USB-C adapter with USB-B, HDMI, and USB-C Charging. - Essential Phone Accessories

I found another reason to like the PH-1 better than my Pixel. It works with my USB-C to USB-C (for power) + HDMI + USB-A dongle (https://www.amazon.com/Inspira-Char...TF8&qid=1506302371&sr=1-1&keywords=B071778W5N). My son also tried his GameCube to USB converter and it worked too, as did charging on the dongle's USB-C port.
Oops. Meant to say USB-A, not USB-B.

Just to clarify, does this work for HDMI out?

This was a question asked on Amazon and here is the reply:
"Unfortunately, the hub doesn't support cellphone connection for HDMI output but can be charged or read USB flash drives. "

Awesome. I believe this finally confirms that the phone uses DP-Alt mode for its video output. That makes it the same as the SGS8, which should mean any adapter that works with that, should work with the PH-1. Thanks man!

That looks like Chrome was just mirroring the phone screen. Google Play Movies and TV plays the movie on the HDMI display and keeps the controls on the phone.

im lookin to see if the CHOETECH USB C to HDMI Adapter with Power Delivery Charging will also charge the phone and work

It was the choetech one.

Anyone here tried a usb c to ethernet adapter? Why would you even want that? Because hotel wifi sucks and #donglelife. The reviews for this sound good and one guy is using it with an s8.

Was it getting enough charge to go positive though? As opposed to charging, but going down because the power drain was more than the charge going to the phone.

Yes, it goes positive. The phone state of charge increased from 80% to 85% during 8 of streaming video to HDMI.

FYI: Used this to mount OTG Flash drive and copy Titanium Backups backup folder. Worked a treat, all while charging phone.

Using the same, except that I got the one with the legacy USB port in the back. Worked with the PH-1 and my Dell XPS-13. I even daisy chained 2 of them. BTW, charging works with PH-1 and laptop. Tried a 45W charger from Anker and a 65W from Incipio (when daisy chained)

Legacy port? Do you have a link?

Hooking up to DVI monitor?

One of the displays I need to connect with the Transformer only have dsub and dvi connections. Has anybody hooked up their tablet through an hdmi/dvi converter?
I have no hdmi cables to test out, and didn't want to spend the couple of bucks for a cable that I have no use for.
Good question. Bumping to get attention.

I haven't received mine yet, but I think a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable -> HDMI to DVI adapter -> DVI cable should work.
It works for me, at least, I'll just be leaving the DVI cable on my desk and taking the HDMI cable with me when I leave work.
I'll post my results when it arrives on monday.
Edit: May just be able to put the adapter on the monitor and skip the cable altogether.
Like I said, I'll post

I appreciate it guys.

It will work fine, since all the signals are digital. Yes it really is that simple.
Except that I haven't seen a single mention as to whether the TF is using HDCP for it's HDMI output. If that's the case then a DVI converter will not work.

I'm pretty sure HDCP has to do with the monitor/tab not the i/o. My Dell 2407WFP is HDCP, has no HDMI (DVI/VGA only) and my TF works with it.

.im facing that problem now with my computer monitor. I hooked up the pad by two seperated ways-first with a dvi2hdmi adapter connected to a simple dvi cable, didnt work.second try was with a special 5 meters dvi2hdmi cable.again.didn't work. I don't know what to do? I tried it with another dvi lcd and it just saying that the monitor went to sleep mode.
Important to say that mirroring to a TV LCD or plasma works great whitout any problem.
What's the dvi problem?
i tried this with a samsung monitor. using dvi-to-hdmi-to-minihdmi adapter. i don't know if it's just 1 adapter too many, but it doesn't seem to work.

Didn't work for me. The monitor just doesn't see the Transformer. Might be a dodgy adapter because the HDMI cable works fine.
Didn't work for me either with 3 different types of Dells at work. Just registered after lurking for weeks just to comment on this issue!
I can't post the URLs as a noob but the cable and converter are from Amazon.
I have newer Dells at home I can test with but that was not the point...

Any kind of hacks to get around whatever is preventing this from happening...??
same problem here. got a dvi > hdmi adapter, connected with a 1.8 meter mini hdmi > hdmi cable to a samsung monitor..
no screen image...
connecting direct to my tv (hdmi) works fine!
edit: read some stuff on the xoom forums about a 5 volt line that's missing in the mini hdmi out... and the need for a hdmi>vga convertor in some cases.. (expensive)
Strange thing is, i connected my popcorn 110 to the monitor and it works flawlessly .. both got hdmi 1.3a ..

yeah, you need a MHL adapter like bonesy posted
Hey thanks guys... I thought its a simple way...lol..
Why didn't they make mini hdmi like the one in Sony Eric phones... ?
Btw... I don't understand the USB power port in mhl adapter. do we need to plug in our USB power adapter charger in that mhl adapter? Its a power source necessary for this mhl?
I bought an MHL adapter off ebay.
I have found that I need to plug in the charger to the cable but that might just be because I am using the HDMI through an auto switcher that doesn't have it's own power (gets the power from HDMI input). I haven't tried with the HDMI straight into the TV.
I watched a film over HDMI last night and the quality was really good even though it wasn't even a HD movie.
Just get the cheapest one you can find on ebay... they all use the same standard (MHL).

