I have a Droid Mini with Android 4.4.4 from Verizon. Years ago I successfully rooted a cheap tablet running Android 4.4.2. After that I tried to root my phone and failed. I tried everything I could find. At the time, the system was new, so I decided to just wait.
Fast forward a few years, and Android 8.0 is here. Once again I attempted to root my phone, because there has to be something that works now. Once again everything I tried didn't work.
Is there really no way to root 4.4.4? Have people really stopped trying to root phones?
It is highly possible that there may not yet exist a guide but the device may be rootable.
Please consider posting details to what you have tried, as this can build a road to success.
If feeling adventurous I recommend being a digital pioneer for your tablet. Please give these methods a go.
If a developer never gets a device or someone roots the device but doesn't post the solution a guide may not yet exist. Remember that each device is "poked" and "tested" individually. The pains of trying everything may pave the road to discovery. Developers know these pains. Most developers only make guides available once they can reproduce the root safely and consistently. Warnings still exist for rooting as it is not possible to test every make/model/version/revision.
If you are successful consider posting a guide for other users on the forums.

Well to start this off, many thanks to those of you have helped the community in any way, and those of you who have made exploits, mods, and other useful utilities for the use and greater good of technology. If this isn't in the right place, or has already been listed elsewhere, let me make my apologies now. And please by all means relocate it to another place if it is necessary.
To be honest I have searched the web using google and XDA and all other sources confirmed to be good in my future travels of modding and rooting devices. And I was unable to find any information on being able to root this device since the new update. So for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, here is a little brief history (and why updates are made typically.)
~There was a new update that made this 4.1.2 Jellybean SGS3 variant phone into a newer number from ".....MH1" to ".....NH2" respectively.
~Patches, updates, and other similar software add-ons are used for patching exploits, security flaws, and other potentially harmful things as well as bugs.
~This system update obviously was made to patch this phone and keep it from being rooted.
So, a client came to me and asked me to root his device and I googled for hours as he waited patiently and calm as I had ever seen any client of mine. I told him that this was odd and he agreed as he tried googling and tried using Cydia Impactor and was unsuccessful himself. At this point I was unsure of what to do. So naturally I decided we should downgrade his device to an earlier version. We checked and there was only one earlier version for this device at sam mobile. I take no credit for doing this. Just something I found out. Unless of course it isn't already known in which case, I will gladly accept all credit.

Before this update I kept getting an error regarding the exploits not functioning as I can reboot the phone using Cydia Impactor but not root it successfully.
Steps to fixing the not being able to root on Impactor:
I followed the steps at this guide -----> http://androidbiits.com/samsung-gal...ndroid-4-1-2-jelly-bean-uduamh1-s968cuduamh1/ to downgrade the system to ".....MH1" so that the root would work using the exploits used by Cydia Impactor.
Then after the update finished and the phone returned to the home screen, you should be able to close odin and use Cydia Impactor to root it afterwards.
Then install SuperSU from the android market and let it update to be rooted.
Hope that helped someone out there, and usually there are so many answers out there for problems I don't need to help. But I felt the need to do so. By all means please if I did help you, be kind enough to smack that thanks button upside the border on your way to success! Good day.

I'm well aware that there are plenty of threads around which touch this topic. However, in my case many of them are unsatisfying. (I can't say all of them since there are too many!)
I've got a SWITEL S57D Samba running Android 4.2.2. There's almost nothing on XDA about my phone. I desperately want to have root on it and already tried some of the tools which are supposed to root "(almost) any" device, such as Framaroot and Towelroot... but with no success. I'm yet to try Kingo Android Root or some of the countless other tools but I somehow feels as if I'm wasting my time if I don't properly know what to look for.
Have I missed a tool which can root literally ANY device?
How to determine which tool/method will root my device? (for a device that is never listed in any compatibility list since it's uncommon)
What could be indicators? (Android version, HW chip, Stock ROM, ...?)
If there are no FAQs or Tools available for my device, how can I get around to rooting my phone by myself?
What do I need to achieve in general? (run process as root? add user to group? set file permissions? ...?)
What reading material is out there?
What is the expected amount of time needed for a tech-savvy person which knows how to hack Linux?
Are there devices which can't be rooted?

So it turns out that Kingo Root was able to root my phone!!! (even though it was displayed as a HTC device)
It went to fastboot and my Win7 didn't recognize my android device anymore... I had to select the driver from the list "ASUS->Composite ADB driver". Then it all went fine.
Still it would be nice to get an answer for the questions I've asked in my previous post!

