Hi,
If the brightness gesture is not working, Probably you might have*disabled gestures on Settings » Player or Control. Kindly check the settings.
If you have it enabled, MX Player shows the new brightness value and there is no brightness change on the screen, then It may happen when some app runs on the top of MX Player invisibly. By default, Android*takes the*brightness*values from the topmost window. If any widget/floating icons/Invisible screen filters run on the top of MX Player surface it may happen. Kindly disable such apps & try again.
Problem solved!
Thanks man you got it right,i had downloaded a app called control centre because of that I was not able to control the brightness in MX player, when I disabled that app after that brightness control is working like a charm in MX player.
Thanks once again!

There is an app called CpuTemp. If you set there in the settings "Cpu Temp Overlay" what will show the CPU temperature in the status bar then the brightness adjustment of MX Player will not work anymore. Not really correct. It will work as long as you do not start it again. If you start the MX Player a 2 nd time then it will not work.
No idea which app is here to blame. Just want to report it. Took me a while to find it out..
It should be that overlay function in cpu temp.
Im sure that if you disable it, it wont give any problem.
It's as josuearisty said; CpuTemp's overlay is covering MX Player. I don't have any problems with CpuTemp overlays covering my touch controls on 5.0 Nexus 5, and my overlay is in the topleft corner when on landscape.
I sent a message already to the developer of the cpu app. At least people can see here why it might not work anymore. It is not so obvious that this app with the overlay creates the problem.
Brightness slider on left screen swipe. Number indicates brightness is changing but screen brightness is unchanged. Main brightness control works on the player though. Tested on my Z1 Compact 5.1.1. I remembered that brightness slider worked for me when I was in 4.4.4 and 5.0.2. The same thing can also be seen in my brother's Android One running on 6.0. Can anyone else validate this? Thanks!

It's not MX Player's fault. Android always uses the brightness settings of the top most windows. But, some applications like Floating widgets, Power savers, Display Filters & Brightness control will create a invisible window & will try to keep it on the top of all other apps. So, brightness settings of that particular app will be applied. Kindly find the app that always try to run foreground & disable it.
hmm. Come to think of it, both phones have Klock installed as floating widget. Will test it when I get home. Thank you very much.

Knock Lock really did cause the issue. I tried installing the app on another device with 5.0.2 and the brightness control also didn't work. Thanks again.
When I set my phone brightness level all the way down and the open a video with MX player, it will increase the brightness.
Even when I do the gesture to lower it, it still won't go as low as the phones brightness. When I exit the app it goes down again.
The brightness switch in screen settings doesn't seem to influence this.
Let me know how I can help to fix it.

In some devices, app can't set brightness as dark as system's brightness setting. In this case, you have to turn off MX Player's brightness control to get darker screen by checking off Settings > Player > Screen > Brightness.

Like I mentioned, that doesn't seem to work.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 that was running some version of Marshmallow until it was recently updated to Nougat (7.0). Around the same time, my ability to scroll the left side of the screen to change the brightness of a video stopped working. However, I feel like it worked for a little while after the update, but I can't be sure. I'm using MX Player Pro 1.9.17 (ARMv7 NEON).
However, during playback sometimes the screen will suddenly change and become much brighter for about 5 of 7 seconds, then return to whatever it was set at before. This happens without any touch input from me.
Is there anything I can do to return the brightness functionality back to the app rather than the OS? It's significantly more convenient to change it in the app.

I've been using MX Player Pro on my Galaxy Tab S8+ and I recently upgraded to MX Player Pro 1.51.8 from 1.42.13 when I saw that the previous picture-in-picture issues had been fixed. However, I have the "Extra Dim" setting configured on my tablet to use the accessibility shortcut button in the navigation bar to toggle the extra dim feature. With version 1.51.8, when I click the accessibility shortcut button it also clicks on the PiP button in MX Player. Is this something that you can address and compensate for? I went back to 1.42.13 and do not have this issue.