HD doesn't really mean **** if you know what you are doing.
It's all about using high bitrates, low-artifact, low noise, etc when encoding videos. I'd rather have a 25Mbps 720p than a 10MBps 1080p.

Just read this:
The power cable must be connected to the adapter while using it to send video and audio through HDMI. Power charger is not included in packaging. The MHL adapter features an USB Micro-B (female) power input. Connect the charger supplied with your mobile device to the MHL adapter to power your mobile device while it is in use.

oN second thought, I believe it can also take power from a USB port. so If ur TV has a USB port then u can simply plugin the adapter with it to supply power and use HDMI cable to connect...

Correct!
Just tried with the side HDMI port on my TV which is next to the USB port and it worked.
Most TV's even cheap ones have a USB on them these days.
And yes... completely agree about the HD video comment. It was a very good DVD rip I had done with a decent bit rate.

MHL/HDMI support?

I just got the rogers verson of the skyrocket yesterday and was thinking of going to buy a MHL adapter so i can use the HDMI.
is there any HDMI/MHL support in the stock rogers rom?
also is there away around the bluetooth stack problem so i can use sixaxis or wiimote to control emulators? if not it looks like i gotta buy that phonejoy game controller.
dont see where there wouldn't be support in the stock rom. The more difficult thing is to find the adapter in canada.
MHL to HDMI is supported on all SGS2 phones
MHL adapter is working with my AT&T Skyrocket SGH-I727. Attached are a few pics and a link to a video I just made showing proof.
Should work with your Rogers version as well.

On my Skyrocket and my International SGS2, the phones will not output video unless I have the microUSB cable plugged into the MHL adapter.
The MHL Adapter plugs into the microUSB port on bottom of phone. The MHL Adapter has an input for a microUSB to charge/power the phone and an input for the HDMI cable to TV.

Good question Mike,
I've only "tested" the connection from phone to TV, I haven't watched a full movie/video.
As for conserving phone battery power, my phone will not output video via MHL unless I have the microUSB cable plugged into the MHL adapter.
I doubt it but i do not have an hd tv anymore. So would there be a way to use an mhl adapter and somehow convert to rca. And if we have to use an mhl adapter for video out im guessing a micro usb to rca would output nothing or just sound? Anyone?

Maybe using a HDMI to Composite converter would work
http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Composit...TF8&coliid=I16ARD8PBYT1ZI&colid=2X9SHCO024ETT
The MHL adapter has a microUSB cable that plugs into bottom of phone.
Then the MHL adapter has 2 other holes on it. a microUSB hole to charge/power the phone/adaptor. A HDMI output.
You might be able to use the HDMI to Composite converter I linked above for your purposes.
Hope that was a better description of the connections involved.

Stupid question: when I connect the phone to the TV using the adapter should it automatically show up on the TV or is there an app or setting I have to go through first?
I tried connecting it once and nothing happened.
i think you have to have power plugged in also at the same time. Then i read some posts about possibly needing to reboot the phone with everything plugged in.

The Galaxy S4 connectivity thread - MHL/USB OTG/BT/Gamepads and more!

Hi everyone,
Thought I would start a thread about what things people are using with their S4s.
A few findings of mine from today:
The Smart Dock works with the S4.
The S3/Note 2 MHL adapters definitely work
The S4 MHL 2.0 adapter works without needing a charging input plugged in and IS outputting at 60Hz
USB audio working, although some DACs not working that did work with S3/Note 2 (Apex Glacier not working for me, my HeadAmp Pico and RSA Intruder are)
USB keyboards/mice working with the S4, as they did with the older Samsungs
PS3 controller working over USB OTG (although mapping seems odd, have to try it in an emulator)
Ditto for the Xbox 360 for Microsoft controller (which required an app on older Samsungs in order to work)
Interesting, tried my Logitech F310 controller with it and it works too (it does not work with any other Android handset without USB/BT Joystick Centre, but here works OOTB). The F710 probably works too in that case.
BT keyboard and mouse working, as expected.
IR blaster via the inbuilt app works great with my LG TV.
Logitech F710 works too.
MHL and USB OTG do not work together using the new MHL 2.0 adapter for the S4.
NTFS formatted drives still don't work on stock ROMs. Shame since my Padfone Infinity has it OOTB.
Moga Pro gamepad working well
Tried an ethernet adapter yesterday evening: no-go. Need to check its documentation again because I suspect it requires driver installation. Have order a couple of driverless ethernet adapters that are confirmed to work with several Android tablets and will give them a go when they arrive.
Additional info on ethernet: can pretty much definitively say ethernet is not working I think. Tried today with a new adapter (that works perfectly on the Padfone Infinity in phone and pad modes, since I tried that first), does not work with S4 with or without an externally powered USB hub.
Will chime in with more when I have a chance to try more stuff out.
On the s4 MHL adapter: I find it amazing that the hdmi can carry plenty of juice to keep the s4 and the MHL adapter topped up on power. The knock off on sale at amazon still says to use external power.
Have you tried miracast yet?
BT Keyboard/mouse?
Hi, could someone please tell me if the Galaxy S4 and the new MHL 2.0 adapter allow HDMI and USB OTG at the same time using the micro usb port on the MHL 2.0 adapter? Very keen to know! Cheers!

