Battery Drain - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

Hello,
The battery life of my Honor 6X used to last around +48hours with more than 5h screen on time, and consumes between 3-5% overnight.
However, recently the battery is not doing so well even though there is no heavy usage (on screen time around 1h30), overnight the phone consumes between 12-20% with WiFi and Data off...
Is there anything I can do to identify the issue? anyone else having the same issues?
Model number BLN-L21
Build BLN-L21C432B367
Android 7

Hi, this should be in Q&A section so ask a mod to move the thread when you'll have time.
Battery is a strong point of this phone, and reading what you wrote perfectly matches with my actual phone stats (i refer to 48h lasting, 5h SoT...) so i'll begin to ask ya some things to help you identify the issue, since that this strange and sudden change from a moment to another looks bizarre:
Did you ever updated the phone via Firmware Finder, other than System Update?
Battery optimization is enabled for apps that you aren't using?
When your phone is charging, do you use it much? (You could shorten battery life this way)
You make full charge cycles, letting battery touch 100% for example, or not?
Something else that you could have done to the phone? (Root, mods, Xposed, Modules...)

I know where you are coming from, I have had the same issue after the EMUI 5 update, I have to reset all settings in back up and reset options to get to the 2 day standby time every 2 weeks

I've the BLN-L21C185 as well, apparently there's a bug in the firmware which Huawei hasnt fixed yet and no one on the forum knows how to fix the issue so you are on your own

Hey RedSkull23, MTjake
Did you ever updated the phone via Firmware Finder, other than System Update? No
Battery optimization is enabled for apps that you aren't using? Yes, I didn't make any changes to the list since the problem occurred
When your phone is charging, do you use it much? (You could shorten battery life this way) While charging, I only use the phone to check notifications, I don't really use it
You make full charge cycles, letting battery touch 100% for example, or not? Yes, I let it reach 100% and I don't keep it charging overnight, I did notice that once it reach 95% it takes much longer to reach 100%
Something else that you could have done to the phone? (Root, mods, Xposed, Modules...) Not really

Oh damn, but the thing is, after the EMUI 5 update the standby lasted 2 day without changing anything, but my phone had 2 security updates since the EMUI 5, the first one might caused the problem, not sure though

Like for me it's like I reset the phone use it for 7 8 days the battery life is phenomenal, I use my phone for media consumption (watching videos, YouTube, iflix and stuff) and I get a good 11 hours of screen on time with 25 per cent battery remaining, then I don't know what happens and the stand by time drops to 13 hours screen on time goes down to 3 or 4 hours, then it's back to resetting the settings and it's good for a few days vice versa and this happened after the EMUI 5 update, the performance is also choppy on this version, don't know what to do have tried everything on battery optimization here but no use :/

The chances that it could be a bug increases after your answer; why don't you ask directly to Huawei/Honor if they're aware of this?

I tried but the Huawei officials in Pakistan have the same response to whatever you ask them :we are working on the updates stay tuned -_-

Other regions get bug fixes all the time and the only thing I've gotten is security updates :/

Doesn't work , have tried all of the stuff in the post

I am having the same issue. Battery life was very good but in last couple of weeks has gone to 3-4 hours without any great use.

Hi guys, sorry to post here after all this time, I had kind of the same problem lately but worst.
My battery wouldn't last more than half a day, with almost no screen on time ... I check battery stats, everything, doesn't look like something has changed except WiFi seems to be on all the time, when in fact it is disabled. I used to have intelligent WiFi on, but even when it's off, looks like my phone is searching for WiFi all day long.
I have done nothing, not installed a new app, no change on optimization, no nothing.
Also no root, never unlocked bootloader. Did you fix your problem and how ?

I'm in the same boat with you.

Samsung S DOUS 2 S7582 battery draining faster from 40% to dead (1 % persec)

I have a strange issue with my S7582 . I was experiencing battery drain problems with my 2 year old phone since a while. Its battery started bulging out , so i thought replacing with a new one will solve the issue. The issue with the old battery was that it shutdowns immediately as it reaches 40 - 50 %. also the center home button was working only sometimes. After i replaced the battery ,i charged it and started using it. I observed that the issue was still the same previously the phone switched off at 40 % abruptly, now it shows battery level drop like 40,39,38..etc(1 % per sec) and goes off and shut downs. I gave the phone for servicing suspecting water leakage or board short circuit. But they told that its perfect, no issues with the board.
I am using wifi and 3g data on a daily basis and this phone gives me back up only half a day. I have only minimum no. of apps installed- (whatsapp, imo,uc mini lite ..).
Can anyone help me out.
Calibrate the battery!

