Am I the only one who's got worse battery life since the update?
I keep my brightness set low, bluetooth and GPS are off. My mail and Twitter are set to update manually. Weather updates every four hours, and I use only a few widgets (the weather clock and a few that toggle settings). I've got a solid LTE signal.
Before the update (and even after the 2.11.605.3 Gingerbread update that I'd got before Verizon and HTC pulled it), I could take my phone off the charger when I woke up, use it moderately, and still be in the green when I'd put it back on the charger at bed time. If I used it a bit more, maybe I'd be in the yellow, but I'd never had a problem going 18 hours or so on a single full charge.
Since the update, though, my phone can't get through a day without recharging in the middle. Even if I don't use it. Just sitting on my desk, untouched, I'm losing about 11% an hour.
Chances are the phone will re adjust through battery cycles. Also there are power saving options now if you go to the power setting. The efficiency setting works very well. Other than that I would wait a little longer before going about any tinkering.
And one more thing. You don't have a task manager do you? If so get rid of it. Android is incredibly efficient on managing its ram and tasks.

LTE? You're running 4G all the time? I wouldn't make it past late afternoon if I didn't toggle the LTE off most of the time and use CMDA (3G).
I'm stock and also having horrible battery life since the last update. Like 5 hours worth of battery with little use before I'm in the yellow. I'm giving up on 4G and switching over to 3G for good... maybe that will last longer as it did in the past
I'm tempted to do a factory reset

If my assumption is wrong on your knowledge of factory resets, i apologize and i'm not trying to insult your knowledge of these phones. That being said, factory reset won't allow you to revert to pre 605.5 software, as it just wipes the data completely and you stay on the same 605.5 you are on. If you are rooted already, make a backup and flash back an older release of the software that you are happy with. If you aren't rooted, now is a good time and then to revert back to past software haha
Hmm..sounds like someone should get an extended battery.I have one and never had a problem before or after gb.

Insult not taken... I'm well aware of what a factory reset is. And I don't care to root - been rooted before. Battery was much better before... so I figure its probably an app causing the drain - not playing nice with the update. A reset could remedy that.

Yep. The area I'm in (just east of Pittsburgh) seems to have good coverage. I've never had to manually turn off LTE, and until the last update, I've never had trouble making it through the day.

I'm with mdeblaz. Getting through the day on the stock battery hasn't been an issue until the update. And I'll buy a new phone before I buy a ginormous battery for this one. I've had a couple of HTC phones now, and the Thunderbolt has been the most problematic for me. Maybe I'll sell it back to Verizon and get the Rezound. If the battery issue doesn't clear up on it's own, it's either going to be new phone or (for the first time since I started using Android phones) flashing a new ROM.
Anyone know a good Gingerbread ROM for the Thunderbolt that has Sense 3? I know I'm a minority, but I keep buying HTC phones because I actually like Sense.

That one looks pretty good. Is LTE working in it? Is it ok to use over the current stock software? Any guides for noobs who have never even rooted, let alone installed a custom ROM?

Some advice for noobs. Read read read. Do your homework. Read through the guides and walkthroughs on this forum (mainly in the development section). Learn now to root and learn how to recover BEFORE attempting to mod your phone in any way. Learn how to setup and use ADB.

Going root is probably the only way to fix the thunderbolts stock problems.
I have had mine rooted since it was rootable and I have been loving my phone. I also use the stock battery and can get over 18 hours daily with wifi on at all times, lte and GPS when I'm not home. Those are the wonders of custom kernals and setcpu . I run AOSP but I have ran sense and Bamf forever is definitely the way to go for sense.
Good luck.

