No icon labels in landscape mode - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Just received Pixel 2, trading in my OG Pixel (maybe). Got everything set up then noticed that if I opt to allow the home screen to rotate, my icon and group labels disappear in landscape mode. I chatted with Fi support and this is what I was told:
Sandhya
I've received your email with screenshots.

It's very strange, had no problem like that with the original Pixel.

P., I understand.

I was glad that you've updated this to us.

I've updated the same to our team who will work on this and will notify you if there is any update and I'm glad to inform you that the phone is at good condition there is no need for you to
worry. We will work on this and add up that feature very soon.

I'm not sure I understand - is this a bug?
Sandhya

Thank you for taking time and updating this which would be taken care.
Sandhya
8:52 AM
This is not a bug.
Sandhya

As I've already updated this to our team they will work on this and add labels to the icons.

We appreciate your support and cooperation with us.
Anyone else experience this?

wow, they seem right on top of this.. :/
same issue here.. I am sure they will get it fixed soon...

Been going around in circles with Fi support on this. They claim that this was intentional but I just cannot fathom why it would be by design. They admit that the issue exists for all the Pixel 2's that they have themselves tested:
"After doing more extensive research and replicating this concern on different Pixel 2 devices, it seems that your phone is working the way it should be. While you are in portrait mode, your phone will display the icons and labels. While you are in landscape mode, your phone will only display the icons on your home screen.
I hope I was able to clear up any confusion."
I know it's not a huge deal but why do this? I have a ton of stuff on my home screens and I'm expected to memorize what every icon and group is for? It has to be a bug or oversight in the coding. Leads me to wonder what other surprises await and whether I should return this thing while I still can and hang on to the OG Pixel.

Well I'll stop my rant. Just installed Nova launcher and that works flawlessly so with that I'll keep the Pixel2 and hope that they fix the launcher someday. And if they don't I'll just carry on with Nova.

Hi Blee00,
Nice application, exactly what I was looking for. Only suggestion at this point that I would make is a brighter color for the icon. Being mostly black in color, it blends into the black notification bar on the HTC Evo and becomes difficult to see (might I suggest yellow with black strips in place of black with white strips?)
Looking forward to future updates and thanks for the great work.
Very good app! Works just the way it should, Just wrote an article about it for the XDA Front Page, should see it online over the weekend
Cheers,
CK
Works great! I'll fiddle with it over the next few days and see how stable it is on my phone.

That is planned for the next version
I was just so happy I managed to get the icon kinda good looking so now Im a bit afraid to fiddle around with it ^^
But I am gonna make something like an icon-picker so u can have different icons for different notes, also change the default icon.
Thanks for the response everyone =)
Great! I have tried several "Post-it" apps and they were all just too much. I'll see how this one works out for me, i love how simple it is.
Thanks!
Hi, I have been using your app for month now and it is my favorite for creating quick reminders or have things that I have a hard time remembering accessible.
If I may have a suggestion:
So far there is the option of having no notification icon or having one for each note.
Aside that having one for each does imo not really add any functionality, on low res devices this quickly fills up the notification area (Though I prefer it to no notification). I personally am all for choice, so I do not suggest taking away any existing features, but it would be a nice option for me to have a single icon with a small number indicating how many notes are stickied to the notification area at the moment. This would help people who do want to sticky lots of notes or who have a low resolution device.
(A different option would be to make it possible by an option to let notifications with the same icon stack.)
In any ways the app is really useful for me, 5*.
nice app! gave it 5 stars and an enthusiastic comment (look for hvoltage)
i do agree with the above poster regarding the color of the sticker. keep it simple or (if you'll fulfill all the requests) you'll end up with a new calendar app at least
thank you!
Awesome! This is just what I have been wanting!
AWESOME!!
i ve been looking for this type of apps for quite a long time for my daily to do list. Great job!!!5/5.....keep it up!!
I love simple apps that just do what they're supposed to. Thanks!
Also, I agree with Rendarion's suggestion about having an option to toggle multiple note icons in the notification area.
I suggest the next update include the ability to have web links in the title and comment fields. That would make this 6 out of 5 stars. Currently 4.5 in my book. Keep going with this, it will be a good one to have.
Thanks.

