Yu Fly F8 - Anyone else tried this model? - Yu Yunique Questions & Answers

Hi,
Apologies for posting here, but I have not found much on this phone and this thread seemed closer than any other! I got one from Coolicool for less than 90Euros and it seems a pretty good spec and nice in the hand.
5.5 Inch IPS Sharp Screen, 1920*1080 Pixel
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 1.5GHz Octa Core
- Support Touch ID
- 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM, Support 32GB TF Card Expansion
- 13 MP Back Camera + 8 MP Front Camera
- Android 6.0 System
- 3050mAh Battery
- Dual SIM: NANO SIM + NANO SIM / TF Card (Another SIM Slot Can Be Used in Combination with a NANO SIM Card or a TF Card)
- Band: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz, WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz, FDD-LTE B1/B3/B7, Support 2G & 3G & 4G LTE Networ
For me main negatives are the Android 6 and the non-removable battery so looking for ways that may allow a new ROM to 7 or beyond but can't see any posts anywhere let alone a community.
For my FiL it will not be a big problem but I thought as a base it might be a good low cost phone for me next time.
Any pointers very welcome!

Hi!
It is a piece of sh.t. Do not buy. At a first look it looks very good and fast, but:
- it doesn't have nor event LED indicator nor charge LED
- in settings - about phone it says Android 6.0 but all programs say Android 5.1.1 (if manufacturer plays with cheating it is a very bad alarm)
- if you install another launcher (I tried Nova Launcher) and then reboot phone it will always ignore default launcher selection and revert back to original launcher
- there is no community and so there will be no new ROMs
- if you use 2 SIM cards you will have only 11 Gb free memory because one SIM card share slot with microSD
- at every reboot it suggests to set settings for SIM card like if you installed new SIM card (annoying)
- if you will do factory reset your phone will also format emulated internal SD - bye-bye your backups and all your things you wanted to save before making factory reset.

Cheap smartphone which feels solid and fast. It's indeed not running Marshmallow and there is no root method yet available.

port rom please

[Q] LG P500: microSDHC & phone display issues

I bought a new microSDHC today - 32GB Class 10, A-data - because I'm selling my iPod and want to put my 23GB of music onto my phone.
The problem I have is that since I put the new one in, my phone sometimes (well... often) becomes unresponsive after the screen turns off. Even the power button doesn't do anything, and I have to take out the battery and put it back in just to turn the phone back on.
Has anyone else experienced this? As you can imagine it's incredibly frustrating. Using the GTR-X 5.8 ROM (based on CM7.2).
Iam sorry to say that the P500 only Supports SD Cards up to 16GB with Class 6. All above can (but not must, its a little bit wird) resolved in strange kind of Errors like in youre case.
That's interesting - where did you find that information? I did some research before buying the card and nothing indicated that. It's working fine now though, I just fiddled with it a bit and made sure it was aligned properly.
Well try this and see if it helps
First use normal less capacity sd, if you have otherwise skip this
1. Reflash the rom or any other better rom(there is better version of gtr rom)
Now put back 32 gb sd
2.download app sd booster from play store
3.set cache 2048 kb
4. check now if everythings fine

There is no relation between the SD card and the phone not responding issue.
To isolate the issue you can remove the SD card and try again.
By the way, LG Optimus One supports upto 32 GB size SD cards. So there is no harm to use 32GB SD cards in your case.
If it is the issue, this could be with your custom ROM update.
You can try the PAC-MAN 19.9.9 JellyBean 4.2.1 recent update. Camera, display and more feaures there. I am using it currently. Except the battery drain issue

