[ROM][MOD] Lenovo A820

Dear Owners,
Discontinued
In this post you can find a multilingual (mainly European) modified rom for the smartphone Lenovo A820.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
The newer phones do not work well with S138 or older kernel (no info about S147).
The sympthom is that the touch screen works on inappropriate way: after the first screenlock it does not work again.
For this reason it is highly recommended that update your kernel if you have got this issue.
The kernel changer to S150 zip can be run from modified recovery (CWM, TWRP, COT, Carliv, etc...).
Note that all the things in this thread you do with your phone can be dangerous. I cannot take responsibility for your phone damage.
So, do it at your own risk.
Before you do anything, I recommend you to save your current ROM (I would say it is mandatory!)
There are many ways to save and I highlight some (links will be added later):
1, for non-rooted phones:
- SP_Flashtool, readback option.
- CWM (or TWRP) backup, if it is available on your phone
2, for rooted phones:
- MTKDroidTools backup
- command line dd-backup
In order to install this ROM, you need to have CWM recovery on your phone.
If you have not got this recovery or you do not know which recovery you have got, you have to read post#3 before you do anything.
If you get error during the installation of the ROM, see post#4.
The restore option of the CWM rcovery is not as good as it could have been expected, so please read post#4 carefuly for CWM restoration issues, tricks.
Update: CWM 6.0.4.0 with S150 stock kernel.
Just to clarify the power-on modes:
Normal phone mode: press the power button
Meta mode: VOLUME DOWN + POWER
Factory mode: VOLUME UP + POWER
Recovery mode: VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP + POWER
Consider the warranty issues, you need to backup you rom.
In addition, I always suggest to do a backup before install any new ROM to your phone.
You can do it with CWM recovery in backup menu.
About installation in general.
Pre-requisites: CWM recovery menu installed on your phone. (This ROM can be installed from CWM recovery.)
The ROM file must be saved on your physical SD card.
Enter into CWM recovery.
In CWM recovery you can go up/down with the volume up/down keys. The “enter” is the power button.
Choose the “install zip from SD card” menu item.
Choose the “choose zip from SD card” menu item.
Select the rom you want to install.
Choose “OK” in the menu item.
If you need a detailed explanation of its use, see the tutorial : http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com/2012/02/complete-guide-to-clockworkmod-recovery.html
Right after the ROM installation has been finished, you can install gapps as well, before restart.
Windorws driver installation:
Please do not ask me about it. I use mainly Linux, which is more friendly.
What I did in XP under Virtualbox was:
Downloaded the Lenovo drivers from here: <link>
Manually added the com ports in control panel.
MOD CP4.0
V1
The modified rom has got the stock kernel - Lenovo A820_ydss_S135_130403
This completely changes your phone appearance, your Lenovo UI will be disappeared.
Also Lenovo applications are not integrated to this rom.
It will look like the stock Jelly Bean.
Main features:
-The firmware is rooted.
-Boot logo, boot/shutdown animations and sounds are changed to Lenovo.
-Minimalist appearance and content, for this reason you have to install google applications manually, from CWM recovery <link>. After gapps installation everything works well (many people wants to have mainly Google Play. It do work.)
-Slide unlock.
-Multilingual. For supported languages, see the screenshots.
-The default language/region is Hungarian, but you can easily choose your one.
Known bugs:
- I found was that the charging logo with turned off phone is not proper.
-the camera does not work adequately in video-camera mode.
-the default setting in some of the application is V987.
V2
The modified rom has got the stock kernel - Lenovo A820_S135_130403
The camera was changed to a non-multilingual one. It looked that the black screen in camcorder mode solved.
But after googleapps something went wrong... black screen again.
V3
The modified rom has got the stock kernel - Lenovo A820_S135_130403
In V3 there is not any significant changes (camera app was changed back to the multilingual one), but I modified the gapps, which caused the camcorder issue.
So, for this modified rom you need to use this gapps.
V3 download link: CP4.0-by-cappa72-v3 - dropbox
or
CP4.0-by-cappa72-v3 - 4shared
Bug: Still, the camera has got green lines in the case of playback.
CP4.1
V1
The kernel has changed to A820_YDSS_S130_130324.
The camera application does not generate green bands in playback.
The default language was set to English, default time zone was set to London.
CP4.1-by-cappa72-v1
You can use the googleapps mentioned for CP4.0-v3
CP4.2
V1
The kernel has changed to A820_S138_130419
CP4.2-by-cappa72-v1
Bug list
#3 - CP4.2-v1 - Wen try to choose themes, the laucher is Force Closed (FC) - Settings was modified to resolve this issue.
#4 - CP4.2-v1 - Serial number is 0123456789ABCDEF instead of the original S/N - not a real bug
#5 - CP4.2-v1 - Under the battery level of 15% the SystemUI is Force Closed (FC) - was a user error, when people deleted the necessary ui files.
CP4.3
This release will be the continuation of the 4.2, but with the newest available kernel (S150) and will (plan) contain all the things that are included in the 5.3.
This will not be with Aromainstaller and will contain the gapps.
Hopefully comng within two weeks.
MOD CP5.3
Available now (25.11.2013.)
CP5.3
V1
Change log; what’s new compared to CP4.2
Aromainstaller is used for optional installation possibilities.
- still Jelly Bean 4.1
- kernel is the stock S150
- Modified systemUI by [email protected] (1% battery signal; automatic hide function for non-used sim signal)
- Modified Settings by apeelme (sloving bug #3)
- Baseband is from the stock ROM S150.
- gps.conf is set to EU by default
- apns.xml is modified for Telenor-HU from “net” to “online”
- gps-tracker solver added to build.prop (dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:fast)
- libvcodecdrv.so replaced to solve green bars in case of video playback.
- updated MobileUncleTools (2.9.5) in case of 3rd party SW.
There is no default ringtone set! Right after the installation you have to set the ringtone, message alert and so on... otherwise your phone will not play sound...
Important feature!
If you have already repartitioned with the script, you can simply install this ROM, it will recognise that the repartition had been done; and you do not have to run "disable internal SD card" script from CWM.
But please note that this function is onyl available with the repartition script; with Meteos rom editor repartitioning this function is not available.
Right after the installatio, there is not any sound set. Nor the ringtone, nor the message an alert. So, you have to set it first.
Available on mediafire : Link
md5sum: 86e241fcac6faf4fa6baf0f9cc4a18a0
Additional possibility:Change of FM radio
The FM radio can be changed back to Lenovo’s one with this script. It was requested by some people due to the fact that Lenovo’s FM radio can work without connecting the earphone.
The link is here. http://data.hu/get/6494163/FM-radio-change.zip
You can install it from CWM recovery, with the same method that you used during the installation of the ROM. This script does not affect any other part of the ROM, but the FM radio.
Repartition
Please DO NOT USE IT for Lenovo-based ROMs. Sometimes it can cause bootloop or other inconvenience.
The repartition of internal memory of the Lenovo A820 phone has been solved already.
With this action youd intednal SD card will be disappeared and will be added to the /data partition.
Before you do anything, make a CWM backup, and save all your data from internal SD card!
The easiest way is to use this CWM script, if you want to have the maximum available size (2,7GB) for the /data partition.
You have to install it from CWM recovery.
After the installation you need to do a factory reset.
After the factory reset, you have to disable your internal SD card, with CWM script.
And then, you can reboot your phone to check if yo have got the new size of /data partition:
settings --> storage
"internal data storage; full capacity 2,7GB"
"internal SD card; full capacity <your physical SD card capacity"
If the above data appear, you have successfully repartitioned you phone's internal memory!
If you want to have your data back, go into CWM recovery, and choose
backup and restore --> advanced restore --> <choose your save> --> Restore data
And then, your data are available again, after the reboot.
Please do not use it, if you do not want to have the 2,7GB of /data partition!
For Lenovo-based ROMs you need to use Meteos-apk for repartition of A820.
Internal/external SD card exchanger
If you want to use your physical SD card as the default one, and still want to use your emmc-SD card (aka internal SD card by default), you can change it by this CWM script.

