Is Miracast/Mirroring from the Aristo possible? - General Questions and Answers

So, I got a new Amazon FireTV and have been trying to get it to mirror what is on my Aristo.
I don't want to focus on the FireTV, because I am not sure if the problem lies with it or with the Aristo.
I watched a video about mirroring where the guy clicked on the "Cast" option and then it worked. But I don't see a Cast option in any menu.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaWyRgXb2O4
Is there a hidden menu that a launcher or rooting can unlock, or is it hidden because of (probable) T-mobile lockdown? Or was casting totally stripped from the phone? If so, has it been restored on any ROM?
Finally, is it even worth it for decent quality? Is the Aristo underpowered for this purpose?
Thanks

Aristo doesn't have a screen cast function at all.
If you really want a cheap device that can do it, you'd have to find one of the LG Leon variants. (Pissed me off because I cast my Skype calls)
Also, no. There's no physical way for the device to cast, thus a custom ROM cannot just add it.

[Q] New owner of a Note Pro 12.2 - Questions

Hello everybody,
I just bought a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 (unlocked LTE edition). I have to say that although I am quite an experienced Windows user, I am totally new to Android. So far I really enjoy this tablet and I am trying to use it as at least 70-80% as a laptop replacement (if possible).
I have some issues though and I would like to ask for your help:
1. Adobe Flash Player: I was reading that unfortunately Android 4.4 does not support flash player any more. Although I am also not a big fan of flash, it seems that is required quite often (e.g. for youtube videos, facebook games, etc...). I found on the XDA forum in another thread that it should be possible to use flash player with the Dolphin web browser. I would like to ask you if there is a way to install flash also on Chrome or Firefox.
2. Youtube: I often get the message that the content is not available on mobile devices. Is there any way to bypass this somehow? Also is there a way to always load desktop websites instead of the mobile ones?
3. RemotePC: I tried RemotePC which comes pre-installed with the device and I like it quite a lot (although it's a bit slow). However, I have not found a way to transfer files from my laptop to the Note. Could you please help me with that? Also, are there maybe any other apps which perform better than the RemotePC?
4. Media Player: Whuch media player would you suggest? Is there a media player such as VLC for PC which can handle all different video and audio files (MKV, AC3, AVI, etc...)
5. Rooting: I have read some stuff regarding rooting and it seems that it's really worth it. I would like to ask you if is it possible to root Note Pro 12.2 and if yes then how to unroot it in case I would need to use my warranty.
I know that these are quite a lot of questions and I would be really grateful if you could help me!
Thanks a lot!

1. The problem with using Flash is that the -browsers- won't support it in KitKat. I can only get it to work with Dolphin. I use Lightning + for everything else, though.
2. Maybe this: http://imgur.com/zc2Kzan. Otherwise, I just watch the videos using Dolphin set to 'Desktop' mode.
3. To transfer files, I use either Ex File Explorer (free) or Solid Explorer (paid, but super awesome). I use a different program to connect to my PC remotely, though, and it is fairly quick: Real VNC Viewer which used to be $10, but is now free. I have TightVNC installed on my computer.
4. I use Archos or MX Player. Archos is beautiful, but you have to buy the codec pack to play everything else. MX Player comes in free and paid, but I don't care for the interface. The combination of both (I've not paid for the codecs) plays every file streaming from my computer. I'm sure if I pay for the codec pack, Archos will play everything.
5. I've rooted, and I'm 100% satisfied. I have a lot of apps that require root. I'm sure unrooting is possible, but I will never have the need. Plus, once you're rooted the Knox counter is tripped.
Perfect... Thank you very much for your help!!
I have another question regarding youtube... Is it possible to continue play the video in the background when I switch tabs or I open another app?
Also what is this Knox counter and what does it mean that it will be tripped? If I eventually root the tablet, do I have to re-install all the downloaded apps from the beginning?

There are apps that can do that, yes. PVSTAR+ is one. I suppose with multi-window mode you could have YouTube playing in one window and doing other things in the other window? I've not tried.
I'm not sure what the Knox counter is, actually. I believe the original purpose was to show if the device's software had been modified. When you root, Knox shows the device was tampered with. When I rooted, I didn't have to re-install anything.

While the Knox counter will tell Sammy and everyone whether or not your device has been tampered with / rooted etc, its primary purpose is for the enterprise. The Knox partition (if you enable it) creates a "secure" work environment which is what many companies want with their mobile devices. Software policies can be easily put into place which read the Knox counter and if it has been tripped will treat the knox device as either 1) a typical unsecured device and let it on the network however the admins allow unsecured devices on, or 2) prevent the device from hooking up to the network even with a knox partition in tact.
Knox is Samsung's way of trying to break the Windows / iOS (and once upon a time BB) lock on the secure corporate / government world. I actually think the idea is brilliant as you have two partitions, one to install all your home crap on, and a tight secure partition strictly for work.
My thoughts exactly. Knox has nothing to do with the hardware warranty.

