Hey, I m facing problem of nexus 5 black screen issue it turns on but nothing shows on display...(display tested works, and flex cable also replaced)
Can anyone help in this??
There is no display in fastboot mode either?
If you are sure the display connecting cables work, sounds like a motherboard problem.
I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but I thought it would be easier to post in here since I seem to be having a similar issue. I can't figure out if it is software-related or hardware-related.
I recently updated my Nexus 5 to Lineage OS 14.1 (11/7/17) and my screen began glitching. After an indeterminate length of time, my screen starts bugging out - the touchscreen won't register any touches, pixels get glitched and then it usually goes black. Sometimes the display will reset itself, and other times it will stay just black. Now the odd thing is if I force a reset by holding the power button down, I can get it to reboot and usually it fixes the issue... briefly. I've noticed sometimes however that even the boot animations will glitch out too, but by the time it gets to my home screen it's just fine, again for an indeterminate amount of time
The phone was bought used from Swappa probably almost a year ago now. Worked great up until now, I'm sure it's been dropped before both by me and the previous owner, but the screen itself from the outside doesn't show any signs of damage (No cracks, scratches).
I've since gone back to an early October build of LOS14.1 that wasn't giving me any issues like this, but I'm still getting them. So I'm leaning towards it being a very odd hardware issue or maybe I need to Factory Reset and dirty flashing updates is catching up to me.

Was at about 30% battery and the screen froze as in it wouldn't take any touch events. The backlight would react as if the screen wasn't touched. It seems like the touch events just were not registering but the phone worked in the background. Kernel issue maybe? I have been using faux.
Something similar ....
I had a similar experience on the 15th .... took my N5 off the Qi charger and the screen froze when i tried to unlock it.
I hit the power button and was able to unlock and get a few touches in before it froze again.
I was finally able (after much screen off/on cycles) to get down to the developer options and turn on show touches & show cpu usage.
... background processes looked fairly normal when the screen was frozen(touches showed as frozen) ...
I was rooted, stock rom except for xda user Jishnu Sur's N5 camera mod and running a couple tried & true root apps(Stickmount & QuickBoot). Thought some software issue might be jamming up the digitizer i/o causing it to freeze.
Reverted entirely to stock (the Team Win recovery was also experiencing screen freeze - buttons worked fine) including removing TRWP and re-locking the boot loader!!
The screen freezing problem persists ... my conclusion is that it's a hardware issue. :crying:
It's possible you are seeing the same thing, but I haven't seen anything in the forums to indicate it's a widespread problem.
Returning it for a replacement phone ... :fingers-crossed:
Hi,
same problem here from France.
I already returned a Nexus 5, after multiple freeze I tried to format data partition via bootloader, (no rooted phone, following google instructions for stock reset) then the phone crash wile formatting, it never wake up gain.
When I get a new one from google after one or two week same problem appears, and it's append more and more often, since monday my phone crash one time more every night, and all the day today.
A this time I'm still trying to load it sine I came back from work seven hour ago, battery still at 49%.
I think it's and hardware issue too.
I'm very disappointed about Google and I'll never by anymore LG products.
Thanks for reading.

Freezes tend to happen on custom kernels specially if you under-volt it too much. have you done that?