Hi, I think your phone is sticking to your old battery's 'batterystats.bin' file. If you are rooted, download this small application from playstore ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=en ). Install it and grant the root permisssions for it. And keep it for charging, and then wait till 100% charge. And then tap on calibrate. It shows 'Calibration Succeed' . Done. Hit Thanks if helped! :good:
Same issue here
I'm having the exact same issue, tried calibrating, didn't help. Bought a new battery (the previous became really fat), no changes. I'm about to try a -supossedly- long lasting non original battery, hoping that turns the phone useful again.

I googled that a lot, and even thought many people mentioned it, that file seems to be there for a different purpose than keeping the battery callibration. It is used to store actual "battery stats", which are shown on the "battery" section at "Settings". I'm pretty that calibration must be the solution, but haven't found any way to do it properly.
Try this!

Try re-installing your ROM or give a hard reset. I suggest you take a backup of all your current data somewhere safe.

Battery life greatly getting worse

Has anyone noticed their battery getting incredibly worse over time? I bought my S7 on release (non edge). And since then, I've noticed that it doesn't last no where near as long. Today, for example I started my day at 7:00am when the battery was 100%. As of 30 minutes ago, the battery reached critically low (5%). From 7am all I did was watch a few videos, facebook, snapchat and then play music. But all the above for not too long.
I've also noticed that once the phone hits the 15% battery (I know due to the notification), that within minutes the battery can be done to 10% or so, without touching it.
I'm more so tempted just to take it back, unless there's an easy fix OR it's a known issue with the current version.
Thanks!

I've definitely noticed this since rooting. Maybe it has something to do with that? Like a ROM you flashed or what not? I'd like some suggestions here as well.

I haven't rooted the S7, it was the first phone that I've left stock from opening.
What does the battery stats say is using the most mAh?
Facebook app is a known battery hog
Obviously over time, you'll install different things, and slowly the phone will start using more and more power running background apps
A backup and Factory reset will show if there is a hardware / battery issue, or if it's purely from stuff you've installed over time
Also clearing the caches from recovery could help
yeah ive noticed this too. My usage habits havent changed but my battery life is almost half of what it was when i just got the phone.

Cache has been cleared from recovery, and I don't generally install many apps so since I've bought the phone the apps have stayed the same.
Android system is always on top. Unless of course I spend hours on Facebook.
Might have to factory reset. I've used my phone with the same apps and time since I've bought it, and I'm finding I'm charging it 3x as much.
I think it's a root issue - deep sleep.
After S6 Edge Plus, when you root a samsung phone, it won't go in deep sleep. I believe there's a fix for that.
Have you checked the battery usage stats? It gives you the breakdown on what apps are eating up the battery.
I have had my S7 for about a month and battery is about the same.
Just to update this thread for those that may have a similar issue...the other day I couldn't live with the battery life the way it was. The phone used 50% in several hours where I barely used it.
Decided to completely re-flash with stock (was stock before) as opposed to simply wiping all data. A week in, and the phone's battery life is back to the way it was. I went to bed when it was on 100% (as a test) and woke up 7 hours later with the phone on 94%, with wifi, location and bluetooth on.
Not sure what had caused it to use so much battery previously, but it's back to what it should be and that's all that matters.
hi with my s7 exynos i do 3h screen. i think there is a problem. i bought my s7 one week ago. can anyone help me?
Rooting and installing custom kernels when done right should greatly increase the battery life of your device. This is a well known guide here on XDA for improving battery life for our devices.
That being said, Lithium Ion Batteries hold less charge the more cycles they are put through, its a given fact but as you said your device is relatively new and therefore should not be experiencing this kind of problem. The way I see this is there are 3 possibilities which may be causing the said problem...
1) You have rooted the device and done some modification/s. ( which you haven't done )
2) Your battery is being drained by a service ( Like Oculus or VR ) in fact a number of reddit users complained their S7 was overheating and battery was draining really fast for some reason. Check This page out, It might help you.
3) Battery Defect, you must've gotten a "bad" model, if you haven't tripped KNOX you could try bringing your phone to Samsung and see if they would fix or replace it.
Good luck
I think this has to due to them samsung updates. As far as i know samsung been always doing things like this where they made the OS slow as hell after a while so you gonna get a upgrade sooner but a battery should last 2 years minimal without degrading.

i get like 5 hours screen on time and bout 1 day standby time but i have most bloatware disabled with the package disabler. But if i was you i would contact samsung.
This happens with Samsung updates on every Galaxy phone. It's like a curse. It's unavoidable.