As noted above, doesn't work. Only way to do that simultaneously is still the Smart Dock.
I have a couple of questions.
1) Does the smart dock outputs 60Hz or this is achievable only with the mhl 2.0 adapter?
2) Is 60Hz mode noticeably better?
3) Any slowdowns or delays, while mirroring the display?
Thanks in advance.

I need to spend more time with it to answer those, will definitely update soon.
Regarding slowdowns - found it pretty smooth, which was a relief because the Xperia Z lagged horribly over MHL.
UPDATE:
1) Does the smart dock outputs 60Hz or this is achievable only with the mhl 2.0 adapter? Only the MHL 2.0 adapter can do 60Hz.
2) Is 60Hz mode noticeably better? Yes, compared them directly today, found scrolling webpages and so forth noticeably smoother on MHL 2.0.
Used a Moga Pro controller with my S4 to play some GTA while mirroring over MHL 2.0, nice! Still playing around with the Moga, but enjoying so far.

this is a good idea but look around on some of these other threads. Anyway I bought this usb-c to 3.5mm cord (to plug into a car stereo port) and yes it works https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076BKRX1N/
The Google pixel USB to 3.5mm adapter works

Yep, but as you said, "the other threadS". My plans are to have one single thread for everything
Samsung HDMI Adapter
The Samsung HDMI Adapter, USB Type-C to HDMI, works perfectly with my Essential PH-1
Care to elaborate why all other Choetech hdmi products won't/don't work? "Confirmed by email" is not very helpful.
The travel inspira hubs listed do not work for HDMI out, at least not with Oreo beta 2.

I emailed them asking why the adapters I bought weren't working on my Essential, and they told me that the phone isn't supported and they also don't have any adapters that support the device. I don't know why though, they didn't/couldn't give me an explanation. The email is in a pretty bad German, so you probably won't understand it, but I'll attach it anyway for reference. Sorry for the vagueness, should have made that clear at the beginning.

That kinda sucks, I just ordered one as a replacement for my Choetech one... Will report back tomorrow when I receive it.
EDIT: Works perfectly fine for me, Oreo beta 2.

I have another Samsung adapter that works fine, too. So, Samsung seems to be a safe bet.

I just got one and it's not working. Not sure if it's because I'm on the beta or magisk is breaking it or what.

Just received the travel inspira one, works perfectly fine for me, including charging and audio, on Oreo beta 2. Updated the OP.

I got this one, but based off of another user indicating it woks, but that was on 7.1, not 8.0. I recently saw in another (or this) thread someone bought another adapter that someone said worked, but wasn't working for them on the beta. Makes me wonder if it's broken on the beta...
Mine definitely works with the beta, too.
The LeEco usb c earphones also works
I think I determined why this may not be working for some, your TV or monitor. The travel inspira hub will not work on any of my samsung TV's, in the MHL port or otherwise.
However, it does work on my Samsung S27E330 monitor. This leads me to believe that the TVs do not have the most recent version of MHL, and thus will not work. This is kind of a bummer because I intended to use this on my TV in the living room, but at least I can confirm the device does work with Beta 2. I have not returned the legacy adapter, so I will test using that as well and report back.

Interesting observation. I tested the adapter successfully on the HDMI 1/MHL port (didn't check the other ones) of our Samsung Smart TV from the C series, which is from 2010 I believe..
But I also think the issues that some people mentioned with normally working adapters are issues with the display device itself.

Samsung EE-HG950 works with my phone (Nougat, Dec 5 '17 update.) Can you verify you're using the same adapter & that it fails on Oreo?

Yeah, that's one I have. It doesn't do anything on 3 of my TVs or 1 pc monitor on Oreo beta 2.
