[FIXED] Problems with SIM cards registering after flashing custom ROMs. - Miscellaneous Android Development

THIS ISSUE IS FIXED
..so who rated it 1?
Thanks to @gilby2704 for telling me about the kernel fix and @pakrett-bm for creating it.
I fixed it by doing the following:
Wiping Dalvik/ART Cache, Data, System, and Cache.
Flashing the ROM (Resurrection Remix).
Flashing the kernel fix.
Restoring Tee, NVData, and NVRam from my TWRP backup.
---
I hope this helps someone, and that I didn't type that for no reason. Thanks again to the people who helped me not have to buy a new phone.
Old post:
Code:
I've flashed a couple of different ROMs, all of which are based off Nougat 7.1.2, including [URL="https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/micromax-canvas-5-e481-ressurection-t3667680"]Resurrection Remix[/URL] and [URL="https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/crdroid-v3-5-micromax-canvas-5-e481-t3685656"]crDROID[/URL], originally designed for the Micromax Canvas 5. Both of those worked fine, though a LineageOS 14.1 port to the Elephone P8000 bootlooped my device until I managed to get into recovery by accident.
However, both RR and crDROID aren't registering my SIM card. I'm not sure how I could go about fixing this, if anyone could provide some help I'd appreciate it.
Some ideas I've had are to:
[LIST]
[*]Flash a boot.img from [URL="https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/device-reviews-and-information/blu-life-one-x-2016-porting-resources-t3385109#post74342084"]here[/URL],
[*]flash a kernel made for this device,
[*]flash a radio.img / modem.bin for this device,
[*]or reflash the stock ROM.
[/LIST]
The only problems with the above options are:
[LIST]
[*]I'm not sure if I can just flash a boot.img and not brick my phone,
[*]I can't find a kernel for this device,
[*]I can't find a radio/modem file for this device,
[*]and reflashing the stock ROM didn't work correctly, though I only tried it once.
[/LIST]
As I've already said, all help is appreciated.
Thanks, and good day.

Which TWRP version did you use? I'm on 2.8.7.0 I haven't touched fastboot since two years ago...
Also did u restore Tee1 and Tee2, or just one of them? Have you faced any bugs in the remix rom? Stock rom is rock solid for me, usually go 30-60days or more between reboots. And screen on time? Stock gives me 5-7hrs.
Sorry for all the questions. Just want to make sure I get this done right. Thanks in advance.

Check my other posts for more details; in case you don't know where you found this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/blu-life-onex2016
I'm actually unsure of the version of TWRP I'm using, I'll attach it in the post. "twrpmat.img" is the one that I boot with RR on 7.1.2, it's a material version that I renamed and I don't have my phone with me; I think it's the latest one from the main post. From the stock marshmallow ROM I booted "twrp.img", don't ask me what version that is. I couldn't get the other versions to boot, but it could've just been something I did and it didn't damage my device in any way - it just failed to boot into it, restarted, and attempted to boot to system.
I restored both Tee1 and Tee2.
As for bugs, it could've been just something I did, but occasionally my apps just stop working; usually it's the ones that access the internet. "Updating" the app works - I just extract the apk and install it, without uninstalling. You don't have to have the apk beforehand, it fixes itself if you update the package at all, even if you don't make changes. It's likely that this is a glitch caused by not having Gapps installed, however.
Reboot wise, I have no idea - I'm constantly changing things so I reboot a lot. I haven't experienced any major system crashes though, sometimes when I do weird stuff the UI randomly reboots.
I also couldn't tell you about screen on time, since when I'm doing things I generally have it on the charger, and I have all sorts of things on it that run constantly, including OpenVPN, which I imagine drains battery like a mother****er. Without Gapps installed it probably has more than stock, though.
I don't mind the questions at all, happy to help. Feel free to ask more if need be, but be warned that I'm not on here all that often.
Cheers,
Tazeki.

[Q] How to get new language!