May i ask if the people with these problems use the fast charge? I hearing many bad things bout this so i switched it off and must say the normal charge isn't that slow and if it can keep the battery good for longer then we all should use this.
I turned fast charge off about a week after I got the phone, was making the phone and charger pretty hot for the sake of about 5-10 mins quicker charge
Pointless really, unless you are desperate, only have a few mins spare and need as much power as possible in that short time, and if that's the case, enable it for that one time
Restrict background data on all but the most important apps (phone, text, email), dave power all but the most important apps. Battery life is fine

its not that good I would say. With 12 hrs of uptime and 1.35 h SOT it shouldn't have drained so much battery. I have the same issue. Install cpu spy and see how much deep sleep you are actually getting. Chk mine in the screenshot. Emui 5.0 sucks
Emui 5.0 does suck. Even with Aeroplane mode on (i.e. no Wifi, no data, no radio) and power saving mode on, all power hungry apps force stopped, screen off my phone went down from 100% to 83% in 7 hours. With previous version it would stay at 100% in the same time under the same conditions. Android system never sleeps it looks like and continues to do something meaningless. When everything is off why should there be a 17% drain?

yes.. Check with hicare. They will give you a link and instructions.
I also have the same problem. No matter what I do, My phone drains like.. 30 ~ 40% overnight.. I turn off everything (data, gps, 4g, wifi.)
I really want to rollback to 4.1, but based on what I've seen on forums, it seems like alot of failures in trying to rollback, some times ending up with a brick.
Not sure what I should do. So frustrating.

mine somehow got better. do the following.
1. let you phone battery die once completely. Plan it so that you are at home.
2. Plug it in when its dead and let it charge till 100%. Don't unplug it and try not to use it much. You can switch on though. It will take a lot of time to charge initially.
Mine got a lot better after I did this.

Thanks. Tried this, but didn't really help much. It still drains like 20% overnight, and this seriously doesn't make any sense.
Well, I can't upload images on XDA Yet, so I can't show, but
Based on the consumption level screen
HArdware (72%)
with Cell Standby (39.1%) of it.
I also installed cpu spy and checked, my phone was always on deep sleep
If u have standby drain in nougat then Set Transition Animation to 0.5x and Turn Off Auto Brightness when in standby. Try this it might work.
I did the rollback with the Huawei instructions. I'm much happier with the battery life. I miss the notification shade from nougat but it is not worth the battery change. The battery life is heroic on mm
---------- Post added at 01:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:02 PM ----------
And I had nougat for weeks before going back to mm
Same.... I lost 40-50% battery life from MM to N.... from 6.5h SOT to less than 3hr.
Weird thing is, I did a rollback and factory reset with fresh upgrade to B360 and I got about 80-90% battery life of MM for 4 days. Then suddenly out of the blue it went back to 3hr for two days.
Rolled back to MM and haven't looked back.

Try this and report if your battery life gets better

Friends,
I'm currently using H990DS from Taiwan, normally the phone lasts until 5pm (about 2h30 - 3h screen on). This happened with all my previous devices with promised good battery life like Note 4 or G2. I only installed standard apps like facebook (i know it drained battery), instagram, flipboard...
So yesterday, I did something that today, the battery improved greatly. It's currently at 49% battery with 3h15min screen on, of which over 2h45min of Clash Royale (over wifi)!
So you can try this and maybe it will improve your battery life. I know it work for me, not sure about everyone else.
Step 1: Go to https://myaccount.google.com/dashboard
Step 2: On Audio, may be you see the Audio history is Enable. Please disable it. What it does I believe is to turn off Ok Google detection.
Let's report if you have better battery after.
I will try it. Thanks
Will try as well.
I'll give it a go as well.
I'll try too, it's here to disable btw https://myaccount.google.com/activitycontrols

I suggest you update all the apps, clear the cache in Smart Cleaning. Then restart the phone.
If you it doesn't get better, I think you should remove the battery for 2 mins. plug it back, charge to 100%, use the phone till 0% then charge to 100% again to see if it gets better

So it's been over a week I think since the last post, I find that under my usage (medium to heavy) I get around 4 hours screen on time consistently. In the picture shown, I had around 55% battery with about 2 hours screen on time. However, what I don't get is the phone idle time battery usage. Just look in the picture and you will see what I mean. Furthermore, for half of the day, my phone is in airplane mode, which makes it even stranger. If anyone else is getting something like this or has any suggestions/requires further info, please let me/us know.

