I have a Samsung SM-G930S... which is Exynos 8890.
Can I then put on any ROM from any other Exynos 8890 based phone? And all will be well?
All will be well if you enjoy a brick
Only flash stock ROMs for your model S7 (G930S)
Bootloaders etc are different between models, it doesn't just depend on the chipset

If custom roms, then yes. I have a G930L. Same korean variant as S & K.

So then you stick to L, S and K supported custom ROMS? ...
I see quite a few custom ROMs for the G930F version but that would unsupported/dangerous?

That would be fine. Example custom rom for korean variants are superman rom, superstock rom. I'm currently using superman rom

012512, thank you for your answer. I will look up those two ROMS. This rooting of the Samsung phones seems a bit more complicated than the last time I was rooting, the LG-G3 and the OnePlus One, or is it my imagination.... or just getting more-forgetful?
When you look for ROM's compatible for your phone, are you looking specifically that they are for the SM-G930S, or exactly what are you looking for? Other non-Korean variants that will work?
Thanks again.

Any custom tw roms will be fine. Take note that aosp roms are no longer supported for korean variants.
S7 korean variants are g93xK/L/S
So if you install a g930/5F custom tw rom, you can install it on your phone as long as you don't install the stock g93xF/FD roms.
Also, there is a separate twrp for korean variants in order to install a custom tw roms. Please refer "heroltekor" twrp.

[ROM][STABLE][N][7.0][DQIC][03.10.17][SM-G930F/FD/K/L/S/W8] SuperMan-Rom V2.7.0

Excellent information, thank you. By trial and error, before picking up your post, I put on an Exynos Infinity 8+ from v8. It seemed to flash fine using the default Bixby CSC indicated in the setup. I did this last night so have not had time to chck out all things, however, cell phone, messaging, bluetooth all work just fine. I'm about to clean install the v17 of the Infinity in a few minutes. TWRP is a a** saver and my friend.
Thank you, again.

Hi,
I bought Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G930S from the store which was converted into SM-G930FD as I was not having Korean sick apps installed in my mobile and there was no Korean logo of "BANDLTE" while switching off and switching on, when I saw my phone model name it was SM-G930FD and was supporting dual sim both had a same IMEI. But when I restarted my mobile after getting home phone got locked with this message "Custom Binary Blocked By FRP Lock" so decided to got into boot menu there I saw SMG930S written so i flashed mobile with SKT Korean firmware of smg930s but when I installed it I got tons of Korean apps and getting "BANDLTE" logo while switching off and on my phone I lost that Samsung Original logo which I had when my phone was converted into smg930fd. Now I want to switch back to Smg930fd settings/firmware so get rid of these Korean apps and Model to be appear as SMG930FD as the back of my Samsung Galaxy s7 glass has a phone model SMG930FD. I don't know Shopkeeper scammed me or what I told him I wanted to buy SMG930FD but he gave me this converted phone Kindly help me to get back to SMG930FD firmware/settings

Same case for me, one thing different is that i bought the phone used from some random guy on the internet, i tried OTA to get Oreo as the phone had Nougat but it says no update available for me, 4G didn't work on my netword too, then when i saw samsung health not working i thought knox probably is voided when i checked odin i found its a 930S instead of the FD.
I do believe there is ways to convert to the 930F/FD by flashing select flash, using a box/dongle or some paid tool like R3 or Chimera or whatever you can get your hands on. I work on a repair workshop, have those i mentioned above and i saw this feature where you can actually select which part you wanna flash from a specified md5 file, i didn't test it on any phone yet, but i think they flash the bootloader of the real variant 930X but they put the AP of the international version 930F/FD, from the AP file you can also select what to flash and what to not, so you can actually only flash system.img of the XXXF version and the rest can be from the original variant. Never tested it but i think that's how it works.
My advice is to return the phone, that's what i'm going to do as i just bought it today (i was a happy dumbea** already bought few cases and whatnot...) the phone is still good and all functions perfectly, 4G might not work on some networks due to the different bands but everything else is the same! there is a big chance you can get the international firmware on it and be happy with it, but there is always a chance of breaking it too! or getting a network lock which i guarantee you, you're not going to like...
I don't know if this type of phones is refurbished, but i really hate that Samsung actually does that or allow this to be possible (happened before with an S6), same goes for LG too (Had a v10 korean model with Tmobile firmware).
Again, my advice, return it!!
Okay so here is an update on my case, might help anyone. if you did read my previous reply you'll know that i bought the phone from someone online, contacted him back he didn't block me nor ignore me, he even called me himself, but he bought a ps4 with my money and can't go back. Still waiting to see if he can get the money back, but what i was thinking is to ask for few dollars back just cause 4g network and dual sim functionality doesn't work on the phone, again its a 930S with 930FD firmware, after confirming and playing around its actually 930F not FD so i think i can get back the dual sim function. I'll be flashing the phone if i got no money back, try to get FD or 4G working on it and sell it for maximum price, then use the extra money i'll take from him to sorta re-gain my money and try to find a better one.
If i ended up flashing this 930S to a 930F or FD i'll post the method and the result and link it in another reply for anyone interested.
Wish me luck.

