Does the U11 support Treble with the 8.0 update? - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hey there!
Surprisingly, I couldn't find any information on this. I know only devices launching with Android 8 are required to support Treble, but there was the rumor that some manufacturers were working on bringing Treble on Android 7 devices with the update to Android 8.
So what about the U11? Does anybody have a definite answer?
Thanks!

As far as I have seen, Treble on Nougat devices = full wipe of the entire phone to create a new partition, so not going to happen. Oreo on the U11 definitely does not have it enabled.

Judging by the OTA package of U11, it does not have treble.

What is Treble?

It's an architecture of ROM separating Android from device manufacturer's drivers and add-ons so it's easier to bring Android updates to phones that have less-than-stellar support from the manufacturer (like we do).

So you can get security patches (and other upstream Android developments) easier → more often and have your phone secure and up-to-date.

Yeah in theory, but it isn't exactly getting 8.1 and patches to the U11 Play and U11+ faster is it? We still are still at HTCs mercy.

Well yes, but it would be less bother for them, so possibly more updates? It's all my theory though, possibly even if implemented OEMs will just be like "Less costs to keep current update schedule. Cool!"

It's already supported, in the parallel world. So unluckily, we're on the wrong one.

sorry then the support to project treble on U11 will no longer be done as previously announced? thank you

ps. could not post url links yet srry
@ezrexl you are really funny, it's device source not a rom.
There's nothing changed for oreo on the source, we automatically created 8.0 branches for all our repos independent of Oreo support for the devices.

Im sorry, I assumed it was a source ready to be compiled as a rom because Im really new to learning with these things, but I hope someone would make an oreo rom for galaxy tab 2 considering the fact that nougat was being patched right now.

It can't compile, it has nothing changed to work on O and you will need a lot to change (and don't forget a massive kernel update you'll also need).
Have fun working on it, I am not and I won't in future

I still love marshmallow rom it's enough for our tab 2 (stable rom ever)
anybody??

Project treble ??

Please can someone who already got the U11+ check, if there is Project Treble activated on the U11+? because it is not there on the normal u11
HowTo: https://www.xda-developers.com/proje...-android-oreo/
I checked a few days ago and it does have treble. The response comes back as 'true' when the treble command is typed.
All phones that ship with Android 8 out of the box are required to have treble, only phones that are upgraded to 8 wont have it (assuming they are on 8)

phones which are just updated to android 8 have to be re-partitioned. and doing this via OTA can easily brick the device, so OEMs won't do that, unless they had a partition ready, which is not used and can be partitioned correctly.
With "Treble Check" you can check if your Device support project treble.
Why for your screenshot it is Partition A/B? As for me it is A partition only and in phh thread HTC u11 plus is A partition.

Given the reasons Venom roms have been discontinued, I don't see a Treble project on a non treble device being something they would enjoy. Honestly they would probably much prefer sticking their peckers in a blender.

This hack/mod requires modifying and resizing the partition scheme of the phone - it was easy on the mi5 if I remember correctly because there was a partition that went unused if you weren't on MIUI. I think a while ago I also saw that someone was going to publish a guide on how to resize OPO partitions.
TL;DR: Not an easy task - yet probably possible with the devs we've got around here.

For bacon, it isn't necessary to repartition, we can still repurpose a partition for vendor. Let's just say that it's doable, but too much work for now. Even if we get treble it isn't very practical, given we have a 32 bit device.

Oh, there definitely will be.
any good news?
Android 9 works well via LineageOS. There still is no Android 10 support but from what I have seen, LineageOS on Android 10 is very buggy. As long as LenageOS continues to support OnePlus 1, I will be happy. I guess it would be much easier if we had Treble though as new versions of Android should just "work".

Oreo security patches?

It looks like Huawei/Honor continues the development of security patches for EMUI 5 - b410 is approved by IMEI and contains August patches, while b412 contains September patches and will probably be approved soon. However, nothing new on the EMUI 8 side of things.
I don't remember how things were with the EMUI 4->5 transition, but the fact that they continue to focus on providing updates only for the old emui doesn't fill me with confidence.
Was 8.0.0.521 an one-off? I hope not.
I think Oreo is an one-off. Infact i returned back to b407
It's really disappointing, because the B521 firnware has some annoying bugs.
To me, the fact that Huawei controls both processor (Kirin) and OS (EMUI), should mean that they would be of the likes of Apple and iOS, or the likes of Google and Pixels: each version of EMUI should be able to be installed on all compatible phones, on launch day. I can't believe they cannot do that, unless their developers' skills are so bad.
This is a lost opportunity, in favour clearly of selling more phones. They envision being better than Apple, without taking the first page of their book: fewer phones, better support.
If that's the case in the end, "so long and thanks for all the fish".

"LOS - Stability, basic, like AOSP, but with a tad bit more customizability
OmniROM - Both hitting the sweet spot between RR and LOS. NFC.
RR - Really good battery life, customization to the max"
I am using RR coz of the customizations. AFAIK all the roms are usable as daily driver. There might be minor bugs here and there but nothing too big. NFC is only available on Omni. No VoLTE support on any rom. Thats all i can think of right now. Their web has detailed info.

It just doesn't make sense to have it. Use android emulator for testing an app if that's the case.
If there are zer0 users with Oreo with OP6 what's the point of testing?