CWM recovery
Installing CWM on your phone
You need to install proper drivers to your computer.
Available (ported) CWM recoveries:
With newest kernel:
CWM recovery 6.0.1.2 - S150 - ported from [email protected] ZTE V970 recovery.
CWM recovery 6.0.4.0 - S150 - ported from [email protected] ZTE V967S recovery.
CWM recovery 6.0.1.2 - S138 - ported from [email protected] ZTE V970 recovery.
CWM recovery 6.0.1.2 - S135 - ported from [email protected] ZTE V970 recovery.
Option 1, with SP Flashtool
Download the SP_Flashtool software to your computer. Extract it to a directory, where you want to run it from.
Download the scatter file, which you will need if you want to use SP_Flashtool.
Download the CWM
(5.5.0.4, 6.0.1.2, 6.0.2.8; it is your decision)
Run the SP_Flashtool.
Browse your scatter file.
Choose only the recovery.
Tick the “DA DL all with checksum” (you can find it close to the download button). It is a really important point!
If your phone is connected, let’s disconnect it from the computer.
Turn off your phone. Take the battery out from your phone for 5 sec. Insert the battery to you phone. Keep it still turned off.
In the flashtool press the Download button.
Choose OK to the warning message.
Connect your phone to the computer.
The flashtool will flash the recovery into your phone.
When the green circle appears, wait for 5-10 secs, and the unplug your phone.
If everything went well, you can enter into the recovery menu (see 1st post, power-on modes)
Option 2, on rooted phone, with MobileUncleTools.
Install MobileUncletools 2.8.x or higher from the Play Store.
Save one of the CWM I linked to the root directory of your physical SD card.
- select menuitem Recovery Update. The program will list the available recovery images.
- choose the one, what you want to install
- It asks back: "Are you sure flash recovery!" - Use recovery file: <name of the recovery what you choose previously>. Tap to OK.
- After the flashing process it offers you to reboot into recovery. If you tap OK, it will automatically reboot your phone to recovery. If you tap cancel, you can use your phone as a phone.
- Before you tap to "reboot to recovery", I suggest you to wait approx. 5-10sec.
Use of the CWM.
If you enter into the CWM (6.x.x.x) recovery, the following buttons can be used:
- Power button : “enter”
- Volume down : step down in the menu
- Volume up : step up in the menu
- Soft key “option”: step down in the menu
- Soft key “back” : step back in the menu
In 5.x.x.x you cannot use soft keys, but the physical buttons works on the same way as in the case of 6.x.x.x
CWM restoration
I experienced failures in restoration of the CWM backup.
This was a real surprise for me because I have not faced this issue with other MTK phones.
So, the issue is that the CWM restoration does not work immediately.
In details:
-I saved the stock rom by CWM 6.0.1.2 (CWM was complied by Bruno, and I modified it for A820)
-For checking the restore function, I did a factory reset: the phone stopped working.
-I did the CWM restoration, but still the phone stopped at the boot animation. And stayed it for 15min. I removed the battery then.
In order to solve the issue, the following method was done:
-In the advanced restore I choose the restore /system (only!)
-After restoring the /system I turned off the phone took the battery out, waited 5 secs, inserted the battery back.
-Turning on the phone it worked again with the restored data, BUT the internal SD card was injured! I formatted the internal SD card – with this action I lost all my data that were saved on the internal SD card.
So, please be careful using it! Save your internal SD card data before the CWM restoration!
This was experience in case of all the available CWM (5.5.0.4, 6.0.1.2, 6.0.2.8).
Installation issues
Post#4 troubleshooting
If you cannot install the ROM by an error:
Code:
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.model") == "Lenovo A820"
E:Error in /sdcard/Lenovo-a820-update-CP4.0-v1.zip (status 7)
This is a safety feature, not a bug.
This error message is a warning that you have not got the proper CWM. (Most of the available CWMs are based on ZTE, STAR phones and contain improper model description.
My CWMs contain the proper one, I modified them, so you need to install a CWM I mod for Lenovo A820.
In this case you have to update your CWM to a ported one that I did.
Great!
I would love an multi lingual rom, but for now I just want to root it. (ones it gets delivered that is)
Are there tools specific for this device to root is with out flashing?
Checking out your rom in the meantime. :fingers-crossed:

If you have got CWM recovery on your phone (or a chinese one that has got "xx SD yyy ZIP" menuitem), then you can use root-zip, installing it from CWM recovery.
Thanks
Thanks

I tried to upload some, but the server was down that time.
I will try it again tomorrow.
Thanks for this rom, I flashed it succesfull on the Lenovo A820, it also takes away that terrible skin from Lenovo.
Gapps link
Thnak you for your ROM. I tried it for a couple of hours and there some minor problems that I don´t know if there are rom related.
1. There is no link to the gapps, so I downloaded a random one and I have errors with google search.
2. The videocam record with a green band on one side.
3. The gps is slow, doesn´t pick satellites easily.
4. If you choose automatic time the it always consider that you´re in china. If you choose manually your timezone then it is ok.
Overall it is a very well-done rom and I would keep it for daily use.
Thanks
1. Are you sure you downloaded the Gapps for Android 4.1.x? You should have this gapps version: gapps-jb-20121011-signed, this the right version you should flash. I first flashed the rom and after that the gapps.
I have reproduced your issue and you need to update the Google search app in the playstore, after that the errors are gone.
2. I have reproduced what you reported, I want to try if I can grab the original camera app from Lenovo and see if it still has the issue, but I don't think its a big problem, I bought the phone for someone else, but this issue is not to big, I don't suppose people often record with an smartphone and this rom at least got Dutch in, the original phone firmware was bloated with China Unicom bloatware, Lenovo skin and had no Dutch support.
3. Try GPSfix, ussualy this kinda works, but the MT6577 chip was know for having GPS problems, perhaps its the same with MT6589? But there are many apps out there that can help you fix it.
I think this in a great rom, Lenovo is a big brand in China, so many will choose Lenovo and with this rom you get rid off the terrible lephone skin, I mentioned this rom in my review about this phone
Oh here you got some screenshots.
Feel free to use them in the OP.
Don't know about you but I do use my device a lot for video recording.
I think it is imperative that all basic functions work flawlessly.
The custom rom's with android 4.2 also have an video bug at this time, which is a bit unacceptable.
I'm sure it will be sorted out :victory:
Well yes, but having fully Dutch support is better, you can always flash new update off the custom rom when it get fixed. I only recorded a few time video with my own smartphone.

1, I have added the link.
2, Thanks for the feedback, it is really useful to know. The playback contains the green band, the file itself does not.
I changed the kernel to the '130'-one, and now it works with the camera application, and the playback is also correct.
3, You shall try the EPO / A-GPS support for getting it better. Or thy DexterMorganNL's suggestion.
4, I have never faced this issue, but in the new version I set the default time zone to London.
The new one is available, you can see it in the first post.

Thank you for your time. I will try the new version. But, why have you used an older kernel?
By the way, with version 3 I also had some problems with the gyroscope when playing Real Racing 3.
Great work
Its great you released the update so fast, you brought us really good work. I think new owner off this phone is going be thankful, they requested me to buy a phone for them while I'm in China, and when I got it it was not fully Dutch supported, had the terrible skin.
So its great have this phone, because this way I can deliver it without the Chinese bloatware and with full Dutch language and ofcourse Google apps.
EDIT
The newest release gives me a black screen after I boot it up after having it flashed, so I have reverted back to your previous release.
OK. I'm ready to weep.
I've previously had a ROM from NeedRom on my A820.
I'd like to give Cappa's ROM a try, but when I try to install from CWM Recovery I hit the Error outlined in Post 4.
I then follow the advice of Post 3... But there are no links to A820-compatible CWM Recovery installations. I found one on a hungarian site linked to Cappa, but all I get is a .img file and no idea how to get that on to my phone.
Can anyone post detailed instructions, or send me to a page (in English) where I can find instructions on how to get the ball rolling so I can use Cappa's ROM?
Thanks.
Google is my friend. Yes. But Google Translate isn't.

Update, I think I sorted it...
Bit of imagination (and could have totally done the wrong thing, but it seems to be making progress...)
I decided to take a known ROM install that I've tested and that works, which has a recovery.img included, and I renamed the recovery.img to recovery_bak. I then renamed my 'new' CWMRecovery image to recovery.img and dumped it in the directory with the ROM data that I got off NeedRom. I loaded up SPFlashTool and loaded the scatter file from that ROM, then deselected every component except 'recovery' and flashed it.
End result is that I have a phone which recovery-boots to the version 6 cappa-modded CWMR which I found on the Hungarian site, and in turn that CWMR has just installed both the required ZIP updates outlined in Post 1, and Cappa's ROM is now sat on my second A820 awaiting setting up...
I hope I did the right thing, and this won't come back to bite me in the ass later... The newer recovery.img was slightly larger than the old one, but I'm assuming that the scatter file isn't about storing specific pieces of the ROM in specific places based on exact size of file, and thus perhaps all things will continue to work swimmingly.