Hi,
I'm facing the same situation. I bought G930FD dual sim but later I found that it's actually G930S.
Now I want to install its stock firmware which is Android 8.0 by SK Telecom, Korea
Can you please tell me:
1. Changing the ROM will covert the phone into Single SIM version?
2. The phone will lock to Korean network only?
3. This will change everything into Korean?
Cheers

1. Yes it will!
2. This one depends if your phone is unlocked or not, most of the time it is unlocked.
3. The firmware is all the same Korean, US, Canada or international the biggest difference will be in bloatwares, as I had that phone before I can tell you, you'll have many SK telecom apps.
4. (this one I added) If you flash your phone with the original Korean firmware which is by downloading the firmware for the S7 SM-G930s from Sammobile and flashing it using ODIN, going back is quite hard! So if you're network locked or you want the dual sim functionality back, you'll need a special tool/dungle called Z3x to make the thing work!
5. (I also added this) To unlock the phone and make it work on all networks there is a process called "Patching the certificate" and it requires an unlocked bootloader which probably you already have, and root! and most importantly! it only works on Android Nougat. Basically what Im saying you can only have dual sim function in Android Nougat with the 930FD firmware, also if you flash the original firmware and its network locked, if you wanna go back you'll need that tool I mentioned and again, only Android Nougat.
Had that phone before, still have the firmware backup for the 930StoFD also. I can help if needed.

Thank you for such a detailed answer.
Now I'm confused to select a blue pill or red one
At one hand the current OS is outdated and have a very annoying and UN-stopable adware buit-in; but it's dual SIM
and on the other hand I may have an updated and ad-free OS by sacrificing dual SIM functionality

What you can do is install TWRP recovery, you can download it from "twrp.me/Devices" and look for your specific device, backup everything and transfer it to a PC or a memory card, just in case you'd like to go back later, then you can flash the original firmware with Android Oreo and see if you like it more and if its worth dropping the dual sim for! if you don't like it, you just reFlash TWRP as it will be erased, format the partitions and restore the backup, You'll be back with Nougat and dual sim function but the network won't work till you patch the certificate (used to be called repair network), and for that you'll need root, debug enabled, and the z3x. Your issue will probably be that last one, z3x, cause as far as I know you'll need this tool or a similar one to get the network to work again! and just to mention, for some reason, if you erase the dalvik cache or reset the phone, you'll have to patch the certificate again.
Just think it through carefully, I work in a repair shop so I got access to lots of tools, but in your case if you don't, it might be quite hard to get things working again if they break.

Happy to hear the issue is solved.
Couple of things you can try for a better experience if you like modding and tweaking.
If you have root and magisk, you can install a module that enhance your camera, it will increase the quality and add some extra features (I just installed it three days ago on my S8+, and the S7 is also supported, love it)
You can install a sound mod that gives you stereo like sound by using the earpeace and the bottom speak together.
Also with root you can patch your host file (Luckypatcher can do that) to block like 99% of the ads within the apps (I can't live without this one, life saver)
And can find tons more withing the forums, these are the ones I tried myself.

