Hey guys about 3 months ago, I completely reset my phone. Factory reset and wiped everything out. 3 months later, the phone is laggy. Sometimes youtube videos don't even run smoothly. Thats how slow it is. Of course I've cleared cache many times to no help. Battery now and phone also overheats.
Short of doing another factory reset, is there a way to fix this. I don't have the cash currently to buy a newer phone. Sadly. I've grown attached to the Note series especially this phone's functionality. New phone would probably be a Note 8 as I suspect a Note 5 would run into the same issues with the older ROM
Any suggestions?

I found rooting and getting rid of the garbage programming to be very helpful.

I actually fixed it by doing a factory reset on the 6.1.1 stock rom. I had upgraded to 6.1.1 from lolipop but didn't do a factory reset

Hey guys,
Every since I installed the update my tablet has apps crashing on it and it's just unresponsive all the time. Also things seem to lag more. Everything except games..Even the settings menu crashes.
Anyone else encounter this after the new update? .
Thanks,
Ovi
Back up your apps and do a factory reset?
4.2.1 has been quite slow on my tf700, UI is a lot less responsive, but I have had zero crash (apart from the stock browser, which I have accepted as a fact of life by now). Nevertheless, I have no doubt that a factory reset will solve everything, it is just that I am too lazy to back up and all. I have copied quite a lot of stuff on my tablet, so it will take a few hours to restore everything.
Suppose so but it always good to have a backup.
Use the ASUS MyBackUp? Worked well for me and was fairly quick. Just try to avoid restoring system app data
Makes sense. I just bought a 32 Gb micro SD card to back up stuff. Hopefully the factory reset helps but it's really unbelievable how laggy it is. Almost unusable at times.
I will only restore game data and dropbox since they are so big.
I will post back with the result.

I just wanted to say that I was having the same problem. I updated a few weeks ago and ever since, I've been putting up with a slow piece of crap with terrible battery life. I finally decided to bite the bullet and reset yesterday and ever since, the tablet has been faster than ever. I highly recommend doing the reset.
Backup Guide?
Is there a guide on how to back up and restore? I want to keep most of my settings and stuff. Ideally, I want to back up everything, do the factory reset, transfer files back and have it be just the same.

I've seen questions about this with no definitive answers. So.......
I'm having issues with my camera and have searched around but nothing has worked. I've had this phone since it came out and haven't ever had this problem until a few weeks ago. I have removed battery, cleared camera cash and data and a few other things with no luck. I'm still on 4.4.4, build AOC2 and haven't even tried to root or anything. The camera failing to open started a few weeks ago but now is getting more irritating due to the often recurrence.
I would like to know why my camera is failing all the time now. It will work for a while after a reset or sometimes it will work once then fail upon opening the app.
Any ideas?? I haven't done a factory reset and do not plan to. I do not want to upgrade to the newest version lollipop or whatever it is now.
Yesterday i did the buy one get one free through verizon,2 s7. Really enjoyed the speed and feel of the phone. Did the update and still liked it. Today im experiencing a lot of freezes and very poor calls and data lag. Im wondering if anyone has issues with their pbones too.
disable all the crap software, uninstall them if possible. Clear data cache. Reboot.
It's not uncommon for a big OTA to cause problems. Try booting into recovery and clearing cache, then rebooting the phone. If that doesn't work, I've seen plenty of cases where people had to do a factory reset after a big OTA.
Hi All,
I am wondering if you can help me troubleshoot my Samsung Galaxy S7. I am open to any suggestion, even installing non-stock firmware or any other ideas you may have.
I bought the phone (on contract) around 5 months ago, For nearly 3 months now the phone has been freezing 5 - 6 times a day, restarting 2 or 3 times a day. It works for a little while, maybe a week after a factory reset. So my brain is telling me its a software issue as a hardware issue would surely be there from the first minute it reinstalls?
There is nothing obvious as to when it freezes, mostly when loading an app, So I imagine some corrupt kernel call. I would have thought a factory reset would have fixed this though but I guess its just reinstalling the same software and if this is corrupt.
Anyway, my provider in the UK or Samsung are not providing me with any suitable options other than we will "repair" it but will not RMA it and you will be without a phone for 2 months or so. well, this is just not good enough to me as when you pay £600 for a device (which even though I havnt paid as of yet, I am contracted to pay) You dont expect it to break after 2 months. Legally all they have to do is offer a "repair". I just know this is going to be more pain than its worth.
If anyone can help me at all with any possible solution, third party firmware to try and what steps I would need. I would appreciate any help.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S7 32GB
Model: SM-G930F
Android: 6.0.1
Kernel: 3.18.14-9113173
I don't know buddy, I would wipe the phone clean, install the newest nougat beta and maybe install only a bunch of apps a day and see when you start having problems, maybe one of them is the cause. But that honestly sounds like a hardware issue. I hope this somewhat helps. Good luck
Same problem here. Its a faulty battery and/or power circuity. There is no software fix for that. Thats why it hangs or reboots while opening apps - that needs more amps to be drawn from the battery. Like loading thumbnails in gallery and so on.

Thanks for both replies.
I have tried to reset, still happening, cant install nougat as it freezes as soon as odin recognises it.
I guess I have no choice but to send it to them, I just know I will have problems now for months.
So I've got a Note 20 ultra that I freaking love. I got the Pixel 6 pro as well and between the two of them I finally have settled my urge for vanilla, Android and everything. The Note 20 stood for. The problem, randomly. I was just out in the yard working. I went to check my notifications in my screen was black. Assuming the digitizer went because the device is still connected to some Bluetooth things.
I thought I saw $450 for a replacement, doesn't seem worth it considering I already have the pixel, what are my real options? What would you guys do? I freaking love the phone and have a million accessories for it.
Try a hard reboot.
You genius ! I swear I tried it and it didn't work ! It's back ! I love you !

Yay! It's a cheap trick, but great when it works.
If it continues to happen though it indicates a underlying firmware or hardware issue.
Also clear system cache, it's on the boot menu.

I pretty regularly do full factory resets. Something that I got used to when I was doing the rooting thing when I was younger and kind of felt performance gains doing it so kind of stick to it

No need to do factory resets unless there's malware you can't delete or a 3rd app screws hidden user settings, or a major firmware upgrade.
This N10+ in my hand OS load will be 2 yo this June and is still stable and snappy fast with minimal maintenance. Still running on Pie.
I clear the system every month or so, and clean with SD Maid every month or so. Repair any damages made by misadventure or updates. That's it; stock Android's can be a very robust and stable platform.
