Battery issue still not solved? - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Lol emui 5 updated 5-6 times since drop, but battery still sucks even in comparison with 4
I tried all: resets, muting google services (even findmydevice)
on 4 was 7-9 hours of screen, now up to only 5-6

Agreed. It's really disappointing. Before the update GSam reported a battery life of 25-30h depending on how hard I restricted my apps. Always over 25h with my regular use.
Now on Nougat and emui5 I'm down to 16-17h battery life and never over 4h SOT. Even after following all the advices in the battery thread. God I miss xposed.

if you dont afraid, try to replace gapps by gmicro

google definetly slows devices every year.
and you dont see it because it's updated by itself

android 7.0 is the issue. Pixel soon updated to cure this problem. Shame Huawei stuck with 7.0 makes me not want another Huawei/Honor

May be 7.1 would have been better but all devices are stuck with 7.0
Not sure why no 7.1 rollout for these devices as Android 7.0 sources had issues but were rectified later with uodates, but here we have only bug fix updates amd security updates and not much improvement

As much as i love the H8, being left without solid performance updates isn;t good, especially when you go backwards instead of forwards. The battery was amazing when It was on Android 6. From what i can tell this isn't just an Honor "budget" compromise. All Huawei devices are stuck on 7.0! Bite the bullet for a Pixel i guess!

is there any chance to our mate 7 .. to get android n :(

any one have news
Won't happen. Still haven't got a final release of MM for the TL10.....
Huawei are busy with new devices.
I agree with @RobboW. I just received the MM OTA last week (the OTA update didn't even work and I had to update manually, after restoring from a bootloop and no recovery), and the HAM7 is very close to its two year lifespan. If it receives Android N it will be by some miracle or freak chance.
Of course if Huawei would simply release the sources for the device developers can simply create N ROMs for the device, but I can't foresee that happening either.
TL;DR: No, we're probably not getting Android N.
Unfortunately, rather no.
Probably won't happen.

this device is capable to receive 2 more updates
but it is out of market now, no reason to update it
Mine runs fantastic still. I'm streaming bluetooth music tonight with it to my HiFi and no glitches etc, just like it's plugged into my stereo by cable. My Oppo Find 7 which has an SD801 has glitches. Still don't know why.
The Mate 7 is a beautiful device. Underated.
It would be a smart move your Huawei to give us Android n it would give them a good reputation as being good attitude updating unlike Samsung.

It seems that Android N won't come to Honor 6 and 6 plus. Is it true ?

Since Honor 6 and 6 plus are running on Kirin 920, 925 which doesn't support Vulcan API, it seems that it can't be updated to Nougat.
Will Honor provide it by any alternate means, if any?
Got it from Wiki that Kirin 920 and 925 won't support Vulcan API. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_(API)
most probably it wont get as the gpu fails to be compatible with vulkan
I don't think so
Personally,I think google must remove vulcan api as requirement for update. Its like:
''Your phone has the power to handle the next at least 3 android versions, but since your gpu doesnt support vulcan api, which practically has nothing to do with running the os,fock off.''
I also think that 2 versions forward update thing should be broken,I mean we have ultra fast device with 3gb ram,it just doesnt make sense to get stuck on marshmallow, when some phones which are much weaker than our will get nougat.I even got the phone in the end of july...
Meanwhile apple bricking iphone 5 with ios 10.

I agree with you, because of this many great smartphones (like GS5, 1+1 G3...etc) won't get official update

It can be optional but not compulsary.
In Honor series of smartphone this affects Honor 6, 6 plus and 7.

Yes indeed. The 2014 generation flagships finished the progress that the 2013 ones started, what I mean is that they are still running on almost full speed as on their launch, older flagships(galaxy s3 is a perfect example) started to get pretty laggy at some point. If vulcan api is the thing that stopped the breaking of the 2 versions forward update scheme,I hope that at least the 2015 gen ones will do it when android 8 comes out.

most phones should get android 7 as their gpu's have vulkan support, bt its still upto eoms, weather to update or not, even vulkan api supported phones may still be betrayed
Google is the only one to blame here

We can't do anything for betrayal by OEM.. But in this case, OEM do think to provide updates. Due to google restriction, they were unable to.

Cant huawei just release updated drivers and source so devs would be able to build 7.0 themselves? It seems more realistic than a whole new official update.

It didn't even release the basics to building custom ROMs. I doubt they'll do ot now
They already distributed source code some time ago. But no Vulkan support, no Nougat update.

Battery life comparision 5.1.1 vs 6.0.1 vs 7.0

Hello people...
can somebody who used Z5 since 5.1.1 tell me which version has the best battery life ??? actually i bought Z5 last week only nd i got nougat preinstalled so i have no idea which version had best battery life...
If you uninstall all unwanted stock apps, 6.0.1 is the best for battery life.
Stock one use much more battery. 7 is not good at all for me. 5 not tried.

