HDR Mode Just disappeared ? - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Did Google get rid of the hdr+ toggle on the camera app ? I wanted to force hdr today , the option was there days a couple of days ago and now it's gone , I don't remember having updated the camera , is it a bug or did Google just made hdr+ automatic ?

Check advanced setting in the camera app.

Portrait-mode Selfie

How do you take a selfie in portrait-mode (to get the blurred background)? It doesn't seem to do it when I take a normal selfie nor does there seem to be an option or setting on the selfie camera mode. When I go to the portrait mode, there in no option to switch to the front camera.
Any help would be great! I've looked all over for an answer.

You switch cameras first then go to portrait ?

Do you mean just open up the camera, switch to the front camera and then go to portrait? Cause when I do that it switches back to the front facing camera ?
update the camera app from the play store and you should be good to go.

It seems like that's not an option since the camera is a default app. Doesn't even show up in my apps in the play store.

Hmm...I am connected to Wi-Fi. I even tried searching for it in the play store and it was all outside apps that came up.

Go to My Apps and Games from the menu in the top left of the home screen in the play store. Do you not see any updates available?

No I have it set on automatic and it says no updates available. I tried turning everything on and off as well just in case and checked on both WiFi and data connections

UPDATE: there is a cool feature I found under settings. Click support at the bottom and it allows you to chat with a support and then do a screen share. He did a troubleshoot for me and figured out that I am in fact running the version of camera that doesn't have the front facing portrait. He said the update is being released in batches and that is why it's not in my play store. Thanks everyone for your help!

Google Camera port with HDR+

Try this one google camera port from https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-fu24/. Seems fast and fluid for me. Only don't forget to enable Hexagon chip in settings
It keeps coming out blurry. I know it's something in the blur settings but haven't found setting to disable.

Oh, I forgot to mention, you shoot in lowlight? Don't forget to set HDR+ to advanced in upper bar, it would enable "always use HDR+". If just leave HDR+ as is then your shutter speed will remain very long and pix would come out blurry indeed
Every single one I downloaded from there gives me the Problem parsing package. Driving me nuts

Disable HDR Auto (Stock Pixel Camera App)

I did some searches so I hope this has not been covered yet... but I am new to the pixel phones and I have heard how great they are... so I was excited to take some pictures of my kids and my cousin.. however most of them came out blurry... I thought maybe the skin that came on the phone may have been interfering but after removing it saw the same issue... so after doing some digging.
I found that the HDR mode slows the shutter speed and can cause action shots to suffer... so i've been turning off HDR mode... but I noticed that it always defaults to HDR Auto when i go into the camera app and I did not see a setting to turn this off...
QUESTION: Is there a way to change the default camera mode on the stock pixel camera app?
Thank you!

Very simple. Click on that hdr+ auto sign and choose hdr off after expansion
It's a stupid decision made by Google to make it default to HDR auto on the Pixel 1 phones. The nexus phones and as far as I know the Pixel 2 generation do not have this behavior. Do not know of any mods which have bit through this problem either.

could you explain this in more detail? thanks!
I turn off hdr+ and it stays off for me.
using arnovas gcam mod but iirc this was the behavior on stock.
so i wonder if that mod helps keep the changes.. mine still continues to default to HDR + Auto each time I go back into the camera..

My completely stock Pixel XL does this.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Same happens with the NightEnabled_GoogleCamera_6.1.013_cstark27.apk.
You can turn HDR off but when the app restarts the setting is AUTO.
This must be controlled by the phone I assume, not the app itself.
Has anyone fixed this?

How to turn off Auto Portrait mode in Honor Play

Hi Guys, I am using stock camera and I am recently upgraded to Android 9.0 The problem I am facing is whenever camera detect faces, it automatically goes into Portrait mode. This is annoying especially in night time when shooting under artificial lighting condition. While taking group photos, its unnecessarily blurs the background and edge detection is also not good.
I would like camera to take normal photos not Portrait. I have checked all settings but there is no way I can disable it. Really hoping I get my working GCAM as it was working on Android 8.2, till then have to use stock camera

Which rom?
Try to erase the data in the apps.
Install GCam_5.1android11.200706.1149build-7.4.104 and test(if android 11)
Reset the phone.
I have the same problem. did you solve the problem?
remove data in app settings
check apkmirror for xiaomi camera and update/ or re-install
check with any camera app from playstore if its the same behaviour?

Other apps have also the same issue?
In that case a hard reset might be the last option.
If it would persist even after this, I would assume you have an hardware issue.
The modules are cheap on aliexpress

I had the same problem, but I solved it,
Remove the rear panel, remove the top cover. The popup camera has a connection cable (make sure it is not damaged), it was not in the right place, just turn it back on, restart the phone and then it was work again.
I had previously replaced the data cable on the phone, so my camera did not work.