I second these suggestions about the icons!
Just saw this from the XDA front page. Great app! I've been wanting something like this for a while
Would love to see ability to add a new note from the taskbar
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Thanks for all the replies =)
So fun to see that people might enjoy and use the things I've created.
Other icons are coming, hopefully in the coming week. Im away this weekend so I cant work anything now, but Im soon home again and then I can start working! =)
Thanks for the post on the front-page of XDA-developers, doubled the downloads on one day, thats always nice
Awesome Application dude.
Hat's off to ya
Great application, to the point and simple. Keep up the good work!
New version out. Added more icons and custom times.
Sorry for this, but where can i get this app?? I thought it would be attached to this thread??
EDIT: Sorry again, found the answer to that... How stupid of me..

[PORT][Progress Thread] CM Notification Window Power Control Widget for Sense ROMs

EDIT 11/11/10: See Here for the official release thread.
EDIT 11/8/10: See Here for latest progress / update
Okay, wanted to give you guys a sneak peek of a port I just started working on this past weekend, for integrating the CyanogenMod Notification's panel power control widget into Sense based ROMs.
Short of the rotary lockscreen I originally ported back in the day, this has been one of the most intensive ports I've had to tackle, but it's getting close.
I've got the port to a point where it is mostly functionality (some buttons are not working yet, etc), but as you will see in the quick video demo, the formatting, etc, is all FUBAR'ed.
The formatting issues "should" be relatively easy to fix, my main focus to this point was to get things functional, then worry about pretty-ing it up, etc.
You can see in the video I currently have the widget set to the options for 'Lockscreen|Flashlight|GPS|Silent Mode', and you will see when I toggle the right 2, that the status bar updates accordingly to reflect the change in mode/status, based on the toggle. You can't really see, obviously, the flashlight come on, but it is working as well, in addition to the lockscreen on/off toggle.
Anyway, just a sneak peek. It may be that I never get it fully functional, and this ends up being nothing but a tease, but, I'm pretty persistent... .
Awesome. I just started working on this last week for Zen's ROM. It is a very daunting task. I got everything to show up, but wasn't able to get it functioning. Smali editing sucks. I've also been working on editing the recent apps icons in the notification menu from Zen's ROM (And Desire HD I think) and customizing them to be shortcuts that I use. The recent apps is useless and I'd love to have my shortcuts there instead.
I'll be watching this to see how you make out. I've slowed down on this since I'm waiting to get a new phone.
EDIT: GOOD LUCK!

Thanks. Yes, .smali editing sucks, especially this type, where you can't simply replace smali files and update resource ids, etc, as the two services.jar files are vastly different as it relates to the status bar, so it has been a complex merger of the two.
I'm close, but need a break! I'll probably re-visit this more over the coming weekend, when I have time to dig in. I have more hours invested in this from last weekend than I care to admit, and the wife wasn't very happy with me as a result...
wow js!!!! i really like this feature!!! hope you get it fully functional!!!

VERY cool. I would for sure use this. I'm almost surprised no one has thought of this...it's such a genius idea...for something so obvious haha

I'd have to imagine others have thought of it, now pulling it off of is a different story . It is not a simple task.
I didn't know this existed in CM until I was working on porting a mod I made for hex editing the lockscreen/notification window banner text (carrier) on Sense based ROMs over to CM, which forced me to load CM for testing, then, EUREKA!
Almost wish I hadn't come across it

I'm so glad you got an EVO JsChiSurf. This looks very promising! I was just pouring over the code changes in your rotary lockscreen port the other day to see if I could get it working on my EVO. Long story short, I crapped a brick and put that thought to rest.

Thanks. Yes, the problem with the Rotary lock is, on 2.1, HTC left most of the remnants in place, in 2.2, not so much, so it is going to take more work to pull off.
I think it is possible, but I haven't had the time or motivation to dig in. If someone else doesn't get to it first, it's on my list, but it's more fun to work on new stuff, rather than something I've already done before, so I'm less motivated to do it again .
This will be sweet. I loved it on my Samsung

