Hi,
Yesterday (08/02/2013) I updated my tf700t, everything seemed to be fine after it rebooted, I was playing a game, the battery was low, and it turned off abruptly. I assumed it automatically shutdown because of the battery, so I put it in the dock and plugged in the charger. Several hours later I tried turning it on and nothing. I held down the power button for 8 seconds felt the double vibration, but no display. I tried various combinations of docked/undocked, power cord plugged in, holding the power button for 30-60 sec. etc. but nothing.
Out of curiosity I connected the HDMI to my computer monitor and sure enough, it was there, I could unlock it and everything seems to be functioning fine, just no display. The digitizer seems to work fine, although guessing where things are at is pretty tough.
I think I tried the cold boot, volume up/down (I tried both) plus power, and it didn't make a difference.
In order to do the update I had to flush the DMC Client and CMClient data and cache, I had been getting errors from DMC Client crashing.
Also I'm not certain this is update related, as the tablet had been acting wierd, which is why I did the update. I would press the power button to turn the screen on and nothing would happen, so I'd hold it down longer and the tablet would reboot and finally the screen would come on, or it would come on a few seconds after I pressed the button. I was getting a lot of reboots etc... I thought the update might resolve this.
I'm not sure if the problem is hardware, firmware, or software related.
I'm wondering if when I flushed the DMC and CM Client cache, maybe I deleted the drivers for the display or something?
My options seem to be:
1.) Factory reset by feeling around the digitizer while connected to HDMI
2.) Factory reset via the pinhole
3.) Install new (old) firmware via usb/computer. (the device is recognized by Windows 7 so I think this is doable.)
4.) Send it off to Asus. (would this be free?)
So my questions are:
1.) is there something else I should try?
2.) what order should I do the above in?
*Note: I'd like to save my data somehow.
*Edit: I forgot to mention I was on 4.2.1, no root or anything. Also I bought this in July of '12 so I'm pretty sure it is out of warranty. Any idea how much it might cost to send it off? Perhaps I could replace the LCD myself? I replaced the digitizer/screen on an ipod touch, although I'm sure this LCD is much more expensive and much harder to replace. This is turning into a nightmare. So much for trying to keep my data, now I hoping to keep this from becomming a paperweight.

A bloke at work had this issue. He let it rundown and left it for 3 days. It worked fine again after that.

If you don't even see the boot logo, it cannot be software related.

I guess on the software/firmware it depends on the definition. To me drivers are software, firmware is anything written in VHDL. I suppose what I'm really wondering is if it is software/firmware vs. hardware, i.e. is the LCD or some other component dead or is the display just not getting written to, initialized or whatever.

I wouldn't put the tablet into the freezer.
Does the backlight come on? If not, it's definitely a hardware problem. If the bootloader boots fine but doesn't show anything, that also looks like a hardware problem.

I'm not sure about the backlight, I think maybe it does, it is kind of hard to tell. I'll try checking in a dark room tonight. Since the screen is just black I suppose I'm looking for a brighter shade of blackness?

I don't know what is the cause but like I said I saw this with my very own eyes - the same as yours. Double buzz on boot not screen but HDMI worked. Somehow completely draining the battery fixed it ...... So hardware / software? Who knows? If it was hardware why did draining the battery fix it? The device has been absolutely perfect for 3 months since and has never done it again.....

Thanks sbdags, I will definitely try this. I'm not sure if I should hurry and contact Asus though, I bought this thing around July 22 2012 I think so it is barely more than a year old, not sure if they would cut me some slack on the warranty or not.
Do you think I need to let it sit three days or just make sure the battery is good and run down before charging again? Also I've seen some suggestions for charging from a computer vs. wall as it charges slower, do you think that would be better?
I'm getting into panic mode and want to make sure I don't do anything rash that limits my options.

All he did was leave it for 3 days. Our assumption was that the battery had completely drained in that time....... A charge later (he was actually just about to box it to send to Asus) and it surprisingly started as if nothing had happened.
Having the same problem
I am having almost the same problem, except that the tablet screen works when the wall charger is plugged in. THe HDMI display and the digitizer work fine. It is just the tablet's screen dispaly when the charger is unplugged.