Hi guys!
Recently i buy this Photon Q 4G LTE Sprint to my wife's birthday.
It's a wonderfull device with a nice hardware, but the best is the external keyboard (She likes it, because his old device was Motorola dextr, and she was used to), but we're from brazil and my first difficulty was to find a rom that support drivers without bugs.
So here i was: My first try was MIUI. I unlocked my bootloader, rooted and installed TRWP. Didi Backup, formated and installed MIUI, :good:
First i tryed with Kernell the UFO developed for it, and the device don't boot. After i tryed just the rom, but it has no modem or wifi. So i flashed up the stock rom modem img and worked fine.
But apks like "retrica" doesn't work with it, bringing black photos and others apks made for instragram. I love this rom and i have installed in my Xperia Play. It works perfect, but in this device have a lot of bugs, so i give up.
I know how to use it with bugs, but not my wife. Then i had to try another one.
I downloaded Cyanogenmod CM10.1, CM10.2, CM11 nightly, snapshot. Then after try all "Xt897" roms, i tryed all "moto_msm8960".
I can't get in any of this roms make my wifi or 3G work. I believe that modem is not compatible. Even if i tryed to flashed stock modem after, i still had no signal at all. No IMEI, no MAC Address, nothing. :crying:
This device have few alternative roms, so i decided try to translate the rom with less bugs at all. I picked up the stock rom JellyBeans 4.1.2, but this was my second failure. A language patch is something that you don't find in market, and to disassembly entire rom and work in a translate is something beyond my knowledges.
So i have an answer to someone that know how to do a fix patch to wifi in cyanogenmod(Specific "cm-11-20140518-NIGHTLY-moto_msm8960.zip" ), or someone good in translate rom, or input a language in stocked rom, like The Solutor did in " [Full ICS ROM] Multilanguage/Toggle2g /STK/Tethering" (but the rom he used was 4.0.4 and it have bugs).
I will be grateful for any help. :fingers-crossed:
Hmm, what's the language you want (CM11 already have lots of them - not in the list?), and what WiFi/3G problem are you having? And you also failed to RSD the phone back to stock?
My recommendation is you first sort the RSD thing out and get the phone back to stock 4.1.2, and flash everything from that onwards. Assuming that you don't do anything wrong in the process, you should have no quirks with WiFi/3G.
Sent from Google Nexus 4 @ CM11
Try MoreLocale2 for the stock ROM language issues.
As for the CM issues... I agree with Andy, if it works in stock form, it "should" work on CM - at least that has been my experience.
You are clean wiping / factory resetting before or after flashing CM yes? I see you have done this step for MIUI, so I am thinking that you have already done this step...
If you have, can you provide logs from CM if the wiping/RSD'ing doesn't work?
Thx for help guys...
AndyYan - The language i need is Portuguese(Brasil) and it has on CM 11 and MIUI.
I did it as you said. I downloaded stock from here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=3
Rom version: Android 4.1.2 - Blur_Version.98.10.5.XT897.Sprint.en.US)
And flashed by RSD.
Everything ok till here. No errors, nothing wrong. Wifi working as well, and the network.
My MIUI was taken from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444449 (GSM one).
Cool rom, it has wifi and network, but camera bugs with some apks. For me ok, but not for my wife. So this rom was discarded.
CM i dwonloaded from here: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=moto_msm8960
The last one was: cm-11-20140521-NIGHTLY-moto_msm8960.zip (i tryed all of then "XT897" and "moto_msm8960", but none of them could get my network working. No wifi, no IMEI, no MAC, no wifi).
CM was my hope, because it has my language, but in all tries i did the wipe in cache, dalvik, system, factory, even internal memory, before installing, and cache or dalvik after flash. I tried this in all (tried not wiping too) and still has no modem.
After this, just for try, i flashed stock modem "NON-HLOS.bin". Still got no modem in any CM roms.
arrrghhh - i did try "MoreLocale2" for the stock rom, and "Set Locale and Language" (and more). This softwares did a nice job for keyboards and apks, but system stays intact in english. It need to be a real translation for my wife.
My guess is that this issue can be easily solved.
If all JB roms have the same system(at least for "moto_msm8960" processor kind ).
This ROM is generic for Motorola Atrix HD, Electrify M, Photon Q, RAZR HD, and RAZR M right?
Razr HD is a type of phone that came to my country.
Is it possible compile a system from Brasil career stock, for this phone with modem and anything else from my stock rom? Does it will crash my phone?
Please provide logs from the latest build of CM after booting and attempting to engage/connect to wifi.
Logs??
Sotty about my doubt, but i don't know what kind of logs do you want(i'm not used to).
Logs from TWRP in instalation?
This is easy. Installation was made with no errors and succesfully.
Does CM made logs itself??
If does, i dont know how to get them. Please send me a link.