Restart phone or airplane mode on off is restarting connection.
I can't find any situation when this is happened so to me this is randomly

It was found that the fast dormancy feature is not compatible with all network carriers.
Therefore, fix for that (only for ROOTed phones) is available using a change to the build.prop file.
The needed change is detailed here:
ro.ril.disable.power.collapse=1
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=1 change to =0
I have just spend 2 hours on phone coping first HTC and T-Mobile.
In HTC they told me there is issue with towers in my area.
I call T-Mobile and after 1 hour 30 min they figure it out they have technical issue with towers I ask why my wife's wildfire S is doing great "my personal technician" it depends on witch tower, witch channel and finally witch device so hopefully they will fix floating signal in 72 hours and that's will close m y case. If not HTC this time will not get any reason to denide warranty and will send me new phone

Standard CS BS. I think you'll find that the new phone will have the same problem. I believe it is a radio issue. I hear flashing the European radios helps but not brave enough to try.

I'm also having this problem.
Just randomly the phone will just disconnect from the network. Takes it about a few minutes (1 to 5 minutes) then it suddenly reconnects.
I've heard changing the micro-sim was a fix but that didnt work for me. I thought maybe it was a ROM issue but I've been rooted for about 2 months now (the issue started happening a day later).
Has anyone actually tried the build.prop fix?
Well after yesterday phonecalls TO HTC and t mobile situation gets a lot better.

I think i read that's a prob with the US Tmo variant. Radio. Supposed to be fixed with latest RUU 1.84. If not, go bug HTC about it. Most likely their crap.
You could also try to flash the latest Radio from EU RUU 1.78 (0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L) which is one generation ahead.
Check my MediaFire folder. Got the zip's in there. untested though. need be brave for this. And u'll need a custom recovery. and be unlocked of course.

I've also noticed it's gotten better so something is changing somewhere. But still the problem persists.
FWIW, I've rooted every device I've had since the G1 (6 devices[G1, N1, G2, MT4G, MT4GS and 1S]) and never had any issue initiating a warranty exchange or getting warranty service.

It flashed alright with success message but the radio didn't change. The chip wouldn't accept the write. Probably S-OFF required.
I've spent some two hours waiting at the hospital today and had enough time to check out the connection under bad signal conditions.
I must say, the HOS radio of the latest EU ruu is having severe problems with keeping the connection alive. Even my HD2 with gingerbread was a lot better. This phone suxx with bad signal. And this is not in the US where this problem has mostly been reported. This is in Germany.

It happens to me too sometimes. I just flashed the latest European radio and it worked fine for me.
I'm having the same issue. I've tried three different radios and several different roms and now i'm back to stock by using a restore I had before going crazy on my phone with the available roms... It seems that the stock rom drops signal as well. It just elegantly drops the connection and then reconnects whereas all the custom roms I've tried don't. Not sure what to do... I mostly purchased the One S for its hardware.
These are the radio's I've tried and they all have much of the same problem on my phone.
Radio from RUU_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.78.401.2
0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L
Radio from OTA_Ville_U_TMOUS_1.84.531.2
0.16.31501S.16_2_10.22.31501S.10L
Radio from Stock T-Mobile US
0.16.31501S.02_10.18.31501S.08L
If anyone knows of a fix for this, I'd be more than happy to try it.
After hours with t-mobile personal technician they figure out they will replace my phone. Phone was bought on craig's list - something like e bay but free - and what's interesting T-Mobile will exchange for new one. We will see what's the story with new one

I`m having signal issues, as well. Whereas my wife`s phone has very good connection whatever the places we`ve been to, mine was struggling. And strange ups and downs with full and suddenly no connection at all within same area. I tried several ROMs and flashed the latest radio but still suffers. Regardless I`m in an area with full signal, when I switch to 3G then the signal instantly drops some bars. Very annoying....
Hi @ll. To me subject is over. Im using new replacement phone for 3 days and none of previous problems appear. I have no clue what was a problem. HTC blame t-mobile and t-mobile blame HTC. After all I get replacement device and 3 days phone work without any problem. Battery life is now much better because phone is not looking for signal. Still signal is floating but it is not going under 2 bars and device is all the time login in network.
So good luck to everybody. Greetings.