New Menu Layout
Tar + Gzip Backup Compression : ( "Backup/Restore" -> "Default Backup Format" )
Your Backups will be smaller now, just like on the old native CWM
Removed "wipe all" option from wipe menu ( if you need to wipe system, use "format system" from "mounts/storage")
Rearanged menu order in root menu to restore CWM order
There's now an "nvram backup/restore" menu in "carliv" section
The nvram partition will be backed up in clockworkmod/backup folder as nvram.img. This will help if you lose IMEI and other communication features. It will work only if you have the nvram partition of size 0x500000 (check your scatter) and if you have the nvram defined as /dev/nvram path in recovery.fstab. If the nvram partition is damaged (as in flashing an oversized recovery) this will not help you, and you need SPFlashTools to reflash with format your phone official firmware, and after that flash this recovery, boot in recovery and restore nvram.
some other small changes.

Hi
You guys are all crazy with the MTK leaked sources, but do you even have an clue what those sources are?
You cant just compile an source that's customize for other phone , thinking it will work on yours.
There's a lot of work to be done, and you need an huge amount of luck to have your phone drivers available in that source.
This said, I will appreciate that people avoid off-topic and other phones talk in this thread.
This ROM and recovery will only work on wiko darkmoon and Micromax a200 (clone).
If your using this ROM as a base for another MT6582 phone, please be an gentlemen and give proper credits.

Great work, thanks.
Do you know by any chance if there is any option to add languages to this rom? Wiko doesn't include many languages. I can use locale2 from google play, but that only translates some of the functions.

Hi
Yes i know, when i made a MIUI rom for my old ZTE v970, i had an hard time trying to find the proper strings for your language.
Even on stock roms from big brands, its very rare to find support for that language.
Im trying to merge and revise some strings from various sources, maybe in an future version.

Great, that would be awsome.
As for rarity of my language, I find it quite well supported. Google Nexus has it, all Samsungs have it, so does HTC, Sony... I know Prestigio and Gsmart have it. CM also. It's not a big deal, but nevertheless - I wouldn't mind having it
Great ROM btw, very customizable.

Hi
Well good news and bad news
The good:
I managed to Build an UNOFFICIAL Lewa Rom for our device, currently fixing the lastest issues and adding multi-language support.
So since im currently working on this language strings, might as well use that work for this rom also.
Preview pics:

The bad:
From what i gather until now, only about 100 slovenian strings are compatible (this is less than 5% of overall translation files), will keep looking

@AndroidXDA for the latest SP Flash Tool.
Getting Started
USE AT OWN RISK! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OR BRICKS THAT MIGHT OCCUR UPON FLASHING. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!.
Before doing any flashing with your Acer Liquid Z500 you'll need to Root your device and flash a custom recovery. This is mandatory for flashing Custom Roms and making Backups.
Rooting may void your warranty, though this is localized and may not apply for your area/country. Here, in The Netherlands, rooting your android phone has been approved legal by the government, thus keeping your warranty if you need to return your device to the manufacturer.
This does NOT apply for flashing Custom Recovery's, therefore you need to flash back to the stock recovery.
Rooting:
First we want to Root our phone. We need KingoRoot for that. You can find it in my attachment in the post above. I haven't used the Android version, so i´ll only guide you through the windows version of KingoRoot.
People without a PC can try the provided KingoRoot_Android.zip, but i cannot guarantee it will work as i haven't tested it myself.
01) Go to your device settings and select 'Device Info'. Scroll down and tap the 'Build Number' 5x until you've unlocked 'Developer Options' displayed in a toast.
02) Go to 'Settings/Developer Options' and check 'USB Debugging Enabled' you are now ready to receive additional usb drivers and adb has full access to change files.
03) Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable and wait until it's finished installing drivers.
03) Download and install KingoRoot for windows .
04) Run KingoRoot, the program itself is pretty self explanatory. Just click 'ROOT' and wait until the program has finished flashing. It will reboot your device automaticly on success and superuser app called 'KingUser' will be installed with it. If you don't like it you can try SuperUser or SuperSU from the playstore. (Make sure you've granted them SU_Access with KingUser before you remove KingUser)
05) You are now ready to flash a Custom Recovery.
Custom Recovery:
Now we need a Custom Recovery. We can use SP FlashTool to do that or we can use MobileUncle MTK Tools. I'm going with the latter because it's more user friendly instead of going through SPFT & Scatter Files. I haven't tried 'Flashify' or 'Rashr Flash Tool' for flashing Recovery's on MTK devices.
01) Download CTR or CWM Custom Recovery's from the above post. Make sure they are located at the root of your SDCard. Move/Paste them from /Download folder if necessary.
02) Download MobileUncle from my attachment or download it from the Google PlayStore.
03) Grand SU_Access to MobileUncle and select 'Flash Firmware'.
04) Your downloaded Custom Recovery's will be shown (if moved propertly to root of SD) select it and click 'Flash'.
05) Reboot into your new Custom Recovery automaticly --when prompted to do so--, or do it manually by turning phone off/on with 'Vol+ (Up) & Power' and select 'Recovery' in acer menu (apply/select with Vol- (Down))
06) Now make a nand/stock backup of your current (Stock) ROM.
07) When leaving Custom Recovery for the 1st time, it might ask you 'Rebooting device might change Recovery to Stock, want to fix it?' reply with Yes.
Flashing Custom ROMs:
Flashing a custom rom is easy. And if you perform everything right, you won't have to worry that you'll brick your device. I've tested most of the ROMs by myself, i can assure you that it's a save deal, just follow the instructions carefully.
01) Download a Custom ROM of your preference (See Post #3) Click the HIDE button to see additional Info and Instructions (which are taken directly from their FB page).
02) Reboot into Recovery and make a backup of your current rom.
03) Do a full cache/data/system wipe and wipe dalvik.
04) Select 'Install zip from sdcard' and select your downloaded rom.
05) Wait until it's finished flashing.
06) Reboot your device and enjoy!
Unbrick / Flashing Stock Firmware:
I haven't had the pleasure yet to unbrick any MTK device (a good thing, right!?), so i'm a little scarse to give any info onto how to perform such tasks with SPFT as someone who has experienced it by hand.
Neither have i re-flashed to Stock Firmware, because on all the MTK devices i've used, any Custom ROM for those devices worked flawlessly.
Check out the Acer thread by @Shreps for detailed instructions on how to restore and unbrick your acer phone. This method works for various Acer models.

