Trying to disable built in calendar and clock - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

I am Trying to disable built in calendar and clock so that I can use the google calendar from play store and the google clock from play store
I tried to follow these instructions:
Code:
Honor have replaced the stock Calendar app with their own, however Google Calendar can be installed from the Play Store. The Honor Calendar app is not un-installable or disableable, however using adb access from a computer, there is another solution.
The process
From the Play Store, install 'Google Calendar'.
On your device, enable USB debugging by tapping on the 'Build Number' in 'Settings' -> 'About' multiple times, then from the newly visible development menu, clicking the 'USB Debugging' checkbox.
On your computer, from a command prompt / terminal, run the command 'adb shell' - accept the security prompt on your device.
Run the command 'pm hide com.android.calendar'.
But I got an error:
HWBLN-H:/ $ pm hide com.android.calendar
Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.

Thanks. I was trying not to root it but I finally realize that there are just too many limitations and problems when you do not have ROOT.
I will root it now

You won't regret that, be sure. I suggest you to use Titanium Backup for trying to remove those apps, o didn't tried personally but it should do the work

[SOLVED] UPDATE Bypass Mobileiron and Root Detection ICS, JellyBean

Disclaimer: This is for testing purposes only. I do not condone breaking company policy, or breaking any laws. I am not responsible for you getting fired as a result of you making these modifications. You should always read and abide by company policies and any laws pertaining to such modifications. Use of this tutorial is at your own risk.
Preface: I have tested the new method on multiple devices and it has been flawless so far.
UPDATE: I have found a new method that so far has been flawless across multiple devices so far for me. With this new method you won't even have MobileIron installed when you're done! I have tested this on my Galaxy Nexus, My Nexus 7 and my Galaxy Note II and believe it should work regardless of device. Your company may have different security policies than mine so it's possible this may not work for you.
The easiest way to do this is with one of mskip's toolkits, but it can also be done manually with adb (must have the latest sdk).
Toolkit Method
0. Make sure you have MobileIron and Touchdown installed, configured and syncing. Your phone does NOT have to be rooted to do this.
1. Download mskip's Toolkit Here and install.
2. Make sure you have the adb drivers for your phone installed on your computer and android debugging is turned on in the developer settings on your phone.
3. Open the toolkit and connect your phone to your computer
4. It shouldn't matter what model phone you choose for the purpose of what we're doing, and the options may be slightly different based on which toolkit you download
5. Choose the option backup and restore your device
6. Choose backup all installed apps
7. Choose do NOT include system apps in the backup
8. Choose backup apk's AND respective app data
9. Choose do NOT back up internal storage data in backup
10. Wake your phone and it will ask you to start the backup, choose to do so
Once it is finished you will need to wipe your phone. It may work without wiping and just uninstalling touchdown and Mobileiron before proceeding to the next section, but I haven't tested this.
11. Connect your phone to your computer and enable android debugging
12. Browse to C:\Galaxy Nexus Toolkit (or whatever the name of your toolkit is under c:\)
13. Open the folder backups and rename the backup file to backup.bak. (if you don't see the file extension just name it backup)
14. Open the toolkit and choose a model
15. Choose Backup and Restore
16. Choose Restore apps from a backup file
17. type backup.bak and press enter
18. Wake your phone and choose to begin the restore
19. When it's finished, uninstall mobileiron, open touchdown and see if it's syncs!
ADB Method
adb backup -all -system -shared -apk
recovery> backup, wipe, flash rom, flash gapps, reboot
adb restore backup.ab
Requirements For ICS:
1. Rooted Android Phone running ICS based ROM
2. Titanium Backup (app installed)
3. Hide my Root (app installed)
4. Mobileiron (app installed but never run)
5. Touchdown (app installed but never run)
Instructions for ICS:
0. Make a Nandroid backup
1. Open Hide my Root
2. Choose hide SU binary
3. Press home
4. Menu, settings, apps, all apps
5. Choose Superuser.apk
6. Choose disable
7. Now open mobileiron and configure the settings per your company's instruction.
8. Set up your email in the Touchdown application and let it sync everything.
9. Open Hide my Root and choose restore SU Binary
10. Go back to menu, settings, apps, superser.apk and choose enable. (Its at the bottom when disabled)
11. Open Titanium Backup
12. Choose backup/restore from the top
13. Scroll to Mobileiron and tap it and choose freeze.
14. Profit
Now restore your nandroid backup before you get in trouble.
**Update** for Jelly Bean
It seems the builds out there for Jelly Bean use a new version of SuperUser that as of yet isn't compatible with Hide My Root. I wrote the developer of Hide My Root and he is looking into this but currently doesn't have a device running Jelly Bean to test on, so I took it upon myself to figure this out once again. I tested this and it does work. Again this was tested on a VZW Galaxy Nexus only.
Instructions for Jelly Bean:
0. Make a Nandroid backup!
1. Download MobileIron (App installed but never run)
2. Download Touchdown (or any apps that depend on MobileIron and do not launch them)
3. Download Titanium Backup (You may need the premium version to freeze apps)
4. Download SuperSU flashable zip from HERE and place on your SDcard.
5. From the app drawer launch SuperSU (that app already installed, not the zip you just downloaded)
7. Swipe 2 screens to the right to Settings
8. Choose Full unroot.
9. Install and configure MobileIron and dependent apps and let them fully sync.
10. Enable Airplane Mode
11. Reboot to recovery and flash the SuperSU zip you downloaded
12. Boot into Android, open Titanium Backup and freeze MobileIron
13. Turn off Airplane Mode
14. Profit
Now restore your nandroid backup before you get in trouble.
After a reboot all of the lockscreen options will reappear allowing you to have an insecure lockscreen.
This is great
You just saved me hours of frustration.
Thanks!
Thanks - this is a huge help!!
Question: does this work only with Touchdown, or any Android email client? (I prefer the app Enhanced Email).