CM does create logs. If you're not familiar with them, the easiest way is to use an app from the Play Store... which I'm not sure how you will manage without wifi or mobile data, and I assume you are not familiar with adb.
I can go thru the detail, but it's a bit involved. Perhaps this thread will help you?
Once you know how adb works, there's actually an easier method than using adb logcat to output to a file - there are logs stored in '/data/logger'. So:
Code:
adb root
So you can have the permissions to pull the files, then pull them:
Code:
adb pull /data/logger
Will pull all of the log files to wherever your command prompt is. If you 'cd' (change directory) to your desktop, doing the adb pull will send all the log files to your desktop.
Let me know if you have any questions, good luck.
Logs from Adb
Yeap! I'm familiar with ADB!!
(i'm not expert in it, but i already did something with that...)
I don't know exactly what are you lookin for, so i did two logs.
First a complete boot:
Code:
adb reboot system
adb logcat -v long > boot_log.txt
And one for especific modem log from boot
Code:
adb reboot system
adb logcat WifiStateMachine:E *:S -v long > just_wifi_error.txt
(I believe this this won't help u a lot?!)
The first one is the most complete solution for this and have all the boot infos, errors and other things.
If am i wrong please say the correct command to use.
I forgot something...
In filemanager i can't access internal storage.
It shows /storage/emulated/0, and points to nothing.
If i'm right, this was a well know bug on CM 10.2, which supposedly been fixed in CM 11 right?!
I think that information can help to solve this bug...
Please try the adb pull command I sent... Those logs are not very helpful, and quite difficult to read.
However, I have a feeling if you use RSD Lite to flash everything back stock, confirm it works, then start with the latest CM, I'd be curious if it works.
Also, someone mentioned they needed to install the CM10.2 snapshot before going to CM11 - or else BT and wifi did not work.
Eureca...
That is something that i didn't tried! I'd never flashed CM 10 in first!!!
I'm downloading "cm-10.2-20131102-SNAPSHOT-M1-xt897.zip ".
Fisrt i'll flash stock "Blur_Version.98.10.5.XT897.Sprint.en.US" with RSD.
Then fastboot "logo.bin" (to avoid warning unlocked), and TRWP(my stock have a original recovery that can't install CM. I can edit XML, but to cleanse my conscience i'll let this way).
After i'll install "cm-10.2-20131102-SNAPSHOT-M1-xt897.zip" with TRWP and boot with this one.
Then i'll flash "cm-11-20140526-NIGHTLY-moto_msm8960.zip ".
But i'll have to do this at night(it's 12pm here), because i'm working today.
If that don't work i'll pull the log that you said here, but I come back to thank.
Same problem
I confess I was hopeful in that case you said to flash first the CM 10.2.
But again failed. I tried two ways:
In both I tried to install the Snapshot CM 10.2, then the CM 11.
There is no way that cell boot with "CM 10.2" in any case. That saty on boot animation for several time(i waited 30 minutos each).
In the first I downgraded to version 4.0.4 stock to see if the modem worked.
After that i flashed CM 10.2 that stood in boot animation, then CM 11 booted without modem signal (no wi-fi, no signal).
I taked the log for that version (attachment named log_4.0.4.7z)
On the second attempt, I used the default stock 4.1.2.
After CM 10.2 which was stucked on boot animation again, then CM 11 again booted without modem signal (no wi-fi, no signal).
I taked the log for that version (attachment named log_4.1.2.7z)
Strange thing happened on both CM 11 boot. When the system's load, it shows a message "The clock stopped". This is strange thing for me.
Can you wait for CM10.2 to boot...? There is a fsck process which sometimes takes quite a long time to boot.
Also, for your FC issue - you are clean flashing the ROM everytime? You are doing a factory reset everytime you flash a new ROM?
Edit - looking at your logs, I don't think the fsck is the issue... something is causing the CM10.2 boot to die over and over. Please try clean flashing...
I clean everything before.
Yeap. What do you call a clean flashing?
Everytime i flash some ROM, i do factory reset, clean cache and dalvik.
The ROM is flashed on a clean state of the stock one. Is this the clean you are talking about?
CM was taken about 30 minutes to boot, and yet don't load system.
This is why i stop that and flash CM 11 over it.
Is this time bigger than that? How long your cell take to boot this CM 10.2?

