I can't stay with the custom identity, as some of the props, especially setting "ro.build.characteristics" to "phone" make my ui looks weird and "overly compact"
So I'm looking for a solution to help running just 2 selected specific apps with custom fingerprint and props, hoping anyone can help.