Hey guys!
Yesterday I got a Sprint carried S7 SM-930P as a gift. The only problem is that although it works flawlessly on my sim cards (I'm not in the US), I found out that the 930P won't get the 7.0 update. Is it possible to flash the G930U firmware without messing my phone up?

I wouldn't do it unless your absolutely sure, I wouldn't be so sure if it's for a different model number. If they were able to have the same firmware flashed Samsung would just release it, they obviously didn't because it requires extra effort, pointing towards the conclusion that the firmware is not flashable on 930P

You can flash it, i have done it myself. There are many guides over here that tell you how. All S7s in the USA are the same exact thing hardware wise, only the software (firmware) is different. Am currently running SM-G930U firmware on an SM-G930VL S7. @op the sprint s7 (SM-G930P) already has android 7 as of last 3 weeks

Hey guys. I was able to flash the sm-g930u firmware downloaded from sammobile... the problem I have now.. I have a blank csc. No product code.. and on software updates it fails to register my device. Also in settings . I have some weird options. Which some of them are repeated. I will upload screenshots.. Also there's a system UPDATE option and also software option. Which one of them fails to register and the other only works with Wi-Fi. Should I revert back to my stock sprint firmware. If so do I need to wait for a firmware with same build date or newer. Because on sammobile haven't uploaded a firmware with a build date on par with the current install. Then I would have to wait right. ? If using a older firmware it will brick or do something to my phone ?

Hey Buddy. I would recommend doing a full back up on your phone., using Smart Switch app
It saves all your numbers, message, etc..
Then proceed to flash the latest firmware for the Region or Provider. Using (CSC) not (home_csc) which means flashing the csc will wipe your phone data. Phone will be like new again. Proceed tru set up. Loggin in gmail. Proceed to update smart switch app if not found in apps. Then restore from the back up file. And good to go.

actually all S7 are not the same hardware fyi. The Sm-g930p has chipsets snapdragon and uses cpu procesaor quad core but the sm-g930F has the chipset Exynos8 cpu is octa-CORE the chipsets vary from these two. He said all S7's in the USA are the same, which is correct. Exynos/930F isn't sold in the US, only way to get one is to grey import.
You can flash any USA model's firmware onto any other USA model because they're all the same hardware.
anyone running the 930p with current update how did you get around the binary 6 lock all the 930U firmware versions I can find are binary 4 I think t-mobile is 5. Anyone got links to a firmware we can push to sprint variants that are binary 6.

You can't get around it. It is currently impossible to "downgrade" the bootloader binary version. All US carrier variants are version 4, except Sprint that is 6. You are stuck.
The only way it would ever be possible is if (a) one of the carriers, in a future software update, increases their bootloader version to 6, or (b) if someone figures out how to unlock the bootloader for the Snapdragon models.
Neither of those options is likely to happen, ever. You might get lucky and hope the G930U unlocked version has a higher number (it hasn't been released for Oreo yet), but I wouldn't bet on it.

Blame Sprint; there is really no reason for them to do what they did except keep users from switching their phone to another carrier. This isn't a Samsung thing. I don't believe you would be able to do this with any other Android phone, either (i.e. go backwards in bootloader versions).
I recently bought S7 SM-G930F, but when I went into it's phone info and recovery, I saw that it has a Verizon bootloader. All the rest is of 930f. even the phone says 930f everywhere. I am not sure what this is. I am also facing some signal dropping issues, especially when I switch on to data network. I did the refurbishment check and it came out clean and original.
Can someone please guide me how to fix this? Perhaps a way to change the bootloader to that of 930F without screwing up the phone?
Please find the pics attached for reference.
Thanks in advance for the help.

you phone is a verizon see the snapdragon chipset and the baseband version
either you have flashed a phone with G930F kernel and rom
or whoever sold this to you tried to scam you
dont flash the F bootloader
Your phone is the verizon version which are much cheaper in comparison to the unlocked exynos variants
Flash verizon rom to get back proper caLL functions

Thanks for the response. I think I got scammed then. Two things though:
1) It somehow seemed to work the 1800 band for 4g, which is supported by 930F and not 930V I believe.
2) secondly, even the back of my phone says 930F .. like everything about it says 930F .. like is even the body changed??

Still network signal is poor though.

