Hello,
Lately I've been noticing that after some usage my phone starts showing white horizontal lines across the screen. This happens when I touch the screen a lot in a short period of time. So for example when I swipe across the screen as fast as I can for a good 30 seconds. The picture shown doesn't really represent how well you can see it with the naked eye. It's much more noticeable in real life.
What could cause this issue? And is it a software issue or could this lead to a permanent hardware issue that needs to be fixed?
Thanks in advance!

I suffer from the same flaw (and many others). It's more noticeable with some colors and also against darker backgrounds. Unfortunately it's a hardware problem that needs to be replaced. I guess that glass is not enough separated from the screen itself.

Nothing. It seems to be a hardware issue.
I'm now trying to send my phone back for warranty, but it seems like there's a shortage of new screens at the repair centre in The Netherlands.
I have had same problem but right now I cannot see these lines. They dissapeared, for now.
Sent from my HTC U11 using Tapatalk
Same problem here, sometimes i can see horizontal lines on darker colors. After a lock/unlock the lines are gone.
Anybody figured out for sure what causes this or had contact with HTC repair center and got a replacement or an answer as to what's going on ?
mine has the same problem after 4 months of use - will probably call the support
did you get yours fixed?
same problem here but doesnt bother me , strange to see
here is a pic of mine - today after 4 months of use it started appearing!
Hi, I have the same issue, three days after bought the smartphone. It shows this lines 8 times for two weeks ...
Anybody sent it to support warranty?
Same issue here, just started a couple weeks ago and hasn't gone away, even after a factory reset (to get that out of the way for when I take it in to my Sprint store.) Guess I'll see what Sprint says on Tuesday °¬°
Its a weird one. I got mine a couple days ago. I saw this for a couple mins when i first played with it. Bur havent seen it aftee using for hours since. Not sure if it is completely hardware. Weird how it can come and go
O just started getting this along with my ghost touch issues. This phone is a pos. My bootloader is unlocked as well. Anyone know HTC warranty coverage after that?
when i clean my phone with a microfiber cloth and i turn on the screen, i see the lines sometimes! maybe some pressure on some site and thats because the lines appears?
It seems to be a software issue.
The lines appear sometimes without any touching of the LCD and they also go away without any touching or pressure on the LCD ( thus we can conclude that it's not the digitizer ).
I dont think so, my wife has the same phone and hers phone doesnt make it.
Mine does it too!
I made a post about it weeks ago because I had the same issue and was actually in here looking for it.
If I turn the phone upside down and wipe the whole phone I have white lines across my display.
Seems like my educated guess on it being a software issue ( bug ) and not a hardware issue ( bad application/mount of the digitizer ) was right.
Can't get these horizontal lines to appear again no matter what I do since the Oreo update on my u11.
Hi mates,
After my device have received the last update (Android Oreo 8.0) this problem disappeared. The same was happening with you?

Turned off my tf last night to charge. Turned her back on now and the boot screen is neon green and so is everything else. Anyone have this problem before?
either overheated cpu/gpu pover off for a couple hours then turn it back on
or digitizer cable is loose either open it yourself or rma
i just took some screen shots and opened them on my computer. The colors are normal. Ill try the power off for a few hours and see what happens. Any other suggestions?
ok if the screen shots are normal that probobly means something is wrong with teh screen its self as like i said before loose digitizer cable
My TF was turned off all day today and is still giving me the green screen. Here are some pictures of what I'm still dealing with.

You could do it your self and to be honest with all the rma horror stories id fix it myself if i was in your shoes