How to re-enable superuser?
Made a nandroid backup. Followed instructions below. Works great, now I can synch email with MobileIron fortified corp server AND change the PIN lock requirement that MobileIron required! Thank you
Only one issue: I couldn't complete step 10 ("Go back to menu, settings, apps, superser.apk and choose enable"). Superuser was no longer in the "All" list under menu, settings, apps. As a result, I seem to have lost the ability to grant root access to new applications.
QUESTION: How do I re-enable superuser?
Notes:
- ADB: I can connect to device via ADB, but if I type "adb shell", and then type "su" at the "sh-3.2#" promot, no $ access is granted).
- Terminal Emulator: TE cannot get root (I type "su" at the "sh-3.2$" command, and TE says "Permission denied")
- Root Access - Old Apps: Any apps that previously had root privileges still do (Root Explorer can navigate to "/" and enable "Mount R/W", Wifi Tether still works, etc).
- Root Access - New Apps: New apps requiring root are not able to get root (no superuser prompt comes up)
- Re-Installing Superuser.apk: I tried using root installer to re-install superuser.apk (in the "/system/app" directory). It said it installed successfully, but still no superuser in the "All" list under menu, settings, apps.
- Re-Rooting: I tried re-rooting (using mskip's exceelend GNEX toolkit HERE), to no avail (process completes, but no superuser access).
If anyone can help me troubleshoot I would be extremely appreciative. I've tried to not be a helpless newb and to try a few fixes (above), but I would be ecstatic if one of XDA's Android ninjas could tell me how to re-enable superuser. Hoping to avoid comments of "restore nandroid backup and give up"

When you disable superuser.apk in the apps list it moves it from the alphabetical order to the bottom of the apps list. Look there and see if its at the bottom of your apps list.

YOU ARE THE MAN.
That was so simple, but I spent an hour trying stuff and still missed it
My Android experience is back to awesome despite Mobile Iron - THANK YOU!!!!
Thanks for that. Great idea.
I followed your instructions but I had to switch 9 and 10 because Hide my root cannot restore a deactivated app.
But my TouchDown says "Synchronization Error" --> access denied (update your password). Maybe too strong policies?
And by the way: you have to use tintanium backup PRO to enable or disable apps
---------------------
Edit: I made a system application of "Hide my root" with TI Backup - works. I had to uninstall TI Backup now - currently TouchDown is syncing again. We will see if it works, next: I try to use LBE Privacy Guard... will report. Disabling "MobileIron" seems not working for me...
Hey, is not possible solve it on 2.X version of Andriod? Thanks...

OP updated for JB instructions.
Sorry, I haven't tested this on a 2.x build so I'm not sure. If I get time I'll try to test this for you, I'm just super slammed with projects right now...
Will we appear "normal" on the Server that the app links us to our Corp acct??
Yes, you will appear as a non rooted phone. I just updated the JB instructions again. Realized I left out a step.
Anyone test this for Airwatch yet?
FWIW.....my experience has shown this to be merely a temporary solution, by itself. Yes...following the JB instructions will allow you to sync up just fine. But.....when mobileiron does not report back as device administrator, the red flags go up. My solution, thus far, has been to suspend root access on the phone, after reactivating mobileiron. In my case, after re-activating mobileiron, the app, itself, now FC's, which may be helping me out....not sure. At this point I seem to be able to continue remaining synced, without root access. As long as I use airplane mode before enabling root access to do root-type stuff, I seem to be fine. Word of caution, though....disabling root, seems screw up TB when I re-enable root. Specificaly...even though I have TB pro, it does not register after re-enabling root, so freezing and unfreezing mobileiron at will has not been possible. Could just be my system though.I recommend using airplane mode liberally if there is any doubt regarding your recognized root/non-root status. This definitely changes how I use the device, though, for sure.