Ok, I'm relatively new to Android and modern mobiles, but I've learned quite a bit already on my own, without much help from others.
The fact some communities provide little to no help is why I came to XDA, but I'm afraid I'm already disappointed about this particular issue.
Ok here it is: I'm not using a custom ROM, and I don't think I want to use one. I'm using the stock ROM, but I've rooted my device with Kingroot, which seems the only one that REALLY WORKS for any device. That's what makes me mad (I don't know if mad is the exact word, but.... I don't know how else to put it).
When I try to install SuperSU, it won't work because it can't update or install its own binaries. When I try the Super-SUME solution, it also doesn't work. In Super-SUME's case (which a friend thankfully helped me test most versions):
6.0 = successfully uninstalls Kingroot, but that's it;
6.2 = same as 6.0 and installs SuperSU, but that's it, nothing works, nor are the binaries updated/installed;
any other version above 6.2, including the latest one (9.2.3): hangs/freezes in "processing, please wait..." and does nothing.
And I don't know who programmed Super-SUME, but I think it's pretty bold on their part to charge for the app when it won't even work on people's devices, as noted above.
So, forgive my rant, but even though Kingroot is infamous (because it's Chinese perhaps ?), at least its devs are capable of successfully obtaining root on all devices, whereas SuperSU's and Super-SUME's devs make it impossible because of the binaries or just because their app hangs on "processing". If a team of devs can successfully root a device, why others cannot without making the user go through extra steps ?
As for these "extra steps", there's not one tutorial on the web (that I had come across at least) with a clear, step-by-step process to install SU's binaries, or to fix Super-SUME's hanging/freezing issues. So after rooting my device and getting rid of Kingroot, all I can work with is an unrooted device with most bloatware out of the way.
I just wish these other devs would go the extra mile and make their apps successfully obtain root without complications, just like Kingroot does. The complications just make their apps useless.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I have already tried this root solution in the past. It's the only one where I managed to get SuperSU to work, but... the phone will always boot up in recovery mode. So I gave up on this solution as well.
I recently got my hands on a Xoom 2 MZ609 tablet, and I'm trying to root it and hopefully flash a custom ROM, maybe use it to cook my own and tinker a bit. However, I'm having a hell of a time tracking down the needed info. Because the Xoom 2 never got its own forum and there are some seriously old links scattered throughout all the various threads, I'm starting to come up short. Here's what I've got so far.

This thread is for upgrading to JB from a rooted ICS device. It includes a bunch of stuff I've not seen elsewhere, including tips on manipulating the Moto bootloader and avoiding issues with it while getting the OTA update.
Kingo Android Root and VRoot
The previous thread also suggests using Kingo to root JB once the OTA update is installed, but I've read in other threads that Kingo and Vroot are Bad Ideas(tm) due to IMEI and s/n mining. Can't really find anything newer than 2013 or so about whether this was ever resolved; apparently the Vroot/Kingo devs basically said they weren't doing anything shady, but I can't find any indication that this was verified.
So, uh, I'm just trying to put the pieces together and figure out where to go from here. I'm even willing to put together a guide with all the info in one place, if I can just put it all together first.

Like many other threads I have browsed through, I too am having issues with King Root rooting and then suddenly rebooting my phone. After a successful reboot in the midst of not even 30% complete of rooting being complete, it still says my phone is rooted until the reboot occurs. After the reboot, it says I am not rooted. So, I still assume that King Root still has no methods to root this model yet. However, I am dealing with two issues I was hoping to get someone with experience, expertise, or just very smart with rooting Android platforms.
1. I was wondering if there is a way to root this model whether it can be done with with or without a computer or laptop. King Root has now become a system application that I can't remove because I don't have root access. I've tried everything to get rid of it. It constantly on a daily basis notifies me that it's trying to or that I need to try to gain root access. I would not have any issue reverting back to original firmware as hard reset has done nothing.
2. Is there a different firmware (I prefer the most recent update) available for this model? I could live with reverting back to the original firmware when I bought the phone in July 2016 from Cricket Wireless. I am not able due to the hardware or software thinking I'm rooted or suspicious of rooting so the update won't process after downloading.
This is my first post. Sorry, if I seem like a newbie here. I just haven't found any relevant answers on Google or searching the forums for similar posts. If there is a way to root successfully, please provide links or some instructions on how to do so. If not, I hope someone can help me revert my firmware to the newest or factory bought. Anything to just get rid of King Root and I know and have already accomplished disabling KR for the time being despite doing hard reset twice already. Is it possible to replace firmware with a new ROM as well?