Hi, I have just bought a brand new galaxy S7, model SM-G930F.
Although it is an international model, it carries a snapdragon 820 processor.
I am told , that it is a USA model, built under Verizon.
SM-G930F is supposed to be a global model with exynos, does anyone knoes what is the phone I bought?
Anyway, my real problem is, that the "updates software" option is missing, in "about phone" list.
I am stuck in android 6.0.1
I checked it is not rooted and it must be a genuine phone.
Can anybody guide me through solutions?
I would really appreciate any help.
Thank you
Moving to general S7 Q&A since you say it's a SM-G930F.
Check the back of the phone and verify the phone model. You should be able to update through other options like Kies, unless they've changed that recently.

It's not a G930F if it has a Snapdragon processor
Commonly faked to look like G930F by editing firmware / stickers / model numbers etc, more likely to be the G930V if it's Verizon
Boot to download mode and check the model number in there, that's the only one that can not be faked
(Volume Down & Home & power)
And they likely removed the update option from settings to prevent any problems of the phone updating to either the wrong firmware, or removing their fake edits with a V update
Flash the proper firmware with ODIN 3.12.3 or newer from updato.com once you know your model S7
Galaxy s7 "updates software" option missing
Dear Durham,
Thanks for the help.
Yes, you are right; it is G930V.I have been tricked...
I have visited updato.com and found 12 variants of S7 firmware.
My bootlader version is - 6.0.1 November 20, 16 USA (Verizon) (VZW) G930VVRU4API3
Shall I download and install this one and afterwards make a manual software update or
shall I install the latest - 7.0 August 25, 17 USA (Verizon) (VZW) G930VVRS4BQH1 ?
After successful installation, will these firmware fake modifications( to G930F) disappear permanently?
I am much obliged
Thanks

The ROMs from updato.com are full ROMs so you can just flash the latest / newest one and you'll be 100% up to date once it boots
Use CSC and not HOME_CSC though as you are going to want to reset after the flash to clear any hacks from the previous ROM (This will wipe the device so backup any important files first)
CSC, AP, BL and CP
Yes this will permanently remove any modifications from the faked ROM
Wish me luck, I will give it a go!
You have been most informative, many thanks.

The good news is that the verizon edition can be rooted and is network unlocked from the factory so as long as ure carrier supports the bands it will still work for you on a side note flash the u firmware not verizon and u wont have any verizon bloatware out of the gate either
Mad scientist, thank you for your intervention.
Just to be clear, which firmware do you suggest me to install, not the verizon G930V?
Could I install the G930F for my country (Europe).
I thought they are incompatible...
As my bootloader version G930V I think I would better stick with the V version.
Are you suggesting not to upgrade to nougat and reinstall factory installed 6.0.1 and better wait for 8?
Yes you are right, I am not good at twiking. Will I have drain baterry issues with nougat?
Dear Durham,
Emergency help!!!!
I installed it succesfully but now it does not recognize my sim card, as it is from a non USA country.
Should I reflash a different firmware? F or U ?
I am from Greece
It seems to be working...
The Verizon logo appears upon starting the phone
But in language selection, there is only English and asian languages available.
Software update finally appeared.
In order to have my langage back, should I reflash with the U ( unlocked version) or the F (global)?
No mobile data.
Maybe I am calling through Verizon.Roaming.Expensive.Scarry...!!
He means that the G930U firmware will flash fine on the G930V, it is the same firmware but without the Verizon bloatware added
You can not flash any other firmwares, it just happens that those two are compatible with each other
Flash straight to the latest
So I shall flash the G930U?
Will my sim card be recognized and mobile data be active.
Nougat 7 or MM 6-your opinion, again?
thnks
No idea if your SIM will be recognised, but if it's not working with the V firmware it's worth a try
As I said, flash the latest firmware which is Nougat
Personally I would be contacting the seller and asking for a refund / exchange for a real G930F that you paid for
firmware
I tried, but he is not cooperative.
How about F version-it worked with it before ?
(only it was modified with the dissapearance of system update.)