Software mods of any kind wreak havoc on my screen mirroring. Not the way you would!

I recently posted a few different times a query about the following problem in specific developers threads the kernels of whom I had experienced the sams problem. I made a few people frustrated because I didn't let it alone that noone was responding there. I havs come to find that it is the same on any kernel change and furthermore is the same with the stock rooted deodexed rox with stock kernel i am running now.
To save time I am going to paste here and edit from one pf my posts from the other threads....
........
I posted the question a couple of months ago if anyone else was experiencing issues when NOT JUST USING SCREEN MIRRORING, which works just fine for me, but when using screen mirroring & then employ an video streaming app (OTHER THAN YOUTUBE) like NETFLIX or hULU or HBO GO. I am getting an issue where I get sound across the stream but no video except the progress bar and volume controls. otherwise it is black screen. the menus even work fine for selecting a video but once it loads it is black, also if using HULU there is a 5 second video that introduces what series you are watching before the program starts. this will run with video but nothing but black screen +controls when program starts.
Does anyone else experience this after rooting or software modding. I am running as close to stock as I care to n920tuvs4dph2 stock deodexed rooted with stock kernel.
Next I will be reying stock with auto root. But I love some of these kernels out there and I am also inclined to keep a backup of the stock for when I want to mirror and flash kernel when I don't. But a fix would be nice.
I of course lost mirroring altogether when flashing current rom but a single line of build.prop editing rmedied that, but when trying to stream a netflix video ... BLACK.
PLEASE TEST THIS IF YOU HAVE THE TIME!
If you do not have a samsung TV or a Roku on which to test this then I encountered identical problem when trying to stream from a paid service to my laptop when using sidesync. Which I believe most anyone can test.
I would greatly appreciate your feedback on this and remember that all other elements of screen mirroring work fine except this. Alos streaming from You Tube works with video.
This particular feature fail has plagued me during whatever Spears changes i have made
Also please let me know which model phone (mine is Note 5 Tmo) you are using''
Thank you soooo much in advance!!!!
Found an answer HERE I had come across the fix of disabling hdcp in build.prop but didn't know own what it really meant. Basically hdcp is DRM or copyright protection and when you alter your stock software the apps that use hdcp will not function properly. There is no current or expected fix.

* Noob Alert! * Make my Fire 8HD into regular tablet? *

Hello, great forum!
Joined specifically to ask these questions. I did use "search" here for a while before registering but, never found a clear-cut answer.
So, can I turn my fire 8hd into a regular android tab? Is it possible to COMPLETELY wipe the amazon os and run a normal launcher?
-I never registered device to prime, I followed a guide to add google stuff and nova launcher but, I hate hitting the home button and seeing the amazon home flash before going to nova. It is updated to 5.60. I've been reading some of the threads for hijacking the os (so many versions!) and it just made me even more confused.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Hi, at the moment there is no other OS for these tablets but you can use Launcher Hijack V3 with nova launcher, this should get rid of the flickering of fire OS showing and at least give the appearance of a normal android tablet.

Thanks for the reply!
Yup, I had installed Hijack v3 when I added everything else but I still see the amazon home flicker briefly.
Next questions would be, have previous version been successfully completed in removing all the amazon stuff and making it a normal android tablet?
If so, is there a general feeling around here that this will be possible in the future with 5.60?
What steps should I take now to block future updates in hopes of making this a normal tablet?
The older Kindle HD (from 2012) can do this, as they've managed to run custom recovery on it. A custom recovery (TWRP or similar) is the first step to being able to actually replace the OS, and as far as I know only the older HD model had that available. Without it, you're stuck with Fire OS for the foreseeable future.
My old 2012 KFHD ran Android 6 Marshmallow for nearly the last 2 years until the charging port starting going haywire, and in an attempt to repair it I accidentally bricked it.
I was going to get another one to replace it, but decided to spend a little more on a more recent edition, the last generation (2016) HD 8. Why? Because as much as I like stock Android, I actually lost access to high definition content in Netflix and Amazon Video streaming services, since it was no longer recognized as a certified device for that. Uncertified devices only get access to lower resolution video, which begs the question- why have an HD tablet for low res video?
Turns out I use my laptop more for work, and this is just a reading/video/casual gaming device for me. The new version is a little faster and has more RAM, and those things work fine if not better in the original Fire OS, so I'm OK with that.
I came here actually wondering if any progress had been made in custom roms/recoveries for the HD8, but this thread confirms what I already figured. If you want a Kindle that you can remove and replace the OS, you need to go back some generations and get an older one.

