Moving Picture function - what is it? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hi,
My Mate-9 just updated itself OTA to build B188 and now offers a Moving Picture option on the camera.
Can someone explain or point to link on its use please? When I take photo I get a very short movie clip on playback but no way to select a moment in time in that clip using the edit or playback feature unless I am misunderstanding its usage?
Appreciate any help guys.

just like the feature of apple photo. you cannot take it as video.

We have it since B194.
If you have enabled the moments feature it will capture moving contents. Hold button and release when something happens.
Then you will notice that it started recording a short moment before you released. This compensates your reactiontime.
It is up to 2-3 seconds. In gallery app you can tap picture to get it moving.
In gallery there is a new tab for 'highlights'.
This composes the pictures of one place or the last 24 hours to a movie. There You'll have the best efford of ' moments'.
You can tap to edit an even tap on one picture now called highlight in the editor and cut like you want. The appname for this is quik.
A really great feature.

Thanks for feedback, I think in different parts of world the build numbers differ, like I say mine just updated to B188 yesterday and it now includes 'moving picture' option on camera.
With regards the 'moments feature' you mention, how do I find that to enable it please? Or is the same thing as moving picture, and perhaps named differently on my build?

I described 'moments'. Maybe it's the same on your version.
I have a icon in the camera app on the left side. Similar like a sun to activate it.
If your function records short videos, it's the same, or a pre release of 'moments'
Do you have a changelog of your version?

The updated quik app in playstore can edit the moments. It shows them as a chain of pictures

Thanks for your help. This is probably what I was wondering about. How do I view / edit the moving picture to grab an instant in time or is that not the point of moving picture and a moving picture should just be viewed moving as seems to be case in Huawei gallery? I'd have thought moving picture was useful to grab an instant when the action is fast?
With regards Quik, there doesn't seem to be an equivalent Huawei app to do this? Also with Quik it appears to be only accessible on internet from Playstore to open each usage and never is saved as an app link on my Mate9 - why is that? If I select in Playstore the store gives me option to uninstall or open which implies to me its already installed, but I cannot find the link to app on my device anywhere?
Sorry, I'm quite new at this moving picture idea so apologies if questions seem a bit silly!

Hi, my mate 9 dual sim is on c432b194, but i dont have tab highlights in gallery..
Also, quik app is hidden.
Any solution?
Tnx

Me neather dont have higlights in gallery, and quik app is hiden

you can add quik on third party launchers as icon.
Or use QuickShortcut Maker app to create an icon for Quik.
In gallery select 1 or more pictures. Then click "share" and select Quik.
This creates a short video wich you can save this and so send one "moments" picture as a normal short video.
Galery should create videos automatically by grouping one day or one location.
But I didn't find to setup this somewhere

How do you edit these moving pictures (with Quik I can't seem to be able to select the frame I want) ?
Also what file format this might be? On my storage there's only JPGs (but a moving picture has sound and frames) ?

Nice twist on a normally boring app. Any plans to bring in a share button. Then it could go a long way to replacing some of the other apps I use daily.
And what ads? I have not seen one ad.

Hello again, and thank you for your comments.
First, regarding the ad-free version: there will be a payed version without ads, at a small price (1.5$). The bad news is it will not be available in Google's Play Store (due to Google not allowing payed apps from many countries). It will be available in Amazon app store and/or SlideMe

There is already a way to share a picture: the "Send image" menu item (top menu in fullscreen view mode, context menu in list view mode).
But I agree that maybe a separate action, just like in your screenshot may be a better option. In the next update it will be there.
Thanks.

