Mx Player Audio Passthrough and Sw decoding - MX Player

Hello.
I have mx player on my vorke android tv box. I have the Audio going into a pioneer av receiver and have pass through working, dolby and dts lights up on the receiver, but only in HW mode.
Now the thing I have noticed is the picture is a lot better when using Sw decoding. I don't know why but looks like the processor handles it better, sharper, more detail, only downside is the audio is downmixed to stereo.
Please can someone help, is there a work around to get software decoding on the video, and hardware audio passthrough? I've tried many combinations but cannot seem to get it to work?
Or is there a custom codec that does not downmix dolby and dts 5.1 to stereo ? Any help appreciated.

Hi,
In the latest version, there is an option to prefer audio passthrough over internal decoders & it's enabled by default.
Are you using the latest version of the app?

I'm not sure if I have the latest version. I'll check tonight. Thank you for the response.
Just to clarify. If this option is selected, within the video playback screen at the top right will it still show Sw?

Hi I have version 1.9.9. I have the option use audio passthrough over internal decoders selected. All my sw decoders chosen, but video still only plays back in hw allowing passthrough. If I switch to sw whilst playing video, the audio is down sampled to stereo.
By default the video always opens in hw. Should it not be opening sw with passthrough enabled?

Do you want me to choose SW from the settings or from within the video play area (top right)?

Just clear the history & reset the MX Player settings from Settings » General.
Now open the video in which you are getting audio passthrough in HW & not in HW+ or SW.
Change the decoder from the Title Bar of the playback screen. Check both HW+ & SW. If audio passthrough is not working, immediately open menu > help > bug report. Save the report & share here.

Our developers are working on it. In some devices pass through won't work with third-party implementations.
Looks like MX Player couldn't detect the connection status of HDMI. Does it work with any other apps?

Because, HW decoder uses mediaplayer function implemented on Android itself. Pass through is automatically done by the system. HW+ & SW are MX player's implementations. If it can't detect HDMI, it may not be able to pass the audio.
Our developers are investigating about it. We will try our best to improve the same.
Does any other app work with audio pass through? I suspect it's a limitation from the box.

Thanks for the help. Only other player I have tried is vlc and doesn't seem to have passthrough working. Would Netflix count? If it was a limitation from box wouldn't that mean hw would not work with passthrough? I find it a little confusing. Or is hw still software passthrough only programmed by android, mx player feature still does not work for all systems?
Could it be the hdmi cable? High speed etc? I think I may be using a newer cable.

Any other help you can recommend?

I have just answered for the similar question on another thread.
HW decoder is using mediaplayer implementation which is built on the system itself. Audio passthrough is done by the system itself. But, Third-party apps mostly depend on the APIs provided by android. They can't directly access the hardware. MX Player will try to detect the capability of the HDMI receiver. If it's not supported or not reporting properly, then Audio pass-through won't be used.

On my android tv ac3 5.1 is not working.
I dont know where is the pass through setting, or it's automatic, but it's not working.
In archos player/kodi/spmc I could find the pass through setting, and it's work.
Am I do something wrong, or I have to wait for the developers?

I have recommended the above radio as it is the version shipped in the RUU with the base ROM, Although a radio update is not 100% required, I always recommend you match your radio with your ROM as each ROM contains specific ril's (Radio Interface Layer's), using a "non matched" radio could have a negative effect on.. Q: How do I flash this ROM?
Requirements
You will first need to ROOT your DHD.
Apply Radio S-OFF/, S-OFF
Install Clockwork Recovery: The easiest way is to root your phone as above and download Rom Manager from the Market, which has an option to install C'Work Recovery.
Once you have done as above
Drop LeeDrOiD_HD_V1.Xx.zip on you SD card
Check the MD5# matches the one in post 1#
Ensure you have more than 40% Charge & Unplug your DHD.
Boot into recovery (either via rom manager or by powering up with the vol- button held)
Select "backup&restore" then backup your existing ROM. (usually referred to as a "Nandroid" backup)
If you want a clean install, scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" (this step is recommended but not always required)
Select flash zip from SD card
Select the LeeDrOiD_HD_V1.Xx.zip
Wait for the flashing process to complete and reboot

FYI. It is recommended that you flash radio 26.04.02.17_M2 to work the LeeDroid base 1.72 Roms effectively, failure to do this may result in poor battery, Wifi & mobile connectivity performance.

A2SD+
Q: What is A2SD+
A:
A2SD+ Moves your apps & Dalvik cahcheto a hidden EXT partition on your MicroSD
You will be required to format you SD card with 2 partitions as laid out below
How do i set up my MicroSD ready for A2SD+
A:
Backup all data on you SD card (this will be Formatted)
The card should be formatted with your standard FAT32 partition 1st followed by an EXT3 partition (I would recommend a minimum 512mb)
Linux users use GParted or a similar software.
For everyone else I would recommend using Rom Manager or CWM
Once you have downloaded ROM manager from the market, open the app and click partition SD Card, Select your EXT size and set 0mb for swap
Restore your data to your SD.
Flash the A2SD+ Patch
Boot << Please be aware, 1st boot may take a while depending on how many apps you have installed.

