The Xperia Play dedicated game launcher seems to be pretty much like the music player. It reads certain metadata (the famous "xperiaplay_optimized" label, the names of the games and its creators) and it reads the cover art (the game's icon). In landscape mode you have the "cover art" displayed prominently, and in portrait mode you have a list, with the "cover art" reduced to fit said list of items. That, plus the "toggle when sliding open" element, makes the dedicated launcher app, in a nutshell. What do you think could be added to the app?
I'd like to be able to sort my games somehow. Maybe by the number of times the app has been run? By creator?

I wouldnt want all my games in the launcher, it defeats the object for having a dedicated launcher for play optimised games.... i like being able to see at a glance what games i can play that support the pad

Sorry it isn't in the market yet (not an app or game that can be installed) and I'm aware that most flash games should work but this one is particular fitting.
For those of you who don't know about this game its a point and click puzzle game with really fantastic graphics.
You can demo the game in browser here http://machinarium.net/demo/
I wanted to share this as kind of a flash test for us Android and TF users as it won't work on non-flash devices (er..hm, I'm pointing at you iDevices).
I recommend putting the game in fullscreen mode although I can't 100% tell you how to do it. It involves tapping as close to the top of the game screen as possible and touching a button that symbolizes full screen.

Wow very nice find thanks
I loved playing this game on my pc. Very good art, highly entertaining. It would make a great honeycomb game.
Hi,
I found a really helpful post to actually play Machinarium (and various other SWF games) on the transformer.
I got it to work full screen and works really well (there is a bit of slow down) but it's great.
http://www.androidworld.it/forum/giochi-tablet-163/[guida]-machinarium-su-tablet-16815/
just make sure you translate from Italian to english.
Cheers!
Unsure if this was posted previously; a little steep at $6.99 but runs smoothly on the Transformer:
Pros: good in-game graphics (the movies, are a tad grainy and meh)
Cons: price, and no "lights out" mode during gameplay that you night expect. Audio quality with headphones are very engaging, and while I'm not a gamer or maybe I need to adjust the accelerometer sensitivity for steering purposes; YMMV.

you didn't have problem with the control sensor of the game ?
mine is working but the control is in portrait mode instead of the game ( play in landscape mode)
and there is no method to change the control...
it seems to be a general bug for the game on tablet

EA updated it with full tablet support on November 11th. Should have fixed the steering problem for you. It did for me and everyone else I know of.

I may have discovered the game only after this was addressed, I suppose. I played the game completely in Landscape after downloading. and I didn't perhaps mess with the controls as I was just learning to control the game itself.
Glad to hear this was addressed.
This is an easy way for people to map onlive buttons to the xperia plays gamepad for use with Hatcyl's onlive helper app see this thread for more details on his app and link to download.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382899
I Have made a generic onlive profile to be used with onlive helper app for full control of the onlive menu without having to touch the screen at all plus you can set lots of games to it for better all round use of onlive. This can be used for touchscreen supported or keyboard supported onlive games.
1.Easy messaging - It also enables you to chat with messages a bit like a ps3 instead of trying to type out on the tiny onscreen keyboard (Highlight the letter with the d-pad, x button to select your choice, circle to delete last choice and triangle for space bar).
2.Games - You can use this profile with any game that lets you change the ingame controll config to your own choices (e.g works with mx vs atv reflex, dirt3 plus finding more all the time ) each game you change settings in, the onlive game will save the customized config profile for any future play so only have to set them up 1 time.
3.onlive menu button config-
start - play game
select - toggle favorites
menu - sort games menu
circle - delete and back button in some game menus
square - only works for game mapping
triangle - space bar
cross - enter or select (menus and ingame)
back button - back in all menus
these 4 below all normal for easy selections in onlive menu and in game menus plus wont normally have to change them on ingame configs
up - up
down - down
left - left
right - right
left / right shoulders just a and b for mapping in games do nothing in menus at mo.
any of these hardware buttons (not back button) can be mapped to buttons in game if the game gives you the choice.
4.mouse - the mouse will be turned on in games that are not yet offically touchscreen supported.
any game that uses the mouse (which is emulated onscreen by onlive) change the mouse sensitivity and other mouse options (normally sliders) on the ingame settings to as low as you can go but without turning them off completely for a useable mouse
(eg tried this with homefront used the touchscreen for looking around and aiming and the d-pad for moving and strafe and it was playable)
Tip for certain games - if the hardware buttons do not work on the ingame menus use the touchscreen like your playing an android game just try pressing on the onscreen options it will act like your clicking mouse button on the option given.
could do this with more games too.
5.list of games i have mapped- using this profile
mx vs atv reflex - buttons can be mapped
homefront - use the touchscreen to look and aim (turn mouse sensitivity down as far as can go before you shut it off completely) you will also need to map the right click on a mouse to something like sprint should come up lmb as choice if done, or when you touch screen it will pause. map aim down site's to L1 and fire R1 and you have it playable other buttons can be mapped also.
saint row 2 -buttons can be mapped and you can use the touchscreen to move the cam (turn mouse sensitivity down as far as can go before you shut it off completely) this also mite work for the 3rd to.
alarm for cobra 11 nitro - buttons can be mapped
Dirt 3 - buttons can be mapped
Flatout 2 - buttons can be mapped
virtua tennis 2009 - buttons can be mapped
Gear Grinder - buttons can be mapped
and finding more work as well.
not sure if this will help in anyone but its good for an all rounder profile and a easyer way then finding out all the codes for diff games
or buying other apps to do different jobs.
add the file attached to
/sdcard/Android/data/com.hatcyl.android.OnLiveHelper/files
it will then become a profile selectable in the onlive helper app.
Thanks do we do the mapping while in the onlive app?