Thanks. Made some more head way this evening, but still much more to tackle...
This reminds me, I went digging into Sense to get the Mail widget to work in LauncherPro. Boy, what a PIA. I got it to show up and insert, but it wouldn't work. I figure there has to be a way to make it independent. I bet I'd have a lot of time to work on it if I got divorced...
i'm soo glad you got an evo bro. This will be sweet.
This looks amazing. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Awesome man! Thanks for doing this, it is such a nice feature on the Galaxy S and CM 6.1. I hope it works out
Progress Report
Okay guys, getting real close on this port of the CM Power Control Widget for Sense ROMs. The video below will show you how far along I've come with this port. I've pretty much got most of the cosmetics corrected, but still have a few of the widgets to get functional, most notably bluetooh and wifi (don't think it will be an issue, just need to time to dig in).
This port/mod, upon release, requires changes to services.jar, and framework-res.apk, and as such, if you are using custom themes, edits, etc, you'll probably want to wait and see / request for your ROM dev or themer to take this as a base / starting point to integrate into their ROM or theme, as there is simply no way to do it the other way around. There are just too many edits involved to try and do this any other way in order to retain your previous mods / edits.
You'll see in the video that I actually moved the widget bar below the sprint banner / clear button area, rather than the default above. I think it looks better, curious what you guys think.
Also, while CM allows you to turn on/off widget options via the menu/settings area, I don't plan on going that far, and may either just fix it to 6 most popular, or provide a file on your phone that you can manually modify to specify the widgets (up to 6), you want to use.
Looking for opinions, based on the list below, if I were to fix it to 6, hard coded, what 6 in the list of available widgets would be preferred. Available widgets are:
Airplane mode
Auto rotate
Bluetooth
Brightness
Flashlight *
GPS *
Lockscreen *
Mobile Data
Network mode
Sleep
Screen Timeout
Sound (mute) *
Sync
Wifi
*Included in the video demo below.
Some of these I haven't test and am not exactly sure what they do, lol.
Also, curious what you guys think about the addition of toast notifications when a button is pressed (on screen text confirmation / message) and/or haptic feedback when pressed.
That's it for now. Again, getting close to a release soon.
WOW!
This is huge buddy
Awesome job.
My vote goes for:
Bluetooth
Flashlight
GPS
Wifi
Airplane
Brightness
Awesome work btw
I vote
Wifi
Mobile Network
Sound
Bluetooth
Auto Rotate
Lockscreen

Make Google Now Feed home page

Hi everybody. I would like to give an idea here, in case someone with the coding skills I lack may went to give this a go.
I find myself going into google now's feed by swiping to the left. The design of the latest version is in fact very pleasing, with rounded corners and transparencies that let you see the background in between the cards. I would like to suggest making that the home page, so when you tap the home button, you are directed there. But, that can be done already, you might think. Yes, but I would like the dock to stay where itnis, and be able to put folders in it. So your homepage would look like a mix of the normal homepage, but instead of the icons in the main are, it would be google nows feed. Am I asking the impossible? Or have I missed some xposed or otherwise way to don't? Thanks for reading this far. I appreciate the work the deva put into making android the ecosystem it is today.

Status/Notification bar getting gray/overshadowed randomly

Hi everyone. I recently bought a galaxy note 10 plus. It is a huge and beautiful looking smartphone and also have a nice screen but the little cam dot is kind of annoying so I've decided to use one of that specific wallpapers to "hide" the dot. But, for no reason at all, my notification bar always turn gray, like overshadowed or something like this, losing all of the immersion of the screen with the nice wallpapers.
I've tried contact my local Samsung support but they doesn't even understood my problem.
Is there a way to fix it ?
i've tried to post a Image to Indicate the problem but I'm a new user so the forum don't let me do it. if anyone know a Way to share this and get the real situation, will help.
Thanks

Floating button after android 12 update

Hello everybody,
I just updated my Velvet to android 12.
I'm happy and it seems faster than before, but now i see a floating button that is really annoying and i'd like to get rid of it.
I checked for other threads but i didn't find any solution that works for me.
I checked in accessibility settings but no fix.
Do you know what else can i check?
Have a nice day
Giacomo
Hi Giacomo,
I have a lg velvet 5g that's running version 12 of android, I haven't seen the 'floating button' that you are referring to, but I found this article on a different website:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/qffjzo
see if this helps. Good Luck & Stay Safe
David
Hi David, thanks for your answer.
I saw that page but unfortunately it didn't fix my problem.
Do you have any special feature enabled? for example blue light filter, larger font or similar?i really don't understand how to fix it .
I have just blue light filter and larger font , no other accessibility features.

There has to be some way to resolve your issue, so far I haven't seen anyone discussing this same issue, now I'm really wondering what's going on with your phone. There's another option that you might want to check out, I've used it myself and have been satisfied with it: https://twitter.com/LGUSSupport . I don't know if you ever use twitter.com or not, but if so & decide to follow the group that I've included in this reply, I feel sure that one of their agents would be able to assist you. Also, here's yet another option you could try: https://www.reddit.com/r/LGVelvet/ . Good Luck
Thank you very much David, i'll check everything and i'll let you know.
Hi David, yesterday I wrote to LG support by Twitter.i'll write here every update so I could help if other users have the same problem as me
I figured out how to remove the button: i disabled "android accessibility suite" and it finally disappeared. Thanks