Yeah it's too bad there are no dedicated forums for Acer specific models. Even less popular devices have their own section.
There is not much Info on the Liquid Z500 regarding Custom Roms so i added all the roms i could find (from one source only though ) since XDA, HTCMania, MoDaCo, NeedRom, or any other site, do not feature them (google searches lack information).
So i took what i could find and cramped them into one Thread
Hello mate, thank you for this thread it looks awesome! I wanted to ask you where did you get SDs_Acer_AV0K0_Z500_1.003.00_EMEA_MTSs.zip firmware? My device came with it and when i was searching for it i couldn't find it! I was thinking maybe it's carrier branded firmware because MTS is the abbreviation of my carriers name... If i was mistaken do you by any chance know what does MTS part of it mean? Thanks in advance!

My device came with it and when i was searching for it i couldn't find it! I was thinking maybe it's carrier branded firmware because MTS is the abbreviation of my carriers name... If i was mistaken do you by any chance know what does MTS part of it mean? Thanks in advance!

I did not find those files myself, but I took them from @Shreps main thread. But my hunch is that they are provided by acers official website.
About MTS, I don't know..

Just a little question. All of these ROMs are bug-less? Can you post some screens of the Galaxy S5 ROM please?
Thank you in advance

LOL... bug-less... Less bugs you mean? Bug-less in the world of automation and mobile devices does not exist...
You know what I meant. I'm not stupid and I understand that. I'm not asking for the perfect OS, I'm just asking if they are good for a daily use.

Have you followed my steps? because if you did you wouldn't need to mess with scatter files and the flashing is pretty easy compared to some other brands.
I have no discrete awnser, so if anybody else could shine some light on this issue, thanks!!

Dual or Single SIM device? What full SPFT roms did you try to install?
To recover a device you should follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56877584&postcount=2
And use these SPFT Firmwares (depending on single or dual SIM):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61359937&postcount=4
Z500 Firmware - Acer_AV0K0_Z500_1.012.00_EMEA_GEN1.zip (Dual SIM)
Z500 Firmware - Acer_AV0K0_Z500_1.012.00_EMEA_GEN1s.7z (Single SIM)
Good luck!

Nika.

Nice that you and Nika would help me to work it out/

Is there a Way to download the ROMs except MEGA? It always fails. Everything can be downloaded properly, just the ROM-Download interrupts always.
EDIT: And I will not buy anything there or pay for something...

Thank you very much, I think it'll be the Samsung-Thing and hopefully it works with the Z500 Plus too. Acer even won't provide a Lollipop-ROM...
Anyway, I'm not using the 2nd SIM.
EDIT:The VionicL-Link seems to be broken.

hi, I was wondering if Xposed Framework can be used in Acer Z500? I really want to modify the notification bar, but the Cutom Rom in the first page says that it's probably impossible for Dual SIM version, so I want to modify it with Xposed.

Q1: Why there is no ambient display in ROM?
Q2: When you will add ambient display to ROM?
Q3: How can I add ambient display function to this ROM?
A: Ambient display causes screen wake lag. We don't want apps/functions that cause lags or FC in ROM. Thus we may not ever add that function to ROM. You can use AcDisplay app in playstore that acts as ambient display.
=====[34,35]=====
Q1: How can I have/remove small picture in notification bar with my image?
Q2: How can I add/remove user picture from top part of notification bar?
A: There are three choices:
1. Flash ROM in MODs update - select "MultiUser Icon" option in aroma installer
2. Open /system/build.prop, edit "fw.show_multiuserui=" value to "0" (to remove icon) or "1" (to enable icon)
3. Use flashable zip present as 8th MOD of Other MODs in MODs thread
=====[36,37]=====
Q1: How can I remap keys?
Q2: How can I have custom long press and double press behaviour for hardware/software keys?
A: It depends whether you have xposed or not:
1. If you have xposed, you can use "xposed additions" module. To know how to use this module, you can check my posts #1, #2 or just check its own thread.
2. If you don't have xposed, you can use button mapper app by @flar2 (playstore link and development thread).

