Update to oreo without unlocking bootloader ? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hello Guys
I just got a M9 today. Reading here I see that the Android Oreo is available. My version is MHAL29. So, tried some methods to update but no success.
So, there is a way to update without unlocking bootloader ?! Like OTA or something like that

Man, my bootloader is already unlocked.
I can't use themes, the update OTA option is not here.
I just wanna to turn my phone original again, with themes working, OTA working...

Why isn't your theme working? Are you on custom rom?

I don't know why. I put my device on fastboot mode, and my bootloader appears locked, but in settings I have no option to update (there is no app), and themes doesn't work. I read that when we get the bootloader unlocked, this features get broke.

I don't think there's an offline firmware update zip like there is for the C636, which would basically reinstall your firmware. That's why I asked which version you were on.
If you can't find a way to resolve this then you could always rebrand to the C636 and it will reinstall your firmware in full
I'd try using firmware finder from the play store first and see if you can install an update using the proxy add-on, however, you'll need to get into system update to do this. Can you not even get into that from settings?

OEM Unlocking

How do I get to enable OEM Unlocking on a verizon Pixel with the 7.1.1 Update? I've already went to a verizon store and they told me to go check out the forums.
It's greyed out, too
Thanks

Anything is possible in the future. But not right now. And no word of any progress.

This is where it sits currently.
If you want to unlock, install TWRP, etc. on the Verizon Pixel it MUST be done before updating to 7.1.1. The OTA permanently locks the bootloader UNLESS you unlocked before taking the OTA.
The OTA to 7.1.1 blocks the ability to unlock the bootloader with DePixel8. It also blocks the ability to fastboot an earlier build.
None of the developers are working on unlocking the Verizon devices running 7.1.1. The group that did it previously publicly stated they were not searching for a new exploit.

Bottloader Unlock + Nougat update Help

hello guys... I want to unlock bootloader of my BLN-L21 model. I have a few questions before doing anything.
1. If I unlock BL on Marshmallow, will I be able to update to nougat through OTA UPDATE?
2. I have BL unlock code (Obtained through website selecting BEFORE EMUI5.0). Can I use the same code to unlock BL after updating to nougat?
3. I want to download official update package using Firmware Finder. It show 2 firmwares with same serial but one of them is MF and other one is MF-PV. What is the difference b/w the two?

1. Yes if you just unlocked the bootloader. Messisng with the system will render you unable to update.
2. Yes. But you will only need to unlock it once.
3. I'm not sure.

Yes dload is the easiest way if the Settings app is not alerting you of an update. Some users reported that flashing the firmware through TWRP doesn't work. But for me, I tried it before in Marshmallow and it worked. I do not recommend this though. Stick to dload. :highfive:

My settings app is telling me that update is available... Actually I want to dwnld the update package once and not through the settings app... As I'm going to install the custom rom so firmware is necessary for me...
Can the downloaded firmware (by updater app) be saved like downloading from firmware finder?

Actually I can't exactly remember. But yeah I think the update is saved in internal storage. Because once it's downloaded, you can either install it now or later. While downloading the update, check inside the dload folder or any other folder with HW in its name. Check if there is a file there that grows in size as the download progresses.

It means Factory Reset Protection lock. A security feature. To disable it, you have to fully reflash the whole firmware. Is it enabled for you?

DO NOT INSTALL IT. There are rumors going around that it really messes with the bootloader. Some people reported it being locked after upgrading and it not being unlockable anymore with any known method
EDIT: Seems to be a false alarm. I've heard it from some people who run these unlocking sites. Better safe than sorry, I guess

I can't confirm that, installed, still unlocked and root via canary magisk still works. The one change that I noted is that Huawei finally fixed the home gesture, it now works like the mate 20 pro

Android Q on Converted T-Mobile OP7 Pro

As you know finally there is the MSM Tool for converting your T-Mobile branded OP7 Pro to international.
I have fully converted, downloaded the Android Q Developer preview and tried installing it via Local Upgrade has instructions said with no luck.
1. The .Zip file is in the root directory
2. The extension is .Zip and not .Jar
3. Local upgrade recognizes the .zip file but fails to install
Anybody has tried yet? This is what I get.

Honestly I wouldn't even flash it unless you are aware of the bugs and anything bad you may experience along the way.
I wish you luck.

The page should have mentioned that as a requirement to flash betas.

Question Returning to stock ROM&closing the bootloader?

Hi, a little question. If I closed the bootloader and returned to the stock ROM with no root, will I receive OTA updates again? Also another question, I want to modify some files before I flash the rom like I want to remove samsung emoji and put ios emoji in their place, is it possible?

No, any modification will be detected as custom and won't be able to be flashed with a locked bootloader.
You can receive OTA and update normally after locked bootloader

Ok thank you, I downloaded the stock rom and wont return to root in near future, because I strongly want the stability over apps - bank apps and phone, and I want encryption, and not anymore have more time for this. But how can I close the bootloader to receive OTA updates? Does installing it just normally through odin close it?

Make sure you are at stock. Boot into unlock mode again, do it the same like unlock, it will lock your bootloader. When stock boot up, enable Developer option, turn off allow OEM unlocking, reboot. Now you are able to receive OTA normally.
