SM-G930F no OTA update settings - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I recently bought a new SM-G930F and it shipped with the Marshmallow firmware. I would like to update to Nougat via OTA but there are no OTA update settings anywhere in the settings menu.
Does anyone know what's wrong, and if so what I can do?
(Some extra information: It was bought manufacturer refurbished and appears to be a Verizon branded S7 that has had all of the Verizon bloatware / boot logo / settings stripped from the device. It is also a Snapdragon variant.)

You'll need to flash the correct firmware for it if you want Nougat
If it is a Verizon, G930V firmware is needed, you cannot flash G930F, that's just something they do to fake models to sell Snapdragon phones as Exynos
Double check in Download mode (Volume Down & Home & Power) for the correct model number
You can flash the G930U firmware on the V model, which is the unbranded version of the firmware (Not containing any carrier bloat)

S7 Product Name

I'm a beginner trying to upgrade/flash a S7 from China to have access to Google apps, but with no success so far (Secure check fail: Boot). In Odin mode "Product Name SM-G930F" is shown, but in Settings->About device->Model number = SM-G9300. How can I determine which ROM to use?
Boot the phone into download mode (Volume Down & Home & Power)
Whatever model is shown there is the correct model, firmware has likely been faked to sell the phone as the G930F - very common

Thanks for the information. Then I can assume that it is a G930F which is shown as Product Name in Odin/Download mode and that it has been flashed with a G9300 firmware. It would then be safe to flash it with a G930F ROM.

If it says G930F in Download Mode then yep you need to flash a G930F ROM, not sure why anyone would flash a G9300 ROM to a G930F S7 though, it's usually always the other way around

Sorry, my mistake. It actually says "G930V" in Download Mode, but on the back cover of the phone it says "G930U" (fake phone?). It was loaded with G9300 firmware which would make sense for the Chinese market. I've flashed it with a Verizon stock ROM and it seems to work. Just wondering if there is any "cleaner" firmware (G930U?) with less bloatware and the possibility to change the language completely and to get rid of the "Sim card not from Verizon" notification? Without rooting...

Not a fake phone, just modded to look like a different model, you can flash the G930U firmware to the G930V iirc
Yea looks like it's been faked to look different, common with the G930V's.
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/search/g930u/ those G930U firmwares should work, basically any snapdragon firmware would work on any snapdragon S7 I thought.

Galaxy s7 "updates software" option missing

Hi, I have just bought a brand new galaxy S7, model SM-G930F.
Although it is an international model, it carries a snapdragon 820 processor.
I am told , that it is a USA model, built under Verizon.
SM-G930F is supposed to be a global model with exynos, does anyone knoes what is the phone I bought?
Anyway, my real problem is, that the "updates software" option is missing, in "about phone" list.
I am stuck in android 6.0.1
I checked it is not rooted and it must be a genuine phone.
Can anybody guide me through solutions?
I would really appreciate any help.
Thank you
Moving to general S7 Q&A since you say it's a SM-G930F.
Check the back of the phone and verify the phone model. You should be able to update through other options like Kies, unless they've changed that recently.

It's not a G930F if it has a Snapdragon processor
Commonly faked to look like G930F by editing firmware / stickers / model numbers etc, more likely to be the G930V if it's Verizon
Boot to download mode and check the model number in there, that's the only one that can not be faked
(Volume Down & Home & power)
And they likely removed the update option from settings to prevent any problems of the phone updating to either the wrong firmware, or removing their fake edits with a V update
Flash the proper firmware with ODIN 3.12.3 or newer from updato.com once you know your model S7
Galaxy s7 "updates software" option missing
Dear Durham,
Thanks for the help.
Yes, you are right; it is G930V.I have been tricked...
I have visited updato.com and found 12 variants of S7 firmware.
My bootlader version is - 6.0.1 November 20, 16 USA (Verizon) (VZW) G930VVRU4API3
Shall I download and install this one and afterwards make a manual software update or
shall I install the latest - 7.0 August 25, 17 USA (Verizon) (VZW) G930VVRS4BQH1 ?
After successful installation, will these firmware fake modifications( to G930F) disappear permanently?
I am much obliged
Thanks

The ROMs from updato.com are full ROMs so you can just flash the latest / newest one and you'll be 100% up to date once it boots
Use CSC and not HOME_CSC though as you are going to want to reset after the flash to clear any hacks from the previous ROM (This will wipe the device so backup any important files first)
CSC, AP, BL and CP
Yes this will permanently remove any modifications from the faked ROM
Wish me luck, I will give it a go!
You have been most informative, many thanks.
Good luck :good:

The good news is that the verizon edition can be rooted and is network unlocked from the factory so as long as ure carrier supports the bands it will still work for you on a side note flash the u firmware not verizon and u wont have any verizon bloatware out of the gate either
Mad scientist, thank you for your intervention.
Just to be clear, which firmware do you suggest me to install, not the verizon G930V?
Could I install the G930F for my country (Europe).
I thought they are incompatible...
As my bootloader version G930V I think I would better stick with the V version.
Are you suggesting not to upgrade to nougat and reinstall factory installed 6.0.1 and better wait for 8?
Yes you are right, I am not good at twiking. Will I have drain baterry issues with nougat?
Dear Durham,
Emergency help!!!!
I installed it succesfully but now it does not recognize my sim card, as it is from a non USA country.
Should I reflash a different firmware? F or U ?
I am from Greece
It seems to be working...
The Verizon logo appears upon starting the phone
But in language selection, there is only English and asian languages available.
Software update finally appeared.
In order to have my langage back, should I reflash with the U ( unlocked version) or the F (global)?
No mobile data.
Maybe I am calling through Verizon.Roaming.Expensive.Scarry...!!
He means that the G930U firmware will flash fine on the G930V, it is the same firmware but without the Verizon bloatware added
You can not flash any other firmwares, it just happens that those two are compatible with each other
Flash straight to the latest
So I shall flash the G930U?
Will my sim card be recognized and mobile data be active.
Nougat 7 or MM 6-your opinion, again?
thnks
No idea if your SIM will be recognised, but if it's not working with the V firmware it's worth a try
As I said, flash the latest firmware which is Nougat
Personally I would be contacting the seller and asking for a refund / exchange for a real G930F that you paid for
firmware
I tried, but he is not cooperative.
How about F version-it worked with it before ?
(only it was modified with the dissapearance of system update.)

No you cannot flash any other model firmware, that was NOT the G930F firmware, it was a hacked / faked U or V firmware
I think you better read a good few threads before going much further or you're going to end up with a brick
Contact the seller and request a refund
Don't suppose you can flash CSC files of the 930F on 930V?
Dear all,
Thank you for your help and interest in my problem.
This is indeed a great forum!!!
I tried to flash the F version, but thankfully odin stopped it from the beginning, presenting "failed" message.
I suppose if it continued, I would end up with a brick as Durham suggested.
Finally I flashed he U version, as mad scientist suggested, and up to now it works like a charm.
As Durham advised, I used CSC and not HOME_CSC and the hack was eliminated.
Sim card is recognized, no bloatware and mobile data working.
Let's hope it will continue like this...!!!
Only glitch, not everything is in my home language ( message icon name and in settings-the menu options-any idea how to fix it? - I removed english and left only my language as selection, but onle these remain untranslated)-small problem
I have learned a valuble lesson from my adventure.
Ebay, an organized platfrom may it be, it cannot control each individual's deceivals, so one must be extra wary when buyng from unofficial sources, nomatter good reviews from others...
Thanks again to you all for your help, I would be in serious position right now, if it weren't for you guys.

Galaxy s7 g930p firmware guide

Hello i am new here i have some questions plz.clear my mind issue is i have galaxy s7 g930p when i dial*#1234# it shows AP, CP G930P AND CSC G930F what is this??? I want to update oreo which firmware should i use i am in pakistan and already use os marshmallow
Boot into download mode (Power + Home + Vol Down) and check what model number it says you have there.
Then download the firmware specifically for that model and nothing else.
Thanks for reply... in download mode its shows g930p and also in settings same model name and also back on phone side same but in recovery mode shows g930v
Here is some detail...
In the Downloads mode SM-G930P is displayed,
in the Phone Info also SM-G930P,
in the manufacturer "Samsung / Verizon",
product code "Not Active",
Original CSC code is empty,
CSC firmware code VZW,
active VZW firmware code,
available CSC codes are empty,
SCS country USA / HK,
Bootloader version G930PVPU4APL6,
PDA version G930PXXU1BPIA,
version CSC G930FXXU1BPIA,
radio module version G930PVPU4APL6.
Which model firmware should i download
Download mode is the only value that can't be changed by modifying the firmware, so it's your true model.
The G930P is the US Sprint S7 model running Snapdragon, so you can use any Snapdragon firmware with Odin (G930U/V/T/P) but don't attempt to flash anything Exynos as it will brick your phone (G930F/FD/W8/K)
G930U is the carrier unlocked generic firmware, so the best one to use if you don't want bloat etc.
Thank u so much can i now install latest update of g930u? in odin fill all boxes with g930u files also csc g930fxxu1bpia with g930u file?
Thank you so much sm-g930u firmware with oreo now working in my sm-g930p no any issue here thanks