F.A.Q. Post
Please read this before posting a report/request
Hello dear users. As you may know, for some time I have been answering repetative questions in thread. And it is frustrating. I want to make an end of it. I will try to make a new Q & A post, so that there would be a nice place to send those users who ask those questions (a Russian joke, probably @Andrew59 got it).
I will start slowly. One by one. And if you have anything to add to that Q & A, please pm me so that I can add that question (or both question and answer) to Q & A too. Please note that I am starting to write each questions one by one, thus it is not ordered right now; I will start ordering them part by part once the questions have reached 20-30 amount. Questions answered in this post:
[1] - When the new version will be out?
[2] - What devices does this ROM support?
[3] - Does this ROM support exynos N900?
[4] - I have flashed ROM but I don't have statusbar and there is black wallpaper in homescreen. What should I do?
[5] - I set a lockscreen wallpaper, but my lockscreen is all black. What should I do?
[6] - I set a live wallpaper, but it does not get applied to lockscreen and it is all black. What should I do?
[7] - I cannot have GPS fix. What can I do?
[8] - Is my baseband/bootloader old?
[9] - Which firmware should I download and flash? Should I choose ONLY the one for my own country of residence?
[10] - I have white thumbnails in my gallery. What should I do?
[11] - Where can I find any extra zips? It is too much crowded in this thread and I cannot find anything.
[12] - I flashed ROM but I lost root. What should I do?
[13] - What is best kernel for MagMa-NX ROM?
[14] - What are best aroma choices when flashing this ROM?
[15] - I have an FC in "XXXX" app. Please fix it.
[16] - I have a bug report about this ROM. How should I submit it?
[17] - I have a restart when I do "this".
[18] - I have bootloop right after I flash the ROM
[19] - I dont have mobile data when booting to ROM. It doesn't show GSM connection.
[20] - I cannot receive notifications from Whatsapp, Telegram, Inbox and etc apps. What should I do?
[21] - How to pass safetynet in this ROM?
[22] - I cant find Netflix, Super Mario RUN and other apps in Playstore.
[23] - How to make PlayStore Certified?
[24] - Where is ROM control on this ROM?
[25] - How can I add ROM control to this ROM?
[26] - Can I use a ROM control from "that" ROM so that it can be used in this ROM?
[27] - How can I enable network traffic on statusbar in this ROM?
[28] - What does bootloop, stuck in bootanimation, stuck in splashloop mean?
[29] - When using AOD I lose too much battery. Why is that?
[30] - Why does my CPU not go into deep sleep at night with AOD turned on?
[31] - Why there is no ambient display in ROM?

[36] - How can I remap keys?
[37] - How can I have custom long press and double press behaviour for hardware/software keys?
=====[1]=====
Q: When the new version will be out?
A: It will be out as soon as it is ready and tested by team members. Not a second early. And if there is already an official announcement by our dev, Patrick.H with specific time (lets say 18:00 GMT +0), then please don't post "where is download link" at 18:01 GMT +0. Sometimes it is possible that last minute events have halted the sharing of download link. Don't think that devs have forgotten to share the download link. Be sure that we are more anxious about this. We would not like to share the ROM if it is not as stable and bug free as we expect.
There are recent posts by forum moderators for users who seem to find this explanation not enough:

Q: What devices does this ROM support?
A: Please see OP. It is written already as:
>> Samsung Galaxy Note3 (Snapdragon variants only)
>> Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A (E330)
>> Samsung Galaxy S4 Active (E470)
>> Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9506)

Q: Does this ROM support exynos N900?
A: No
For N900/N9000Q version, go to this thread.
=====[4]=====
Q: I have flashed ROM but I don't have statusbar and there is black wallpaper in homescreen. What should I do?
A: You are simply out of storage in /system storage. You need to debloat the ROM further so that there is enough space for execution of SystemUI. Before we go any further:
1. Free space in /system is not free space in your internal storage or external storage. The /system storage in note 3 devices has 2.3GB space. And it can get filled.
2. Debloating removes apps in /system so that you have more free space available there. It is selective and you can choose which apps to remove.
Now, there are three main methods by which you can debloat the ROM:
A. Flash ROM -> Choose Mods Update rather than Full ROM install. Go till debloatable apps page by selecting same options or select "Don't install. For mods update only" option wherever possible. Once you reach to "Debloatable apps" page, try to select as less apps as possible (if possible don't select any debloatables at all).
B. Flash "System App Cleaner Script" by karkasss from here
C. !!For more advanced users!! Download, edit and flash debloater script by Oluwaponmile, from here. Edit the removed apps list for your like. Open updater-script inside zip at [b"]/META-INF/com/google/android[/b] folder and edit shown app list by adding or removing delete_recursive apps. See example as shown here

Q1: I set a lockscreen wallpaper, but my lockscreen is all black. What should I do?
Q2: I set a live wallpaper, but it does not get applied to lockscreen and it is all black. What should I do?
A: That is issue with infinity wallpaper. There is a workaround for that. Please set the infinite wallpaper to both homescreen and lockscreen again. Then set any wallpaper "as homescreen only". This way, the selected wallpaper will be applied to both homescreen and lockscreen.
Fixed in UX9 here
In UX9 you will have infinity wallpaper as optional in aroma installer

