Just FYI, your bootloader is not unlocked. The only way to unlock the bootloader is loading into fastboot and issuing the "oem unlock" command. But you have to hit the volume up button to confirm and complete the unlock, and the volume buttons are disabled in fastboot on this device(like most other RCA tablets), therefore we can not unlock. There was a tool to modify bootloader to bypass the confirmation, but it was for another RCA tablet and it didn't work on the lk.bin file I have for this device. Also, as of yet, I can't get spft to read or write anything to this tablet, so even if I could figure out how to edit the file, I have no way to write it to the device. The saddest part is, this tablet isn't exactly fort knox. Someone with actual know-how/dev experience could have this thing unlocked and rooted in like 5 minutes.

[Q] How to root a Hyundai SP 5S - all methods found so far fail

Hi all,
I won this phone in the arcade of a hotel in Spain. It's a Hyundai SP 5S. Seems like a legitimate Hyundai product from Hyundai Mobile in Spain.
Its specs are:
Android 4.4.2
MTK 6572M, dual core at 1GHz
5" screen at 480 x 854 (this sucks, main reason I want to root is to upgrade the resolution)
512MB RAM, 4GB flash
It's actually quite a good phone (especially since it was almost free) but it seems like I may be unable to root this. I've plenty of experience of rooting and installing many custom ROM's on my previous phones.
I've tried:
Latest Framaroot
Vroot/iRoot
Many other one click apps
I've dumped the ROM with SP Flash Tool and attempted to make CWM using the latest MediaTek Droid Tools however it gives the missing kernelGZ and no split boot image errors.
'fastboot oem unlock' only responds with "..." in fact all fastboot oem commands respond with the "..." however fastboot reboot works.
I was going to try the Easy Magic TWRP Installer but it says it doesn't work with 6Mb recovery sizes, which this device has. (checked in Block Info)
So I'm at a loss at what to do to get root on this phone.
Any help would be much appreciated!

[Q] Unable to Root/Recovery on Xperia Z3 Lollipop

Hi All,
Brand new member here thanking you all in advance for any help.
I have the same storage problems that I've seen from many users so I'm trying to save/install apps into my 128gb sd card but I read that it cannot be done without rooting. I have spent the past 48 hours going through a bunch on info I found on XDA forums as well as forums and boards in other places and what I gathered so far is.
1. Rooting is required
2. Rooting cannot be achieved without first installing a custom recovery
3. Custom recovery cannot be achieved without first unlocking the bootloader
After 48 hours of going through everything I could find all I have to show for it is that I managed to unlock the bootloader and wipe my phone clean, but nothing else.
I already have all the ADB files and Fastboot files (downloaded from 2 different sources), I also downloaded the Android SDK, SuperSU file, Giefroot, the Xperia drivers for the computer, and a file called "bootZ3monxtest01.img" but when I try to flash this boot file I get the error "FAILED <remote: image is not a boot image>"
I've seen the various threads on how to root without unlocking the bootloader and also on several programs designed to root with just one click but all of them require me to downgrade the fw which I dont feel confident doing, so I was trying to follow the instructions on this page (techjeep.com/2015/04/19/how-to-root-xperia-z3-running-android-5-0-2-lollipop-23-1-a-0-726/) which seems to allow me to do everything using my current phone setup but I'm stuck because I dont have recovery and the link they provide on this page does not work.
Phone specs as follows:
Sony Xperia Z3
Model: D6653
Android: 5.0.2
Kernel: 3.4.0-perf-g72984dd [email protected] #1
Build: 23.1.A.0.726
USB Debugging: On
Allow mock locations: On
Verify apps over USB: Off
Unknown sources: On
Bootloader: Unlocked
I'd really appreciate the help you guys can give me to sort this out and get the phone up and running again.
Thank you!

We need to get developers onto the ZMax 2 root because we all know how long the original ZMax root took. We have already figured out that all one click roots do not work with this phone, so like how the original team did, I believe we need to find a way to temp root put a custom recovery on and flash SU. Now I'm not a developer but we need to start somewhere.