yes go into the games own controller config and if the game will let you change the controls to which button on the pad you want when you have done that it will save and the next time you go into the game it will be ready for you to play again and again.

So I'm not sure how to do this. I started batman arkum asylum and went to controls but there was nothing to edit. Said keyboard onlive under controls but I couldn't edit them. Controls worked through the menus and I could move batman using the direction keys but couldn't map the other controls or edit and the.screen sensitivity was horrible to use to look around.
Your help would be.appreciated

Have tried to map batman but the game does not have the settings you can use onlive helper and make your own profile the screen works as the camera views but would be able to map the rest to the plays pad.

Oh ok yeah I have to learn how to map with onlive helper yacht tried it yet. Screen does work but it's waaaaay to sensitive so it really spent work well.

what steam games would you like Nvidia to add streaming support for? for me it would be:
Alan Wake, Grid 2, Farming simulator 2013 and some other controller enabled games such as the red faction games and maybe ridge racer unbounded.
Above all i hope nvidia adds a feature so we can test streaming for different games ourself and essentially play whatever we want. this could include games that aren't on steam as long as Geforce Experience can find them.

I can't speak for certainty, but so far, I've never seen it block Steam games. They don't show up independently in the list of games, but "Steam" as a game itself can launch and install any of your steam games, even those that don't support controller at all (and therefore are pretty much worthless over SHIELD)...
I thought Nvidia had to basically enable games to be streamable onto shield? if you check out info about it it says like "originally these 5 games will be streamable with more to come" and whatnot :S

I wish I could give a more definitive answer, but I'm only on the Android side of things. And all the versions and builds I've tested support "Steam" as a game (in Big Picture mode).
I'll ping product management and see if I can get an "official" answer to post here.
I know it's not totally practical, but I used to play WoW with an xbox 360 controller with joy2key software. (never did the large party raids and whatnot just simple questing etc) I wonder how simple or complex it would be to get games not running through steam to stream to the shield. Obviously the loss of keyboard is a major downfall, but with ingame macros and a teamspeak client I can see the number of inputs the shield has could be workable.
There's other games like maplestory that has joystick support, more information about how to get non-steam games working even if a script/hack is required would be appreciated. It's my personal determining factor on it being worth doing a pc upgrade to support the shield's streaming feature.

yeah mmo support would be awesome. even if you had to have maybe a mini bluetooth keyboard with you? or just play without talking? or use android's mumble app and forget typing XD
Official Shield FAQ states that non-Steam games can be streamed too. They just need to be listed in the Geforce Experience application. So I would expect that all games will run, it's only about optimization.

It seems only Beta of the streaming app is limited to Steam. Also take a look at some videos in YouTube, they are showing NFS as non-Steam game on Shield.

ohhh ok i see. i forgot that they had shown NFS. but Geforce Experience still has to find the game for it to be playable. Sadly as of right now GFE only seems to find about 1 in 5 games for me. thanks for the info tho!!!
Non-steam game: Mechwarrior Online. The game is setup perfect for dual joysticks and 1-4 weapon groups.

You have failed to understand how this works. Hawken does not run on android, you run hawken on your desktop PC with a GTX650 GPU or above and the shield then streams it.

I've never played it... Sounds like I may have to give it a try. And according to Steam, it should work fine. (Any game that's listed as "Full Controller Support" and plays in full-screen should play perfectly, but no promises)