Version 1.02 is up on Google Play.
Among a few other things, there's now a "Share" action right next to the top back button.
Other changes:
- album list loads faster
- now you can double tap on the image in 3D view mode to view it full
- fixed bug causing "force close" on album load on some devices

FAQ
No Capture Method is available for my device!
This is normal if your device isn't rooted. It's the way how the Android security model works, it just doesn't allow taking a screenshot. However, you can enable screenshot functionality on your device by enabling it through a computer (this is a small flaw in Android which can be used for this). It's really simple, you will need to download a file on your computer, connect your device and run the file to enable screenshot functionality. To see how you can do this go to Screenshot Ultimate > Settings > Capture methods > No capture method help. You can email the manual to yourself so you can complete it on your computer (Windows, Linux or OSX).
I don't understand how to...
Just post your question (or comment) here and I'll try to respond asap (or someone else will).
Feedback
All feedback is welcome, so please let me know what you think of the app! Since the app is released on Play you can, if you want, post about it wherever you like!

That's weird, what device do you have? And what Android version?
And could you maybe post the distorted screenshot? And did you have root?
If you had root some screenshot method should work.
Other people who tried have a different experience?

Just tested your app on my rooted N7000 running ICS 4.0.4. I tried 5 trigger methods: overlay icon, shake, service icon click, audio, power connects and everything works fine , but it always captures Superuser notification so I have to disable notification in Superuser.

You can solve that in two ways.
- As you mention yourself, disable superuser notification
- OR, you can change the capture method. First, you can run the auto detect method for detecting the available capture methods and see which ones have the superuser notification on top.
But if you take one screenshot with "Root 3" after that you can pick "No Root 3" and no superuser is required. Root 3 start a small temporary service running with root permissions which can take screenshots.
Let me know whether that works.
Did other people try it as well? Feedback is really welcome!

Well, that should not happen, I thought the app was designed to be used intuitive. Could you explain a bit more on what you are confused about?
Here some explanations:
- When you take a screenshot it will get saved default to /mnt/sdcard/screenshotultimate/ (can be changed on settings page) and a window will show where you can edit, share or preview the taken screenshot.
- When you open the app you can press the menu button on the start screen (or go to settings > trigger methods) to enable/disable trigger methods. A trigger method will give you the possibility to take a screenshot on different triggers.
Let me know what's unclear so I can try to help you or maybe make the app easier to use (that's what feedback is for).
So does anyone else use the app or has an opinion on it? The more feedback I get the easier I can make the app Thanks!

Why does the camera roll show ALL images (Camera, WhatsApp, Screenshots etc.)?

Hey guys,
Since a couple of days I've start to notice this little 'problem' on my Samsung Galaxy S7 (Android 7.0). For some reason the camera roll is showing ALL my images (and videos) instead of just the pictures that I have taken with my phone. So, WhatsApp images/videos, screenshots, downloaded images, it's all there.
Now, I've read alot about the .nomedia 'solution' to hide/excluse certain albums from showing up in the Gallery, but I don't want that. I like my WhatsApp images/videos etc. being shown in the Gallery application, I just don't want to see them in/on my camera roll.
So, the Gallery application is working just fine, and everything is stored in (pre-located) albums ('Camera', 'Screenshots', 'Twitter' etc.). I've looked at the settings in the Gallery app, but couldn't find anything relevant that would likely be causing this problem. Same goes for the Camera application.
What can be relevant is that I am storing the pictures taken by the Camera on a SD-card.
So, I was wondering if someone could help me. Is this problem related to Nougat? My phone isn't rooted, by the way.
Many thanks in advance! ?
Same problem here... Really annoying
What do you mean by "Camera Roll"?
If you open the "Album" section of the gallery, are you saying ALL images are showing up in the "Camera" album folder? Rather than their individual folders?
Obviously if you choose the "Pictures" tab, it will show all images on the device on the same screen
The "Albums" tab should be showing them in individual folders though

With "Camera Roll" I mean the pictures that can be accessed through the Camera App - when you open the Camera App it's the circular icon placed on the bottom right of the screen (right next to the shutter/camera button).
Same problem here. When I try to look photos from camera app, it shows all photos, not just camera roll like it should

The camera roll accessed from the camera app just opens the "Pictures" tab of the gallery app, which contains every image on the phone that does not contain a .nomedia file in it's folder
Samsung would have to patch the camera app to open just the "Camera" album folder I assume
But generally you would only use that button in the camera app to view the last few shots you just took, if you want to view a specific folder, open the gallery Albums tab

