Titanium backup just creates a "file" instead of a folder. - Samsung Galaxy S8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

I have tried changing the location, rebooting my phone, changing the file to a .zip, etc. but nothing is working. When i change it to a zip and try to open it, it says the archive is damaged. When i delete the backup file and then recreate a backup, its still just a "File" type of file. Am i missing a setting or something? No matter where i place the backup it's the same thing. Im trying to turn it into a folder so i can drag in other backup files. I keep breaking the phone due to the locked bootloader, and the other 3 times titanium made a folder with all the backup contents in it.
P.S. I dont want to back it up to something like google drive. Someone always says to do that on every thread i look at

Help restoring in TWRP

I've wiped everything in TWRP (factory reset; advanced -> dalvik/system/data/internal/cache; format data), then pushed my backup to /sdcard/. When I go into Restore to reload the backup, it just shows a big gray square with no items. I've tried pushing it to several different locations and restarting TWRP. I finally landed on having the backup folder (named something like 8780a9ypwt98h34) inside the folder called 'TWRP' that TWRP creates upon being booted the first time.
But nothing shows up in the Restore. It's just a big blank square box, where you can tell there should be navigation items like folders and files listed.
Why isn't the backup showing? What do I have to do?
EDIT: just realized TWRP has a file manager. Where do I put the backup (it's a folder named something like 9807a9h9f83fh398). Also, is there a reason that instead Restore listing items like a file manager (like what you see in TWRP when you hit install, or when you go through the TWRP file manager), all it shows is a gray box with no text in/around it?
Hi, I've been using PhilZ recovery for a while but before that I used TWRP and might be able to help if you still need it.
If I'm remembering correctly, TWRP looks for backups in one location and doesn't allow you to navigate to a different directory so it's important to get your backup in just the right spot for it to be recognized.
When I was trying to do exactly what you are, what I found that worked for me was to start by doing a backup before trying to copy the files I actually wanted to restore. Doing that backup to start with allows TWRP to create all the directories it needs to for its static backup location. Once that was done it was easy then to just copy my backup to the proper location.
The directories should be something like this: TWRP > BACKUPS > stringoflettersandnumbers > nameofbackup
Hope this helps.

That's brilliant. I will try that.

Lost backups

So I have 3 backups saved and I want to delete them to free up space. They are there in TWRP when I go to restore them but I can not find them in file explorer to delete them. I've checked all files and they're not there. How else can I access them and why are they not showing up now?

Hi @bricktm7
This is a protected section of the recovery. Ultimately if you delete the TWRP folder, the backups will be deleted from your device as I have done this before. But in previous times people often had access to the backups via a file manager. TWRP updated with this new mode where backups would be hidden in a file manager for security purposes and maybe to stop you from accidentally deleting them.
If you wish to see the files. You can turn on "Show hidden files and folders", this may show the backups (I am not %100 sure on this but you can try it). But if you wish to delete them. I recommend you go into Recovery Mode, and delete it from the Backup/Restore section.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and if you couldn't understand me - Let me know and I'll try to simplify it.

First Port to the Cube T7 Phablet.

After trying and trying and failing, I have finally figured out a way to port a rom to the Cube T7.
This has proven the only method (in my experience) to work. All the standard methods have failed
each time.
WARNING!!!!! THIS COULD BRICK OR DAMAGE YOUR PHONE
YOU ARE TRYING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE
FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR DEVICE!!!!
Things you need.
latest Spftool
and the Rom package
NOTE:You need to know that you can't just flash the package I put together. You will
need to use the TWRP recovery that comes in the package to transfer file from your external sd to
the system folder and so forth. Also the proper permission to set.
Step 1: Flashing the images.
I've already pulled the correct img from each folder and put it together for you.
The only thing that you will need to do is extract the folder and use the spf tool to
install the firmware.
Note** In order to keep the 3.97 app storage, I've had to make sure to use the
Spf tool to do a full format except for the bootloader.
Step 2: Repairing the Rom
In the rar package, I included all the files need to fix the rom so
it will work smoothly on your phone. The files can be located in
the "system" folder which will need to be copied to your external sdcard
At this point you will already have flash the images and turn on the phone.
You will notice that the after you turn it on, you will get a warning that says "Cpu overheating"
or at least to that affect. This is not true by the way, this is from the fact the tp settings are off
from the original rom. Either way the warning will force boot your phone which again is fine.
Once this happens you will need to go to recovery.
Once in recovery make sure that you go ahead and mount your
system partition.
With this done you will be able to go to /system/etc/.tp
This folder contains the files that control the thermal manager for
the rom. You want to delete this folder. YES DETELE IT!!!
Once deleted, go to the system folder that you should have copied to your
external Sdcard. You need to copy /system/etc/tp to the exact location that you
just deleted the original.
Once you've done this you will need to set the permissions for the folder and the
files contained. The folder needs to be set to 0755 and the files inside need to be set to 0644.
Once done its best to go ahead and use the recovery to flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip to root your device before
restarting. Once restarted you will need to use root explorer or es explorer root function to
copy all the files to there correct locations and set their permissions. Each file is in its corresponding
folder as it should be in the system partition. All you will need to do is copy and past from the folder on the external and
paste to the same folder in the system partition. For those that may not know, all files will be set to 0644/rw--r--r-- and folders that you copy over will be 0755/rwxr-xr-x (if your using root explorer, just un check the group and others on the "Write" permissions.
Whats not working?
I can't figure out how to get the camera to working.
I've used standard tuts to try and copy the right files or libs
but not luck as of yet. If anyone figures out a way please share!!!
Also, if you have the fold case, the screen does not come on when you
open the fold. Also when double tapping the screen, this does not take it out of sleep
mode. From what I've seen those are the only things that dont work. If you see something
else, please report it to this thread.
Also in the package you will find the Carliv 3.3 recovery version for our phone.
Thanks to kushyree from needrom.com for building it for us.
He also has been assisting me in trying to port other roms to our phone. We owe him a lot of thanks.
Let me know if you guys need any help with this. I will do the best I can to try and help out. Enjoy.

Resetting phone usage statistics: data and process stats

Some are asking how to reset phone usages without formatting data.
here's what I am doing just to reset my usages:
I'd say much better if your phone is rooted, and a nandroid backup just in case there is something wrong on what you've done.
-Must be rooted and must have a root capable file explorer/manager.
On internet usage:
open this folder in /data/system/netstats/*
inside that folder, delete all files. DON'T DELETE THE FOLDER ITSELF.
it will cause bootloops
On battery usage, find the following, if not all of them are present, delete the existing file:
delete the following inside /data/system/* : batterystats-checkin.bin , batterystats-daily.xml, and batterystats.bin
On process stats/usage:
inside /data/system/procstats/* , delete all files inside that folder, again don't delete the folder itself.
also open /data/system/usagestats/0/* , delete all the files inside the following folders: daily, monthly, weekly, and yearly.
in other roms, the path is /data/system/usagestats/*.
do not delete the folders. might cause bootloops
After that, reboot normally. after rebooting, you will notice that usages are back to its lowest values.
I hope it helped for some who has problems regarding phone's usage.

Delete .txt files?

I have two files under Documents & Other in the Files folder named MyWorkLog.txt and ssoLogs.txt that I don't believe to be important and would like to delete, but I don't want to screw my phone up. Are they safe to delete or no?

I would check the timestamp of its last modification, and have a look into the text files.
Then decide if the files are currently used and contain important data, or not.
Maybe better to move the files into a backup folder first, check if everything still works fine, and delete the files later.
It is just a lay out of codes that make up your screen usual when you download PicsArt and sometimes your texting/messaging app.