Yes, factory reset == clean flash.
As for the long boot, I'm not sure the fsck is your issue - basically there is a process which runs a disk check, and sometimes this will make the boot take quite longer than usual. I can't say how long, I've never personally experienced the issue.
However, the fact that CM10.2 isn't booting is a little disturbing. I've heard some people report 45-60 mins... can you do me a favor, charge up the phone, and try to let it boot for at least 90 minutes?
If at the 90min mark it still hasn't booted, pull logs and post them.
Thanks.
The logs contain references to apps that are present only in stock firmware.
That means the CM boot is actually not happening in a clean environment (the data wipe/factory reset in TWRP hasn't worked as it should?).
Please try to use OpenRecovery 2.09 instead of TWRP (as OR is the recovery I personally use and watch for possible bugs) to wipe the device and to install CM11 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2211579&page=10
When installing CM in recovery, you will probably also want to install the gapps package - http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
Btw., CM11 expects the baseband (modem) and other partitions the be at the 4.1.2 stock level. Experiments with 4.0.4 are useless.
Please post the logs from CM11 boot.
You will need to enable the logger under CM11 by
Code:
su
setprop persist.log.aplogd.enable 1
in Terminal app or ADB shell, it's not enabled on CM11 by default.

Hi... My TRWP version is "openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.1-asanti_c.img".
Something is not ok with this one. Sometimes this one format the cache, sometimes not.
I have to do it a lot of times and when i try to format data partition, this just reload the TWRP.
I want to install this one that you said, but those links in the post you sent are broken.
Can you please send me another one?

TWRP 2.6.3.x should also work properly.
@arrrghhh, so you see it's not just me having the "wiping /data reboots the recovery" problem... I've already sold my PQ (might buy a new one in the future), but please do help let this problem be known to whoever's developing TWRP for us

I can't believe it works
Unbelievable!
This very simple solution worked for me.
My TRWP did not work right.
He said he had done successfully in cleaning the cache and manufactures, but did not.
I downloaded the link you guys sent me and it worked on the first try.
Not needed before installing CM 10.2. Already installed in the first CM 11, has worked with modem and everything. Now I can configure the GSM network my country and language of the country for my wife (PR-BR).
I want to thank the efforts of user @ AndyYan to respond, the attention given by the user @ Arrrghhh teaching me with patience, and the solution given by the user @ kabaldan. :victory:
You are awesome for this forum. Thanks for everything.
If you still want the log I get, but I think with everything working, you guys should already know the outcome.

[ROM][UnOfficial]CyanogenMod 13 Semi-Nightlies for the Verizon Galaxy S3 (d2vzw)

CyanogenMod and D2VZW: Marshmallow Love!
To Make this easy, I am going to copy a bit of the common sense information Master Cylinder put up for the release of Lollipop, same basics apply here!
Huge thanks to Invisiblek for making these builds for us!
Thanks to Master Cylinder for all the super useful information!
De-unified Marshmallow builds for the Galaxy S3 line. This is for the Verizon variant (SCH-I535) only
CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 6.0 which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Notes:
Please Use Firmware: VRBMF1
and
Modem/Baseband Version: NE1 (Also, see "Notes - Possible Bugs" section below)
(EDIT: The following statement might not be true. It happened to one user. Unsure about circumstances...)If you have recently downgraded firmware from 4.3 to 4.1.2, DO NOT flash the MF1 firmware. You'll brick your device!
If you know you never took the 4.3 OTA, then you can flash the firmware and modem to your hearts content.
CWM Recovery addicts: Please seriously consider giving up CWM and come on board with what works for sure with 5.1.x and up, TWRP. Problems have been coming up with CWM users so if you have one, that's were to start. Hopefully there's a 12-step program somewhere for y'all
Google apps addon:
Open GApps opengapps.org They have many options for you to choose from based on your needs. Updated daily.
>>>WARNING!!<<< The first time one installs Open GApps, you have to do it with a ROM update (or reinstall current ROM) AND manually wipe the system partition first. Then install the ROM and the GApps normally, then wipe Dalvik and Cache. After that, you can flash them anytime. (More info on Website.) ALSO, for now, don't install Webview as it might not work. There is an "Android System Webview" in the Play Store that will work.
I personally don't use GApps on my Daily Driver, I have a second S3 on Wi-Fi only that I put GApps on, and I use it to basically keep all my apk files up to date. When they get updated, I move the updated apk to my main phone!
I went to opengapps.org, went to Platform: ARM, then to Android: 6.0, and then to Variant: pico. Invisiblek made sure he warned me to do a clean install of the ROM, then Immediately flash the GApps package, then Wipe Dalvik and Cache, then boot. He said NOT to try to install ROM, then add GApps later otherwise bad things can happen! Obviously pick the flavor of GApps that suits your needs!
This page will be a work in progress, so please don't yell if something is missing. I just got the OK to share this with others and wanted to get it out there for you to enjoy. I have been playing with it for the last 24 hours and it is ROCK SOLID in my opinion. I haven't found any issues yet! Daily Driver for me for certain. If you have issues, please post them for discussion below!