So I didn't have any luck letting it run all the way down.
I contacted customer support, the warranty is only 1 year, but fortunately for this there is an extra 3 months, so I just managed to squeak by, although I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

i have d same problem well until last week the screen displays when conne ted to wall charger now its all blank but iy works via hdmi, digitizer works fine but all blank, this tf201, does anyone know if i change d whole display it will work?
i already bought the tf701

I have not seen people mentioning VHDL and verilog for a while, hahaha... It sounds like you are a low level or physical layer programmer. Any way, a firmware is in general a low level program that communicating with the hardware and the software or high level program ( level 7).. If you will, a firmware is a management levels (level 2 and 3). A VHDL is a level 1 which generates a 0's and 1's or mapping the transistors in the FPGA chip for example.... Oh well, it is just my definition...

If you can get the output from the HDMI port, it is more likely you have a hardware problems. I think that the problems are your display related hardware. If you really want to troubleshoot your issues, you can look on the mother board to locate all the electrolytic caps and check to see any abnormal signs of those capacitors. Those caps are the one that will blew up first before any others parts go....Good luck...:fingers-crossed:

I wish I wasn't here under these circumstances, but yesterday my phone got drenched by the faucet when I accidentally dropped it in the sink. I turned it off right away and tried to dry it by blowing out all the holes/buttons/etc. with canned air. then (maybe stupidly) I turned the phone back on and used it the rest of the day, not really noticing that it wasn't charging when I plugged it in until later when the battery got very low and I plugged it in again and noticed that the charging symbol didn't appear.
Ultimately, what I found DID work, (at least temporarily, sometimes it still stops charging) was turning the phone off, then plugging it in, then turning it back on . When I did this, usb (and wireless) charging work, as well as the USB connection for getting files off the phone on my computer.
It's a bit odd that this is what worked, but so far, it seems to. I'm just not quite sure if there's anything else I can do other than maybe send the phone to LG for repair, or find a local shop that might be cheaper...
Just looking for any suggestions or information anyone may have to help me fix this. thanks in advance!

You should have not used the phone but put it turned off in a bowl of uncooked rice for a few days. Optional also removed the back and the battery if possible. You will have corrossion now and maybe worse electrical damage.

Yeah, I recognize that it was a bad idea... but there's not much I can do about that now. I'm just trying to figure out what my best course of action going forward is.

Try to remove the back and battery and place it in a bowl of uncooked rice asap for 2-3 days, this will limit the damage. Your warranty will also be voided i`am afraid as the moisture indicators are colored now.

what do you think the chances of the moisture indicators NOT being colored would be?
I had the phone inside a bumper case which covers the sides of the phone and the back. Some water got inside the case, but maybe not enough to wet the indicators.. I'd hate to open the phone and then realize they weren't colored. I hate opening phones if possible, but that'd be the only way to know for sure , I guess...
I'm working on getting my hands on a back up phone to use currently , but I hate to see the condition of this one get worse... (my nexus 4 that I was going to use as a backup hasn't wanted to power on in a couple months after I botched Rom flashing attempt and subsequent failure to accept a charge)

Water goes through the tiniest cracks and openings so i guess the indicators are colored. Only one sure way to find out and that is looking inside the phone. Look on YouTube for a Nexus 5 iFixit dissasembly video.
Opening up the phone doesn't really void the warranty. Breaking something while opening it does. You still had the headphone jack and the usb port open right? That means water got in and tripped the sensors. This is pretty much guaranteed. IMO, those sensors are too sensitive. Just using the phone in a humid place (bathroom while shower is running) trips them.
If everything works fine just try a wireless charger

The fact that your charging doesn't work reliably anymore probably means the moisture indicators would be coloured... I've had phones where the water didn't damage it at all and they still were

