What's wrong with this? - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

I recently changed the core board in my px3 unit to px5 and now it does this

I've also lost Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities too
Anyone knows what's going on here?
Thanks in advance

wifi & BT chip

Hi,
Is there by any chance a possibility of replacing wifi/BT chip on desire s? Extracting it from old desire s mobo? A tech is offering to fix the chip by heating it or replace if he cant fix it. I'm just not sure if its possible.
Does anyone knows?
Thanks,

I have been wondering the same, and after searching for hours on this forum, I'm surprised. Is putting Nougat on the Px5 not possible? That seems like a weird limitation. I'm trying to decide what unit to buy, and I can't believe that the choice is between older hardware and newer os, versus newer hardware and older os.
The ability to upgrade is mainly limited by hardware drivers for certain kernel versions.
There are some rumors about Android 8 for PX5. Stay tuned.

Yes, I thought this was weird too. While PX5 board is faster it seems all the OS development is going to PX3. We already now have 7.1.2.
I've also noticed that lots of PX3 boards are now coming with 2GB of RAM as standard. One thinks maybe it was just a RAM issue and manufacturers don't want to make a more expensive board when all they really need to do is an an extra 1GB RAM to existing PX3s.

Has anyone tried the android 7.1 2gb 32gb octo core units yet??

Posted in wrong thread sorry
As title im thinking of buying this unit
http://www.autopumpkin.co.uk/vw-ste...ation-for-vw-skoda-seat-series-octa-core.html
for my octavia vrs and wondered if anyone has opinions on them as they are octo with 7.1??
Or would the android 6.0 4gb! 32gb octo core be better / more stable??????
like this one

cheers
This looks pretty weird to me. The hardware facts (Octo-Core [Big.Little], 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM) sounds like a normal PX5 unit. PX5 however is not available with Android 7. Only Android 6 is available.
The description also says "OS: Android 7.1 Marshmallow" which is kind of wrong since Android 7 is Android N (Nougat), not Marshmallow.
I guess if you order it you will get a PX5 unit with Android 6 on it even if all pictures seem to be indicating Android 7.1.
Alternatively you might get a PX3 unit with Android 7.1 on it. There are PX3 units with 2GB RAM as of my knowledge. But then the Ocata-Core description is wrong. So either of them is wrong or you would get some complete custom design.
Anyway there are rumors that soon there will be Android 8/O/Oreo available for PX5. So I think this is the best way to do. It also seems that the first PX5 units with 4GB RAM are about to appear on the market.

This is true. My reply was more about the first link with technical data which does not seem to comply to PX5 units or are invalid anyaway (Android 7 isn't Marshmallow).
Likely both units are PX5 based. The second one is pretty sure a normal PX5 unit with 4GB RAM.
I also don't believe we will see any issues on 2GB devices on Oreo. Oreo isn't much more demanding regarding CPU and memory resources than Android 6/M. Also I am personally using this device as a head unit (some navigatin, music, streaming, perhaps some video playback) but no real heavy applications which would require more than 2GB of RAM. Of course there are lots of inefficient apps out there but get real, 2GB is quite a lot of memory.
Looking forward to see the first Oreo releases.
Too bad nobody seems to release the code so we would see much more and better custom ROMs.

Well, this won't be very helpful. I currently own a Subaru Levorg and got something like this here. But it's car specific shaping, no standard 2-DIN form factor. Also it didn't really fit my cars connectors so I fixed it by soldering my own cables. But it's a standard PX5 unit from KLD manufacturer.