Incoming phone calls do not show caller information (Stealth111)
**When you get your ROM installed and up and running, please be kind and put a small post with information about your install so we can get as much info gathered as possible. (ROM build you installed, Recovery type/version, Clean install, or Dirty (and if dirty, over what version did you flash), what GApps package you installed(exact one please) as well as when you installed it (if on same initial install as ROM, or differently). And lastly maybe the firmware/modem combo you are running. Thanks!
***IMPORTANT INFORMATION*** If you are going to flash to cm-13.0-20151121-UNOFFICIAL-d2vzw or later build, there have been some database changes. InvisibleK has provided a flashable zip file to accommodate nuking your old telephony and settings databases. Nandroid or backup files as needed if you want, as I seem to remember doing this with CM before, and clearing the database wiped texts and call logs I believe. This only needs to be done 1 time, the first time you flash any build from 11-21 on. After you have done this once, you are good to go moving forward, you will be upgraded to the new databases. If you do not flash the "Nuke_It" zip file, you will get phone FC's and a "No SIM Card" error message. So whether upgrading, dirty flashing or whatever, reboot into recovery, flash the ROM, and BEFORE you boot, flash the following zip!
Nuke IT Database Wiper
Profit!
Enjoy!

Thanks. I also misread the notation at OpenGApps, which said that need a "ROM" with the patch to allow Google services permissions. Also, there are some posts I've found about fixing permissions after boot then reinstalling GApps, but I won't post that here in case it misleads. I'll be the guinea pig as I've dloaded and backed up and ready to jump out the window!

Hello and thank you for providing us, S3 users, with the chance to try the long awaited Marshmallow ROM.
I downloaded the ROM a minute ago, but unable to download the MF1 firmware and NE1 modem, via link. I keep getting:
Error 404: Server be all like
Am I doing something wrong? If not... What next?
I just finished booting it. It seems pretty nice, and I only noticed a few things. The boot time was around half an hour as usual with lollipop. I did notice that there wasn't any camera app preloaded and I couldn't access my sd card through the file explorer (I chose not to format my sd card as internal and I gave the file explorer root access).

Yes, @Stealth111 you've copied the text from the CM12 OP but that won't work for links EDIT: that are truncated in a post. You have to manually copy the link, ex: right click on the link (if you're using a computer,) copy link location of whatever, and insert it manually.
Here is the working link: http://www.invisiblek.org/firmware/d2/d2vzw_MF1_firmware_NE1_modem.zip
On another note: I couldn't get my install to function past the first couple of screen in setup. com.android.phone fc avalanche stops all progress. Wiped and installed 3 times with no success. Running NE1 modem (after flashing and booting with ML1 the first time.)

I also can't access the camera even after installing a new camera app. A new file explorer took care of my sd card issues however.
@ Master Cylinder, thanks for the heads up on the link, I have fixed it in the OP. For ****s and giggles, trying wiping and installing just the ROM, and then wipe Dalvic and Cache and see how it goes. Maybe a GApps issue. Also, goes without saying, make sure the MD5 from the download matches to verify you got a good DL..
@Doctorimpossible, glad you were able to sort out the access issue. I install ES File Explorer right away, so I didn't notice the issue. Good catch. These are the types of thing we need to sort out as quickly as possible to get this thing rolling! I will say that my initial boot only took about 5 minutes, but again, I did not load ANY GApps.

I have installed it on 4 devices myself with no issues. They were all with TWRP 2.8.7.0, clean installs, data wiped, ROM only install, and wiped caches before first boot. DoctorImpossible also has installed it and is up and running. I don't know what GApps he is running (if any). I will add to the OP asking people to put what they did/used for successful installs.

I used the GApps linked in the description with the stock option and flashed using TWRP 2.8.7.0. I rebooted from 5.1.1, factory reset, manually wiped system, flashed the rom, then flashed GApps, wiped the cache, rebooted, rebooted again and flashed xposed (which works by the way!)