Yes yes yes. We need root access on this device

Someone help us please. This device it's great for the price. It has many users. Devs needed bad! I
It's a kick a$$ little phone. It has and the biggest bang for the buck all day long: It has a 720 X 1080 HD5.5" screen, 2GB of RAM, 3000 mah "removable" battery, SD 410 (as opposed 200, 210 or 400 in that price range) and expandable micro SD for $79? Works as good on T-Mobile if you unlock it as any other T-Mobile phone would, and with LTE band 12. And the unlock is free too, just cant beat it.
Aside from not having a Super AMOLED quad HD screen and the camera not being the highest quality, it's as good as my Note 4 (for my usage). I would think there'd be tons of these floating around for some dev's to try and get root, but maybe it's just that tough a nut to crack...
Price is perfect to test now!

There is a root method for LG devices that involves getting the phone into download mode and then using a script to root it from there. Based on my admittedly limited experience with this phone, I think a similar approach should work.
That process is detailed on this thread, and I was able to duplicate it on my ZMax 2 almost all the way.
Step one involved pushing some files via ADB - Check!
Step two was to get into download mode. - Check! (vol + & vol - and then insert USB cable)
Step three was to figure out the port being used. Mine was COM 3 - Check!
Step four was to use the "Send_Command.exe" file to initiate the process. Check!
I got as far as getting the "#" prompt but then... Well, the script is written for LG devices with their specific partitions and directory structures. My guess/hope is that modifying this process slightly by changing the *.sh file would be enough, but I'll leave that to greater minds than mine.
Ok..for the record..an older version of kingo root DOES successfully give you root...the problem is having root does NOT give you write access to /system. The emmc is still write protected. The method used to unlock many other ZTE models ( http://androidforums.com/threads/zte-write-protection-for-zmax-and-other-zte-phones.1040331/ ) does NOT work on the Z958 which is the "Zmax2" for AT&T (LOL) <-- I'm not laughing..that's the model. The z955a which is the "Zmax2 unlocked version" DOES work with the method found. Lucky us I guess..then again you can't get the unlocked zmax2 for $60 at bestbuy which seems to happen fairly regularly for the z958. It's also currently fairly easy to get the z958 unlocked.
ZTE's response when contacted regarding the locked bootloader is:
Dear Valued ZTE Customer
Thanks for contacting ZTE.
We are sorry to inform you that we do not support unlocking the bootloader and rooting the device.
We apologize for the inconvenience
Should there be further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best Regards!

Yeah thanks bunches ZTE. That email convinced me not to look at the Pro or the Axon 7 until they HAVE a working root/twrp. The reason I want the bootloader unlocked is I want to be able to install twrp and backup my phone to prevent bricking issues.
We really need a zmax2 forum so this information can be shared better.
Once you have it rooted with kingo root it will stay rooted till you reboot...take the opportunity to give yourself a semi permanent adb root shell [ http://androidforums.com/threads/semi-permanant-root-shell.1039076/ ] (not the same as gaining root but will allow you to do things like "wm density #" to see what the current dpi density is (both real dpi and "override" dpi)....I've found "wm density 260" works quite well. The default is 320.
I've also fought with ZTE on phone and through I'm session and they kept telling me same thing they do not assist in unlocking bootloader or root because it voids warranty once they told me that and the axon 7 was said to have unlockable bootloader I took the chance to use that as my advantage on the warranty issue and told me that it would not be bout warranty void anymore and they kept trying to beat round the bush and just kept saying we can not assist you on unlocking bootloader or gaining root do to warranty void
ive temp rooted with kingo pc and gained semi permanent adb root shell but still no full root but my question is has anyone experienced KINGroot causing a block on boot with triangle and ! symbol in the triangle to go to a black screen with led ring blinking white and having to factory reset the whole phone
One of the problems is that there are 2 zte zmax 2 variants
Z955a root
Didn't find anythong for the ATT Z958 variant tho

