Anyone know what the price is going to be without contract?
I contacted an AT&T retail store and they didn't really know, but had read that Samsung posted $350 dollars on facebook. That seems low to me.
I haven't seen any pricing for non-commitment anywhere. Thanks!
+1
I would also want to know, because I'm planning on buying it with no contract.

AT&T Hi Mark - the Captivate is $199.99 w/ contract, and $349.99 without.

Hopefully this is the actual price since a few people are able to confirm it with a few AT&T reps.
OMG if this is the price for the phone I am definitely getting this phone off contract and using my upgrade for another phone aka iPhone 4 to sell for a profit!!!!!!!!!!

$700+ on ebay!!!!!
I had my iPhone 4 since it came out (16 gb) and used it the whole time.
I just put it on craigslist and sold it for 600 in less than a day.
Now, I have money for the captivate!!!
What kind of fees would AT&T charge you for the switch? If it really is $350, I'll do the same
Yes! The price is $350 without contract! That's very nice, I'll check tomorrow my local AT&T store to see if they have any in stock already as some people already bought it.
I'd love to go get one tomorrow, but I go to an authorized retailer and there is one person in particular that I deal with. She's always treated me well, and they are a lot nicer than AT&T retail stores. She is out of town until monday I guess I'll be waiting for my phone 'til then.
The one thing I know nothing about is how to load custom roms, as this is my first open source phone! (first had symbian, then iOS) I am excited to see what else is out there.
If its only $350. I'll be buying this Phone off Contract ASAP.
Even tought i wanted an HTC or Motorola. Device ie nexus one, desire. This will do, since my G1 keeps overheating and is on its last legs.
There's people been buying them since yesterday for $350 off contract, so the pricing is real.
wow $350?!...hard to believe really when the tmo version is $499.
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Cell-Phone-Detail.aspx?cell-phone=Samsung-Vibrant
wait and see 3 more days...
I just returned from AT&T here they let me handle the phone. He showed me the price of the off contract phone as $300.00. He was shocked, but it was right there in living color. They will sell me one this Saturday morning. I will be there.

If this pricing is the same here in Arizona Ill be posting my HD2 for sale, use that money to buy a Captivate, and use my phone upgrade for an Iphone4, turn around and sell that beast as well.. Should come out wayyyyyyyyyyyy on top. Good god what a good deal. Thank you AT&T for getting something right.
Good luck to all who seem to be going down this cash flow road. Wooooop!
@willthebill - I am surprised that the Captivate is going to be 350 when the one for t-mobile is 500 as well! I am quite excited about it!

Samsung is first to offer Windows Rt
http://www.knowyourmobile.com/blog/1613638/windows_rt_samsung_ativ_tab_up_for_preorder.html
Sending from HTC Radar
That's a fair chunk more than I was hoping.
This in my opinion is MS's last chance to get a slice of the mobile market with their W8 Eco system.
With their partners charging that much, I don't hold up much hope.
I was in hopes, RT would be a touch lower in price. Seeing this amount does take some of my excitement away!!!!!
It has me on a rethink........
Maybe my best option is to snag a used W500 tablet and upgrade the O/S to Win8. Use the money I save to buy a pocket battery extender for use on long trips.
Sent from my HTC Radar at work, on company time and WiFi =)

I look forward to see the price of the Surface
Those aren't going to sell at that price.
I saw they'll be asking $650 ($750 with keyboard without battery) for the Atom version.

holy crap you're so right!
I hope someone shoe horns Linux or Mac is onto these things, and directly after there is a fire sale ... then ill get one.
they really screwed themselves with pricing.
I'm seriously considering an Atom version right now since I don't think I'll need a Core CPU.
I haven't seen a Surface Atom version mentioned, but I hope they will exist since I think the form factor is pretty sweet.
The next few weeks should be pretty interesting, once reviews/prices/comparisons are released.

the two posts directly above mine that you quoted also were a little surprised at the price. after a little thought, it would be a very good idea to only sell these wp8/surface devices in the Microsoft stores: customers won't be able to see the 1/4 priced droid tablets or 2/3 prices I pads ( that everyone thinks is the second coming) and limit the leaching to other platforms.

ahhhh, ok, I see where you're going. no interest, sorry.
we'll see fairly soon how consumers feel about the pricing. the hardware is g r e a t, so I doubt that will be any reason for poor sales. pricing is sooooo cut throat in tab markets.
I just observed used Nexus 5 being sold for about $35 less than new within countries which have plenty of stock. Is this the "one born every minute" or something else?
example of used $350
and example of new $385
With OnePlus out in a few weeks for $349 plus unknown on tax and postage, and a few other low-priced unlocked handsets out there, I'm puzzled why Nexus 5 is holding its used price, and its coming under attack on its new price.
Because it's a great phone. Oneplus one may be too big for some. Plus it's a true developers phone. No one knows what the oneplus one sources / blobs for drivers will be like...

I avoid devices for a couple of months to let bugs discovered and resolved.
But that wasn't my question, i don't understand why someone would buy used for 90% of new? It's not like stock is hard to get new.

its new price is fairly cheap, and its used price is competitive with other phones because its as good as or better than the other phones.