You have been using the phone for 15 hrs or more. Yes you used it for 2 hours SOT but for 13 hrs it was idle, that is why phone idle is the biggest battery drain imho. Anyway try using the mart cleaner, it may help reduce idle time battery usages.
Sot is a horrible reference point. You could be using maps in with the screen off, streaming music with the screen off. There's all kinds of things while the screen is off that can consume battery. If your phone can get you through most of the day without a charge you're good. Stop putting so much emphasis on sot..

My point was that Android 7.0 nougat and updated doze have been giving people great standby times, like 1 or two percent gone overnight, without airplane mode too. Compared to my experience, that seems massively different. I was simply wondering if what I had was normal for my LG V20.

Also, for most of the day, my phone is in airplane mode, just sitting in my pocket(I would say about 8 hours of the day or maybe a bit more or less), and the pictures show are similar to what I do every day, and I also use airplane mode the same way every day.

Do you have volte enabled? Lg ims is volte. If you have greenify and see lg ims waking your phone 400 times then that is your issue.

Significant battery drain with Beta 3. Anyone else seeing this ?

My typical day used to get 35-40 hours of total time (not SOT) on Nougat and if I used airplane mode at night lasted 2 work days most of the time.
with Oreo Beta3, I am getting 15 hours give or take an hour. Anyone else seeing this ? Oreo Beta2 drained faster than 7.1, but by a relatively small amount.

35/40 hours? Not a heavy user I take it? I get a full day comfortably but no more.
Installed any new apps?

no difference for me when switching from beta 2 to beta 3
I'm coming from 7.1.1 and yes, standby battery drain is much worse on OB3. I'm seeing a lot of bluetooth_timer wakelocks as one of the culprits.
It does say right on the download page that you will experience battery drain from Bluetooth
I think the battery drain issue was only with the first Oreo build. I haven't had any issues with mine.
I was on OB1 and after I went to OB2 some thing's didn't seem right so I did a factory reset and now on OB3 it's still great.
I've noticed no difference in battery performance at all. I went from 7.1.1 to OB2 to OB3 now. Device is an unlocked model (factory direct) running on Sprint, no root.

So my usage is pretty heavy, but SOT is low, mostly text/email and quick in/out.
Found the culprit. Had moved from Launcher3 to PixelLauncher, that was the hog .. and it showed up as a system consumption. Moved back to Launcher3 and I am back to OB2 levels of drain.
Forgot to mention that I run the Nova launcher with Google feed add-on and I'm a heavy user also
I'm having also a significant battery drain coming from OB2 to OB3. I haven't installed any new apps. What app would you recommend for looking for the culprit? I see everything normal in the Android settings battery monitor.
Yup, my battery life went to crap from ob2 to ob3. I noticed it immediately, i then did a factory reset which fixed the issue for me.
battery got better for me with each beta. now it's better than nougat for me.
Adb log tends to be pretty useful. I have also run top from the adb shell to get the first hint .. and then strategies vary.
Sometimes, it has happened 3 times already, I plug the phone to charge, the screen will say "charging rapidly", the message light will turn yellow. Come to check on the phone 30 minutes later and the phone will be at the same % that I left it before charging it.
Yes I made sure it was plugged and yes it said "charging rapidly". However once it's charged, the battery life in good.
No charging issues at all.
20 hours on and only down 25%.
Estimates 2 days left.
Not doing anything with the phone. Reading a little news and that's about it.
Waiting for unlock so I can dump Sprint.

Good luck getting it unlocked. There are tons of us that are unlocked in Sprint's system but we can't get it to pass UICC.

Then it's not really unlocked.
What OS?
Rooted?
Just wondering if that matters.

Oreo Beta 3. But that shouldn't matter, cause that's a security thing plus essential should have said Sprint users don't sideload and test this for us cause your phone will be borked and we aren't going to do squat for you. Hahahaha.
I'm mad, can ya feel it? Seething in the air.
Yup for me nougat battery is way better than oreo b3..
Omg it's horrible. I am getting 15 hours but 8 of those are in airplane mode wifi only at night and the rest as my second device airplane mode still but wifi and Bluetooth partial times

I am running Nova launcher and launcher3 used to crash in a short loop everyone I hit the home button before I selected Nova as default... Could it be freaking out in the background still?