I run your CM10 build on my nex7 and love it. Great to have navbar mods.
On my nex7 it took me a few tries to get it to stick but I finally got it. I hadn't updated a nightly for a couple weeks and when I did Mobileiron got me. I decided I don't care about getting work email on my tablet as much as I do my phone so no big deal. I freaking hate Mobileiron and touchdown nearly as bad.
On my galaxy nexus (running fitsnugly cm10) I don't have any issues. I flash the nightlies every day and I've gone a couple months without Mobileiron flagging me.

Skanklove!
I was completely under the radar, due to some corporate user configs, until I screwed up and raised the red flag. Then I had to encrypt, and install mobileiron. I was perfectly happy with touchdown until mobileiron got involved. I don't want work email on any device other than my work phone (toro). I can still run email without mobileiron, but no activesync and no email attachments......meh
Steps on ICS
Hello,
I am new to using mobileiron, as my corporation just started to use this program. Can I use your steps on ICS and keep my root undetected or will I eventually have issues. Last question, why is it necessary to restore your nandroid backup at the end?

I need help with deleting software

So some apps I was able to disable bit the app manager doesn't give me the option to uninstall them and sometimes they will start running again.
Example AASA servies,All-State file share, ANT +DUT, Bluetooth MIDI Service, I have quite a few.
try uninstaller app, or clean master (there's an option to remove unnecessary app)
cleaner app may help, if not, try Avast cleanup and boost (I'm using Clean master Boost and App lock, it's quite good)
those are system apps, you cant just uninstall them. you need root, then you can. using root spps thst can, or just using a root file explorer, just ling oressing then pressing delete
If you are rooted, don't uninstall any system apps without knowing what r u doing .Because uninstalling some system apps may cause your system unstable.
A difficult but perfect solution! Always works
First root your device(there are multiple tutorials available about how to root your device, it is lengthy but work all the time).
Install android sdk on your pc.
Connect your PC with android phone.
You have to turn on USB debugging mode on your phone(This can be done by going to settings>> About Phone>>Tap Build Number multiple times to see the Developer options>>After opening Developer Options, You can see the USB Debugging).
Launch ADB.exe on your PC(from default SDK position). Mine is installed in E:\android-sdk.
Click the Up+Shift button and right click, it will open the Command menu in the current location.
Type Adb Shell, it will start MS DOS for your device, then type cd system/app (it will open the applications) and then type ls (to see installed apps).
Now use rm appneedtoberemoved.apk to remove the desired app