Last week I had the same problem with my new NEXUS 5. IT’S TOTALLY A HARDWARE ISSUE.
LG products are however not so bad in the JAPAN market but still we are expecting a lot from LG technology.
LG services suck.
I am facing the same problem with my Nexus 5. Unrooted, bought 7 months back from India itself, was working fine till around two weeks back, when the lags, screen freeze, blacking out n all appeared. Got it repaired twice at the LG centre. They changed the front display touchpad as well as the charging connector strip. The problem still persists.
I received my XT926 as a refurb and I have been experiencing a strange screen issue.
I will often have my phone on a dock, charging and sometimes I will notice the screen is black like it's off, but the touchscreen is responsive. Hitting the power button does nothing but it makes the sound as if I had locked the phone. Hitting the power button a second time will turn the screen on like normal operation.
Very rarely I have noticed the screen will turn off while I'm actually using the phone and it's a weird effect. The easiest way to describe it is that it looks like entire lines disappearing randomly over a period of 1-2 seconds, going from all visible, then to all black, kind of like slatted blinds being closed, but at random. After this, it displays the same symptoms as if I had found the screen off while in a dock/charging.
Now, I don't want to say it's related, but I first started experiencing this on the Stock KitKat update from Verizon. I am currently using Cyanogenmod 12 nightlies and I am experiencing the same issue. It seems to be happening with greater frequency.
I have also experienced the blue screen effect when certain animations/elements/apps are up on my screen, but I think they are unrelated.
Also, there is a faint discoloration bar about 2/5ths of an inch thick uniformly vertically from top to bottom of my phone on the righthand side (just under where the notification bar would be if turned horizontal).
I've tried to find more information about this but my search results have been relatively lackluster (90% of the results are trying to sell me the phone or specification pages)
So I'm breaking down and turning to here. Does anyone know what's going on here? My current theory is that my screen is going bad. I have no intention of replacing the screen on this phone (would rather just buy a new one), so any suggestions that don't involve physical hardware repairs would be appreciated.
I thought i was the only one experiencing it.
The screen turning off with a weird effect happens rarely but yeah it happens. And the blue screen effect, i noticed it only happens when im on the youtube app when the video stops working because of my connectivity issues.
Im not rooted nor is my bootloader unlocked. On the latest system version. Sounds like a software problem but hey im no expert.

i also have this with my referb i made moto give me my money back and they let me keep the phone for me it was very rare but my new phone also had a really bad screen all yellowish and bad white balance in low light if you are unhappy with it call them and say you are unhappy with the replacement here is the white glove number 800-653-7185 they are more understanding and nice but you may lose you ability to unlock your bootloader on the new phone if it comes with the latest software just a warning
I have that screen off with lines slowly disappearing thing, too And, yeah, it's also a refurbished one, bought from one of the sellers on aliexpress... I thought Lollipop was the culprit or something like that. Oh, well... It rarely happens. And luckily I only have that, not the second issue you mentioned
I am having this exact same issue. The weird lines-to-black screen thing, and the flickering blue screen when watching video. Are you saying the solution is to call Motorola and ask for a new phone?
The blue flickering can be prevented by going into Developer Options and checking "Disable HW Overlays".
The discolored stripe on the screen sounds like burn-in; these AMOLED screens are much more susceptible to burn-in than the LCD screens used in older phones. Whomever owned the phone before it was returned to Motorola probably had something running on their screen continuously with a bright-colored bar at the top, likely in a car or desk dock. The screen is very easy to replace yourself with an eBay part, if you're inclined; it involves 2 screws and 2 connectors.
I've seen the lines-to-black thing exactly twice since I got this phone refurb two months ago. Sorry, I don't know what causes it or how to avoid it, but the workaround is quick and simple enough that I'm not worried about it, yet.
Hello all! Some time ago my nexus 5 started to have some issues with the microphone and a couple of days after it stopped working. I searched how people generally fix it because I have no warranty and I didn't want to spend much money giving someone to fix it or even get another phone. So what I did was I open the motherboard plastic protection and put a tape (a bit thick) right below the camera (above the battery) to make some pressure on the mic connection. I closed it, closed the phone, turned it on and the mic was working again. So far so good.
Then I noticed that out of nowhere the screen went black and if I pressed the power button it would give only black light. After some research again I noticed that it wasn't the LCD problem because if I rebooted the phone (power button + volume down) it would work perfectly, but after some time it'd go black again. Sometimes it even makes weird colors, grey orange and some lines (like broken screen) and then goes full black.
I already factory reseted the phone but the poblem still persists. I wonder if it has something to do with the battery (maybe should get a new one) or with some hardware connections. What makes me think that isn't a hardware problem is because it always works during some time when I reboot it. But ofc im not 100% sure because it looks like this happened a little while after the mic fix.
I saw someone talking about memory cache wipe could fix this. I did try this recently but I don't think this could be the problem and this is why: Some moments ago I tried to reboot it to make the screen work again but this time the reboot didn't work. It started to give those weird colors and lines. So I connected it to the charger, waited a bit, tried to reboot again and it worked. The screen is now temporarely on and working what makes me think even more that it could be battery's fault.
I hope I explained everything well if you have any doubt please do ask. I'm just trying to know exactly what the problem is so I don't waste time and money fixing actually non problematic parts.
Thank you.
PS: Before I got the phone like 2 months ago, it was used for almost a year by a family member.
I bought an Xperia XZs from a website called DWI Digital Cameras about a year ago (they've closed down recently due to the new GST regulations). I've had this issue since the day I received it and I thought it wasn't that big of a deal at the time, but it's gotten to a really bad point now.
The issue is that very often when I try to wake up the phone (like almost half the time) the screen does not display anything while the backlight turns on. The backlight might also flash multiple times as if it's trying to get the rest of the screen to wake up. This issue would usually go away for a bit if I either tried to open a camera app from the lockscreen (via double-pressing the power button) or rebooted the phone - the backlight would turn on and off a few times and the rest of the screen would temporarily work again. But now, it seems to be not working no matter what I try.
I'm pretty sure that there's nothing wrong with the screen itself, I even got it replaced once after I accidentally dropped and shattered it and the issue still did not go away. The issue also persists no matter what ROM I have installed as well.
Any experts on this? Cheers.
I have had this phone for one week and unfortunately have a problem with the small display on the cover. The display intermittently crashes and you are no longer able to see the time, charge status, signal strength, or any notifications without restarting the phone. Interestingly the crash does not affect the display of charging info when it is on the wireless charger. I am working with Samsung to get this resolved and they have assured me that they will replace the phone if necessary. So far they have tried wiping the cache, and having it re-imaged at one of their authorized repair sites with no success. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this issue or have an idea about what could be causing it. BTW...... I really love this phone otherwise.

