I have Mate 8 (AL-10) with unlocked bootloader, twrp recovery, root and insecure boot.img on rom B129SP02. Now I want update software (best in OTA). How can I do it? If I flash stock boot.img, recovery.img, system.img of my current rom and then use ota, will it work? Or maybe it is any better option?

Get the latest nougat UPDATE.APP. Place it either in your phone or sd card into dload folder. If you don't have the folder create it. After that press volume+ volume - and power altogether then may the force will be with you..
Before that you need to flash stock recovery before updating the UPDATE.APP.

OK, so I have a shield tablet that is running a rooted stock android version 5.1.1 and I want to update it too marshmallow and retain root. I have TWRP as my recovery. What's the easiest way to update? I found a thread for updating to marshmallow and it said it had the auto update file removed (which is good) but the downloadable files were removed from the thread by the OP... I should mention that this tablet is the newer recall replacement tablet that I'm trying to update, and that I still have the old recalled tablet with the auto update file removed so it never got killed. I'm not updating the old one though, just the new one.
You have to take care, not to overwrite the recovery partition. At least for the K1 there is an MM stock ROM on the official website. The version for linux simply contains partition images and a script, which fastboot flashes those. Commenting out the line which flashes the recovery would do the trick.
I'm not sure though if there is a similar ROM for the original.
Ah... no, with a locked bootloader it's slightly more complicated, since a 5.x twrp won't start on with a 6.0 staging blob.
Ok. Assume you've got the partition images. You have to (fastboot) flash everything but the blob and recovery first. Then boot into TWRP (the rom does not boot now) and flash your favorite SU tool. Then fastboot flash the blob. Now the rom should boot and give you root access. Finally update Twrp to 3.x.

Oh OK, thanks. I think I'll just wait. I'd rather flash a community stock/rooted rom. I don't want to flash an official ROM and have to re-root and flash recovery and all that... That's all just too much work right now just for marshmallow lol. My 5.1.1 is working fantastic so I'll just leave it for now. I'm curious why its so complicated now though with MM? I don't ever remember any previous build jumps requiring so much work to update to... My nexus 5 wasn't difficult at all. I just downloaded the full rom zip (MM Cataclysm cause I was on Lollipop Cataclysm), booted into TWRP, dirty flashed the zip, and it was good to go. I'm looking for THAT kind of update for my shield tablet.
If you unlock your bootloader (which is recomended for using custom roms), then getting root is simple, since you can fastboot flash any partition image.
Independend of your currently installed rom you can always get root by
1. (fastboot) flash the correct (2.7.x for Android 5.x, 3.x for Android 6.x) TWRP recovery
2. boot into TWRP an install a current SuperSU zip.
On the shield tablet you need to flash a new staging blob for MM in any case.

Hello!
I own a FRD-L19C432 device loaded with B120 FW, TWRP flashed to erecovery, the recovery partition is stock (?) since I haven't flashed anything on it and it is also rooted.
A few days ago, I got the notification of the availability of B131 update. According to some info I've read over the web, the erecovery isn't/wasn't used for anything, so I tried my luck and proceeded with updating operation from UI. It booted to recovery, failed to install, showed some error and booted to OS, that stills on B120.
Introduction made, the question is:
I already downloaded the FRD-L19C432B131 full update zip, can I simply flash it through the dload method, or, must I first unroot and flash stock B120 recovery in order to perform the dload flash?
If so, where can I get the B120 stock recovery and erecovery? I'm not finding it while using the Firmware Finder app by Team MT.
Hope you can give some help.
Tks,
RM
you can extract the recovery.img using huawei update extractor and then flash via adb or the multitool