Q: I cannot have GPS fix. What can I do?
A: There are many reasons for that.
1. Be sure to choose correct NTP address in aroma installer while flashing ROM. If you are unsure, flash ROM -> choose "Mods Update" rather than "Full ROM install". Choose everything the same and choose "Don't install. Mods update only" option wherever possible. When coming to NTP address page, choose your location.
2. You are indoors where it is hard to get connection. Mostly getting near a window solves it.
3. You haven't enabled "Accurate Localization". Go to settings/connections/location/locating method and be sure it says GPS, WLAN and mobile networks.
If those don't help, try changing stock firmware. Download official lollipop firmware from sammobile.com or updato.com and flash it to device using ODIN software:
1. If the downloaded firmware is in zipped folder, extract zip file to find tar.md5 file.
2. Download and install ODIN software to PC (from here)
3. Power off your phone, remove battery. Wait 10 seconds. Reattach battery. Enter to download mode via vol.down+home+power button combo.
4. Attach your phone to PC via microusb cable. See that in ODIN it says "ID:com". This means your device has been attached and ackowledged by ODIN software.
5. Click on AP (or PDA in older ODIN versions), and add the downloaded .tar.md5 file
6. Don't change anything else in software window. Click START.
7. After finishing flashing, phone will auto-restart.
8. It may take up to 30-45 minutes (or even less) for phone to boot. In waiting time, try to keep your phone cool. Advised method is to push the device's screen towards a cold wall (cold concrete or cold ceramic for example, dont use metal, because it may heaten up by time and make things even worse)
9. After it boots, go to Settings/About device/Software info and check your baseband version has changed or not. You can also install phone info samsung app to check your bootloader too.If not updated, start the procedure again.
If you don't want to change whole firmware, you can try changing only baseband from here (in OP of that thread it explains how to do) for N9005 only. Changing modem is win or loose. Some basebands may have worse GPS than the one you currently have, and some may have better GPS than the one you currently have. There is NO other way to find out which will work better without testing each of them one by one.
Lastly, there is a flashable GPS fix in 6th MOD of this post in MODs thread. To revert changes done by this zip, you need to flash ROM in mods update and choose a NTP address in GPS menu.
=====[8]=====
Q: Is my baseband/bootloader old?
A: Check the Sammobile site or Updato site for latest firmware... or just check latest bootloader and baseband for only N9005 model from here.
How to understand. See this post by @svbarbosa
You need to check first 5 characters to check the device model (as an example.I will show for N9005), and last three characters for firmware version:
N9005XXSGBQA1 -> N9005×××××QA1
Lets focus on first 2 of last three characters; they are alphabetical letters which tell you the version code. Higher the characters in alphabet (B is higher than A; Z is higher than C and etc), newer the version. See examples below:
QD# is newer than QA#
PD# is newer than PB#
QA# is newer than PZ#
PA# is newer than OZ#
OA# is newer than NZ#
I hope you get the logic.
Last number, is like decimal point Like ".1" of "2.1":
QA3 is newer than QA1
PB2 is newer than PB1
See these comparisons below to make it clearer:
OK3 is older than OL1
OL1 is older than PB1
PB1 is older than PB2
PB2 is older than PD1
....
....
....
QB1 is older than QD1
As explained above; you have two ways to update bootloader and baseband (modem):
1. Flash new firmware via ODIN - re-root the phone - flash twrp 2.8.7.0 - clean flash ROM (these steps are very much recommended)
2. Flash new bootloader and modem files from ODIN
So, you can flash any of the newer firmwares or a firmware for specific country or download and flash only bootloader and modem from here (in OP of that thread it explains how to do) only for N9005.
=====[9]=====
Q: Which firmware should I download and flash? Should I choose ONLY the one for my own country of residence?
A: No. You can flash any other firmware as long as it is for your device model. Well, N9005 was never released in my country of residence. We only have Exynos variant. So none of the firmware are for my country. By your logic I should not flash any firmware. That is not correct. If you are flashing a custom ROM nonetheless, you should know that only bootloader and baseband are staying from stock ROM. Everything else is replaced by custom ROM. So, as long as firmware is new and GPS works, no problem.

Q:I have white thumbnails in my gallery. What should I do?
A: Please read this post. You can either wipe data of gallery as soon as it shows white thumbnails or you can flash note5 gallery at the end of that post. There is also note5 gallery with nougat icon apk by Leon_stalker and flashable zip of that apk by me.
The reason for white thumbnail and an alternative solution has been provided by oidy, here

Q: Where can I find any extra zips? It is too much crowded in this thread and I cannot find anything.
A: I tried to collect all MODs, apk and zips from thread in MODs Collection for MagMa-NX thread. Please visit that thread for more zips and MODs.
=====[12]=====
Q: I flashed ROM but I lost root. What should I do?
A: Firstly, please read this. There are several aspects you should keep in mind:
1. Did you root your device earlier? You have to have pre-rooted device (auto-root by Chainfire (CF-Auto-root) is one of those).
2. Did you flash kernel after flashing ROM? If you had, please flash ROM in mods update and choose a root method again.
=====[13]=====
Q: What is best kernel for MagMa-NX ROM?
A: There is no best kernel. Kernels are adapted to usage. You have to try each of them one by one to find which kernel is better for your usage. Available GPL compliant kernels are:
1. Phantom kernel from its own thread
2. Lss kernel from its own thread
3. Gugu0das kernel from his own Google Drive folder
=====[14]=====
Q: What are best aroma choices when flashing this ROM?
A: Aroma choices are dependent on your own like. If you don't like it, you can change them by flashing ROM in "Mods Update" mode and selecting changing your selected choices.

