So my head unit ( Joying JY-UL135 ) stopped turning on. I went through various troubleshooting steps and the conclusion I and Joying support came to was that the coreboard has failed. They will send me a replacement one for a reasonable cost but I have to send the old one back direct to China which would bring the cost up to "ehhh" territory. And that assumes the package will get there and the deposit will be returned.
I have the original RK1388 1GB setup which was incredibly slow and disappointing. I asked Joying if it was possible to get a PX5 replacement because of how dissatisfied I've been with the unit. Joying told me that my unit was not compatible with the PX5 boards. I guess I was confused about the coreboard stuff, because I thought that RK1388 1GB board was the "PX3" that gets referred to here on the forums.
My questions are as follows:
* Is that correct that I cannot install an upgraded (more RAM specifically) board in the JY-UL135 unit? The PX5 boards are not compatible?
* Is there a place I can order coreboards domestically (US) to compare the price?
* Is there anything I can check/do with the coreboard to try and get it working again? I am very comfortable soldering, using a multimeter, etc. I've thought about using a heatgun to try and get the solder to reseat.
edit:
Update:
I had it confirmed on another forum that the PX5 RK1388 replacement boards are compatible with this specific head unit. It is the Joying-specific PX5 boards that are not compatible since they do not sell the appropriate type, and that is what Joying support meant by it wouldn't work.

I'm hoping to upgrade my RoadNavi unit with one of the newer models PX5/Intel with 2GB or RAM and am wondering if I should take a chance on this unit?
Hi MTCD Fellows,
is there anybody who upgraded his MTCD from PX3 to PX5 who wants to sell met the old PX3 board?
mine is broken, there is no sound coming out of it anymore.
why not just buy a PX5 to replace it? They're much better! I have one, but I'm in New Zealand..
i dont want to pay any customs taxes. everytime i order from china i have to pay 25%+
my device is broken because the DAC is defective. i ordered a new one already from desaita., beacuse i hat bluetooth and wifi issues prior to the defective board.
i want to resurrect the old erisin one and sell it on ebay. it does not matter on ebay if it is px5 or px3 IMHO

Both Bluetooth and and WiFi are Not on the PX3 board! They are on the main MCU board. Those sound issues might pretty much be from the MCU board also. Have you tried with another PX board to check if things actually work with it?
Ive got one ill sell you, just took it out of my system. Works well.
I have one too.. worked when I removed it
I have a JY Head unit that the GPS slot has failed. The 2nd slot (SD) is OK. I've done a visual and confirmed the connections. It's really not a huge deal but since I'm going to be inside the unit soon doing a PX3 to PX5 upgrade I thought I would replace the board if available and not too expensive.
Any sources where to get parts? Anyone have an otherwise dead unit good for parts?

If not already contact your reseller or joying directly.
Good afternoon,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me please if the core board from this unit:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000132959961.html
would work and boot inside one of these:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-Android-7-1-Car-Stereo-Radio-DVD-Player-GPS-DAB-OBD-Head-Unit-for-Seat-Ibiza/153679322081?fits=Model%3AIbiza&hash=item23c8005be1:g:WoIAAOSwvchdntjk
i have the 1gb version of the one listed on ebay and am possibly able to buy the aliexpress one secondhand cheaper than buying a standalone coreboard.
Kind Regards
Les Mack
Yes, the PX3 board can be exchanged for a PX5 or even PX6 board
I bricked my MTCE radio while mcu updating and now it doesn't work, buttons don't light up. Also i can't repair it by installing new MCU by st-link v2.
If It helps when i buy a new px5 or px6 coreboard? MCU is on this coreboard?
Cut losses and buy a superior FYT UIS7862 unit. See FYT forums.
Alternatively, you could send the unit to me and I can try recovery - no charge, only return freight.
Where to buy it? I search Google and nothing. It fits in citroen DS3?
Where are you from? Maybe it is a good option to send it to you.

Cheaper than buying a SOM and mainboard, but understand if you don't.