No you cannot flash any other model firmware, that was NOT the G930F firmware, it was a hacked / faked U or V firmware
I think you better read a good few threads before going much further or you're going to end up with a brick
Contact the seller and request a refund
Don't suppose you can flash CSC files of the 930F on 930V?
Dear all,
Thank you for your help and interest in my problem.
This is indeed a great forum!!!
I tried to flash the F version, but thankfully odin stopped it from the beginning, presenting "failed" message.
I suppose if it continued, I would end up with a brick as Durham suggested.
Finally I flashed he U version, as mad scientist suggested, and up to now it works like a charm.
As Durham advised, I used CSC and not HOME_CSC and the hack was eliminated.
Sim card is recognized, no bloatware and mobile data working.
Let's hope it will continue like this...!!!
Only glitch, not everything is in my home language ( message icon name and in settings-the menu options-any idea how to fix it? - I removed english and left only my language as selection, but onle these remain untranslated)-small problem
I have learned a valuble lesson from my adventure.
Ebay, an organized platfrom may it be, it cannot control each individual's deceivals, so one must be extra wary when buyng from unofficial sources, nomatter good reviews from others...
Thanks again to you all for your help, I would be in serious position right now, if it weren't for you guys.
Upgraded to Note 9, want to pass my Note 8 on to a T-Mobile user. I want a complete T-Mobile experience, so all T-Mobile bloat and settings are needed (VoLTE, Hotspot, etc...) . Note 8 currently has latest CRID OTA from ATT. Looking for help in determining the correct way to proceed. I am having AT&T carrier unlock the device, so I would make this change after confirmed unlock. Also, once this is finished, will the device receive T-Mobile OTA updates?
I have read through https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884 but am confused. I see lots of mention of combination files, CSC changing, etc... that seem overkill for what i'm looking for.
Are these the steps I need to take?
1) Download latest Odin compatible TMB Firmware (which is what version?)
2) Download Odin on PC
3) Factory reset Note 8
4) Flash TMB firmware
5) Insert TMB SIM card
6) Success?
Yes just download this file

Someone in that thread said I would need to flash an unlocked U1 firmware and then the TMB firmware?
I am about to do this as well, switching from AT&T to T Mobile using my AT&T branded Note 8. I just wanted to confirm that it's as simple as downloading the latest Android Pie firmware for T Mobile and flash it to the AT&T branded phone? Any precaution like some other thread mentioned to flash the U1 (unlocked) firmware first then flash the T Mobile firmware?
Also, eventually, I will be giving this Note 8 to someone in China. At that point, is it better to flash the unlocked version of firmware or just leave the T Mobile firmware on it?
Thanks so much for your help.
Note: the phone is already unlocked.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I went and got T Mobile. After the new SIM card was inserted in my AT&T Note 8, after a reboot, it did something, a screen with a SIM car graphics and some moving dot. Then it rebooted itself again, and then T Mobile splash screen showed up. It even added the bloatware from T Mobile. So, Android 9 for Note 8 probably has both ROMs? I also checked the firmware version. It shows the latest T Mobile ROM.
I didn't have to do anything other than just inserting the new SIM card from T Mobile.
This is very interesting to me, and the store guy couldn't believe his eyes either.