I have searched and searched this forum to find any threads or posts that describe this problem. I have found lots of similar ones, but none like this, so that is why I have started a new thread. If I missed this topic somewhere, I apologize for not having found it.
My wife and I both have Skyrockets (GSII - I727). Stock AT&T ROM (not rooted), but both unlocked. Mine got partially wet last week (toilet incident, would rather not elaborate, but I will answer the first question everyone asks - yes it was a "clean" toilet ) Anyway, I immediately liberally rinsed all ports with alcohol and warmed gently with a hair dryer. After drying I powered up, and everything worked, except the battery percentage display (with a variety of completely fresh and fully charged batteries), would only show in the 50 - 68% charge range, and the phone seemed to die at about the rate one would expect commensurate with those numbers. Put it in a bag of rice for 2 days. No better.
So, after reading here and watching several YouTube videos, I completely disassembled the phone. cleaned all ports, ribbon connectors, mother board, etc. with CRC electrical contact cleaner spray using the spray tube and a very gentle toothbrush. I paid special attention to the micro USB charging port, and all other contacts and circuits that seemed to be related to charging, though I am by no means an electrical engineer or technician, so a lot of it was guesswork. I made sure all was dry and new looking. All contacts intact, no visible corrosion or bridging, and reassembled the phone perfectly (pretty proud of myself for not breaking anything in the process!)
The phone still works great, except for the battery percentage display issue. I have tried everything I've read on this forum about recalibrating the battery meter - discharging fully and then charging up. With the phone on, with the phone off, every permutation I can think of. I tried clearing the cache and rebooting. Still, the maximum the display will read is 68% and that's it, and the phone behaves and dies like it has a battery that is only 68% full, even though I know I am putting 100% charged batteries into it. I have verified this by putting the same batteries into my wife's identical phone and it displays 100%.
If my phone we're lasting as long as it normally would with a fully charged battery, I wouldn't be so bothered by the display being inaccurate, but that is not the case. I've downloaded CPU SPY and some other apps to see if my phone is using an unusual amount of battery resources, but it is not. So, that's the story.
I am not afraid of rooting the phone, and I have no warranties left so I don't care, it's just that from what I've read here on the forum, people with somewhat similar issues have not benefitted from rooting and then running apps or programs that are only available to rooted phones, so I would prefer not to go down that time consuming route, if all I'm going to do is hit another dead end.
So, any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your post sireniankyle. Not a dumb question at all, and actually the answer is no. I have certainly considered it, but I haven't done it yet for 2 reasons.
The first is that from all the research I've done, trying to find others who had similar experiences (I have yet to find anyone with the IDENTICAL problem), they have all without exception reported that factory reset did not solve their problem.
Second, because of my previous experiences with doing a factory reset, it seems that no matter how well I am backed up, that it turns into a very time consuming process in getting the phone tweaked and with all the applications and setting back to where I had them. So, I've been holding out and saving factory reset as one of the last resorts.
The other last resort is to root the phone, because apparently there are some apps that might be able to reset the battery counter that will only work on a rooted phone. However, again in my research thus far, I haven't identified anyone with a rooted phone with a similar problem who has had succeeded in solving the problem.
Perhaps this weekend if/when I have the time and patience I will attempt one or both of the above. It's just that I have such low expectations of success that am reluctant to start down those paths.
If you, or anyone else on this forum can point to any experiences where these methods actually worked for someone in this same or similar situation, I would very much appreciate if you could direct me to the appropriate thread.

No problem. I just try to help out where I can.
I can't say that I have had any of these issues. I understand the issues with backing up, but if you install twrp, you can create an entire backup of your phone. I've done it many times before without issue, and if resetting it doesn't work, you can still go back to your original set up.
It seems like you may be a pioneer in this particular issue. I hope you figure it out. Both for yourself, and for others who have this problem in the future.

I used to like being a "pioneer", but as I get older now I just want my stuff to work, and don't have the time or the patience to go where no man has gone before Nevertheless, I absolutely hate to admit defeat, and now that you've turned me onto twrp (do I have to root first to use it?), then perhaps that will make the experiment less time consuming, so I may try this weekend if time allows.
In the meantime, the phone continues to function normally in every other way. I simply carry a couple fully charged batteries in my pocket throughout the day, which are of course 100% charged via my wall charger, but show as 58% as soon as I put them in the phone, and then die at approximately the rate one would expect from a 58% charged battery! Weird huh?