[ROOT] [Discussion] Safe-to-remove System Bloatware/Googleware

Since there's no thread related to safe-to-remove system bloatware/googleware, I decided to make one.
I'm counting on your help to expand this list.
Tested
Chrome
Alternatives: Firefox, Brave, Waterfox.
Or you could simply uninstall it as a system APP and reinstall it as a user APP. There's definitely no need for Chrome to be a system APP.
Contacts
Alternatives: Simple Contacts Pro, fully open-source (paid or free if you download it through F-Droid, but won't get advanced customizations), Contacts+.
I also advise you to remove Google Contacts as a system APP and reinstall it as an user APP if you wish to keep it, there's no reason for Google Contacts to be a system APP.
Gmail
This one actually depends on your email provider, since I don't use gmail at all, I completely uninstalled this.
Also I suggest looking at ProtonMail, it's an email provider mostly focused on user data protection (through strict Swiss data protection laws) and privacy.
Then again, if you wish to keep this APP, I suggest uninstalling it and reinstall it as an user APP.
Digital Wellbeing
If you use this functionality on settings you may want to keep it, I uninstalled it.
Also I noticed that ever since I uninstalled this APP, there's an error on logcat showing that something failed to connect to this APP. However it's just a log, despite that everything seems to be working great.
Google Files/Files Go
If you managed to upgrade from Android 8 to Android 9, you most likely kept the standard system APP "Files", however if you flashed Android 9 from scratch, the standard system APP "Files" becomes hidden, which you may unhide it using this app. (I didn't test it). You can also use FileManager by Xiaomi.
Or if you're like me and prefer open-source APPs, I installed Simple File Manager Pro, it supports root (paid or free if you download it through F-Droid, but won't get advanced customizations) or this free and simple file manager.
If you wish to keep Files Go (Google Files) you can also uninstall is as a system APP and reinstall it as an user APP.
Calendar
At this point there's not much calendar APPs out there with cloud sync support, so I managed to stick to Google Calendar, although I uninstalled it as a system APP and reinstalled it as an user APP. I know I said this countless times but I'm extremely against contributing to Google's currently huge power on user personal data, so I try to be as google-less as possible.
Lens
Don't know what this actually does, but Android 8 didn't have it and I looked it up somewhere and some people said that it was safe to remove, and so far so good.
You can read more about it here.
Google
Safe to remove, however your search box widget becomes pretty useless. I actually don't mind at all, it even switches to dark theme mode.
Action Services
From what I've read, this APP is responsible for the APP suggestions on your All-APPs menu, so you'll get some errors when uninstall this. To avoid the errors you have to deactivate APP suggestions first:
Long Press Home-Screen > Home Settings > Suggestions > Apps (Disable this)
And now you're free to uninstall this.
Photos
Definitely not keeping this one, with cloud storage and such.
Replaced with, once again, Simple Gallery Pro (paid or free if you download it through F-Droid, but won't get advanced customizations). You can also use LeafPic which is also open-source and looks great but I didn't actually test it.
Google Maps
I use this, however I uninstalled as a system APP and reinstalled as an user APP.
I'm currently slowly trying to migrate to Waze even though it was bought by Google.
YouTube
I occasionally use it, so I made it an user APP.
Probably safe-to-remove but not tested
Device Health Services
Does anyone know what this APP is responsible for?
Gboard
I don't use it but I didn't uninstall it because it may be required for first-time password input when turning on the device.
When I switch to another keyboard besides Google or SwiftKey (currently using), there's a popup saying "Note: After a reboot, this app can't start until you unlock your phone.", that's why I didn't uninstall it.
Messages
Unfortunately I don't know any good enough Messaging APP to replace Google Messages.
I know there used to be Silence, it even supported P2P encryption but I think it was discontinued. There's also Textra although not open-source.
Feedback
When trying to uninstall this system APP it's shown that it is a Key module, although I really doubt it really is.

@lbsilva Device Health Services is battery optimisation.
One of the very few useful threads for this device. Bravo! Ideally, once there is a consensus on which packages can be removed without crippling the phone some knowledgeable person should make a script to do the job, either something to flash or a bash + adb to do it from desktop.
I found this .bat file, I think it's reusable with those above but only in Windows.
Wouldnt recommend removing anything to do with qualcomm or networking, be warned.
OP, when you say "remove", do you mean "disable so it can't run", or "completely wipe it off the phone"?
I've got a Blu Life One X3, rooted with TWRP and Magisk. What I describe below is my second attempt to debloat the phone. The first attempt, I just uninstalled unwanted apps from the current user via ADB.
Example:
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 -k com.android.egg
I entered into TWRP Recovery Mode and deleted the /system/app and /system/priv-app directories for the apps I didn't want. Upon booting, the phone went through the boot animation and music jingle, then stopped. I left it overnight, since it was late and I wanted to see if it'd work its way to a full boot. It didn't, so I recovered with the out-of-box Nandroid backup I'd taken.
What's strange is that the phone worked fine when the very same apps were just disabled (during my first attempt), but locked up when those apps were deleted from the phone.
Is there something else I need to edit?

If you are rooted, download titanium backup from playstore and have fun.
For yt Vanced, try clearing the repo cache from magisk's settings and search again. Or search the module here on XDA and add it manually.
Edit: looks like Google screwd things up and made chrome almost a dependency or it's an issue just on my device. On Oreo, Gmail stops working after chrome removal. Looks like Gmail is now dependent of chrome webview, it's crashing when using Android system webview.
Edit 2: nevermind, after updating Android system webview, Gmail app has started working again.
great thread, thanks
I found some apps/services that you've successfully disabled. Just wanna ask if, is this universal? I mean I have realme phone and planning to disable all the same apps/services which you were tried already.
So, this is a pseudo-custom rom you are after, why not use the real thing? I'm assuming this is Android 9 since 10 is a total f**k. Why not use the real thing, a custom rom? I recommend AOSiP Pizza since it's the one I've been using for a long time and it proved solid. The only thing I replaced was gallery with Simple gallery and I use MicroG for what it's worth. This removing stuff from gappsed AOSP is totally ridiculous and counter productive, you do that with Miui and such if you really care about a particular UI but not with plain Android, that's nonsense.
Found this useful tool on git last year.
It allows a lot of nice little things among which uninstall/reinstall/disable/enable system apps and services on demand without root and without passes through adb/fastboot command lines.
And it was tested with Q too.
Also feedback app was safely uninstalled.
Feel free to try it.