It's weird and sad to hear that you flashed twrp to erecovery.
Let me explain u briefly what erecovery does . when u use dload method (while flashing an update.app) , erecovery extracts all .img and .bin files and later it flashes the each file (image files) to its respective partition .
In ur case. The normal stock recovery flashed the update.zip which was included in the script . but it failed to extract update.app in the update.zip and finally output u got is error.
Solution:
The only solution for this problem is ..
Download a full update package of stock ROM...
Extract Update.app (use huawei update extractor) and then find erecovery.IMG
Install adb and fastboot drivers ..
Put your phone in fastboot mode .
Connect to PC ..
In the terminal (command prompt) , type this command and hit enter .
fastboot flash erecovery erecovery.img
(From here u can reinstall the update.zip ) if it fails .
And then try to shutdown the phone , later put full update.app in dload folder ..
Use the 3 button combination to install full package of update.app and thats it .
It reboots to stock again .besure to take a backup of your data before attempting above step . after everything done check for update from settings and install it normally
hello!
Thanks for a proper answer
At the moment I'm stuck (paused) at the TWRP backup operation, since I don't seem to be able to perform a full back to internal storage (with the previous NEXUS phones I owned it was possible...) I need first to get an USB-C adapter in order to use USB OTG to perform the safety backup.
After That I'll flash B120 stock recovery and erecovery, unroot and dload the new FW version.
Meanwhile, another question: Using the FW Finder APP from Team MT on Windows it gets a FRD-L19C432B131 result, while on the Android version of the same AP it only finds B130, not B131 (?). On the other hand, I can only find the B120 full FW over Android APP, and don't seem to find it while using Windows... Any idea why this occurs?

Hello!
Task accomplished! TWRP full backup made, flashed stock recoveries from B120 and after that flashed B131 update.app though dload method.
Everything went OK except for the fact I got bootloader relocked after the second flash. I miss the simplicity of the Nexus devices...
With the TWRP backup made before I was able to restore most of the definitions though. It would be nice to digg a workaround to flash update.app without getting bootloader relocked...
I wonder if extracting boot, system and recoveries IMGs and flash all this through fastboot wouldn't work!? Did anyone tried?

Hello all.
I think it's all in the title. I am on L29C432B560, with root and TWRP installed.
Recently, I got the OTA notification for B581. But when I tried it, the system dowloaded the package, then rebooted to recovery. Except my recovery is TWRP, and won't auto-install the package.
Could I just use fastboot to re-flash stock recovery, OTA update, and maybe re-root with magisk ?
If yes, where to download the stock recovery for nougat ? I've been searching for 2 hours, but it seems my google-fu isn't strong enough :/
Alternatively, any suggestion is welcome as to the best way to go from rooted b560 with TWRP to b581 ...
Thanks in advance for your help !
Aaaaaand I just found it.
There seems to be something magical with me, where I look for something for 2 hours, then decide to ask for help, and figure out the solution 5 minutes later.
I just needed to use HuaweiUpdateExtractor to get the recovery.img file from a full b 560 update. After that I flashed it with fastboot, and the OTA .... well, the OTA failed. But it got through to standard recovery and started.
@kaceps
Here the stock recovery of your firmware.

You can't really "manually" update your Honor 8 the way you mean it. You can't just flash the downloaded content from TWRP.
Anyway I'll guide you on how to update without full ROM reflash. You WILL need recovery image and you can try without stock boot image. Installing update with rooted device(modified boot image) is reported to not work for some people but for me it does work with no issues. If you make a full backup you also won't run into any problems.
So to update your device find stock recovery img of your current ROM version. I recommend extracting it from UPDATE.zip which you can download with Huawei extractor. You flash the stock recovery from fastboot. I will assume you know how to get to fastboot since you already are rooted and have unlocked bootloader which is OK and won't give us problems.
After flashing stock recovery proceed with OTA normally as if you did not modify your device in any way.
BUT YOU have to select full system image download. Not partial small 200-300 mb update. You have to select full 2GB system image.
If you run into an error and it refuses to update you will need to find stock boot image from the previously mentioned UPDATE.zip. So flash both stock recovery and stock boot, then proceed with normal OTA update same as said above with full system image.
By doing the above you will not lose your DATA partition. You will not lose your apps. You WILL lose root access. All you need to do to regain root access it is to first reflash TWRP via fastboot and then reflash Magisk/SuperSU/(your root alternative). Before reflashing TWRP I recommend making stock recovery backup so you won't need to extract it again from UPDATE.zip for the future OTA updates.
If you have any questions or I was not clear on something please ask for further guidance. Do not forget to make a full backup before the process. You can not hard brick your device with anything I wrote here but you can lose your data if you have no backup.