There's no way to tell, but you're probably okay. How did you flash your ROM? This is to warn people that the recent post for a procedure to "Downgrade" from their locked bootloader 4.3 OTA that all of us avoided because we were already rooted, etc. This new method has only been around since this summer, so if you have been rooted in the years category, you're probably okay.
Besides, it may even not be a problem if one had done that new method.

Completely Eliminated Static Boot on Rooted V20 with My Stock Kernel!!!

Alright guys, so this happened 100% ON ACCIDENT but it actually worked! I wanted to let you guys know because maybe it will help some of the devs figure out how to eliminate the static boot for good.
I have the H910 ATT V20. I initially rooted it using Dirty Santa but, at the time, nobody had made a custom ROM for the ATT variant yet. I flashed the Konverged Kernel and from then on, I had the dreaded static screen on boot. @Tilde88 was extremely generous in offering to make a custom ROM if I provided some files for him and he made the first excellent NotSoStock ROM for the ATT V20. However, I had some issues installing it on the first try. When I tried to flash his ROM, TWRP gave me an error telling me I had a US996. I patched the zip with a file from Tilde88 and it worked like magic!
Since then, there has been a lot of progress in ROMs and kernels for all the variants. For the sake of experimentation, I have tried different ROMs and kernels to see how they affect the phone. Since my phone is registering as a US996, I flashed that variant of the NotSoStock ROM. The Werewolf Kernel from @USA-RedDragon is the only one I know of so far that does not have the static on boot. I have been flashing Werewolf and Konverged along with different ROMs to see the difference in performance and battery.
The ROM I am on right now is Extreme Syndicate from @elliwigy. Since it is based off of the stock deodexed US996 firmware, I thought it sounded great to try since it has NONE of the bloat from any of the various carriers. I read in a post by @AlkaliV2 here about flashing the stock kernel located on my computer from the original Dirty Santa root method:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v2...-nrd90m-modded-notsostock-rom-t3525344/page21
That gave me an idea to download and flash the stock unlocked US996 kernel since Extreme Syndicate is based off of that. I had Konverged Kernel at the time. I flashed the US996 kernel, but forgot to flash SuperSU before boot... Woops lol. So I went back to TWRP and formatted my phone to start from a fresh flash, but realized I also deleted my ROM backup when I formatted my phone. So I decided to install a ROM and kernel fresh.
HERE IS HOW I FIXED THE STATIC BOOT
After formatting my phone, I flashed the Extreme Syndicate ROM with the Werewolf Kernel. I chose this kernel so there would not be any static on boot.
Then
I booted back to TWRP, made a backup just in case, and flashed my stock H910 ATT kernel from the file named bootbackup.img. After that, I flashed SuperSU, wiped Cache and Dalvik, rebooted... and BAM, just like that, no static! It says under software information that I am on kernel version 3.18.31. 3C Toolbox shows the kernel as Linux 3.18.31g12e8957
It is still fresh so I have to see how it goes with battery and performance. Initially, it was noticeably slower. I completely fixed this by:
1. Implementing all options under "One Click -> Performance Optimizations" in the app 3C Toolbox
2. Selecting "Performance" under Profiles in the app L Speed
I just wanted to share this with everyone to put this info out there. I have not seen a fix for the static boot yet and though that this might be useful info for someone out there! I hope this helps!
Yes, there is an updated driver branch using CAF sources that fixes static boot. I'm far too busy in life to get anything done, and before anything else, I have to get v6.0 for the H918 going. Once that is up (using the latest build and soruces from LG), I can move forward for 6.0 for the other devices.

This is an interesting approach, I'm not entirely sure why it would work but I'm willing to give it a shot. I'm not entirely convinced that you are running the stock AT&T kernel though since you are seeing performance loss and no static on boot. I don't have a normal method for ensuring that you have the stock kernel (like Wi-Fi calling being enabled) but I do have one way you could check. Use any terminal emulator (no root/su needed) and pass the command
Code:
uname -r
and let me know the output.
I have the stock AT&T kernel installed with everything working aside from static boot and mine reads:
Code:
3.18.31-perf-ge3230fb

Do you have any idea why that might have happened? I used the file directly from the Dirty Santa folder, but maybe there is an issue since I flashed it over the previous kernel.

