My Moto Droid A855 has a dead screen, but I can see it on my desktop IF I can get USB Debugging mode enabled, in which its off at the moment.
My screen is DEAD, nothing can be seen, but the touch screen works. *I was able to unlock the phone*
I flashed stock 2.2 back onto my phone but now debugging mode is off, and my screen is dead, so I dont know how to re-enable it.
Does anyone know how to enable it without a screen?
come on! any replies ? my phone is dead too! i accidentally uninstalled launcherpro which replaced my LGHOME and now stuck at android booting screen with debugging mode off!
I was hoping there was a way to enable USB Debugging with a dead screen myself.....after a bad Rom flash I lost my touchscreen functionality.....Bad move when I Hard reset and found that I am stuck on the "Touch Android" screen to activate... with no conceivable way to "touch Android..."
You can use ADB while inside the recovery. Why are you trying to turn on debugging if I may ask?
Find someone with the same phone. Pull the battery on yours and reboot the other one. Power yours up. Now that both phones are on, navigate the good phone to where the setting is to debug. The same time you're doing that, do the same screen presses on the one with the bad screen. Only problem is you said you flashed stock back on. It's going to want to activate the phone and set up Gmail info. Good luck!
Hello everyone,
So my screen cracked and my lcd slowly started dying and is now completely black. Touch still works as i am able too unlock the screen and i can hear random noises. Is there any way to retrieve the files of the phone? I can plug it in and the computer recognizes the phone, I just cant mount the SD card. I have all my lecture recordings for school on there! Please help.
if someone could show me with pictures or video how to enable the mass storage so i can enable it blind, that could work too.

If you can't mount then you need debugging on to use adb to pull the files.

Hmm don't think it can. You could try and see if adb is working in the Bootloader.

If you trust the 'Power of the Force' lol than just turn off phone completley than hold 'Power & Volume Down' and you should be on 'Fastboot' so just use the 'Volume Down' key and I am 98% sure it is the first option with the click of one down, not sure if this is helpful or just blah blah blah but (maybe) sorry?
While plugged in I held the power button and the soft keys on the bottom blinked 15 times and it went off. then i held "power and vol down" and nothing happened. Then phone vibrated and then the tmobile jingle sound. dont think im doing it right?
If the device boots and the touchscreen works, you can enable usb debugging blind:
- Unlock the device: Swipe up from the bottom
- Notifications: Swipe down from the top
- Settings: Tap on the far right side, between 0.5 and 1.5 cm from the top. (Directly underneath the status bar)
- Developer options: It's the 2nd option from the bottom, so first swipe up a few times to get to the bottom of the menu, then tap between 1 and 2 cm from the bottom.
- USB Debugging: It's the first option from the top, underneath the status bar and the menu title. Tap between 1.5 and 2.5 cm from the top.
- Now you have to confirm a dialog. The OK button is on the right side, about 4 cm from the bottom (or 2 cm below the center).
adb should work in bootloader even with debugging off. It did for me.
To make your life easier when you get it connected through adb, you can use my quick adb tool to get a visual interface of your device.
That way you dont have to mess with adb commands in a command prompt window
SUCCESS!!! in the midst of randomly pressing parts of the screen, I somehow turned USB mass storage on and was able to transfer all my files! lol I dont think I ever got debugging on though..
Thank you to all that helped. I got my lectures! just in time too, Big exam tomorrow!
Thanks again!
Guys,
In short, i need to enable usb debugging without screen (work in blind touch).
pls capture 4 screenshots of atrix 2 JB 4.1.2 leaked for:
1. dropped top bar (where the setting icon)
2. Where the developer setting is (scroll to bottom end)
3. position where is usb debugging (if possible, without scroll)
4. any message if usb debugging is enable
Long version:
My Atrix2 dropped from 1 meter and the screen cracked.
The screen is not showing anything now except some vertical lines.
i can see it shows some touches dot (i always enable show touches).
i managed to patterned unlock it and enabled tethering to get online after numerous of tries.
i need to access some info from the phone and all i need is to enable usb debugging to get some apps to work.
i dont have HDMI cable to connect it to TV.
i opt for not to restart it in fastboot to flash some ADB setting (if i failed, i may not get tethering to work again)
so, could some one pls help me with above 4 screenshots?
regards
Lesson learn: Always enable this setting
finally got this worked
Hi,
An update.
i managed to enable usb debugging by capturing some screenshots (press and hold power+volume down key).
i have photos sync to facebook enabled. Thus, i can see these images.
i resized these images at monitor and guessed where should i touch.
using following app, i can see the screen again.

thanks for those who tried to help.
i'm lucky, isn't it?
I flashed the Android P preview 1 yesterday, locked bootloader and I was a happy man.
Today I thought I'll get back to Oreo and now I cant enable "OEM Unlocking" inside Developer Options. The toggle button is always show disabled. When I enable it, it asks for my screen unlock pattern, I give it that and when it comes back to the settings screen, the toggle is set to disabled again.
Any ideas? I really don't wish to be stuck in this version of Android till I buy a new phone
EDIT: I fixed it. I just did a factory reset and I was able to enable OEM Unlocking when I hadn't setup a pattern screen unlock.