A common place to discuss and share for MI Tv.
Please share your comments regarding your MI tv.
And anyone succeeded in rooting or porting of custom rom or recovery?
Root can be done ( following a Russian site).

Anyone having the latest pro version of mi tv with Android 8.1?
A very useful tool which shows all the required information for identifying the correct firmware in case of something went wrong with the OS. So, keep in mind to place the screenshot of it somewhere safe. The app shows the detail of your display panel id, rom version, platform id...... All this is data is required before flashing a new rom as MiTv has so many many variant like MiTv 4a 49" has more than 4 variant, like wise for MiTv 4 55". So, on every model has some different variance, all because of having different display panels and for other reasons. Some display panel will be from LG or Samsung and two other brand from Chinese manufacturer.
Mi TV is a better option for limited budget. You will get more features for less budget.
If someone could share the rom and recovery dump file from the Mi Pro android 8.1 series, it will be a great help for the other previous Mi Tv users in porting the rom. Or at least share what you find for MiTv like rooting, custom recovery or anything for others.
Btw i found a way to root MiTv but its a long process and it needs UART device. And also to block the adds by using adb without root.
Again, so many MiTv owner pass by looking for some development for our Tv but find nothing mainly because no one is interested in so little interacted thread and not able to start any developments (at least in my view). Start sharing your experience, may be starting with your best optimal display setting.

Yes, it is there but it needs to be install through UART from the diagnostic port.

First you need a UART device and then open the tv back panel and you have to make a connection at the diagnostic port on the motherboard directly.
If you are ready for this steps, prepare for the next move and let me know.

I do have the 43" global with build in Chromecast. Works nice and pic is also very good. No way to install Netflix for android tv and I cannot cast Netflix from my phone to the tv.. Everything else is castable.
Honestly I do have 43 inch 4A model. But the only concern here is do we need custom rom for this TV? I mean we already have one of the best stock firmware. Also, there is a way to sideload app from usb and once you install aptoide store then you can directly download apps from it. I have good amount of apps installed for me but few of them need mouse like Netflix and Amazon prime. Some of them need google play services so they do get installed but when you try go ahead they ask for play services. Also, regarding the UART port, opening the back panel will surely void the warranty, are people willing to go ahead with that?
I'm fond of mods and custom roms but here it is bit complicated as a TV is not a personal device which is used by only one person like a smartphone. I heard we will get the oreo update soon does any1 knows when it's scheduled?

Dear Friend,
I'm not concerned about custom ROMS here. But I want to enhance possible supported features in product not given by Mi.
I have Mitv 4a, and it doesn't support bluetooth speaker, while there is bluetooth in hardware. So by rooting and patching some firmware to make it working is my concern.
Another thing is, As phoneix rom and older Remix os were having support to replicate touch with Keyboard and mouse. If one can mimic that feature in patch ui firmaware than our MiTV will be more amazing:fingers-crossed:
I used to do same with Octopus app but its annoying for many apps.
Most important feature for me is supporting external sd card as internal storage. Which would not be possible without rooting MiTV.
What do you and others say about these?
I understand that you want to make optimum use of the hardware and explore all the possibilities. I personally feel it's a step we must take provided we have the source code and stock firmware readily available. Also, I have bought a wireless mouse and keyboard combo from Flipkart and it works like a charm. Regarding external hard drive support as internal, I feel the current version of android on MI TV 4A doesn't supports it natively. We should wait for the Oreo update and then should work towards it. Though my wife will kill me for messing up with the TV, I'm all in brother. It's just if anything goes wrong we should be able to put our **** together again

Any ideas how to mod / reflash a Google Jamboard device?

I've recently acquired a used Google Jamboard (Smartboard TV thingie), and I wondered whether it could be reflashed with AndroidTV or similar, since as far as I found out, it's just a TV (and at 55" 4K a pretty good one) running Android and the Jamboard app. I haven't tried yet whether ADB is able to connect to it.. will do that soon-ish. I thought I'd check whether anyone else had tried that yet, but there doesn't seem to be anything around on the 'net. If I could turn that thing into a regular smart tv, that'd be fantastic.

If you flash anything, it would have to be built specifically for the model number of the device. What can and can't be flashed on any kind of android device is very dependent on exactly what hardware it is to be installed on. For example, all of the custom ROMs here for android phones, tablets, etc.. have all been built from the ground up specifically for the device it is being installed on, there really isn't a "one size fits all" android software option.
