I need either the stock build prop file or ... - General Questions and Answers

I need to know if there's a latest firmware I can install for this device...or is there perhaps any 3rd party ROMs available?
I'm gonna be selling one of my devices and getting the new version upon release so I'm using this device a friend let me have who didn't use it. They did root with kingroot (I switched it to SU. ) But they apparently modified the build prop because when I unrooted and attempted to install the latest software updates I got an error during the installation process indicating the build prop was altered and thats why the update failed.
Any advice ?

[Q] OTA update Fails to update 2.3.6 firmware

A few months ago, I loaded 2.3.6 firmware on phone. It is stock gingerbread with root from oden file all_in_one_odin_ep4d. Last week I received an OTA update. The update fails to load and leaves me at the screen with the white triangle with yellow exclamation point. I pulled the battery and rebooted. Today, the update came back. Still no go. I think the update is incompatible with the software on the phone.
Can someone tell me:
1. What is in the update? Is it going to remove root and allow Verizon to see that I 3rd party tether? Are they suddenly going to slap a tether package on my bill? Is it even worth installing?
2. If it’s not worth installing, can I tell my phone that I don’t want it by making it think that the update is already installed?
3. If the update is worth installing, should I wait for an oden install that contains the update or do I do something to the phone to allow it to receive the OTA update? If I do opt for the OTA what must I do to allow it to load?
Being somewhat novice when it comes to loading software on phones, is there a good FAQ out there that lists all the different loads, with what they contain and explanations of those components. Right now, voodoo, Peanut butter and jelly… buzzwords.

All in one package that you installed came with custom kernel. You need to flash a FP1 debloated/bloated/rooted rom and the FP1 kernel. Since you have the custom rom+kernel you can not use OTA update. Some people (like me) prefer to do it clean by go back to stock EP4d rom, then do the full update to FP1, then flash what ever custom rom out there, like Eclipse or debloated etc...More on how to do it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560117
Sooner or later you should be on the latest version any way specially for support from XDA.
Thanks for setting me straight. Let’s see if I understand your info.
1. I have a custom ROM and need to use the stock one to be able to get the update to install.
2. Once I install the stock ROM and get the update, I could reinstall the same custom ROM I have now.
3. Returning my phone to stock will remove root access so I can get the update
How do I get back to stock everything, update the phone and then add only root access. I don’t know enough about stock ROMs to know why I’d want or need one.

1. Yes, you need EP4D stock rom to get OTA update.
2. Yes, once you on stock FP1, you can use flash eclipse 2.0 (which build from FP1 rom). Once done you will have FP1 eclipse with FP1 stock kernel.
3. If you have pure stock EP4D and rooted, you can take the OTA, but yours is not.
You have 2 Options to upgrade:
1. Flash back to pure stock EP4D, OTA upgrade to FP1 then flash pre-rooted FP1 eclipse 2.0 rom. Then flash cwm.
2. Flash FP1 pre-rooted eclipse 2.0 rom, flash cwm, flash FP1 kernel, flash FP1 radio.
Hope this help, don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions.
Ok. That makes sense, sort of…
I’m going to give #1 a try since I found the stock EP4D load on the page you recommended. I will then be able to get the OTA update and have a stock phone with FP1.
I will then follow #5 on that page to root my pure stock FP1 and make CWM stick after reboot. Do you know if there is a free program that will let me change the file permissions of “install-recovery.sh” like root explorer?

root browser lite or ES file explorer. Both you can get from the Market (google play).
Thanks for the help. I got the phone updated successfully. I ended up having to load eclipse ROM on the phone after the OTA update as the other method with superuser update and superuser fixer failed to deliver root access.
couple of questions:
1. I can no longer set multi-screen wallpaper. How do I restore this functionality?
2. I can't answer my phone using the puzzle pieces. what am I missing?
Mike
PS thanks again for all the help. Sometimes I just need a push in the right direction.
Now that i've had a chance to play with the phone... The market keeps crashing. Anyone know what to do?

[Q] Random Question

Hey guys I have a random stupid question. My phone is rooted and I have safestrap recovery installed but I haven't messed with it in a while. I have a few roms on it but I for some reason I can't remember I have just been using the stock rom. I've been getting prompted for system update for a long time now but it errors out when I install it (probably because of being rooted). How can I manually install the latest "stock rom". What is the actual name for the stock rom? Right now I'm running 9.16.6.XT926.Verizon.en.US which is android version 4.1.2. Since I haven't messed with it in over a year I would imagine there's quite a few updates to the one I'm running. So basically my question is what is the official name for the stock rom (I keep wanting to call it firmware but I'm pretty sure thats not it) and where can I get the latest and greatest. Thanks!

Yeah, the update is probably failing because of something you did with root access. However, before you decide to update, I would unlock your bootloader. You're still on a system version that can be unlocked. Once you're unlocked, you can FXZ to the newest update, flash an aftermarket recovery, and then flash a SU.zip to gain root.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vh04gc3ysgib7i9/VRZ_XT926_9.8.1Q-94-1_CFC.xml.ziphttps://www.dropbox.com/s/vh04gc3ysgib7i9/VRZ_XT926_9.8.1Q-94-1_CFC.xml.zipYou are on the last software version which allowed bootloader unlocking. So if you haven't already done so, you should unlock first. Here's a screenshot showing the current software version. Also included link to the zip.

Install OxygenOS 2.2.1

Hey there, I am using OnePlus2 since october 2015 and it came with OxygenOS 2.0.1 installed. However, I have tried to check for updates several times, but, it always says that I have the latest version of firmware installed which is not. I have checked my root status and it is not rooted. So, why am I not getting the lates updates from time to time?
Is there any way to install the latest firmware manually? Definitely there is but as I have never rooted any mobile yet so I will be thankful if you can instruct me how to install it step by step. It is highly appreciated if you can provide the screenshots too.