I see you fixed it, but I would never recommend keeping your bootloader locked. Just keep it unlocked in case an issue with software happens it is easily fixable

I tried to use Action Launcer on my One Vision, it started doing EXACTLY that (restart after unlock).
The only way I could solve it was entering in recovery and wiping it clean. Here's how to do it:
1. Turn it off (hold Power Button for a few seconds)
2. Hold Power Button + Volume Down for some seconds
3. When you enter fastboot mode (with the android robot on screen), release the buttons
4. Use Volume Down to choose Recovery Mode and press Power Button to enter it
5. It will show the Android Robot with "No Command" on screen, when you get on this screen, hold the Power Button and press Volume Up then release the buttons, you will get into Recovery Mode screen
6. At Recovery Mode, choose Wipe data/Factory Reset and confirm when asked.
This worked on mine.
(link to procedure: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/motorola/motorola-one-vision/recovery-mode/)
It will wipe your phone clean. If after that it don't work right, you better get your phone to warranty.
Same thing happened to me after changing default USB behaviour in developer settings.
Once I set it to file transfer, my phone rebooted as soon as I put the USB cable in.
It went to a bootloop a couple of times before it booted up to lock screen, but it rebooted again once I entered my lock pattern.
Only way to solve it was to factory reset
Moto is aware of the problem and working on it afaik.
Hopefully it will be fixed with the next update.

I was wrong... It tried with other launchers, same problema. I've read that some phones with problem in the fingerprint sensor have this behaivor. As soon as you add fingerprint as the unlock option, It may reboot randomly or when you try to unlock.
I've wiped It again and confirmed this behavior on mine. I'm going after warranty on monday.

I've made new tests on my Motorola One Vision... That's the problem. As soon as you set the default USB mode to file transfer, my phone starts to reboot even without plugging in the USB cable...
I've wiped it clean, started with the bare minimum, just logged on Google Play Store. I activated the default USB mode to "File Transfer" on the Dev Options.... With no lock option, it works OK. As soon as you set ANY locking method (pin, pattern, fingerprint) it reboots when you try to unlock the phone...
Seems like the only way to solve it is to keep the default USB mode unchaged.

Yes. For now we have to change usb mode from the notification panel each time, untill they got it fixed.

You disabled only fingerprint? Are you using any other unlock method, or just swipe? Mine got into bootloop even if I add a pattern.
when device restart swipe down status bar press setings then unlock and remove fingerprint
After you have changed the default USB mode to "transfer" on the Developer Options, you cant do that. If you have any sort of lock in place that's different from "swipe to unlock", your phone will reboot on any try to unlock it, even if you try to get to settings (it will ask to unlock, then when you try, it reboots).
If you get into the "bootloop", the only way to get out of it is to enter recovery and wipe the phone. The only way to avoid the bootloop is to a) don't change default USB mode to "transfer" on Developer Option or b) only have "swipe to unlock" as the lock option.
If you set a) and anything different then b), you get stuck in bootloop.
I was sad because I'd need to make a hard reset on my phone after this bootloop but then I tried to start it connected in my PC through USB and then BAM it worked out, boots without restarting, it worked out for me, it should for yours too!
Just wanted to confirm, for all those falling foul of this little bug, that Riverm4n's previous advice does indeed work. And saves the heartache of a full system reset..
Just wanted to clarify the guidance a little..
So with the phone on, and on the lockscreen, plug into your PC.
Let Windows do it's driver install thing of it's the first time it's been plugged in..
Then type in your unlock code on the phone..
Potentially could still go into the reboot again, just leave it plugged into your PC and the next time the phone comes on typing your unlock code in should see it unlock without rebooting!!
Don't forget to disable the developer settings or change the usb thing back!!!

Yeah the problem is because is enable fingerprint and default USB configuration was changed.
Just like to thank OP for this - just received a new Vision - & while setting up I had enabled Developer mode mainly due to problem with PC not seeing phone & 1 tip I read was for 'USB Debugging' to be switched on
- while in that menu I decided to force USB file transfer over 'cos of the annoyance having to select it each time I plugged phone in to transfer some pics/doc etc over
Next time I picked up phone it was in boot-loop & I thought it was broken ... PANIC STATIONS !!!!
Factory reset fixed it
- & since being new phone I didn't lose too much of the stuff I had been reinstalling/replacing (which were mainly apps to replace missing 'functions' I had on old phone such as a 'repeat notification/flash camera LED' if unread)
Did lose some game progress on a couple of games I have/had, which is annoying (wish we had a APK Data backup that didn't need root & which isn't Helium since that seems pretty unstable for me atm but then again it's not been updated for a while) but I think I can live with that
Once again thanks
Well, happened to me. I certainly wanted to avoid factory reset. It's a known bug being reviewed by Motorola/Lenovo. Happens when you change the USB connection default action in developer mode and you have any sort of screen lock.
Here is what I did to avoid factory reset, I had fingerprint lock with code.
1. After boot you get to screen lock. I you try to unlock with the code it reboots.
2. In that code enter screen, use a finger not enrolled. You'll see a message that fingerprint was not recognized.
3. Enter now your code and the device won't reset this time.
4. Go to developer options and rollback the USB default action to "no data transfer".
or
1. Factory reset
or
1. Wait for a ROM update
or
1. Return the device to seller and get another one
Avoiding factory reset!