I actually had the same problem and I jsut turned it off for a couple of hours and it went back to normal
Yeppers... me too.
I noticed some green digitized flickering yesterday when I was moving/angling the tablet while docked. When I opened it, the green digitized color would flash and then go away. I undocked the tablet, powered off and restarted.
The green color was still present and it seemed to go and come as I pressed into the screen. It was almost like the screen was loose a bit from the casing. I did a hard reboot followed by a factory reset. Still the screen was flickering with the green digitized. I found that once I ran my thumb around the edges ensuring that it was tightly fit inside the casing that the screen went back to normal.
I never lost any function or touch sensitivity but am certain that my screen was loosening up abit from the casing. I mailed it off with RMA ticket today. I hope they will fix my tablet and return it soon or replace it.
Tablet has never been dropped, but I do dock & undock often. Furthermore I've found that while docked the tablet wont open much beyond 90 degrees. I'm wondering if me constantly opening it up to it's maximum angle while docked weakened or stressed the casing and loosened the screen. Not sure.
I could not find a bunch of these issues with the TF101 so I'm hoping this is not symptomatic of this model with heavy dock/undock use.
What's the normal turnaround time on these RMAs? Any ideas?
I had sort of simular problem with my transformer. After charging my screen was green and pink.
They will fix at rma because it is backlight leaking. Thats what my report said.
The service wen i sended it was fast. Send on tuesday and 7 days later the allready mailed it back with a new screen.
Mine, definitely had some light bleed around at least 3 sides, but it wasn't distracting so I just ignored it. Hope to get it back soon and without any further issues.

Wait, I can send it in for light bleed?
On a black screen I can see bright spots in the edges, apparently where the backlight is.. I figured it was normal.
Also I have 8 or 10 stuck-on-white pixels. You can't find them unless you have a Black screen. Can I RMA it?
I just got back my son's Transformer from repair after his screen did the same thing only his was red.
Called in to get RMA but was told to do a factory reset first. That, of course, did nothing so back it went. Seems to be fine now but it has only been back a day.
You should have no problem getting it approved for RMA.

It might be a problem with the screen connection
So I recently was on stock 4.4.2. Sometimes my screen would freeze, lines would go across the screen vertically & horizontally but I could still see some of the screen I was on. I would simply Hold Pwr VolUp VolDown and reboot and screen proceeded to work. Then i decided to goto Android L. I already had the 4.4.4 firmware but updated to the 5.0 firmware. I then installed the liquid smooth rom. This kept happening and eventually got scared and went back to the backup I had made of stock rom. Then I went to CM12. I liked it alot almost no bugs. But this kept happening. I later began to experience something different. Only vertical lines. Each time they are different. I once waited for it to boot and messed with the volume rockers and heard it go down and then vibrate. So im guessing system still works. I dont know where to go from here. Heres a pic of what Im getting when I try to startup.

Sometimes it is a bit of blue on the side. I know my screen isnt fully dead because sometimes when it starts to decrease in brightness after I booted I touch it and brightness goes back up for a little. Also when I turn it off its black and when I turn it on its the vertical lines. They arent the same each time and sometimes when I boot they become just 4 or 5 fat vertical bars. I am S-off & rooted. I have ADB and fastboot but I never had plugged it into my computer on this rom so i never had time to allow it, but I did turn on usb debugging. I once made it to hbot, the top was a white color and I hit power, then VolDown three or two times and power again and it looked like it rebooted. I bought it from Amazon and their customer support is great. Anyway to get a new one without them knowing I messed with it? Did installing the custom rom trip anything? Last time I was in hboot it was Official and Unlocked. I didnt but it unlocked, it happened when I used firewater. Also if I smash my screen and sent it to HTC(Ive had it for only like ~40 days)would they go digging and find I had a custom rom and flip out on me? All help is appreciated. Also as stated above I believe I never tripped the tampered flag and do have a working nandroid backup. Thanks for your help
Just booted it again it was the lines again but it was red then went to black borders and some distinct purple lines
That happened to me on my LG G2 but thank god it was under warranty. My replacement was the M8 I'm using now and I haven't a problem yet..fingers crossed.
What happened with my G2 is it started to get really warm then the screen went bright bright white. Rebooted and I had permanent white vertical lines on my screen. After a couple days the few white lines became my whole screen.
I was also running a custom ROM when this happened so I'm not sure if it was something in the ROM that got it going or if it was the device itself. But our phones are different makers and brands with different ROMs.
Mine never recovered so thank god for the warranty. Wish you luck