No Major issues with it, only minor. Not counting the wrong cable harness as this was an issue of my car not being in any supported list.
So I am mainly suffering from standard PX5/ROM limitations. For example Google Maps in latest version hangs if terminated by auto-shutdown. There is a fix available here but it requires root access to clean the cache of another application.
Also my unit has some audible noise level which is noticeable at low volume levels. Not really an issue while driving but still annoying. The noise seems also to be dependent on touchscreen input. It's a sign of inappropriate filtering inside the unit.
My unit also suffered from very bad WLAN reception initially but this was clearly related to the bad antennas mounted to my device. I did a post about my modifications here. In addition I have meanwhile added some good WiFi Antennas directly into the dash center display which further improved reception.
These units are also known to cause slow WiFi when Bluetooth devices (phones) are connected. In such case the WiFi transfer rate drops to almost 0. Disconnecting Bluetooth helps.
Also there is a know problem called "bluetooth echo" which appears on most MTCD units during bluetooth phone calls. There is a fix available here (again, requires root). For me this is not so important as I don't use Bluetooth calling in my car regularly.
Some devices seem to have a really bad integrated microphone. Attaching an external mic usually helps. My car has ana amplified microphone built-in which I used. It works pretty well. I am not using the built-in microphone from the head unit therefore.
There seem to be unresolved issues about mounting portable mass storage devices. The re-mount after resume seems to take several minutes. Can't comment on this really as my unit only has the GPS card and I rarely use USB/GPS storage to store some music currently.
I also do have DAB+. It works pretty well. I initially bought my head unit with a DAB+ box like this (black metal box with 8-pin proprietary connector). However this never worked and the DAB+ app did not recognize it. Then I went for a simple Joying USB DAB+ receiver like this. This worked very well. Except my antenna setup with stock amplified FM antenna and splitter did not work very well. My recommendation here: Don't waste your money on splitters and amplifiers, get yourself a decent DAB+ roof antenna, install it and you will be happy. I spent lots of time on this as I didn't want to touch my rooftop antenna. Finally I was bout to trash DAB+ as it was just no fun with the bad reception. Replacing the roof antenna changed this completely. I have mounted the Antennentechnik Bad Blankenburg (ABB) 3785.01 with FM, GPS and DAB+ including 20dB gain on DAB+ band. Since then I have very stable reception and I am happy with DAB+ and never used FM again.
There was another issue with the DAB+ application included with my head unit. Always when it was sent to the background the music playback was stuttering. So the application only works when in foreground. Very annoying. However for this there is a modded/fixed version available here.
Hmm, this looks all very complex and many issues. But I am still happy with it. The Android HU allows me to run my own software or use anything available on the play store or even develop some custom solution myself. Currently I am mainly using it for DAB+ playback as well as offline navigation using "Here WeGo" or online navigation using Google Maps.
I am still hoping for the sources to be released so we could make these units a thousand times more useful - but this might remain a dream.
thanks for the excellent info posted there much appreciated. ill probably wait a few months to see what new unit appear but i guess they will have there annoying little issues too. I mainly want mine for gps nav and music via sd or usb and dab radio. not neading bluetooth but will connect to my phone hotspot for online nav.
thanks for the info mate.
Just within the last month RK3368/PX5 units have appeared with what looks like a slightly updated version of MM (different apps), these are the units in the second link.
The 7.1.1 Marshmallow (lol) units are either Allwinner or Tegra based units but theyre not MTCD/E units.
Oreo is being worked on for MTCD/E RK3368/PX5 untis, but its not out yet.
I think the 8 core Android 7.1 units are Allwinner T8. They've been popping up in China the last few weeks
So what does this all mean with the allwinner t8 good or not . I'm lost lol.

This tablet uses the same chip. I'd wait for review on a head unit since software has a lot to say on performance also, but it looks a lot faster than the old ones

It means that they have Allwinner processors.
It also means that theyre not MTCD/E units, so youre in the wrong forum for advice about them.

Like most sellers, Pumpkin have very little idea of what theyre actually selling, theyve just told you the number of cores and the ARM version of the cpu, not the manufacturer.
Eonon GA2168 T8 already rooted
Got my octacore T8 32/2 with nougat 7.1.2 , love it, was no need to root as it already was .
It takes everything i throw at it, all other head units i owned i had to root and su but Igo and all my other apps who normaly need rooting just fired up
when checking with root checker it says rooted
Tried to post screenshots from CPU-Z here but to much work

Eonon are sellers only, there are no "Eonon" units, they sell units from a several different manufacturers, the MCU will tell you who makes your unit.
And youre in the wrong forum - this forum is for MTCD and MTCE units, there are no T8 MTCD/E units, try the Android Headunits General forum.

Ok i now that Eonon is not a "factory" the model is a eonon GA2168 made for eonon with Eonon seal and labels on. can not find simular models from any of the other sellers, only at eonon website..
sorry did not know this was wrong thread as it started out with octacore and a lot of T8 posts.
Thanks for advice to the right forum.
Have a jolly merry christmas

You use the MCU to identify your unit, using that and going through all the threads in the Android Headunits general forum should help you identify your unit.

MTCE PX3 XRC | Bluetooth calls problem, 2 second delay

Hi xda people,
I have a px3 (800x480 W) with an XRC2 MCU, which is the latest for my model, and a custom ROM (although that doesn't really matter for this issue). I have a problem a really weird problem on bluetooth, that happened while on stock ROM and now on the custom ROM as well:
If I'm starting the call, people hear me with a 2-second lag. It is infuriating, as it seems that I'm talking in slow motion. If it is a received call, it doesn't happen.
Anyone with the same problem that can help me? Or anyone with some kind of idea on how to solve it?
Px3 (800x480 W)
MTCE_XRC2_v2.84.1
BT Module: MD725
Phones tested: HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro, Xiaomi Mi A2
No one has this problem or is able to help? Is this a defective unit?
Thanks!

MTCD - Swap Radio Module TDA7706 for TDA7786

Hi,
Currently I have the TDA7706 for FM reception and I find the reception very bad, even with an antenna powered by 12 volts.
I would like to know if I can make a swap between the TDA7706 and the TDA7786 on my MTCE KGL unit ? (my mcu is a KGL v2.80 and i have a PX3 proc)
Looking at the schematics for the 2 TDAs, I noticed that there is no difference. I wanted to know if someone has already made this change ?
I also ask myself the following question :
- Should I change other parts to improve FM ?
- Will the MCU detect the new IC TDA7786 ?
Thank you for your help and excuse me for my english. I am French.
Regards.

See my thread in Hardware section. Modification is not worthwhile.
In your hardware section, you discuss the change between a TDA7786 and a TEF6686.
But I have a TDA7706 whose FM reception is rotten. RDS works poorly and FM sensitivity is very low.