Zmax 2 unlocked rooting questions
Hello everybody, I have the unlocked variant of the zmax 2 , how easy is it to root this phone, is it possible? I only need temporary root anyway for a one time use, if full root is possible then touché, and also do I need a computer to do this, mines in need of a new SSD to run the OS so until I get that I have no computer access
Not sure where to put this
So, let me say that I have fully rooted the phone. I was able to figure out the partitions to the phone and extract all of them, including the boot.img and recovery.img. The bootloader is still locked as far as I know. Even though ZTE won't release the unlock code for the phone, is it possible to unlock it anyways? If so, then how. I really would like to participate in this endeavor for the community. Any feedback or help would be appreciated. I have spent almost two weeks on this phone, not bad for the money, but would love to design a custom rom for it. Thanks.
Enable USB debugging
Get adb (most know how)
Type in this command through adb:
adb reboot disemmcwp
Now use the PC version of Kingo Root
After that there are methods out there for replacing kinguser with supersu (if you choose to do this be careful it may brick your phone) otherwise keep kinguser.
Here is the current update: Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
Why not use the official released today. Won t let me post the link but it is on ATT today.
I have bought the AT&T version and unlocked it now and using with a different sim, could anyone let me know how to get the Marshmallow update.
I used Debloater to remove the bloatware.
I also have the z958 (ATT Go Phone ZMax 2) that I've unlocked and using with T-Mobile.
While Root and customer ROM are unlikely, I hope we can update to recently released Marshmallow update from ATT.
From what I gathered, you can only update to Marshmallow with active ATT service through phone.
Is it possible for someone to extract the update and upload it so others can update it via SD card or something?
Hopefully phone would remain unlocked.
It should be possible. I did this for an update to the original Zmax on T Mobile.

Samsung Galaxy J3 Orbit (SM-S367VL) Looking for advice on how to root.

I've looked for quite a while on anything that could help me root the phone, and have had no success with anything. I'm worrying at this point that the bootloader is just locked and have to ask, is there anything else I can do to root this phone? Willing to try pretty much anything, even at risk of bricking it.

I'm interested in this too but in all likelihood nobody with the knowledge is even working on it because this is a niche phone.
Locked bootloader..
Well i have this fone now...i bought it because it was a good deal so it seemed..Less than 100$ for fone and service activation plan...I have rooted just about every Samsung i have ever owned...So heres what i have come up with..There is no OEM option in Developer options...On any other samsung fone i always go right into developer options and disable OEM by turning it off...Then i either have used Kingroot apk or Kingoroot apk in the past and they have worked...sometimes u have to find the perfect version to match your android software specifically...Now i have always had huge success with Odin and flashing TWRP via Laptop or Computer via USB connection, but thats something each individual should personally take the time and educate theirselves on just in case... Sorry to say that the Samsung J3 Orbit with Total Wireless and Oreo 8.0 needs a serious look at...

Your phone is a 2018 model of the j3. When xda finally makes a J3 (2018) thread i will request for this thread to be moved. Any root methods shown in J3 (2017) are likely not to work anymore since samsung patched the methods used. The only way to root phones now is by buying the U variants of samsung's phones which are only available from samsung's website under unlocked phones. Unlocked phones from samsung have an unlocked bootloader by default.