Of course You can't. I wrote that at the beginning of the post. If that was possible nobody would ever have issues with updating their rooted device lol.
Hello there.
I unlocked my bootloader a long while ago, then flashed TWRP on my TW U11+. Now recently I have seen that there's an update and I get the popup from my updater.apk on my HTC U11+.
My phone is on 1.24.709.7 update. And it's I think most definitely the ASIA_TW version.
Mid - 2Q4D10000
Cid - HTC__621
So I try to update but of course fail because my recovery was TWRP so of course that it did not work. Then I hear that you need to have stock recovery, so what I do is I get stock recovery.img, go to download mode and flash it through the command "flashboot flash recovery recovery.img. I get the success command and I reboot and try download the OTA once again, then I try to update it. It does go to stock recovery but then it "updates" til 25% and then it's stuck. Then after like 10 seconds it just simply gives my this Red Triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle of it. So I press power button and vol down to get off that mode and that's it. It won't update to the newest OTA.
I flashed 1.24.709.7 recovery at first. It didn't work then I flashed 1.24.709.8 recovery but still no avail.
Can you guys please help me? I really don't know what I am doing wrong.
Thanks in advance
I am having the exact same problem. I wish I had the HTC__621 recovery, but I haven't been able to find the correct one.
Hopefully somebody will see this. Every link that looks like the right thing is dead.
Same problem
I had the same problem, too.
But I find a way to update to 1.24.709.8.
That is: I decide to flash the 1.24.709.8 version's RUU .
Hope this can help you.
U11+ All TW version's image and OTA :
//drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kNE8rN8yUBPo9vux9G3CMvUzg3cg0lQ3
Thanks for the link.
However the problem that I'm experiencing is that whenever I flash either 1.24.709.7 or 1.24.709.8 RUU. It just won't flash over fastboot. So what I do is I put it on my SD card then put the file and rename it to like 2Q4DIMG.zip and go to recovery and still won't flash it correctly.
I'll try it again today to see what error code I get from it.
Did you unlocked or rooted your u11+?
Sorry for the late reply man.
My HTC u11plus is unlocked and I also have rooted my phone via magisk.
You can't update with official ota if unlocked, you need to relock and have the stock recovery. Relock will wipe your data I think
You can OTA with unlock, but you must run pure stock ROM. I RUU my phone and successfully apply the OTA.
Magisk did modify /boot partition so OTA wont apply with Magisk. You have to restore stock boot, OTA, then patch the boot again to preserve Magisk. Also if you use 3rd party recovery you have to restore the stock one.
All partition image can be found in the RUU with https://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/tool-universal-htc-ruu-rom-decryption-t3382928 but you must make sure you flash the version match your current system. If not the only way might be RUU your phone.
I have also had the exact same issue with updating the latest OTA update. I have TW model, it was unlocked and rooted with magisk. I relocked bootloader, stock boot img and still the update wouldn't install. I even tried flashing 1.24.709.7 RUU in downloader mode but failed remote: 22 RU_HEADER_ERROR.
Would love any ideas or help.
*UPDATE*
Finally was able to update to 1.24.709.8 OTA. I needed up unlocking the bootloader again, then downloaded the 1.24.709.7 full image from
drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kNE8rN8yUBPo9vux9G3CMvUzg3cg0lQ3
Extracted the rar file and manually installed the boot, recovery and system images separately and rebooted. Downloaded the update and installed, everything worked sweet!!

Thank you very much for this. I will try this tomorrow or something.
I will post my results here.
Btw is there any update for Emea region? They did one a month ago for TW models and since then no words about Europe and Middle East
Does anyone have a link to 1.24.401.7 9.0_CL1010171 ? I'm trying to find stock recovery that matches with stock rom and can't find it anywhere.
Magisk and TWRP installed at the moment.
I've got stock boot.img backed up before installing Magisk but there was no way to boot (without flashing) TWRP in order to backup stock recovery that came with U11+.
Cheers