90% is cheaper than 100%. Not everyone is as fortunate as you to be able to pay 100%
"but it's only $35"
Someone could feed themselves for a week on that. Don't make the mistake of confusing being frugal with being dumb, or that everyone is the same as you

If they're starving they can do with a cheaper Nexus 4 for months.
Warranty is part of frugality, if my new N5 breaks I got some postage costs probably, but I'm less exposed financially than I am with used.
Well luckily for them, it's not your decision what they do with their money
Some people don't care about warranty. Some people know how to use warranty. It's not a problem for them, it's not a problem for you so don't worry yourself about people being "dumb". If you're asking "why isn't everyone like me?", well that's a philosophical question, probably better angled towards facebook

Because the phone is worth a lot more than $350 to most people. Similar phones cost $700 and the Oneplus isn't even being sold really.
Also countries that don't have the Play Store devices, their only choice is to buy them second hand and they are willing to pay as much as the retail cost.
One word answer: demand.

I agree plus we don't know the potential scare story inside the OnePlus for at least month, it needs bulk ownership first from those who have another device already as their main phone.

Those living in other countries buy our used phones. $350 for a used N5 is still half the price they would pay for a new phone in their country.
Anyone living in North America can buy the phone for $350 new and have no incentive to buy it used for that price.

What makes you think people in the US are buying them used for more than they cost new? I would just assume they are all out of seas, but there is no real way of telling. Or is there?
If they are, they must not realize they can buy it new for the same price from Google. Or perhaps they are attempting a scam of some sort.

Even in the USA, sometimes it takes a while to get. And beyond that, it's still cheaper than any other alternatives, and some people prefer it to be cheaper. If it's 10% cheaper than retail, then that's still 10% they save.

If you've ever been to an electronics market in certain parts of Asia, you'll be familiar with iPhone knockoffs running Android. Within weeks of a new Apple device, you can get a gray market iPhone lookalike running Android Jelly Bean or something, for a third of the cost of the real thing. But we never thought we'd see a 'real' manufacturer take this approach. Until now
If I were living under a rock, and came across the One A9 on holiday, I would absolutely believe it was a gray market ripoff. I can just imagine coming home to tell my friends, “Hey, check out the fake HTC iPhone I bought,” only to be informed HTC itself actually put it out.
We can lay some blame for this odd decision on the exodus of HTC designers – Scott Croyle in 2014, and Jonah Becker in 2015 – and presume the design department at HTC is full of empty desks following their departure. Or we could put it down to a last-ditch effort to get someone, anyone, to buy an HTC device.
But what if this is actually the best decision HTC has made in a long time?
Exactly! The fact that it comes from HTC! HTC POSSIBLY THE MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANY EVER! Or should I say was. I think HTC has absolutely NO idea what they are actually doing at the moment. Every time they make decisions that are even worse than before. Like the don't even care about user feedback! They are becoming the 2nd Nintendo I could say. I really hope Sony won't end like this too because they actually know what they are doing!
despite the positive reviews ive seen im skeptical about buying. i don't do preorders and ive been burned too many times by false reviews. the device does look pretty nice though.

I've mentioned this in another thread before if you're interested in the device and don't pre-order it will cost you an extra $100 on November 7th. which is the end of the promotional pricing. HTC offers a 30 day no questions asked money back guarantee why not take them up on their offer? You can always send it back if it doesn't suit you!

Thought I had replied to this thread. Weird.
Any way, Best Buy is sometimes known to throw a page up with an inflated price until they get the official price for it. I'm hoping that's the case this time too. Especially since Sprint doesn't even have a page for this phone that I can find let alone a price.
Otherwise, $900 is way too much for this phone and I won't be getting it. Even $800 is a bit much.

Yeah I think they did this with the LG G5 too before that was released earlier this year. Also, Sprint is going to be doing a promotion where you can trade in any smartphone with mopre than 10$ in trade in value for 200$ in credit, although that might only be for if you get the phone in an easy pay or lease option and not a full buyout thing.
I am waiting on T-Mobile for their page to go live for pre-order. If the price is that same as on the other carriers, I will have to stick with my V10 or try out the Axon 7 til the price drops below $650.
Also, if the carrier doesn't offer the B&O headphones ... I will have to pass.

It is already confirmed that LG is offering pre-orders in the US a pair of the H3's. As far as I can tell, they haven't really excluded any major carriers on the offer. Not sure if those who don't pre-order will get them or not. I assume "quantities are limited". So you either have to bite the bullet and get in on the pre-order if the headphones are important to you or wait for the price to drop and forgo them if price is more important. Hopefully the price won't be so bad though. I have heard Tmo pre-orders could open on the 12th (already passed though), 14th, 17th or 20th.

Well, we don't have an actual MSRP from any other carrier yet besides AT&T. There's still a slight chance that the other carriers could undercut AT&T. Hopefully. The only place I hear about QA/QC problems with LG is in hardcore Android forums and it only really seems to be a few very vocal people. Certainly, I'll keep my eyes open but I'm willing to ride the odds in favor of no issues. But if Sprint can't put the phone in with the rest of their phones when they have the iPhone plastered everywhere on their site, they'll never sell it then wonder why. Then again, having met the Sprint CEO in the very bar I'm sitting in right now, I'm not surprised. Doesn't seem any carrier is really trying all that hard though. AT&T has their demo model off in another corner away from the other LG phones in the stores I visited. T-Mobile has it listed on their site with the other LG phones but that's about all of the exposure it gets from them at the moment. The reps are definitely psyched for this phone though.