Honestly I doubt it. If the screen is shot there's really no way for them to even see it unless they want to be bothered to hook it up to adb. I had to take mine back in person to BestBuy...unlocked and everything...they saw the screen, tried a couple reboots and a battery pull (like I didn't lol), then checked for water and external damages but there were none so now I own an M8
Hello, as mentioned before, sometimes I cannot wake my device. The entire screen is blank. I have to keep pressing the power button many times to turn on the device. Sometimes I have to wait for 30 minutes or more and try again before the device turns on. Few months ago, I took it to Samsung. They said that it was due to a faulty screen. They replaced a new one for me but after about 2-3 weeks, same thing happen.
Recently, for a few days, the device also rebooted by itself like crazy. This happened especially when I used the stock Camera app to take photos. Sometimes it happened when I pressed the Camera app icon. In most cases, this happened when I pressed the button to shoot photo.
Few days ago, the screen brinked a few times and rebooted by itself. Even there were about 30% battery power, at one point it reported 0%. When I plugged the device to the power supply, the problem disappeared and the device charged.
Are these things due to software issue or hardware issue? As you know, the apps update by themselves often.

Battery's capacity fluctuation, flickering screen, auto reboot, auto shut down, are common caused by cracked battery connector.
You can inspect the battery connector under magnified glass, push it slightly right or left to see if it's moving. A battery connector with cracked solders will move easily by this test.
A quick rework will take under 5 minutes to melt and add more solders to the 6 pins of battery connector. A repair shop or anyone knows how to solder can help you.
This is what this connector looks like:

A quick test: slap hard on the back cover with your hand, your tablet will shut down immediately if the battery connector is badly cracked.
Be aware that some depot techs are technical incompetent to troubleshoot or repair a particular issue like this one.
Thanks. I performed the test you described. The tablet did not shut down immediately. I slapped it hard a few times. No shutting down. I suspect it is related to software because the issues seem to have happened in blocks of time. i.e. 1-2 days of problems. No problem. 1-2 days of problems, etc.

The quick test I mentioned only work with badly loose battery connector, the one that can lift off easily or move if pushed. Other cases, cracked solders cause intermittent power or quick discharge or running hot battery. Your intermittent problems could be some pins have crack but not all of them.
Believe me or not, this is not software but hardware problem common seen in Galaxy Note and others, I try to point to the right direction but it's up to you to figure out.
I had no problem with my device for a few weeks. Recently, very often the device restarted when I pressed the built-in camera app. Don't you think this is a software problem?

The easiest way to verify, back up then reset your tablet. If problem starts again with fresh system, this is not software but hardware problem.
However, flickering screen and auto reboot is not software. These problems often cause by cracked battery connector.
You need to read the " Flickering " thread to see what is the source of your problem. In this forum, it has more than 30,000 views and another forum ( Android Central ), it has more than 100,000 views. These numbers will tell, you are not the only one to have it.
I found that when the battery level is low, the device flickering and reboot by itself like crazy.

I think the only way to convince you this is not software problem: take the back cover off when battery is low, pressing directly on the battery connector, the flickering screen will stop immediately. Another user followed my advice, applied pressure on the battery connector helped his tablet to boot.

There are too many of them on Ebay or Amazon, you should have at least one Metal Spudger because other plastic tools are prone to break after few uses, but plastic tools cause less damages to the case with no experienced users.

It is almost entirely unresponsive. I've tried turning it off and then back on, but it just reboots to this screen. Sometimes I can get it to go to the unlock screen, but it isn't responsive when I'm there, and eventually that screen just fades away into a blank gray (with this multicolored bar at the top remaining). Occasionally it will say "Optimizing apps", but then nothing happens after that.
Has anyone seen anything like this, know what caused it, or know how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As of now I've taken out the sim card, and am going to wait until it runs out of battery to see if I can recharge it and reboot normally.
I'm a tad confused, in the picture I see one busted ass n5 lol but you say it boots up? When did you take that picture? It looks like the screen is done in.