Read carefully readme.md and faq before use it.
How can I restore some critical packages under TWRP (MIUI11)? I'm testing limits of what can I delete without bricking it and reinstalling ROM every time after that is very tiresome (boot into recovery, wipe cache and data, reinstall MIUI, boot into system, remove tested apps, then restore settings and try again).
There has to be a proper way to restore some app like, for example, com.xiaomi.finddevice

Magisk + terminal debloater.
If you break it, use TWRP to fix.
Look under /data/adb/modules/terminal_debloater.

Yeah, I have debloater but I'm talking about doing it under TWRP when system isnt even loaded, debloater is a module that works in OS. In TWRP recovery your terminal is barebone core loaded by recovery itself, there is absolutely no relation to the system and apps installed, no ADB environment, no app [meta]data.

I meant to use debloater to hide the app and you can then fix it from TWRP if it doesn't work. You could always setup the files it uses from TWRP but I guess that'd be harder to do.
I don't know how adb uninstall hides but you should be able to reverse that from TWRP too (likely removing some files).
If you mount /system just move things and move them back if it fails.

How would I fix it?
Does the "debloater" make extra unnecessary copies of APK when those already exist on system partition?

No, it hides them systemlessly, using files in /data/adb/modules/terminal_debloater/system.

Based on this: https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
I tried this:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.carrierdefaultapp
and to restore:
cmd package install-existing com.android.carrierdefaultapp
What I found was that with the app installed, I had some empty directories under /data/misc/profiles/ref/com.android.carrierdefaultapp and /data/misc/profiles/cur/0/com.android.carrierdefaultapp. When I removed the app, those directories were not present.
It's just a guess... but you could possibly save the contents of /data/misc/profiles (eg. tar cf /sdcard/profiles.tar /data/misc/profiles), pm uninstall your app and if it fails to boot, untar that from TWRP? Maybe test that theory with an app you know won't hurt before you do it for real
Note that neither terminal debloater (which uses mount tricks to hide system apps) or pmuninstall will actually remove files from /system. If you actually remove files from /system then the only way to get them back is to put them back.

I believe you need root access to remove some essential google packages, even with adb. But I found you can uninstall some packages if you get the playstore package name. I can't post links yet but package name on Google Play is "Google VR Services"
or try
Code:
adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.DELETE -d package:<your app package>
(find the VR package name and run that command)
Try these i was only able to remove daydream the others just freeze
com.google.vr.vrcore
com.google.android.vr.inputmethod - (daydream)
com google.vr.apps.ornament

'adb pm hide' returns permission exception

Hello,Trying to hide security app since its deletion causes a softbrick.
'pm hide package.name' returns:
Exception occurred while executing 'hide':
java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.

And some following lines of java errors. Tried also: 'pm hide --user 0' . Tested hide commands on several packages.
The phone is not rooted yet but perhaps su would do? I mean 'su pm hide'.
This is MIUI Global 12.5.5 on Redmi 9.
I want to hide security app to prevent kids from accessing Second Space.
Thanks!
I guess your security app is a system app. Does the command work for other system apps? I am not too familiar with the android security model.
You should not be able to use su without rooting your phone because rooting basically means getting access to the su binary, usually by installing the file to the system partition.
You may be able to modify a stock rom image in a way that the app is hidden by default. Sadly I do not know how to do that.

i think you just need to disable it
I am aware the phone needs to be rooted to issue commands as a root. Mine is not rooted and I'm not into until I am sure rooting enables issuing hide command successfully.
The hide command has been tested on various system and non-system apps - returning the same error for every case.
Nevermind, the workaround solution has been found. The external Launcher app allows to hide icons and it's password secured. This solution is only valid having the mi account app deleted (com.xiaomi.account) since mi account allows to reset password to a SIM.
Double post alert!
Uninstall vs block vs hide issue:
1) it is verified that uninstalling security app causes a softbrick on some models
2) since 'pm disable' is similar to 'pm uninstall', would 'pm disable' also cause a softbrick?
3) and would about 'pm hide'?

Yes and it is in use in my phone set-up (MIUI 12.5.5 supports both appLock and hiding apps).
However, neither option (appLock nor hiding) is available for the security app. There is simply no Security app position in AppLock nor hiding apps list.
Thus, external Launcher is necessary for my use-case.