Vdd levels sysfs interface
This mod was created by snq- for my Classic desire builds.
The vdd levels interface allows you to adjust cpu voltages on the fly, you can either do this via terminal, Gscript or by dropping a script in init.d.... The following script is an example with vdd levels increased by 25mV on all frequencies
you can adjust these values accordingly by ammending the 2nd string to any value between min 750mV max 1350mV, these values will only be persistent on reboot if you have a script in the /system/etc/init.d folder with the below syntax
usage:
query: (output: first column: frequency (kHz), second column: vdd* (mV))
#!/system/bin/sh
#
#CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_VDD_LEVELS
echo '245000 925' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '422400 950' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '460800 975' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '499200 975' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '576000 1000' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels

*: vdd values must be a multiple of 25 (enforced by the interface; the regulator doesn't accept other values - found out in the hard way)
please note that the values set through this interface will only be written to the acpu table - they will only become effective when the specific frequency is (re)set by cpufreq
i took the input parser from iscaela's code - thanks for it
do not apply this patch if you plan to use avs
to query the constraints of the regulator ("max_microvolts", "min_microvolts") or the voltage currently supplied to the cpu ("microvolts" (uV)):

Other useful tips, tricks & possible issues
Q: How do I remove /system applications that I don't want or need?
A: For the above there are several options.
Please take care when deleting HTC proprietary apk's, there are a lot of dependancies in HTC ROM's.. NANDROID BACKUP 1st
Option 1: Remove them from the zip prior to flashing the ROM, this is best done with either Winrar or z7zip, DO NOT EXTRACT THE ROM, simply navigate to the folder within the zip and delete the apk's.
Option 2: Download Root Explorer from the market, navigate to the folder and hit mount R/W then delete the apk's.
Option 3: Use adb or OtADB(an extremely handy ADB GUI).

Additional FAQ's, tips & tricks By prateekgujral
Q: I want to run a software/hardware check on my DHD.
A: Dial *#*#3424#*#*
Q: I put the .apk on my SD card but how do I now Install?
A: You will need a file explorer, use Astro (in LeeDroid ROM) or download one from the Market. Using it, go to the location on the SD Card where you have put the .apk and click to install.
Q: Can I format my SD card? How?
A: Yes, you can! Be sure to back up the app data folders, otehrwise you may experience some problems with some applications. Connect the phone to the PC in disk drive mode. From MY computer on your PC, locate the phone drive, and format.
Q: I am unable to assign a ringtone to contact!
A: This is a typical HTC issue. The alternative is to open the Music app from all programs, select the song, click on the capacitive menu button and select set as ringtone.. follow further. (Thanks to LeeDroid)
Q: I cannot adjust the pic size while assigning it to a contact, the pinch to zoom doesnt work.
A: If you press and hold the corner of the box that appears on the pic while doing the above, ou can actually adjust the size of the pic to be shown. This is the only was known at the moment. (Discovered by prateekgujral.)

A: Setting> Sounds> (Scroll down) to Vibrate feedback << un-check
(Note: If you uncheck this you will loose vibration everywhere, even on the capacitive buttons.)
Q: The sounds on my DHD are quite low.
A: Check in Settings> Sounds> Volume
Q: I need ringtones/ notification tones on the system.
A: The best way to do so is before flashing open the zip (donot extract). Go to /system/media/audio - Drop your .mp3 into the respective folders.
Remember > You have not extracted the .zip, so once you drop it and close the zip, it will be there. Now flash as normal.
Q: Some programs are not responding, DHD is getting slow.
A.
1. Try rebooting (Normal).
2. Check the third party installations and compatibility.
3. Second last resort: Factory re-set and reflash the LeeDroid Rom.
4. Last resort: Full Wipe and flash the LeeDroid ROM.
Q: My Mobile data is not working.

Good to see the LeeDroid ROM in HD I`ll be downloading once i get home.
what a legend
Woohooo....here come's the legend. Cant believe I am using both LeeDroid for my both DESIRE....
can we use the plain Desire's boot animations?
Oh Lee, it would be nice if you could include the battery percentage in your rom?? Is it possible?? or you have to flash them after flashing the ROM??
(maaan this "uploading "is a PITA) hurry
Good to see some Desire users coming along!
As usual progress will be made folks, I will keep a record of all requests in my "to do" list.
I have yet to go into detail with snq- and the guys, but there is a good chance the HD build will be following the same path as the Desire build, all mods ported across & a HD section on the mini-site
May the droid be with you Lee