Also, I think it is an issue with my phone registering as a LG-US996. None of the ATT ROMs will flash onto it and I don't know how to convert it back to register as an H910. It seems like that is one of the primary reasons that the kernel I used from my computer may be having issues. Do you know how I can revert my phone? Nemisisg4 mentioned that when he tried to reflash the NotSoStockRom, it said no OS was installed. I also got that error numerous times when messing with different setups and it caused me to have to flash things all over again. I could not restore my saved backups of the 5.5 either after wiping the ROM I think because, since the ROM needed to go from the 5.1 to the 5.5, when I backed-up the 5.5, there was a conflict during the restore process.

Alright, I was out for a little but I'm back now and I have a suggestion. I'm going to write up a short how-to but go here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/stock-att-h910-stock-recovery-boot-image-t3528060
You are not going to follow that guide directly as I need to update it to include the actual stock kernel bootbackup.img but the backup files need to be placed in TWRP for the Restore function to work.
So to modify the steps a bit for your usage:
!) You need SuperSU 2.79 stable and your bootbackup.img file saved to your microSD card
1.) Put the files in the TWRP > Backups folder (preferably on your microSD card because we are formatting your entire data and internal storage) *
2.) You are going to go to advanced wipe and wipe everything except microSD and USB-OTG
3.) Go back and choose Format Data from the wipe screen and swipe to wipe data again just to be sure
4.) Reboot to recovery
5.) Now we want to restore the system image you have saved to your MicroSD card. Hit the restore menu, make sure the system checkbox is checked only, and slide to start
6.) Once finished head back to the main menu and choose Install > Install image and choose your bootbackup.img file
7.) Once done immediately flash SuperSU 2.79 stable
8.) Power off the device from the menu leave it be for about 30 seconds then turn it back on and let it boot.
It SHOULD work. Let me know if it doesn't and I wish you luck. Also, avoid US996 ROMs for the time being. I am getting the H910 image out to devs as quickly as I can and it has files that are pretty important to the hardware in our phone. If you get this to boot just use TiBu to remove things you don't want and always keep a copy of this backup ROM on your drive.
*If you do not have a microSD card to put these files on you can do a full wipe like I mention above, but you'll have to fully wipe it as I have instructed, reboot recovery to TWRP, hook the phone up to the PC at that point and copy the files you need over to it at that point.

Wow, thank you for such a detailed post! So just to clarify, after flashing the bootbackup.img that includes the stock kernel AND the stock ROM? And this is basically unrooting my phone and putting it back to stock, so I would need to go through this process, then re-root?
Before you responded, I managed to flash the stock US996 kernel to my phone with the extreme syndicate ROM. So far it is lightning fast, the battery seems good. Usage so far is about 7 hours with an estimated time remaining of 35h 27 min. I know you said to avoid the US996 ROMs, do you think it is worth it to go back to stock if I am getting those stats as of right now, will the battery life and speed be comparable? Isn't the hardware the same, just each phone has it's own OS, hence why my phone functions on the US996 after the conversion happened? I have no idea about this so I am just throwing that out there to ask!
Thanks again for your help!

I can't even begin to tell you what the right thing to do here is. I can only say what my experience was having my device run as a US996. Broken comfort view, no wifi-calling, FM radio not working (variant kernel related), and issues with battery drain. But that was my experience. If you are having good results running 996 then don't feel obligated to change. My post was just to get your phone back to being recognized as a H910. Now to answer your original question:
The files I linked to above in the guide are for the H910 system, recovery, and boot image made immediately after I got dirty cow working. The kernel in that backup set is the US996 kernel, not the one you need to go back to full rooted stock. The restore method I mention does not remove root or break TWRP it just puts back the stock ROM in full and then you flash bootbackup.img along with SuperSu to keep root and boot the stock kernel. It is the config I am running right now because it gets me all the features working aside from the static boot. So you only need to follow my guide if you can't get back to stock H910 rooted.
Edit: let me be clear in case it wasn't before. If you decide to use my backup files: do NOT use the boot or recovery image from those restore files. Use just the system restore image and your own personal bootbackup.img kernel along with SuperSu 2.79 stable.

Definitely makes sense. Yeah I have been having issues with battery drain and all that, as well. This is the very first time since I have been having issues with the US996/H910 conversion and incompatibility that I have actually got it to be stable. I also didn't like not having comfort view, and this actually fixed it! Comfort view now works on my phone, it didn't work earlier today before this most recent flash. I think that I will just give it some time before I make a decision and see how the battery fares. You have been a HUGE help, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the process to restore my phone. I do want to do it, but being that it currently seems to be doing a lot better than before, I'll wait before making the leap back to stock just for comparison.