What a great phone! I bought one for the time between selling my Samsung Note 5 and picking up the new S7, however it's ticking all the boxes for me! I might even use it for a while until Oppo release a higher end 820 Qualcomm handset.
Very impressed!!
My positives are:
1. tap to wake
2. decent battery life
3. No lag
4. great screen - very bright - touch on the cold side
5. good 4G and wifi speeds
6. expandible memory with option of dual sim
7. Android 5.1.1
Negs
1. no backlights for the hardware buttons
2. no 5ghz wifi - seems only to pick up 2.4ghz wifi routers
I have purchased this phone also, after breaking the screen on my samsung galaxy note. I have to say I'm very impressed with this phone.
Here are my (+)
1. great build quality premium look and feel
2. Excellent performance no lag whatsoever
3. wide bands good overall coverage 4g and wifi
4. good colours, bright screen
5. I like the custom software colorOS very responsive.
6. Easy to grip and 5" size is best to keep in your pocket without compromising screen estate
7. radio
(-)
1. 720P not very noticeable still enjoyable to view videos and games
2. some apps have push notification issues like linkedin and ebay
+ and - as mentioned above
even only 2500 mah, really amazed with battery life :good::good:
ColorOS really smooth :good::good:
I have seen in numerous reviews, they say that oppo F1 have only Accelerometer, proximity, compass, Magnetic Sensors but no gyro. But after I bought the mobile I have seen that is equipped with Gyroscope Sensor named OEM pseudo gyro. This sensor is not accurate, but gets the job done. Many people ask for gyro because its needed for occasional VR.

I thought if you have a compass then gyro is activated, how do you use that feature?
I'm not sure if i should open another thread about this, but i was wondering if anyone is experience push notification issues with some apps on the Oppo F1. For e.g. I don't get notifications from the ebay app nor linkedin, or some of the chat apps. Also viber doesn't seem to add or sync with my contacts but i do get messages and calls. I would like to get other peoples thoughts.

No gyro is another sensor. It can sense rotation. Its used in vr headset to measure head rotation. Recently some manufacturers implement virtual gyroscope which uses software emulation using Accelerometer & Magnetic compass for rotation tracking. It minimizes cost. I think similar supplementation hase been done in oppo f1.

Just bought one and is still on the way from optus online shop. Anyways, did you guys feel a need of a custom ROM or the stock one is decent enough?

The F1 is locked up tighter than a politician's point of view. No easy way to root and so difficult to customise.
Also want to point out that optus version has a snapdragon 615 not a 616. Still rapid processor and miles quicker than the s3 I was using. The optus Model number is F1f .

Stock is fine, I found the keyboard annoying, so downloaded google keyboard and sorted.
my HTCM9 died suddenly for no reason at all, its been in service a month and still in service so I just bought the F1 two days ago.
My positives for my F1 are:
1. Octacore
2. decent battery life - especially considering its just got a 2500 mAh battery.
3. Not much lag
4. PRICE
5. Looks (almost like a flagship)
6. external SD card - up to 128Gb.
7. Dual SIM
8. Qualcomm Snapdragon
9. Not hot at all (My HTC M9 was so much hotter!)
10. feels good in the hand (size, shape, dimension)
11. Did I say Value for money is very good? !
12. Comes with screen protector pre-installed already
13. OPPO shop gave me a free phone case (cheap but good)
14 the 3 GB RAM handles most you need
15 in headphone sound quality is very good for the price you pay.
16. Warranty seems ok.
17. AppOps equivalent (App Permissions to control each app is inbuilt app can be activated via Security Centre App)
Negs
1. no backlights for the hardware buttons
2. ColourOS is a bit buggy . Some app notifications on status bar appear then disappear. weird.
3. ClolourOS has NO full disk encryption (couldnt find it at all in settings, let me know if you do) - but it does have encryption of each app available by default app Security Centre>Privacy permissions>"App Encryption".
4. No root available and no custom roms available at this moment.
5. if using nano sim and SD card together, you MUST put a micro SIM card adapter (with your nano sim) in the first slot and SD card in second slot. ie .If you only have nano sim, and you want to use SD card also, you must use a nano sim to micro sim adapter in the first slot, and then put your SD card in the second slot. OR if you dont use SD card then you can put your nano sim sideways in the second slot without need for any adaptor, but then you cant put your SD card in the first slot.. (why OPPO not include a SIM card adapter in the box since many people have nano sim card now and SD card also?) Lucky the shop gave me one so i could test everything in store before I took it away. They wasted like an hour in the shop trying to figure it out.
6. its not a flagship phone
7 default keyboard. hated it. switched to another keyboard app.
8 [screen a bit too sensitive, eg when using handsfree call (phone on speaker) the speaker goes on and off , if you put the phone a bit too close to your face or if your hand touches the top by accident. Never had a phone that did that. (anyone know how to make it handsfree speaker permanent during calls let me know)]< Update- FIXED via the hard to find setting>gesture&motion>smartcall>"switch to speaker by motions"> click "OFF".
9 headphone ear plugs suck. not comfortable in ears. (why they didnt provide the small foam cushions that cost next to nothing?)
10 external speakers not loud enough.
11. THE sim/sd card tray is VERY fragile on the edges, mine bent first time I slid the tray in with Simcard and SD card, you have to get it perfect fit before you push in, otherwise, if the tip catches, it bends very easily on the edge. (I just pushed it back to shape and its fine now, but they made it a bit too soft).
if you want to get a Samsung phone for half the price, but almost same capability, then OPPO is the one. I would recommend the F1 to anyone looking to buy a phone in that budget.
just bought F1 today and already encounter a problem..oppo F1 doesn't allow u to move apps from phone to sd card... any way to fix this problem?