Was given a Skyrocket the other day which suffers from the same kind of problem (had massive water damage), but the battery percentage is stuck at 0%. So of course it will not even boot up. (Fully charged the battery in a wall charger.) Only thing the power button will do is vibrate the haptic feedback given at first power on, no screen activity. Funny thing is it'll go into Download mode perfectly normally and sit on the Odin mode screen till I assume the battery dies. However it will not go into Recovery mode. Plug in a USB charging cord to charge block or a port on a PC and the phone powers on and works perfectly fine, though forever stuck at 0% battery.
So the only thing I can think of to quickly get around this is without solving the problem, if in fact it can be, is to get a charging case. Like such, for example. http://http://www.ebay.com/itm/XPAL-Galaxy-S2-Skyrocket-PowerSkin-Case-i727-Extended-Battery-Gel-Cover-OEM-New-/310903753323 Had one similar before for another model and when installed it shows as if the phone is charging. So in theory will work for me, though powered strictly by the cases battery. Should work for you even better as you'll get the cases battery life then your own 58% worth of battery life. Edit, just realized when the last post was made, you probably have a new phone and moved on by now.

On Tuesday night i spilled some water on my s6 during my sleep (ffs) and it was beeping and vibrating all night long. it wouldnt charge, wouldnt turn on without restarting etc. I then put it in rice for 48 hours and it seemed to work fine. unfortunately this morning my phones battery started acting up, jumping from 60% to 90% in a matter of minutes and other random jumps, especially when i restart it.
it now will not reach 100% when charging.
This could also be the result of me flashing a zip which promised to fix the deep sleep bug..
what should i do? ive tried factory reset and battery calibration etc.
on extrolite rom.

Try re-flashing your firmware via Odin, just to be sure that it's not a software issue.
I doubt that a small spill would cause this, check out YouTube on the s6 and waterproof testing (although I know this is extreme and not at all supported by Samsung and should not at all be attempted)
is there any vapor on your screen or camera ?
try another charger
I don't know if ADH is offered on your device in your country but where I live Samsung cover 2 incidents, either broken glass or water damage. Look into this before fiddling with the device.

Thats what i thought. There was vapour on the camera, but its now gone since i left it in rice.
im trying another charger now, good idea.
Being in the U.K it is not covered by ADH, but i do have geeksquad.
so far with the new charger it seems to be more consistant; could it be that the fast charger was putting to much voltage in? it seemed to charge to around 80% really quickly then would drain (whilst charging) back down to about 30%.
Now it is slowly climbing in the 70%s, much more normal.

Just restarted it and it dropped back down to 60%. think i will need to claim insurance

Vapor in the camera is a 100% indication that your device is compromised and your best action from here would be to stop wasting time and get it replaced via what ever insurance you have on the device.
I'm quite sad to hear that a simple spill on this phone caused a failure. expected a bit more splash proof despite it not being rated.

Yep its a shame because apart from this battery issue the device is completely faultless, even the speakers sound clear and as new.
Also will not connect to my pc as a usb device, so there's definitely something wrong.. Im disappointed
to be honest, i watched the videos on how waterproof it was and i have no idea how a tiny amount of water reached so far into the device.
Looks like i'll have to pay around £100 to fix it.

yep, it really wont charge above around 70% now,
i dont think insurance will even cover it because the damage is minor..

damage is damage. you find that the micro usb port got electrical damage
My Asus Zenfone 5z suddenly stopped fast charging i know its not the charger thats the problem, ive used it on several different phones and it still works. Now comes another problem, when i charge my phone and restart it while plugged in the charging symbol doesnt appear but i know its charging but slowly via ampere app. I need to unplug then plug it again then it shows the charging symbol. My PC's and Laptops cant detect the phone but charges it. I have the bootloadeer unlocked, but when i charge my phone powered off it pops up every few seconds and the LED indicator doesnt light up. I tampered with something then it fast charges all of a sudden, i even moved the phone around to ensure that the charger isnt faulty. Then when i went to go and charge my phone is slowly charges up again.
Any help? Do i just go to a technician? its harder because its lockdown where im from. Is it my charging pin thats faulty??
Maybe cleaning it can help, use isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush or cotton swabs.

I echo what @XDHx86 has stated. At times, your charging port can be clogged up with dirt, lint, dust, etc... Cleaning it might resolve the issue. However, be sure not to use anything but isopropyl alcohol, preferably 70%+ solution.
Could be a charger port (PBC) failure if cleaning doesn't help.
Could also be a battery failure. Check for any signs of battery swelling.
Unlikely it's software.

no battery swelling, but i might go to a technician and see if they find a problem. As for now im trying everything before going. I did something, forgot what it was but it fast charged then i wiggled my charger around to see if it stops but it didn't. Tried plugging again and again but after a few hours it didn't fast charge again. Anyways what's a PBC failure?????

