Please recommend budget phone for taking decent pictures - General Questions and Answers

Hi people, could you please help me to choose an Android smartphone for my dad. He's in his 70s and is pretty clueless about anything technical, so I'm gonna have my support work cut out for me, lol. The main purpose of the smartphone will be to take reasonable quality pictures of his family.
His basic requirements are:
5 inch display
Decent camera
Price £200 max. Could go a little higher if need be, but lower is better
Non-contract phone
Memory card slot
Note that the mobile tariff he signs up to is irrelevant at this point.
Also, recommendations for the best revew sites would be great for my own research too.
Any help appreciated.

Hmmm, shame. I wanted a separate thread so that it didn't get lost in the noise of all the other questions and answers in those threads and would know that all replies are relevant to me. I'm quite surprised that it's been ignored like this.
I'm a techie and actually quite capable of researching all this myself from scratch, but wanted advice from the experts on here to help save on time and effort. And hey, it's always best to have many pairs of eyes look at a problem, especially knowledgeable ones.

new phones and battery life

I've always wondered how much a battery degrades by after a few months or year on the $500+ non removable battery phones. when people say good things about their battery life is it right after they bought it instead of owning it for a while? I'm currently using a note 4 and I've tried 7-10k mah extended batteries but they go bad after a few months. might be unlucky compared to other customers but I've seen a few with similar issues saying they'll drain faster than the stock battery eventually overtime and not just a 10-20% decrease. that makes it hard to believe the numbers listed next to mah nowadays. how do note 8's, pixels, iphones etc. have great battery life when their mah number is nothing special? is it because of the newer chipsets having less power consumption? or things that aren't explained being better optimized? they're able to have higher brightness, resolution, smooth performance, faster charge, slim design, many features and more things I'm probably forgetting all on at the same time and still be better than the older phones without much tweaking or root. would be great if someone could explain to a noob like me. thx!

My apologies for the delay in responding to you.
Regarding the Forum Rules, I'm not a Moderator or Administrator so all I can do is recommend/Suggest but, it would be great if a Moderator like @SacredDeviL666 or @xanthrax would like to confirm/clarify the following.
It's not a good thing to plaster the same question on multiple new threads and/or multiple other threads but, If a thread was created for a question like yours and, one or two different threads already covers this topic, then you can copy and paste the same question within one of them that best fits because your just posting/asking the question within a more appropriate place.
I hope i had explained (and understand) it okay via text...

its okay to post as you posted here without knowing.
But the suggestion would be to pick any of the threads mentioned by @Ibuprophen and not on both threads.
Have fun :highfive: and also if you are unsure of something before posting do a search in xda or in google by using keywords eg:- new phone :xda (so this will let google search specifically within in XDA thread)

true when you see a whole bunch of terms and conditions to read and accept... all we do is we scroll right to the bottom select i agree to terms and conditions without even reading the first line. (that is our specialty including mine )
nothing to be ashamed of.... we all started at some point from nowhere at least i did and there are millions of users who would help you to get there.
This i am saying is out of pure experience :good:
So you my friend is right on track and keep passing the knowledge and things you learn here :victory:

Choice between Phones

I have a choice between getting a note 8 or a Google pixel XL 2. I have heard good things about them both, but which one should I buy? Google has it's own neat things, and Samsung has their neat things. Can you guys help me out