another problem...who is the idiot who designed the ColorOS without an app drawer? Usually if we tap the home button twice it goes to app drawer on other roms. where is the app drawer??? in beginning, i mistakenly moved some default app icons off home screen/launcher and now I can't replace them back? wtf? and I now cant launch them directly eg "double-exposure" and "expert mode" from icons.. I am beginning to find colorOS a little annoying.
Install Nova launcher or smart launcher problem solved.

Not really. I had already tried Nova Launcher before, but the app drawer on Nova Lancher does not show the default OPPO F1 icon for " "double-exposure" and "expert mode" and few others. Another "App Drawer Free" app on PlayStore shows the icons but you can't launch the app from the icons.( It's only for the paid version.) I personally think ColorOS is just silly not to have an app drawer. (unless there is another way to access the default app drawer from ColorOS and I dont know about it).

Hello, and thanks for the review.
Do you (or others) confirm that you can use a SD card and a micro Sim card, at the same time?
I don't have a nano Sim, just a micro Sim. Will I be able to use the phone with a micro SIM while there is a SD card in the other slot?
Or do I need to buy a nano sim to be able to also use the SD card?
Thanks in advance

option A: Micro Sim >Slot 1, SD card >Slot 2 >is OK
option B: Micro SIm >Slot 1 and NanoSIM (put in sideways with no adapter)>Slot 2, but NO SD card. >is OK
Option C: Nano Sim ONLY, with NO adapter, then > MUST put Nano Sim in slot 2 sideways, But then you cant put your SD card in. (ie Sd card only fits in Slot 2. And the Nano SIM only fits in slot 2, but you can't have BOTH nano sim and SD card in slot 2). ie Slot 1 can ONLY put micro SIM size card.
Option D: Nano Sim AND SD card (up to 128Gb) then> Nano sim + "Micro SIM Adapter" >Slot 1, and then SD card >must be in slot2> is OK (you may need to fiddle the adapter to make sure it fits in perfectly - tip - slide tray in SLOWLY)
hope this helps.

Question SD card slot

So, Sammy did this same erroneous move on the S6 and now again on the S21, no sd card slot. I know any replies are speculative at best, but do we suppose that theyre gonna bring it back on the 22? they cited the exact same bs reason on the S6 "storage will be in the cloud" as this time. I guess my real question is anyone really missing the sd card slot and any speculations of Sammy bringing it back on the 22?
I sincerely doubt it'll come back, their most direct competitor (Apple) hasn't supported secondary storage ever so the general public doesn't seem to care.
I have an S21+ and I made sure to get one with 256 GB storage - I reviewed how much local storage I used on my S*+ SD card and "only" had about 100GB on a device with only 64GB internal storage. So, I figure 256 should be okay long term.
The only class of data I haven't pulled across from my SD card was the local photo albums, but they were only a few GB. I may yet refresh that but the days of "here look at my pics" and not having enough data network or wifi for Google Photos to function well are long behind me.
Now, the offline mapping data and offline music storage - that's the bulk of my data, and the ~ 100 GB usage leaves plenty of space left for apps and OS updates and such, for me.
If your uses include numerous large apps (e.g. games) and much more content then you'd need the 512GB variant to be safe, IMO.

