Moto G (falcon) Lags, slow speed, stutters. - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I own my moto g from more than 3 years. The official update that we got for this device till lollipop, the device used to run fine for the hardware it had but compared to how it performs these days on these custom roms, especially the nougat ones, the performance has gone down so bad that it's pretty much struggling to perform even basic functions without the stutters or lags.
Now all that is understandable that it's an over 3 year old mid ranger but my questions are, 1) does everyone experience the same with their moto g, 2) what exactly has reduced the device's performance over time because it used to run fine on older android versions. So is it that the new android updates and apps etc aren't optimized for this old hardware or did the performance of these hardware components like the SoC just got reduced over time?
I'd be glad to read everyone's opinions below.

Personally, I don't experience any lag, decrease in performance, not even poor battery life running nougat (latest commotio), zero byte r4 kernel..
Could you be 'more specific' regarding your setup?

[Q] Best ROM in terms of gaming?

So i recently got this device, quite happy with it but since i use it more as a media device (heavy gaming like wot blitz and others) i am considering to switch from stock 4.2.2. Any good rom in terms of gaming performance and decent battery life?

On my phone SlimLP 5.0.2 work better than any lollipop rom. Yes, its a very aosp like rom without theme chooser and other fancy stuff, but runs really smooth and stable. Slim is my suggestion.
OH GOD 600MB of ram free, i came. Feels good man smooth as silk even though i didn't test it on games still feels good and the ui simple yet awesome, great!

ICS based ROMs (Viper, Elegancia) vs CM 12.1- Which runs better?

So I had to sell sell my current phone and I am going to use my sensation again for the next 2 months. I have tried the unofficial CM12.1 ROM and it is running surprisingly well, however CPU and RAM are constantly at 100%, rendering some simple tasks like Web browsing impossible (phone crashes).
l was thinking that the older ICS-based ROMs like ViperS or Elegancia may be better in terms of performance. Maybe the hardware of our favourite phone just isn't built for the software me have now...
Maybe there is a third alternative? What would be the best ROM for the Sensation in terms of performance?
ViperS is JB-based (4.1.2). Experiences can vary on a per-device basis, I personally find CM12.1 sufficient and issue-less, save the RIL bugs.

CyanogenMod 13 - Pros And Cons

I have known about CyanogenMod for a long time and still haven't been able to decide if I should flash it or not. So, please help me in deciding whether to flash CyanogenMod or not.
Thanks!
Its better that you make a backup and try it for yourself to see if you like it or not.

It has the biggest support, but isn't the best with battery and smoothness
i am having 2gb variant, i used CM13 for 2 months,
Pros :
1)Gaming improved, ( i dont know what cm13 does .. but i can play many games without any lag -- ex : NFS nolimits, RealRacing3, Modern combat 5)
2) The UI is smooth .. and has faster and better Ram management than that of stock
3) Highly Customizable ( like all others )
4) Latest Gestures which are in G 2016 edition are also added
5) SUpport .. what ever your problem is, they are listening
6)Last but not least : Monthly Security Patches
CONS:
1) as performance is boosted, Battery gets drained when we play any game ( if i play NFS no limits i get 2.5 hrs 100-5% battery)
2) No moto Display ( ambient is there, but i dont feel it convincing)
3) voLTE support in INDIA, i cant find it in CM13 .. so had to change to stock rom...
this is according to me..
Pros :
1. Can put butter on shame in terms of smoothness if properly used/customized.
2. Better memory management than other CM-based ROMs (for me).
3. Huge support, like how is ubuntu on pc.
Cons :
1. Moto Display is absent.
2. VoLTE issue, at least in India.
3. I love my cat more than cm (perhaps this should be a pros point [emoji16] !?)
You should install it for a few days and decide yourself.

I have never tried CM13, but the main reason I did not is I understand battery saving location does not work well.. But this is most likely not important to most users.

are roms worth it ??

i recently bought a nvidia shield k1 . i think the performance is pretty good.
what are the benefits of switching over to cm13 ?
are there any performance benefits ?
which is the best rom for this tablet ?
The NVIDIA stock ROM is pretty lightweight and has few issues. Only flash CyanogenMod if you need the extra features (like the theme engine) are willing to tolerate bugs (I had issues with memory leaks).
I tried Bliss and CM. I would have weird issues playing games. Found stock was better for gaming unfortunately. I love ROMs and flashing. I found GtrCraft's ROM here and it works very well. Nothing extra, but it is optimized a bit.

I'm a noob and I'm happy with Nvidia stock ROM. Besides, the Mediaserver bug that I recently encountered. Though, that's apparently common even with custom ROMs.

Nougat - Is it worth it?

I'm currently using DirtyUnicorn ROM on my 16GB Shield (Wifi) model. I only use this ROM because of how stable and smooth it is.
I've never used the original factory ROM by Nvidia but as the recent Nougat release, I'm thinking of moving to Nouagt Original ROM. So I want to ask you guys who are using the 5.0/5.1 update on Shield Tab.
How have your experience been so far? Is it running smoothly for a light use (no gaming just media stuff)
How's the battery life compared to Marshmallow? Is it better than Xposed with Greenify+Amplify?
and above all, is there any Nvidia bloatware on original ROM and do they affect battery life?

I'll say this, I haven't rooted my k1 just yet because the dev support isn't quite want I'm used too. Before the android 7 updates I was beginning to regret my purchase (I've only had this thing maybe a month) but can now say I genuinely enjoy using my k1. I also don't game a whole lot. When I do game it's things like adventure capitalist and I can get a solid 3 1\2 hours sot. Sometimes 5 hours with no gaming. Also I never go above ~%60 screen brightness, that makes a sizable difference
I'm using 5.1 update on the Shield K1 tablet. First of all, if you're moving to Nougat, don't get the 5.0. That version has got many crashing issues and Nvidia have to withdraw the release, and they came back with 5.1.
So far, 5.1 is the smoothest stock rom on Shield tablet I've ever used. (I never root nor use any custom roms on my tablet). Android 7.0 has improved a lot. Even though you can't see directly on the surface, there are many improvements underneath (ask Google if you want to know what are those improvements).
For me, yes, it worth to move to Nougat. I'm not aware of any bloatware that hog the system. But it's always good to uninstall or disable any apps that you're not going to use.
I love the 5.1 update I have set the power plan to battery saver, and have brightness low, I gamed a lot especially GeForce now and half life 2 and borderlands 2 I get 5 hours screen on time also watching man UTD game also
Also I have set up apps I use a lot outside of games to be using 50 percent of cpu and it works fantastically