FAQ
Q: How do I flash this ROM?
Requirements
You will first need to ROOT your DHD.
Apply Radio S-OFF/, S-OFF
Install Clockwork Recovery: The easiest way is to root your phone as above and download Rom Manager from the Market, which has an option to install C'Work Recovery.
Once you have done as above
Drop LeeDrOiD_HD_V3.0.X.zip on you SD card
Check the MD5# matches the one in post 1#
Ensure you have more than 40% Charge & Unplug your DHD.
Boot into recovery (either via rom manager or by powering up with the vol- button held)
Select "backup&restore" then backup your existing ROM. (usually referred to as a "Nandroid" backup)
If you want a clean install, scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" (this step is recommended but not always required)
Select flash zip from SD card
Select the LeeDrOiD_HD_V3.0.X.zip
Wait for the flashing process to complete and reboot
Click to collapse
Q: What is A2SD+
A:
A2SD+ Moves your apps & Dalvik cahche to a hidden EXT partition on your MicroSD

#!/system/bin/sh
#
#CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_VDD_LEVELS
echo '245000 925' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '422400 950' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '460800 975' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '499200 975' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels

Probably a silly question, but is Facebook.apk in /data/app or in /system/app? Reason I'm asking, is that the Facebook for Android widget is pretty much useless in LeeDrOiD 2.2.9 (it never updates, apart from on reboot). But in the Gingerbread by mike, it's been updating as it should all day, so figured it might have something to do with where it's installed
Apart from that, looking forward to coming "home" to LeeDrOiD for Gingerbread
Inspire???
Will this work on Inspire 4g?
OMG, very nice. Thanks.
Will UOT Kitchen work with this latest base?
http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
I don't like the default battery bar, so I can replace it , worked with the previous 2.3.3 base.
Thanks for all the hard work.
Any chances of including rotatable home screen patch

I guess only time will tell lol. I just know it's in /data/app on this ROM and it's been fine all day there. No idea if it's just a lucky coincidence or something though, but I highly doubt it.
Oh lol, I was too quick to download it I guess , any ETA on the upload? Or how big is the zip supposed to be?

FAQ
Q: How do I flash this ROM?
Requirements
You will first need to ROOT your DHD.
Apply Radio S-OFF/, S-OFF
Install Clockwork Recovery: The easiest way is to root your phone as above and download Rom Manager from the Market, which has an option to install C'Work Recovery.
Once you have done as above
Drop LeeDrOiD_HD_V5.0.X.zip on you SD card
Check the MD5# matches the one in post 1#
Ensure you have more than 40% Charge & Unplug your DHD.
Boot into recovery (either via rom manager or by powering up with the vol- button held)
Select "backup&restore" then backup your existing ROM. (usually referred to as a "Nandroid" backup)
If you want a clean install, scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" (this step is recommended but not always required)
Select flash zip from SD card
Select the LeeDrOiD_HD_V5.0.X.zip
Wait for the flashing process to complete and reboot
Click to collapse
Q: What is A2SD+
A:
A2SD+ Moves your apps & Dalvik cahche to a hidden EXT partition on your MicroSD

#!/system/bin/sh
#
#CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_VDD_LEVELS
echo '245000 925' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '422400 950' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '460800 975' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '499200 975' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels

First of all, thanks for this release. It's good to know that LeeDroid will still be a player for my DHD which I plan to keep until the end of the year.
I will definitely download and test this build this week. However, I think I will find it rather hard to switch from Sense 3.5 back to Sense 3. There are just too many small improvements to overlook.
I'm hoping that we could have a Sense 3.5 or even better an ICS LeeDroid ROM on our DHD sometime before summer. Who knows, I may just decide to keep my DHD a little longer if that happens
Thanks Lee! at last!
Kinda understand the "Wants for sense 3.5", and I can kinda appreciate them (although it didnt blow my mind as I still have 3.0 on my Evo )... will see what I can do guys n gals

Q: What is A2SD+
A:
A2SD+ Moves your apps & Dalvik cahche to a hidden EXT partition on your MicroSD

#!/system/bin/sh
#
#CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_VDD_LEVELS
echo '245000 925' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '422400 950' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '460800 975' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '499200 975' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '576000 1000' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels
echo '652800 1025' > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels

*: vdd values must be a multiple of 25 (enforced by the interface; the regulator doesn't accept other values - found out in the hard way)
please note that the values set through this interface will only be written to the acpu table - they will only become effective when the specific frequency is (re)set by cpufreq
i took the input parser from iscaela's code - thanks for it
do not apply this patch if you plan to use avs
to query the constraints of the regulator ("max_microvolts", "min_microvolts") or the voltage currently supplied to the cpu ("microvolts" (uV)):
grep '.' /sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-0/0-0048/regulator/regulator.0/*

Q: Can I format my SD card? How?
A: Yes, you can! Be sure to back up the app data folders, otehrwise you may experience some problems with some applications. Connect the phone to the PC in disk drive mode. From MY computer on your PC, locate the phone drive, and format.

Bootanimation me is less important, but if it can be repaired, it would be good.
Fast is OK for me.