I almost didn't buy my S21+ 5G because of no SD card slot.
My S9+ had the SD card slot and I miss it.
Screw samsung. No slot, no sale.
Between that and Android 11/12 and their Apple lust, the next release looks like it will be more dog meat. I'll get a used Note 10+ 512gb running on Pie, remain happy and save money.
Ain't nothing to me...
The Note 20 U is the other option but it's price for now is too high. If it doesn't have a huge square cornered display, I don't want to look at it.
The round corner displays looked horrible. Samsung will probably screw up there too.
I honestly don't miss it. I thought I would, so I opted for the 256GB model and even that still appears to be overkill at this point. I get that there are certainly use cases where it would be critical for some people, but Samsung isn't targeting those folks.

You use the SD card as a data drive.
Yes... a dual drive hand held computer.
Even my laptop is set up like this.
Only the OS, apps and downloads go on the internal memory. The data is more secure on a separate drive.
I can do a factory reset without losing data and no internet connection. No hours of reloading data.
Even my app copies are stored there, no Playstore needed.
A full reload on my stock phone takes me about 2 hours to fully restore.
Try AnyBackup, you can transfer your data to micro SD card easily, if you are a fan of Micro SD card.
you can google it for details.
SD card slots are like the optical drives in PC, IMHO. You're scared that you might need it one day, but they're obsolete already. You can easily (and better) replace them with USB-C flash drives. I've been without an optical drive on my pc for 10 years and without SD card on my phones for 3+ years (Starting with Huawei P20 Pro and now GS21+) and never have a problem. Won't go back to SD cards either as well.
I never use SD cards as data storage mainly because they're slow. Try recording a 4K video on SD card and you'll know what I mean. Unless you've got a UHS II or above class SD card, you'll have problems.
Storage space-wise, My P20 Pro is 128GB and now my GS21+ is 256 GB and I never have problem with space. If you took a lot of videos or photos, just backup your vids or photos to a USB-C flash drive and delete it from your phone periodically.

I remember those days where I flash my phone twice every week with the CyanogenMod nightlies and have to backup/ restore data every time. I did the same as you mount/ remount SD card as data partition. But those days are gone. And most of those people are too. They're not left much, becoming endangered species already. Most of the normal phone users never factory reset their phones and wipe/ restore their data every Friday. Samsung knows it. Huawei knows it. There is more performance benefit in chopping SD card off and use faster internal storage for all the read/writes.
Actually Huawei tries to save it with their home-brew Nano Memory Card but didn't succeed. Not a lot of people buying those cards. So, yeah, they listened to the market instead of a bunch of enthusiastic "power" users. We need to find our own way for our better convenience to adapt the changes.

All my machines are dual or greater. Even my ancient Dell laptop.
No SD card slot, no sale... it's simply too much of a burden not to have one.
I could easily put 1.5 tb of data on a drive. Right now it's about 340 gb. To load that on the internal takes about 6 hours making a factory reset an all day nightmare.
Really I want dual SD card slots...

Oh yes, I've also have 3 HDDs (one M.2 boot drive, + one 3.5" HDD for Data + Apps and one 2.5" HDD for music) in my desktop, 2 HDDs in my office laptop (Boot + Data) and only 1 drive in my personal laptop (Lenovo Yoga which everything is soldered onto the mobo). But the sad thing is you don't get my point. From the manufacturers' POV, you're one out of million. And they won't care. Coz the rest of 99.99999% of the users don't need what you need.
Sadly, it's not No SD, no sale. Apple already proved it. Huawei already proved it. Pixel already proved it. It's just no SD, no buy for you only bro. Get real.