[EASY GUIDE]How To Download & Install OTA Updates On Note 5 While Rooted

With the impending Nougat update coming soon for our device I thought it might be useful to put this information out there for those rooted individuals that want to not only be able to check for new updates in their device, but to download and possible install them too. Keep in mind though that, while you'll definitely be able to see and download the updates with this method, the actual installation may not work, especially if you have a custom kernel or the Xposed framework installed. If you rooted with SuperSU and are running the stock kernel like me however, then this should work just fine. Otherwise, just flash the stock kernel and uninstall Xposed before installing the update.
REQUIREMENTS:
Note 5
Stock Kernel(so the update works)
Stock Firmware(Only in some cases, may work with custom roms depending on how stock-based they are.)
Xposed Framework Installed(to get the update)
Flashfire App Installed(to install the update)
DISCLAIMER: As usual, I accept no responsibilty for what happens to your device. Though, in my opinion, thanks to ODIN, it's nearly impossible to brick a Samsung, anything you do to your device is obviously at your own risk.
(NOTE: This method does NOT work with Nougat roms right now, as there is currently no Xposed framework for Nougat.)
STEPS:
(Skip to step #5 if you've already installed the Xposed Framework.)
1) Go to Wanam's "Xposed for Samsung" page.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960
2) Download and install the "Xposed Installer" app linked in the OP.
3) Then click on "Download" in the OP. Click on the latest version(currently "87.1"), then click on "Marshmallow" and download the zip file that says "ARM 64" to your device. Also, download the file that says "Xposed Uninstaller" from the link above to your device.
4) Reboot into TWRP, click "Install" and flash the 87.1 Xposed zip file and reboot.
-You now have Xposed.-
5) Open the Xposed app and click on "Download".
6) Press the search button and search for a module called "XTouchWiz" and install the latest version of it, then check the box next to "XTouchWiz" in the "Modules" section of Xposed to activate it.
7) Open the app and click on "Security Hacks" and make sure that "Fake System Status" is checked. This will set your device status to "Official" instead of "Custom". Afterwards reboot.
-You should now be able to check for updates.-
8) Open "Settings", click on "About Device", then click on "Download updates manually" to check for updates now.
9) If there is an update, then download it, but once the download is finished DO NOT INSTALL IT yet. If you do the regular install while rooted, then the installation may fail. It also may fail if you have the Xposed framework installed so you're going to want to uninstall that now. You're not going to be able to use it on Nougat at this point anyway.
10) Reboot into TWRP and flash the "Xposed Uninstaller" file that we downloaded earlier. Then reboot your device.
(NOTE: If you have a custom kernel installed, then you may want to flash the stock one back in ODIN first too or the install also may not work.)
-You should now be without Xposed or a custom kernel.-
11) Download the "Flashfire" app by Chainfire from the Play Store and open it. Once the app is opened it should automatically detect your downloaded OTA update. Just click on "Ok" to open the flash menu, then click on "Flash" to install the update.
-You should now have your new OTA update installed.-
12) You can now flash back any custom kernels or whatever. If for any reason the update failed then all you have to do is download the stock firmware and flash it back in ODIN, then just take the update regularly. You shouldn't lose any data or anything in the process.
Anyhow, I hope this has been helpful. Be sure to hit the THANKS button below if you found this helpful. Thank you!

If anyone wants to update manually to the new firmware version N920TUVS4DQA2(from February 01) in ODIN btw, then I linked it on this resource post here too:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...esource-firmwareqa2-easy-root-method-t3555500
Also, anyone who wants to try and root with the SuperSU method that I mentioned above(rather than the modified kernel method), just to ensure you can still check for and install OTA updates after rooting by using this guide, then I also linked an easy way to do that at the link above.
I don't know about you guys, but personally I can't wait. Should be soon!
Android Nougat for the SM-N920C was released in Turkey a few days ago in case any of you aren't aware, which means that it's only a matter of weeks probably before the rest of us get it!
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/125835/N920CXXU3CQC7_N920COJV3CQC7_TUR/
Just a heads up, a couple of days ago T-Mobile released a new update N920TUVU4DQC2 for the SM-N920T variant of the Note 5. The update is not Nougat yet. It's still only Android 6.0.1, with the update content listed as "Various System Improvements". Since Nougat is coming out soon I'm not sure why they didn't just wait for that release to include any improvements. Maybe it's meant to help with the transition into Nougat somehow?
Anyhow, I thought I'd mention it in case any T-Mobile users out there, who are rooted and maybe running stock based custom roms, were unaware that there was a new firmware update available for download. You can refer to the OP for more details on how to download and install that update while rooted.
If you have another Note 5 variant, be sure to check the website for your service provider to see if you have any new updates you can be installing as well.
UPDATE: The Nougat update has already arrived for Sprint, AT&T and Verizon devices. The T-Mobile website now says that the Nougat update just went from being in the "Manufacturer Development" stage to the "Testing" stage, which means it could be tonight or maybe up to next week sometime.
Hey Man thankyou for the update's and the awesome tutorial.

Manually update to One UI 2.1

Hey all.
For whatever reason it has, my phone hasn't gotten the One UI 2.1 and April security patch update yet. I'm having some weird issues with my navigating bar and can't run NavStar to try and fix it unless I'm running the latest version of One UI. I know I can download the latest update manually (got software from this forum that pulls from Samsung's servers, don't remember the name off the top off my head) and flash it using Odin, but I run the risk of wiping my phone if I flash the CSC file.
Is there a way I can download a zip of the firmware update that I can flash from official recovery?