Same
so, here's a quick rundown.
have had mine since nov '13.
always in great condition.
not a scratch.
then, out of nowhere (2 weeks ago) after trying to turn the screen back on from standby...nothing.
it automagically rebooted.
oooooook.
no biggie.
after reboot all was well.
for an hour.
then, turned right off in the middle of whatever i was doing.
just...poof. black screen.
wouldn't reboot.
plugged it in over night.
turned on the next day perfectly fine.
after a few minutes...blank screen.
HOWEVER, the led would throb.
then, at some point, the phone rang.
i could answer it with my headphones.
deactivated the phone from my account.
charged it over night.
vol+power and all manner of combos.
the one consistent thing that always happened was that my phone vibrated, followed by a similar colored pixelation as seen above.
sometimes just a line, other times the entire screen.
didn't take much to realise it was the panel combo.
outside of warranty.
so, sent it to lg. they agreed...panel issue. loose connection or bad connection, i'm assuming.
currently being repaired.
being shipped back by the end of this coming week, i hope.
* since my hunch was that it was just a panel issue...i was going to drop it off at one of many "the device shop" repair places (and, their ilk) where i live. however, after walking into a few of them...it's obvious that 90% of their business comes from iphones. they, barely knew what panel replacement they were looking for. they said they had one a few times only to have it turn out to be a nex 4, or some other panel, each time. they just seemed...well, let's just say i'm positive they can repair an iphone panel. anything more than that...i'd rather give it to my 12 yo cousin. same result. felt better sending it to LG.
And you posted that here?? Why

my words
Hello all, I want to apologize ahead of time for the long post.
I recently lurked some threads to get my Honor 8 (L04 version) rooted. After 2 days of stress, near bricks and some tears I finally got set up,unlocked bootloader TWRP, Magisk root etc.
Now, I don't think this is related to that process but I happened to get a text message and when I turned on my screen, the lockscreen was "glitched" my wallpaper was the default one and half the screen was black like a dialog box should be there, kind of where the unlock pin numbers would take up space, except solid black. Then I picked up my phone and it worked fine.
Here is the thing, I have NFC off (by choice not because it broke during unlocking) but my phone was resting on top of a spare phone I use for music only when I go to the gym/running. The other phone is a BLU NEO X MINI. After some trial and error I think I know what is going on but not sure why.
If my phone is pressed up against that BLU phone and I shift it around my Honor 8 wakes up to the lockscreen. Sometimes my normal lockscreen sometimes the weird one that is glitched out. It doesn't do it if the phones are facing each other though screen to screen. I then tried with a very old EVO 3D I had and it doesnt do it either, and with an iPhone 4 and 5, also didn't cause it.
I 'm fairly certain the BLU does not have NFC but something is definitely weird. Any info would help.

If u have the time I'll recommend u to wipe ur phone and restore to stock for maybe a day before rooting again. The last time I tried rooting even my phone acted up, worse than urs in fact, I lost NFC and the firmware was corrupt so I didn't have WiFi working and I didn't have a keyboard.....

Thank you for the replies. I believe I know what is causing it after some trial and error. I grabbed some rfid/nfc capable cards to see if it would trigger it and it didn't. So I started wondering what might cause it, I turned off the BLU phone completely then pressed it against my Honor 8 while it was on, and it locked the screen. I then wondered what if it was a magnetic thing, and googled for some answers and found another thread here about the smart cover causing an issue, that actually had a picture of what my screen looks like.

So at this point I believe it was the magnetic sensor for a smart cover on the Honor 8 just happens to be triggered by the BLU phone specifically, maybe the BLU has a magnet at the very front of the phone since even turning it back to back doesn't trigger it. Maybe others can try to experiment and reproduce the same result. For now I am just going to avoid magnets!
better to aviod bro , good job to find the solution yourself

Yea it has happened to me before as well I recollect. It was in my Mom's bag and when I took it out the screen was the same but it fixed itself after turning off the screen once.

Hi,
here my*"FIFTH HONOR 8" (see screen)
I had a problem with a bug overnight when the phone was sleeping, lol gotta wonder...
The morning it was locked on mode "smart cover" overnight (maybe humidity... like I give a F) never activated anything from smart assistance... thanks anyways.
As in the screenshot I...* did try a DIY fix late in the night %) (I mean that last fix after a week of softer tryout) . too bad having no warranty...

BTW pics taken with my 6th honorf
On another note you could try a factory reset via SD card or computer adb .. I couldn't personally. Computer smasher and "proprietary open source" didn't save the day but who care I can always repair my screen with fake yellow tint glass.
And another one .. screen surviving later on :