So even if I flash the stock ROM and put a custom ROM (like CM9 for example), this problem will not be fixed ??!! Even if I update the radio ?
Ok, So I just got this device last Friday. It was perfectly fine with full bars, I ended up rooting and flashing the Viper Rom and its been my daily since. Now I still had full bars and everything still seemed fine. Just within the last few days my connection has started fluctuating between one bar, two bars, or it'll just have an X over the signal.
I know I flashed the ROM correctly using the appropriate steps, but I thought maybe it was the ROM itself so I tried a few others and still my signal is weak. I've tried several different radios and nothing seems to get my signal steady again. It's a real annoyance because once I leave my house I have no signal.
I did get one idea but I'm not sure how much it'll help. When I received my device I immediately rooted and flashed a ROM. Not sure if I even had the latest OTA update. So I was thinking relocking my bootloader and flashing the appropriate RUU and getting the OTA update would help my situation out.
But other than that I'm pretty clueless and very frustrated. Here's what I'm talking about in screen shots I took.

I have not met a more destructive rom than the d2vzw MIUI port.
When I first flashed it a month ago, it was so unstable that I had to re Odin.
But that was nothing compared to the past 12 hours.
I tried a newer build. Still buggy. Wipes my MIN.
I spend the rest of the day zero-bar roaming and throwing every CDMA tool available at the problem.
Nothing worked until I wrote my efs.sbn backup to the phone. It was the last thing I was going to try before going to Verizon and and I never thought I would have to use the backup. I'm glad the MEID loss scare got people serious about backups.

I love miui, been using it for a few weeks on this phone and before this one I used it almost exclusively on my other three phones. I too lost my data and EIME, had backup thankfully but spent a few hours trying to get the darn thing working again. Ended up using nvrestore as a last resort and thankfully it worked. I've been a little flash happy lately. I had not tried MIUI but had read about it. Watched the little vid clip. Why not? I generally scan the entire thread on a new rom so I was surprised when I found no app drawer. I thought it was broken. So I waited a couple of days and tried the Official drop. I was playing around with it (still no app drawer of course) looking for Titanium BU when I noticed something on the notification bar. I pulled it down and touch it. something about roaming. I looked through it and the locations were all overseas. Did I miss something? Nothing in the post said anything about a potential bomb built into this thing. After I let it go, I noticed my connection was gone. Nandroid backups did not help. I picked around and got my data back, but only 3g. I ended up calling Verizon and told them I *228'd my phone and they reprogrammed my SIM. All is well now, but I'm going to be more careful and I too am avoiding the MIUI roms.

I thought flashing was at your own risk? Anytime I flash I assume I am using my phone as a chip on the blackjack table. Though the odds are in my favor, it's still a gamble. Don't flash if your not up for dealing with a worse case scenario.
I do appreciate the update on your experience, but to deem the rom essentially as a virus is a bit off the mark. Not knocking your post, but your post may scare alot of people away from that developers hard work. All phones, and more importantly all users are different and your experience WILL NOT be everyone else's.
I love the MIUI interface and many of its features, but I have never been able to fun a stable version on any of my phones. Too bad, there are always bugs needed to be worked out in MIUI roms it seems, specially with data.

The problem is common with all AOSP roms which is why I stick to the TW ones for now. MIUI is a fantastic rom, I really miss it after using it for years on my Evo.
It all comes from proper prep. There are so many instances of aosp causing issues for users, but they stem from coming from tw/or back to it. Our friend above (prdog) gave me a wonderful education on cleansing before flashing, and I have yet to have an issue. Learn and understand your system, the partitions created and how they are/are not affected by certain wipes, and know that tw/aosp are very different and need to be treated as such. Don't be lazy, treat going from one to another as a new phone and let titanium be your friend. Always format your system regardless of what others may tell you, even on a dirty flash. It's insurance and pays off in the end.