I have observed the same issue. I've noticed that it recovers eventually but it is annoying as well. I called the premier service but they have not acknowledged it is a software bug yet. They had me factory reset but I am still observing the same.
I can also confirm it is not due to the case they ship with, nor the leather case, or finger grime that may be conflicting with the capacitive sensor. The rest of the phone knows the main screen is closed. My suspicion (speculation) is that it is the software as the cover display is really the only new hardware portion, in regards to most of the components from S10 parts bin, or Fold screen tech which has been pretty mature from a design standpoint.
Love the phone, hope they they can resolve this in an update sooner or later. Please let us know if its common to all.
Thanks.
I have the same issue. Been using the phone for about 12 days and the cover screen goes bonkers. It will appear some time but only clock and battery life, can't use it for notifications nor calls nor selfie camera. Plus open phone to answer is not functioning
This is my second Z-Flip - had the original one on release day and now the 5g version. Yesterday, out of nowhere (for the first time on either phone) the cover screen went blank. It works still (I can change songs and answer calls, for example) but the screen is black. This is 100% a software issue. Called Samsung 'premier' which puts you in the line for normal support, when they pick up they transfer you to premier (makes no sense). They suggest a factory reset. Odd thing is 2 calls today actually showed on the display. No rhyme or reason. I have tried powering down, restart, and safe mode. Very frustrating.
I'm also having this issue, I had a different issue in the past where the phone would not recognise when it was opened or closed and just behaved like a regular smartphone with screen on off. The cover screen also came on at the same time as the main screen so basically the phone thought both were one display.
This time I am getting the issue as above, the screen is black, pressing power does not bring it up (always, sometimes it will randomly show and I can use it, before a factory reset I just did it wouldn't be functional as touch only worked halfway, I could drag it left or right but it would just stay where it was, thinking my finger was still on it.) if I press the power repeatedly sometimes it shows, sometimes it shows offset so only half the display lights up and has moved everything to that side and cropped it. It's completely a software bug, my phone has no scratches or dents and is in great condition. It's a newish model as my original Z Flip got replaced by my network by a 5G model.