Q1: I have an FC in "XXXX" app. Please fix it.
Q2: I have a bug report about this ROM. How should I submit it?
A: Thanks for your report. Firstly, if it is a global FC/bug, or known issue, please check OP for "Not Working" list. If it is not there, then you need to do following steps, so that we can find out what has gone wrong on your setup that you are experiencing an FC/bug.
This consists of three parts:
Part A. App not responding/other issues
1. Install MatLog app from playstore.
2. Start logging by openning app (it automatically starts, if not, press "play" button on top)
3. Now try replicate the event (do the steps that lead to FC)
4. Return back to matlog app.
5. Press "pause" button on top. Please dont wait too much, because it records about 20-100 lines per second. If it takes 1 minute, it may file up to 5000 lines, which will be hard for us to read and diagnose)
6. Go to 3dot menu of app, select "file", then select "save". It may ask permission to write, grant it. It will save with date and time, click ok.
7. The logs will be saved in Internal/matlog/saved logs folder. Please upload it to any storage site (dropbox, google drive and etc) via share the download link or just upload into your post in XDA. If you are junior XDA user, you may not share download links or attach logs to your post. Just copy the download link from online storage site without "http://" at beginning.
Part B. Questions for CORRECT report!
Answer these questions so that we can troubleshoot your problem:
1. Device Model (e.g. N900S)
2. Bootloader and Baseband (whole code or last 3 characters: N9005XXSGBQA1 or QA1)
3. Your recovery version (e.g. TWRP 2.8.7.0, philz 6.48.4,...)
4. Wipes done in recovery before flashing.
5. Your choices in aroma installer:
a. Device model chosen
b. Kernel choice (or preinstalled)
c. CSC choice
d. Debloatable apps
e. SystemUI
f. UDS
g. White/Green Battery
h. Launcher Choice
i. Extra options (4G, dual stereo and etc)
j. Camera choice
k. Sound MOD
l. NTP address
m. Root option
n. Busybox option
o. Xposed option
p. Wipe in aroma4. Any other zips flashed?
5. Any other modifications done?
Part C. A specific case for FC:
a) If FC is from a system app (nearly all preinstalled apps in ROM):
1) Go to /data/system/dropbox/ folder
2) Find a txt file with "system" and "crash" keywords on the file name
3) If there are more than one apps with such keywords, open them and read inside. At the first line of the txt file you will find process name. Try to find one which has the process name with the app that FC
4) Share that txt file either as attachment in post or by sharing the download link after uploading it to an online storage. If you are junior XDA user, you may not share download links or attach logs to your post. Just copy the download link from online storage site without "http://" at beginning.b) If FC is from a data app (all 3rd party apps and some preinstalled ones):
1) Go to /data/system/dropbox/ folder
2) Find a txt file with "data_app" and "crash" keywords on the file name
3) If there are more than one apps with such keywords, open them and read inside. At the first line of the txt file you will find process name. Try to find one which has the process name with the app that FC
4) Please upload it to any storage site (dropbox, google drive and etc) via share the download link or just upload into your post as attachment. If you are junior XDA user, you may not share download links or attach logs to your post. Just copy the download link from online storage site without "http://" at beginning.

Q: I have a restart when I do "this".
A: Thanks for your report. Firstly, if it is a global issue, please check OP for "Not Working" list. If it is not there, then you need to do following steps, so that we can find out what has gone wrong on your setup that you are experiencing an FC:
First way:
1. Install SysLog app from playstore.
2. Now try replicate the event (do the steps that lead to reboot)
3. After reboot, directly open Syslog app.
4. Click on Take Log.
5. It will save logs in internal/syslog folder.
6. Please upload it to any storage site (dropbox, google drive and etc) via share the download link or just upload into your post as attachment. If you are junior XDA user, you may not share download links or attach logs to your post. Just copy the download link from online storage site without "http://" at beginning.
Second way:
1. Recreate reboot
2. After reboot, go to /proc/, and copy "last_kmsg" to internal memory
3. Then go to /data/log/, and copy prev_dump.log to internal memory
4. Put both files into a zipped folder and upload it to any storage site (dropbox, google drive and etc) via share the download link or just upload into your post as attachment. If you are junior XDA user, you may not share download links or attach logs to your post. Just copy the download link from online storage site without "http://" at beginning.
When sharing the log, do not forget to add this information about your device/setup too, as asked on F.A.Q. 16 partB.

Q: I have bootloop right after I flash the ROM
A: There are two possible reasons for that:
1. You are using JIO SIM. JIO SIM is not supported by this ROM. You either need to change your SIM or flash other ROM. Sorry.
2. In first boot, when asked to "Consent for Diagnostic Report", you forgot to uncheck it. As written in OP, you have to "uncheck" the Consent for Diagnostic Report. To solve it:
1. Power off phone
2. Remove sim card
3. Boot to ROM.
4. Go to settings/general management
5. Disable "Report Diagnostic Info"
6. Power off Device.
7. Insert sim card.
8. Boot up phone and continue using it

Q1: Where is ROM control on this ROM?
Q2: How can I add ROM control to this ROM?
Q3: Can I use a ROM control from "that" ROM so that it can be used in this ROM?
A: This ROM contains only NX Control app. It contains tweaks for statusbar (long/short network traffic style, seconds on statusbar clock and blurred notification panel background) and tweaks for AOD screen (touch enable/disable, auto-brightness enable/disable, brightness value and etc).
This ROM provides stock feel of Samsung ROM. We try to evade ROM control or similar tweak/MOD apps.
No. You cannot use ROM control from other ROMs. The ROM control should be built with the ROM, not added afterwards.
=====[27]=====
Q: How can I enable network traffic on statusbar in this ROM?[/COLOR]
A: Go to Settings/Connections/Data Usage and enable "Real-time Network Speed". You can tweak the length of network traffic on statusbar from NX control app, explained above.

Q: What does bootloop, stuck in bootanimation, stuck in splashscreen mean?
A: Bootanimation is not a continuous animation. It has starting animation and cycling animation. Starting one is when "samsung" word pops up. Cycling animation is when samsung llights up and lights down. Bootloop, from word loop, means it starts from "writing samsung" part, then goes to cycling animation and then goes back to writing samsung again amd gets.looping over and over. Stuck at bootanimation means it continuously light up and lights down "samsung" word, but does not loop with "writing samsung text" again, just the cycling animation gets too long. Splashloop, again from word loop, means it continuously starts splash screen several times (with "samsung galaxy note 3" text) without entering bootanimation. Stuck in splashscreen means that screen stays in splash screen (with "samsung galaxy note 3" text).
All of these have different diagnosis and solutions. So we need to make sure you give us correct info for us to diagnose and solve your issue

Q1: When using AOD I lose too much battery. Why is that?
Q2: Why does my CPU not go into deep sleep at night with AOD turned on?
A: Note 3 CPU cannot go into deep sleep with AOD due to hardware limitations. If you want to evade the battery loss, you should use AOD for short durations or when charging.