U models are normally U.S. models which are locked tight. I run a s8 as my everyday driver which is rooted. The s9 s10 and most other us snapdragon and in this case exynos all are locked tight. And they cannot be rooted as of right now. The sampwn and other samfail do not work anymore. The U model you are referring to is the U.S. sim unlocked model not bootloader. With the S series F is the European bootloader unlocked model I don't know the European letter for J series.
Until some one finds a way to push a rooted system img on stock permissive combination kernel root will not come just like s9 and s10 us models
If these where us snapdragon we could push a rooted system combination file with safestrap just like we do on the newer bootloader on s8 using EDL and Qualcomm 9008
Just had an idea, another thread on this forum a guy says he made a modified version of Odin that can flash mix matched models. So just flash a model version of the j3 orbit that can be rooted or at least oem unlock capable to be able to flash twrp and then be able to root through twrp.
If flashing a j3 with a model number different than sm-367vl would brick it, just extract the .img partitions like boot.img or whatever the partition may be with ubuntu to restore one by one until you find which one makes the phone boot.
I don't know much about phones when it comes to this depth of modification. But I had a lg zone 3 that used this method to turn an unrootable model number version into a different model number that was rootable. Before I flashed the .img partitions of the stock software the screen had lines all over it, so using screen mirroring I was able to root the different model number software then download partition backup and restore app them restore the partitions that were for the original model number.
So basically it took both model numbers and combined some partitions of each to make it work properly.
In my head I can totally see this working. Just depends on how close to the same hardware each model number of the galaxy j3 has i guess.
I wish I would have noticed/seen this a bit sooner.. any progress or luck? I have the j337u ...
I know chimera tool is able to remove Knox kglock oemlock rmm mdm , of which mine shows kglock on, oemlock: on, frplock off. Trying to flash anything gives the error insufficient payment somethin. So there's got to be a way around it. ALSO I found interesting, the FCC id has J337t instead of U ...wonder why that is ...
(Anyone know where I can get stock j260AZ/AIO -notpaid- (cricket) firmware,I've literally checked every where )
We need someone to take that new 0day exploit rootPoC mod it however and release it
Found this [Have not tried it yet]
Came across an article on androidbiits. Not sure it's actually viable. Unfortunately I cant post the direct link until I have enough posts under my belt.
I'm willing to pitch in if someone can point me in the right direction.
Yhuda
How now????You are find How to root this phone????Please add Develop for find How to root Samsung J3 Orbit?!??
For my kglock on, oem lock on j337u, which also has some new mdm / rmm on it from consumer , I used chimera tool to set KGLock to Complete.
This also switched the oem lock to off and show the toggle in Dev ops....
1st flash of magical patched img worked. But after.connectinf.the Wi-Fi , knox enrollment and instantly a sec. Msg popped up and locked up the entire device. No usb connection or.anything.
factory reset
Same Issue,.then locks up
So for try 3, flash the patched boot, let boot.
AS SOON AS ITboots to android, hit the Airplane Mode toggle to activate it to stop Knox Enrollmnt
So er.gont get
was able to unlock the boatloader with comb file that was compatible, flashed stock track phone, updated to 9 pie...
used a gig pressed power button ???
9 pie trac phone j3 orbit
patched AP file with majisk, ran with Odin : says noway fail, I was able to reflash with stock firmware, so it doesn't work on mine...
any other luck
thanks
I would really like to know if anyone has succeeded either rooting or SIM unlocking or flashing with a different firmware on this model.
I was able to access the OEM unlock in my J3 Orbit (SM-S367VL) via factory binary after flashing combination firmware.
That is as far as Ive gotten. I am assuming you would want to run ADB download mode to flash anything as factory binary seems to have some security measures against full bootloader unlock built in

Help me please!!! With s7 root problems!

so if anything I've been trying to root this s7 for some time now and have only achieved (stated by a root checker) a "broken shell" or "incomplete binary's" also that incomplete root by a 1 click auto root application still lingers on my phone. so I'm kind of looking for insight on ideas any ideas really, do I first need to remove this improper root before using the now apparently updated now capable one click root applications that are still failing but now initiating. (would that fix them and how do I do that?). I'm also open to flashing with Odin given correct Apk link to the correct Apk file for my phone, or any other method you think I could do... my phone and computer are ready to go usb debugging set up on both and oem unlocked.
My phone is Model: SM-G930U
Kernal: 3.18.71-14970140
Build number: R16NW.G930UUESACSI1
I believe a v8 bootlocker on phone along with the Qualcomm SnapDragon 820 processor.
ill be around for the next while and probably drop in periodically till my phone is rooted, thank you very much and please reply: Dylan