I need help to identify the correct firmware for my S7 (SM-G930F)

I bought a new S7 (G930F) at ebay. When it arrived i wanted to update to the newest firmware, but i got an error notification.
I contacted Samsung and they told me to send it in.
They checked it and told me, that they are not willing to help because the phone is flashed with a wrong firmware. I bought it as a new device. This is unpleasant.
The seller doesn't answer my messages, so i thought maybe i can flash a new firmware by myself. The actual firmware is working but it is outdated. (1. August 2018)
But how can i find out which firmware is correct for this phone? How to say if it is exynos or snapdragon?
The phone information
Modellnummer: SM-930F
Seriennummer: 5AF94C0C
Buildnummer: R16NW.G930FFXXU7CRH2
Kernel: 3.18.71-14274519 [email protected] #1
Basisband: G930FFXXU7CRH2
Android 8.0.0
Samsung Experience: 9.0
I would like to flash the latest firmware and i want to use the phone in germany. Can somebody identify the correct firmware?
Thanks a lot
What does the phone say in download mode? The ROM can be modified to lie about the model and firmware, but download mode will tell you the truth.
If download mode says it's a G930F then it's Exynos, if it says G930U/V/T/A then it's Snapdragon.
If it is a G930F then good news is you can just flash whatever G930F firmware you want over top what's on it. If it's Snapdragon then you're a bit stuffed, you can't flash Exynos firmware onto Snapdragon.
For updating it if it is G930F my recommendation would be to find out the region code for your device, e.g. from here https://updato.com/firmware-archive...act=1&r=DBT,XEG,DCO,DDE,VIA,DTM,VD2&v=&rpp=15 then download the firmware using that region code with SamFirm tool https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Download Mode says SM-G930V
I'm doomed
Yep that's a common scam. If you can't return to seller the next best thing would be to flash the G930U firmware, which is the generic unlocked firmware for Snapdragon.
It won't give you the equivalent experience, but it will remove any bloat and give you a carrier unlocked phone experience.
You can use the same methods I mentioned to get your hands on the latest G930U firmware and update the device, but you may need this specific Odin version to flash G930U over G930V https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572
Thanks. Does TMK, TFN, TMB,... make a difference when the phone is used in germany?
Should i flash all 5 files:?:
AP
BL
CP
CSC
Home
I tried and my result is: Flashing only AP was not enough. Flashing all 5 worked fine for me. I chose TMK and even LTE is working. Thanks a lot.
Glad its working, for reference CSC and Home_CSC are both CSC files and you usually pick just one. Home_CSC doesn't do a data wipe, CSC does.
But when changing from G930V to G930U it's always safest to do the CSC wipe.

Question I have an unlocked AT&T Galaxy S21+ outside of the US. If I flash a different firmware(USA - USC) with a different CSC, will I be able to receive OTA

Hello, I would like to preface this by saying that I don't actually live in the US. I got this used unlocked AT&T Galaxy S21+ a few months back and an issue I noticed after using it for a while was the fact I was not receiving any OTA updates due to the fact I was not using an AT&T SIM card.
Now I want to switch AT&T to carrier-free firmware where I will be able to get regular OTA updates automatically
My current specs:
Model: SM-G996U
chip: Snapdragon 888
Baseband version : G996USQU1ATLF
CSC : G996UOYN1ATLF
AP/CP : G996USQU1ATLF
Is it suitable for installation?
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/g.../SM-G996U/USC/download/G996USQU5CVDB/1640229/
N.B/: May doing this flash will brick or damage my phone?
On SamMobile, underneath my device model, there list of several firmware labeled with different US carriers. As long as the firmware I flash is under the model number I have (SM-G996U), nothing should break, right?
Please suggest me firmware. I want to get rid of carrier barrier and want to get regular updates automatically safely.
Did you try the rom? I have the same problem
OTA is CSC based. You'd have to use Samkey to unlock the CSC to a unlocked US one.
Flash the u1 xaa firmware. Works on my phone in canada
I have a similar issue!
So I received a refurbished S21+, it is unlocked and all but it has AT&T bloatware and I can't update to oneui 5.0... I live in italy but this phone comes from Germany and apparently has a US AT&T firmware (SM-G996U-OYN-ATT). I was following a tutorial with odin to flash to SM-G996B with ITV, which is the italian version with android 12 and oneui 4.1.1 is it safe to do so and then get the android 13 update the standard way? Could I straight up get android 13 and oneui 5 flashing the most recent rom or is it even worse?
The other solution I thought about is that I could just get the U1 XAA, but i have U for now and I don't quite understand if it's completely risk free or not.