Sadly, it's not No SD, no sale. Apple already proved it. Huawei already proved it. Pixel already proved it. It's just no SD, no buy for you only bro. Get real.

Allow me to retort...
I'm real. That's why I'm holding a dual drive 1 tb 10+ in my hand at this moment
I wouldn't have an Apple or Pixel if they were free let alone hackware from the CCP even if they had SD card slots
They proved nothing; there's a sucker born every minute. You can get rich on them, that was proven over a hundred years ago.

No SD card slot was a bad bet on Samsung's part. High end phones are a luxury now... they better be loaded with more than bloatware. It is their customers that define them not the other way around. Customer loyalty is a gift best not abused.
Word on the street is there will more flagship phones with SD card slots in 2022.
Either way I'm good for another 5 years.
Right it's Android that's the bottleneck... and it's in a high G flat spin. 11 is a disaster.
Q is as high as I'll go but Pie is preferable.
In five years Android like Apple may not matter to me
I miss it for a number of reasons. Granted I have a need for lots of storage as I travel quite often and I enjoy having a wide variety of movies and music at my disposal, over 300GB just in movies. So it boils down to preferences. Cloud Storage is a no go, it comes at a cost per month and it's venerable to security and privacy hacks. Transferring a large amount of data to a different device is done in seconds, not minutes or hours. For most 256GB is sufficient but after system usage is subtracted you'll have closer to 200GB left for data and apps. I held off on acquiring the S21 Ultra and lack of the SD Micro was the main reason. Samsung lowered the Internal Storage on the S21 and S21 Plus, maxed out at 256GB but prior to that you could get up to 1TB on previous S Series devices. Also forget about getting a 512GB device from a US Branded Carrier, they don't have any! I would have aquired a 128GB S21 Ultra like I did on my S10 Plus, plug in the card and I'm done, IF it had external memory. So Samsung got what they wanted, $400.00 more of my hard earned money!

that's because you've got 300+ GB of movies. If you've got 1.5 TB of movies like mine, you'll give up the idea of putting all your movies in your phone. Moreover, how many of the movies have you actually watch when you're travelling?
And what you said is correct, the cloud storage is totally no-go. Unnecessarily expensive. My solution to the problem is a private cloud. A cloud enabled NAS is the solution you should look for. It's cost-effective in long term. Many of those NAS has got built-in Plex Media Server so that you can stream all the movies and music you've left at home from anywhere. Yes, data charges might incur. Plex always allow you to download some movies for offline viewing. For me, it's a good investment, especially when it's not a one-device solution. I can stream my own movies from my laptop, my smart TV, my phone, my desktop, virtually anywhere as long as it has internet access.

So... you really do need the 2 SD card slots
Cloud stuff can puke all over you at any given moment. At least it take a near EMI pulse to kill the phone otherwise even with no internet you still got some fun in your pocket.

It's not a question of how many movies I can watch, it's having the ability to watch anything I chose. Same with music however audio files are nowhere near the size as movies which are typically 1.5 to 3GB's. Your solution isn't practical for ME as many times my travel is on long haul flights, 15 hours or more where accessing the internet is costly or in some instances unavailable. So this solution is the most practical option. NAS may be a more secure cloud platform but it's still not beyond the reach of expert hackers if they ever chose to target it. Beyond that lots of users still utilize and appreciate MicroSD Storage on phones, laptops and PC's and many feel Samsung and other manufacturers dropped the feature too soon without having a more practical solution in place. Samsung and others main goal was increasing profitability, which explains why they cut back on internal storage on S21 and S21 Plus devices. To put it in prospective up until the S21 you could have your total memory up to 2TB's but now most are limited to 256GB's and a lower share at 512GB's. That's a huge difference one model later. Then on dual-sim card trays Samsung modified the template so it's now stacked to save internal space. They could have easily made one side of the tray template a bit larger to accommodate a MicroSD. So the issue isn't with saving hardware space, it's no doubt $$$. To pay around $1,400.00 USD for a massive device without a tiny MicroSD is a sin!