You replace the port PCB. The port PCB can effect other seemingly unrelated systems when it fails depending on the manufacturer.
What warning? It may be a firmware or hardware issue. Normally the firmware doesn't go corrupt for no reason.
Possible mobo failure.
There's also the possibility of a rootkit infection.
If running on Android 8 this becomes more likely and if so it may need to be reflashed to purge it.
Is there any other kinds of unusual behavior when running?
You need a tech who is very familiar with this make.

im running on Android 10. I'm talking about the warning when you power on your phone(image attached) Yes, i have some unusual behavior that's been running for the past few days such as: When i restart my phone when plugged in the LED light turns off when its powered off then turn on during the booting screen, then it will completely off once the phone is open BUT my battery percentage isn't going down. I still see it charging via ampere app. The charging symbol also doesnt show(i need to unplug then plug again for it to show) The phone still charges but very very slow.

and this phone was also given to me with an unlocked bootloader didn't know what it was then but i know now. I probably can fix it if its some software problem with the help of this website as I'm very familiar with PC's. Thanks for the help if ever.

I'm no expert on this, but is that a normal warning if you unlock the boot loader?
I'm not advising you to lock it as that may cause other issues but doesn't having unlock increase security risks?
In any event if it does have a rootkit* a factory reset should purge it. If it has custom rom, I have zero experience with them.
I don't like using factory reset as it's best to find the root cause instead. In your case it may not help at all if the root cause is hardware. You need to observe the symptoms and use the process of elimination.
This is one of the reasons I run a stock Android, in some respects it simplifies troubleshooting.
* be careful with all downloads especially side loaded apps. Playstore downloads aren't without risk though.
Email downloads are high risk; keep it all in the cloud whenever possible.
Check the download folder regularly for odd behavior and unauthorized downloads.

I be very careful about locking the boot loader.
Make sure you know the full implications before doing so.
You might consider flashing it to it's stock rom especially since the boot loader was unlocked when you got it.
Make sure it's functional enough to take a flash though, last thing you need now is to brick it.
If it's a hardware issue this should be corrected first.

I've tried factory resetting 2 times to no avail. It's a normal warning sign, its part of the booting process. But if i power off my device then charge it keep popping up every few seconds. Would a custom rom fix this? or do i just go to a technician now? Also for some reason only Type A to C chargers work. Ive tried my sibling's charger that's Type C to C and it doesn't work, but Type A to C works for them. Also my phone charges on my PC but it doesn't detect it despite having my phone on file transfer mode. I'm trying everything as it's hard to go to a technician especially during covid

Yeah, bricking it would be a bummer. I'm still researching on bootloaders and custom Roms in general. Tips on it would be great tho. And no need to be sorry. And I saw this reply late, I've replied to your previous comment.

The unlocked boot loader is suspicious.
Like I said if it's hardware is stable enough to do a reflash I would. Go with the OEM rom it originally came with for now so you have a known good rom loaded... it will simplify troubleshooting.
Error on the conservative side.
Letting a good experienced tech look it over is the safest route.
Finding one may be difficult. One that's does rooting may be more helpful.
On the PC try accessing it in drive management, try the rescan drives command.
The PC not detecting it maybe a driver issue.
In hardware management try updating or rolling back the driver. Try another port.
Reboot...
Look at Event Viewer for error messages after trying to connect the device.
If it's not the PC it maybe the phone's port PCB has failed.
Inspect the phone port carefully with a good light source and magnification. Look for signs of damage, corrosion or debris.
Try gently cleaning as mentioned with anhydrous (99%) isopropyl alcohol and a soft bristle toothbrush. Allow to dry in a low humidity room before using. Isopropyl alcohol is hygroscopic so it will grab moisture out of the air to some extant plus the cooling tend to do so all well.
A blower bulb or fan helps speed drying.

If don't have the skillset it be probably the best plan. Ask about experience and pricing upfront.
If you can see the techs working and using ESD mats/wrist straps that's a good sign.

it looks like this when i restart it by the way. Mind you the Charger is secured. And at the end i unplugged then plugged it again then it charges. I've tried using the phone while charging to see if it stops charging but it doesn't, so i ruled the charger out of the problem. Thanks again.

You shouldn't need power it off to recharge.
So it won't charge unless powered off?