Another update!
I just got updated by T-Mobile to the latest firmware after converting over as previously stated. I have to say that the update page on the phone for the T-Mobile firmware is MUCH nicer and informative than the ATT version. It tells you how much time left, the version numbers, and even a "what's new" section...
After this update, my phone is actually better at battery usage.
Hi respected members, I'm new here and I need your valuable assistance .
I bought S8+ and when I checked the model version in software it is showing SM-G9550 which is Chinese version not Hong Kong, but on the back of phone G955U is mentioned. For more confirmation I compared the IMEI and serial number which are mentioned on the back of phone and also showing in software information in about phone. IMEI and SN are same in about phone and on back side of phone. I also checked the carrier in downloading mode (after pressing Volume down + Bixby + Power Buttons) and carrier is VZW which is Verizon if I'm not wrong.
I'm foreigner in China and current Chinese version is creating problem in phone that no any update (current is 7.0) for my S8+ software and the latest security patch is 2017, some APPs like Facebook and Whatsapp don't show any notification etc.
I already used Hong Kong firmware in my GalaxyS7 Edge which works perfect and also have Google APPs, but Chinese version don't have Google APPs, and there is no any play store library. To solve this problem, I tried to install Hong Kong based firmware (9.0) but Odin shows error that can't create partition, after reading about this problem it seems that firmware is not compatible with current hardware.
So I want to ask these questions!
1: How I can install Hong Kong firmware in current situation or if I install G955U then will it work in China? and from where I can get unlocked firmware because I'm unable to find unlocked firmware. Reference (https://firmwarex.net/samsung-s8-sm-g955u-9-0-official-firmware/), from this link which will work in my phone?
2: If I used PIT file to install Hong Kong version then is there any security problem or my phone will work well?
3: I'm unable to find PIT file for my current problem. I also need PIT file if first option will not work.
Sorry for too long explanation.
Need your kind suggestions. Thanking you in anticipation.
My problem is seems to be same as https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/g955u-using-g9550-firmware-t3766862
Problem solved
I have solved my problem. As mentioned in my question G955U model is using G9550 because processor is same but RAM and storage is different.
I downloaded G955U1 from SamFirm and installed it. Working fine now.
I used this phone in China and Pakistan. The main problem in G9550 I was facing, it was 4G signals strength that were very weak in China and 3G was not working but in Pakistan 3G was working fine but no 4G signal on same phone. May be that was due to different bands. But now after installing G955U1 the LTE signal strength is very strong even better than iPhone X.
Still I'm searching about it that how anyone installed G9550 in G955U as I also tried latest G9550 on same phone but I was failed.

These guys will cross match the csc files to include carrier features for other country's. You can't out right install the 9550 firmware but can add bits of the csc to it. I've seen a bunch of "mutt" frankensteined devices. But don't like to get involved because stuff can go wrong real quick

Agree with you. I want to add bit more that G955U is 4GB RAM and 64GB Storage but G9550 is 6GB and 128GB. Obliviously firmware check the right configuration. As per my knowledge that we need to provide right BL (Boot loader) file. I mean BL file from G955U but other files from G9550. May be I'm wrong because I didn't try for it.
My problem is seems to be same as https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/g955u-using-g9550-firmware-t3766862

i have a similar problem too. i have a sm-g995u, i know because it is written on the back of the phone and also in the software info menu. however when i get into the AP and CSC values it says my phone is sm-9550. im currently suffering from poor network and i've currently lost signal. i mean my phone has been displaying "no service" for the past 2 days. I'm currently considering flashing another firmware but scared not to brick my device since i am a newbie with all this stuff.
my device is originally a g995u, if i flash a g995u1 firmware would it work?
what g995u1 firmware did you flash? i need help asap, ive been offline for a while because of "no signal" problem.

Yes you can install G995U1 in your phone. In my case I was also facing poor network issue, no phone call history and no live location for maps but after installing the G955U1, everything is working fine.

thanks man. i was able to flash the G995u1 firmware. However, my problem still remains, i still have no access to network. i cant seem to toggle or change network mode. its stuck on LTE/3G/2G, i suspect when i was on the road the connection to the lte was lost and failed to switch to the 3G. i see alot of people have similar issues.
i sincerely hope it is not a hardware issue like a roasted network chip...
sorry i cant use wechat because i have formated my phone. Kindly recommend any possible solutions please.

These guys will cross match the csc files to include carrier features for other country's. You can't out right install the 9550 firmware but can add bits of the csc to it. I've seen a bunch of "mutt" frankensteined devices. But don't like to get involved because stuff can go wrong real quick

It seems that there is problem with your network chip but yeah you should make sure that your phone hardware is based on G955U. G955U (USA version) and G9550 (Chinese or HongKong version) have same processor. As I already told you that my phone hardware was G955U (Verizon version) but G9550 firmware was installed because I bought it from China. I was facing many problems like slow speed, no live tracking of location using any navigation app, no call history and poor network coverage. After checking the phone I came to know that originally phone is G955U, you should also double check your phone version especially in downloading mode. After all I installed G955U1 (unlocked version) then everything works well. If your problem is same then G955U1 should work well. I installed Android 9 version.
Furthermore if you will try to install other versions like F (Global version) then obviously you will face other problems too.