Nougat has terrible battery life, I am thinking of stock, lineageos is not that bad.
Im using lineage OS on my Z5 and i have to say its about as good as LP
Mm and Nn are horrible to me

I have slimx rom currently and i can easy get 6+ SOT, and with moderate usage it can last over 24 hours.
I started on lollipop with my Z5 but honestly I dont really remember how battery life was because I think back then I didn't really care much about it.
On MM I had amazing battery life (talking about standard 6-8hrs SOT) on SlimX same as previous poster
And indeed Nougat is very disappointing so far. 5hrs SOT on a good day.
Gets me through the day, but it was supposed to be better than Nougat, but so far not really...
sony build (android 6) came Dec2016 had the best battery life! with ram management!
sony build (android 5.1) back from sep2015 was one of the amazing roms. all the best features from its ancestor mobiles landing in that rom.
you can downgrade to android 6 if you want.
android 7 latest build has good battery but i am sad about the ram management. with all apps installed i get 30% free
where same apps and usage back in anrdoid6 days i used to get 49% free.
however i never tested march2017 apps version on dec2016 rom. perhaps both have fair share of ram usage.
in order to address this usse! sony's upcoming flagship Xperia XZs and XZ Premium has 4gb ram

Some questions

Hello
I am considering buying the phone but I read bad things about EMUI 4 and was wondering if the phone already received Nougat with EMUI 5?
I am also thinking about the Redmi note 4X, but since camera is important to me, I thought about the Honor 6X. Gaming is not important to me, just good battery life, camera and good software without lag
Emui 5 Beta is out now although stable version is released in China already. Never used redmi products so cannot help you there... But if you're looking to root your phone redmi might be better Cuz snapdragon processor....

For stable software better camera and better battery life go for honor 6x. For me the phone never lags even when playing games and the battery can reach up to 2 full days with moderate useage. Also ive saw many reviews about emui 4 being bad but i find it really good and im enjoying it so much

In Europe, EMUI 5 is been realeased OTA in these days. I haven't received yet, but I think I will soon.
I recommend you Honor 6x over Redmi.
I have used emui 4.1 and now using emui 5 beta in indian version I can say best os I ever found is emui its heavily customized plus with no lags nd I have tried almost every OS miui los rr etc but this one is different nd m in love with this OS
Buy the phone, and update to emui 5.0 ( MUCH MUCH better than emui 4.1) - althoughyou gotta waut for a week or two for the OTA official update

Honor Note 10 upgraded to EMUI 9.1.0.333

Although other honor devices is getting beta emui 10, Honor Note 10 users have to be contented with emui 9.1.0.333.:crying:
I'm on 317, 333 which region are you coming from? Yea, they seems forget about our note 10 customers, really want this device running emui 10 with dark mode, too bad they don't plan on that.

I'm still on 319...No updates after that...
Battery life is pretty bad in Pie...In Oreo, I used to easily get 2 days+ battery life in mid to low usage...Now in 9.1, I get less than a day with the same usage...When I fully charge my battery to 100%, it shows only like 19-20 hours remaining which is pathetic for a 5000 mAH battery phone...Like for example, my phone is now at 70% charge & it's showing only 12 hours left...
I'm hoping to get Android 10 soon & hoping that it will bring back the battery life like Oreo but over the years, with every other phones I had, I have noticed that every higher android version only decreased the battery life, never improved on it or even provided the same battery life like their earlier version...

Don't update to 9.1.0.333 it sucks!
Apps crashing and wireless connection horrible.
I sent an email to Huawei a week ago and no response!
I've had no issues at all with the latest update.
I really feel like going all the way back to Oreo...Pie 9.0 & 9.1 both have horrible battery life...I'm now on 9.1.0.333 & I'm having to charge everyday even though I'm a very light user....After a full charge, battery is not even lasting 24 hours...In Oreo, I easily used to get 2 days+ with the same usage...
I feel like the 5000 mAH specification of the battery is either fake or is of very poor quality...
That is a strange one. I am also a medium to light user and can get longer than a day between charges.
One thing I always do after a major update is do 2 factory resets. One after the other. Then reload all my apps.
Will do the same if we get Android 10. May seem over the top and maybe unnecessary, but it works for me..

After a major update, I always do factory resets even like 4-5 times all at once just to be sure enough to clean everything up...I know it may sound like silly to factory reset so many times at one go but I'm doing that from Oreo & will continue doing that in Android 10 also...
Problem is, even after doing several factory resets & installing apps, for first few days or even weeks it shows good battery life left when checking the battery section of the phone but after sometime, let's say like after 1-1.5 months, the battery life gets bad again...
As an example, I recharged my phone yesterday (31st Dec) at 11 PM & currently it's 9 PM of 1st January & the battery life is at 35% now & showing about 8 hours left & all I did from yesterday was using FB & Whatsapp & that too not heavily as I mostly use my lappy to come online...
It's not at all possible for me to keep doing factory resets every month to get the proper battery life back...Oreo didn't have this problem for me...Yes after a period, the battery life used to get deteriorated a bit compared to a newly installed OS but definitely not to this extent like Pie...
Happy New Year to Everyone anyways...May all of your dreams be fulfilled this year & wishing lots of happiness & good health for everyone...