Thanks for all the help and responses, guys! I guess I'll just have to get used to it. Maybe Samsung will patch this in the future. Who knows.
That's a pretty dumb reply, to be honest. It's a camera app. Why would you want to review every downloaded or received image through the camera app? Sure, why don't I just jump off a bridge if I don't like it? It's a ****ty function and I can't blame people for asking if there's a fix. You can keep your "eat it or die" answers to yourself if you don't fancy being helpful.
I guess the question is:
why is the gallery opened when one opens the camera in whatsapp seeing that line of pictures is very irritating.(S5 mini)
Any solution?
This is killing me. Such a silly system by Samsung.

If you don't want your WhatsApp (or any other App for that matter) images to be shown between the rest of your Gallery images, you have to install and use a File Manager, navigate to the WhatsApp images folder and 'hide' this folder. Normally you can also hide a folder by creating a new file in that folder named ' .nomedia' like noted by Detection. The WhatsApp images folder is normally located at: 'Internal Storage' (or sdcard) > 'WhatsApp' > 'Media' > 'WhatsApp Images'. This way the gallery won't show your WhatsApp images anymore but WhatsApp will still show his own images. I hope I am correct with this info and this helps some of you.
Hi guys,
I asked to add this option (open last media in camera folder when gallery is called from camera app) in this camera mod app. Maybe you could increase the importance/priority of the request showing your interest on this feature in the mod post.
I'm trying the @martin.delbi method: should be a good workaround, but you should do it for all the folders with media you have in your storage/sd without .nomedia file that you do not want to show in Gallery.
I've tried this solution and realized it's not what I actually want since other apps don't even see those folders too. How do I undo it? I've deleted the .nomedia files I created and I still can't see the album. Thanks
unable to view watsapp status in myfile folder in samsung j7 max.

I totally agree. It's ridiculous that every photo or media file is right there after you take a picture, if you downloaded something or if someone sent you something in a text or you have something risque in a totally different directory on an SD card and it's dated just before that photo, BOOM! It's right there for your mom to see next to the family pics.
Can you change the default viewer that gets activated from the camera app?
Is there another camera app that does not have this problem?
The "camera roll" or the the icon from the camera app should ONLY show recent pictures in the DCIM/camera directory. PERIOD.
---------- Post added at 01:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 PM ----------
You can go into Gallery, go to Albums Tab, touch the three dots, there's a Hide or Unhide Albums. You can hide most albums, except for a few including Camera, Screenshots, Downloads, and Pictures (at least on my phone). The newest picture still seems to come up in the camera circle preview pane, and shows up for a second when you click the gallery circle from the camera app, but if it's in a hidden directory disappears. If you latest media file is in the camera directory, you don't have this problem.

I'm very happy with my Z Fold 2 but ine thing annoys me: whenever I send my friends a snap they either complain for the picture being sized as a square or that something on both sides is missing, e.g. some text I've written on the pic... Any ideas/recommendations how to fix that?
I've linked 3 pictures below. First is taken with the Fold being Open (7,6" Mode), second has been taken with the Fold being closed and the third is how the picture should be (taken by my S20Ultra 5G).
Thank you for any help in advance!

Hi! I am happy to say I've found a fix for this.
You have to download an app called GoodLock from the Galaxy App Store (not available in the Google Play Store unfortunately) and then after install, go to MultiStar, download and install inside the GoodLock app, then once installed tap the first menu option (I <3 Galaxy Foldable - screenshots attached) and then "Set aspect ratio for each app" and scroll til you reach Snapchat and select 18.5:9 to have your Snapchat finally take photos like everyone else's phone and not cut off the images.
Note that this will only work in unfolded mode when taking photos with Snapchat - it won't resize on the front cover screen.
Greetings from Australia - hope it fixes your issue!
Thank u very much. Gonna try this one later and then I'll let u know
Edit: everything worked like a charm, thank u so much!