As for reading about the ROM, where? I looked again, can't find it. I'll allow that the app drawer might be my own fault but that wasn't what distracted me for 4 hours and then the call to Verizon. It was the "roaming bomb". That was not mentioned either. Why would a U.S. ROM contain that? I know flash at my own risk and I do. I've never complained before and I really don't think I'm complaining now. I saw this thread and agree is all. This one wasn't ready for prime time.
Well, last night I decided to simply reboot my nexus 5. That's it.
After it came back up i no longer had a signal or connection. I figured, huh that's weird so i rebooted again to no changed. Not long after the rom I was running Purity, started to boot loop and crash and loop. So i knew something was up.
I noticed my IMEI wasn't showing, so i was even more concerned. I wiped my phone completely, and got a factory image back on it. New recovery, and everything. Fastboot flashed a custom stock 4.4.3 rom, and the new radio, and nothing.
It boots fine, loads fine but cannot get a god damn signal. Just empty. It says when i try to call to turn airplane mode off, but it's off.
My IMEI does now show, just says service state - Radio off, unknown phone number, and disconnected mobile state. Went to T-mobile and they gave me a new SIM and no change.
I'm going to fastboot flash back to stock 4.4.2 and see if any change.
Any suggestions fellas? Could use some help here.
Do you have a backup of your efs? If so flash it

no my IMEI shows up fine, it's my radio is off.
i've dialed 4636 and went to manually do it, but trying to turn it on doesn't work. Just stays off.
flashed the newest radio AFTER i've flashed the stock factory 4.4.3 image.
Any other ideas guys?
kinda stuck here in a rock and a hard place

You've done everything I would have recommended. I think it's a hardware failure and you'll have to rma it. Have you checked with your carrier to see if it's anything on their end?

well went to Tmobile, and they gave me a new SIM, but didn't work. So random for a failure on a restart, but Tmobile is sending me a new Nexus 5 overnight shipping with a prepaid label. Just have to send the old one back. And they are discounting my service for a few days too.
sucks without a phone though, now i'm backing my Nexus 7 up just in case **** like this happens again.
Good news ultimately though

well, my luck sucks.
got my new Nexus and I got it unlocked, rooted, and custom rom'd. Within the first 15 min it started a never ending bootloop.
reverted everything back to stock the way it comes from google, and nothing, went back to T-mobile and they did dianostics, and then are getting me a 2nd replacement overnight.
talk about lame

Honestly it appears to me that you're really lacking technical knowledge and moral integrity.
You were given a second phone after you voided the warranty on the first one and rendered it unusable. The first thing you do is void the second one and basically brick it again. It's really lame and I kind'a hope T-Mobile notices it. Sorry mate.
Not here to scold....
Just advice....
Don't do anything to the next one until you read read read....then do some reading. I suggest all relevant stickies. Learn exactly what you are doing. Then read instructions fully and only then......do. ?
Any news?
Hi everyone,
it's been 2 days i don't have signal. I lost it without even rooting/unlocking the bootloader. I called Rogers to know what was the problem but they think its the phone. The problem is that Telus sim card works properly... Band/Radio problem?
If you guys have any news of what is going on... It would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Then the rogers sim could be defective, or your APN settings are incorrect/missing. That would be my guess.

Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately, the sim card has been tested(works fine on a old blackberry) and another rogers sim card has been tested and doesnt work either.
At least, I know that a telus sim card works fine.

Are you saying telus does work but Rogers doesn't? Check your apn then for Rogers.

honestly, i don't lack any technical knowledge.
i followed the stickies here to the letter. it's a refurbished unit that t-mobile said was defective at the store.
i read, and read, and read some more, and understand it all now, i have everything down to the core, i bookmarked every important thread relevant here.
i hate people like you that assume I have no integrity or knowledge, i never caused the 1st one to fail, it just happened. the 2nd wasn't my fault either it just failed out of the box.