[6045O] Attempting to upgrade to Lineage 13

Alright, This is just because I am trying to take precautions so that way I do not end up with a brick.
Currently I am rocking 5.1 PAC-MAN and things are going well. But LineageOS for MM for 6045 came already and I want to use that as my daily driver.
Here is where I run into a problem. For those of you that know I only have LP radios and modems on my system. Main problem I am having and is keeping me from flashing is the lack of a MM radio and or modem. Is there anyone that is on 6045O that had tried this out without having that lockscreen problem?
If you don't flash the MM radios, you will end up with lock screen issues, unfortunately.
-EDIT-
So apparently I can't read. I have the 6045O and this link has the correct modem files to fix the lock screen issues.

6.0.1 modem is the file you need.

While playing around with ROMs for the phone I had some odd issues here and there. As far as the SuperSU flash, it almost always loops a couple times during the reboot process, but I've switched to the lineageOS official su addon because I like native support and root management. Also it never did those initial boot loops. When I did have an issue (just recently, in fact) I ran a wipe of the system partition, then installed the rom, and ran the repair file system option in TWRP, and since then it's been smooth as butter. If you're interested in giving it another go, just let me know and I should be able to link you the files, as they're on my google drive.

May I ask one more thing? Have you ever gotten the PIN lock or password or pattern lock to work?
EDIT: Nvm. Using Hi-Locker for now. All is good.
I use a pattern lock on mine, and after flashing the modem files, the lock screen functions as it should with all methods. Consider re-flashing the modem and ROM if you get to where you want to play with it, full wipe prior, no dirty flash.

What is missing for nandroid backups/"normal" flashing process?

I know we don't have a complete implementation of recoveries, like twrp/of (I know it's basically the same), yet. But now that we have the kernel source, what is still missing (vendor?)?
Also and kinda of a similar question, what is still missing regarding a "normal" flashing process? Like wipe system, data, dalvik/art, cache, flash rom and not having to have a base stock firmware and needing to format data.
To be honest, I'm a bit confused with this phone. My other phones (admittedly last one's didn't get past Android 9), were so different in that regard.
So I'd really appreciate if someone could take the time to shed some light on this.
Maybe we'll see a stable version of twrp for surya but support for dynamic partitions will not be available soon.
Having to format data everytime you flash a new rom may be solved having the kernel source. I think it has to do with encryption keys. Even if you don't have any password set in the OS, miui still generates keys to encrypt the data and when you wipe only, they get deleted hence, data on the internal nemeory remains encrypted. That's what I think.

Ok, to be honest and judging by the fact that the announcement by Dees_Troy was over a year ago, things look pretty difficult to say the least.
I had my last phone (axon7) for so long that all the new implementations, like dynamic linking and super partition, weren't really on my radar.
Guess I was a little naive in thinking that the kernel source would be of any help in that regard.
This lack of stable time-tested solutions worries me, too.
That's the main reason why I'm still on stock ROM on the Poco and the Axon 7 is still my daily driver.

How about EU ROM ?
Thanks for your thread.
I'm asking too.
I went from an old device too (redmi note 4 mido), and i'm a bit lost on flashing process.
Is it possible to :
Install orangefox via fastboot.
Wipe all & format data.
Flash recommend firmware for rom.
Flash custom rom.
Flash gapps.
And boot ?
Any problem with that ? What i'm missing ?
Don't have phone now, I'm waiting for shipping, and will wait for unlock bootloader access. I hope it will more clear and simple when I will discover poco x3.
You can do all those things. What you can't do for example is make a backup and restore your current custom rom.
Oh ok.
Sorry, miss understood your op post.
I was confused because on some custom roms thread, I find strange install instructions, like : dont wipe anything, format data AFTER flash custom roms...
Somes roms requires frimware 12.0.3. What about if phone have a more recent ? Can I downgrade just by flash fw+vendor on recovery before flash rom ?
And some people said they have bricked there devices.
Just to be sure to don't make stupid error on fresh new device, that I can't solve with miflash and fastboot.
Thank you for your reply.
I only clean flash roms, never backup, don't have a lot of apps, and majority have import/export options in-app.
But I hope for you it will be fixed soon.

As @[armitage] pointed, it doesn't enable nandroid backups that I know of.
