Nexus 5 Display not working. Don't know what to replace. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I was trying to replace my Nexus 5s camera and I disassembled the main motherboard. Replaced my camera and everything but after I reassembled the phone, I found out that there's no display. The LEDs work fine, because I see them light up and I see that the screen is black but it's a bright black and the screen is on. So after tampering with it, I found that the little USB charger port wire board wire thst connects just above the battery (idk how to describe it, its the orange strip that locks the battery in place) had a direct correlation with the display. If I unplugged it, the screen would go dark and off. If I replugged it, it would be on again. After doing this a few times, I actually got my phone's display to show for a little while before it went away to black again. So will buying a new orange strip part work or would I have to go to the bottom where the little screen digitizer is? I'm sorry if the problem is unclear because I really don't know how to say it or explain any better. Please help.

Replacing that strip is actually not easy.
With the device open, try to apply a little bit of force on the plug of the orange strip, there are mentions of the contacts stop working after upluging/pluging back.
You probably could buy a front frame (glass, touch, lcd and chassis) from ali cheap.

[Q] Problem with Screen?

I've got a transformer, and the screen doesn't appear to be working. My boyfriend bought it the first day it came out, dropped it, was able to play with it a bit. The battery died and he set it to charge, and after that the screen wouldn't work. The screen itself is fine, it just isn't displaying anything (He can't take it back for a warranty repair, because he threw out the receipt, that's why he threw it to me to look at).
When you plug it into a computer, the computer recognizes it and you can browse the files on it. When you use the hdmi cable to plug it into the tv you can see the screen of the tablet on the tv and you can use it, so it's not anything wrong with inside workings of the tablet itself. I took it apart and everything looked alright on the inside to me, nothing rattling around, and all the connections appeared to be connected tightly. I was able to see the slide to unlock symbol on the screen by shining a flash light directly on it while the unit was on, but it was really faint and hard to see.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? In a normal laptop I would say it's the inverter, but I'm not really sure if tablets use technology like that. I'm a bit at a loss here for what the problem could be and how to fix it.
Pretty close i would say its the digitizer though you will need to rma it to get it fixed
Screens break in many different ways, just because there is no crack or leaking LCD look to it doesn't mean its fine
I would place my bets on the screen being damaged, although the board could have cracked or a solder joint could have come lose or a tiny tear in the ribbon cable
Screen is the most fragile though
I had the same problem, and after opening the TF everything looked fine too. It was not. What I did was to unplug all the cables and plug them all again. Problem solved.
Probably the screen cable got a little loose after the drop.
Good luck.

[Q] Screen VERY Dark After Accident But NOT Black - Phone Still Usable - Need Help

Hey guys,
I have a Droid Incredible 2 that I dropped in a cup of water for a small amount of time. I let it dry, and when I turned it on the screen was very dark. There was still an image, but it was almost impossible to see. The phone still works, it will text and call, but it is almost impossible to see things.
So, I replaced the screen with a new unit, confidant that it was the problem. But, of course, that did not fix it. I am out of ideas, so I am hoping someone here can chime in! (My question is what else could be the cause?)
Thanks for any help!
If your phone is in uder warranty replace it
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda app-developers app
Did you replace the actual LCD screen or just the touch panel (piece of glass on the front of the phone)?
If you did replace the LCD that sounds like the backlight isn't turning on. This could be for a variety of reasons, but probably something that powers the backlight on the phone's circuit board got damaged by the water since the light itself should be part of the screen assembly. You could try removing the battery and leaving it in a bag of dry rice or those dessicant packets (things that say "Silica Gel - Do Not Eat") that come in shoes, electronics, etc. for a few days and see if maybe it's just some more water that needs to dry out, but if that doesn't help you're probably looking at a circuit board replacement or buying a new phone like andromaki suggested. It also wouldn't hurt to take the phone apart again and check to make sure you plugged in all the cables that come out of the screen and none are upside down/not in the connector all the way.
* Yes, I'm specifying dry rice for a reason. I once advised someone to stick a phone that got dropped in the sink into a container with some rice, and they put it in some leftover fried rice from Chinese take out, which did not help matters.
I agree with lroop. "Very dark" sounds like the backlight or backlight inverter (power supply) might be bad. I would assume that the backlight and inverter would all be built into the display, but that may not be the case. If the inverter is separate from the LCD and it has gone bad then switching the display would not fix the problem.

HELP!

Okay so yesterday I came back upstairs from doing some stuff downstairs. i pulled my phone out of my pocket and bam, there's a white screen with colored lines all over my screen vertically. Almost like if you would take the screen and stretch it as much as you could. You can t see anything. So i decide to see if the touchscreen still works and well, it does! I can even receive phone calls.
The phone is rooted, and has a cracked but functional digitizer, no water damage nothing. I have tried turning it off and on, and well in order to take the battery out i would need to open it, which i only want to do if i need to replace the LCD.
So my question is, Is it the LCD that needs to be replaced, or could it be the hardware. Any fixes guys?
(first time on XDA, can't wait to join the community!!)
At&t Htc one mini
(The screen has previous cracks, but this problem occurred way after those were made)
I think that the LCD Panel is damaged, it is not the hardware since your touch screen is working and colours can be visible on the screen. So just change the LCD Panel:thumbup:

Problem with Display-exchange

Hello,
First of all i dont know if this is the right forum for my question. If not so please notice me.
After my Z5 dropped on the floor i got an broken Display. I bought a new Display and changed it, but i think i broke the LCD-Flexcable after i pulled carefully on it to get it inside the case. The effect is after phone turn on i get only the backlight but the screen remains black. So for a test i switched my old broken display in it but the effect is the same, only backlight and black screen. After a few seconds the phone led blinks 3 times red and the phone restarts. What the heck is now? Anybody get the same case? I handled the mainboard with care, dont remember to damaged the connector in anyway. Does the Flexcable needs to be protected with a tape so it couldnt be grounded on someway?
Sorry for my bad english. Thanks for any help!
After a second and a third display swap the error is still the same. It seems somehow i damaged the motherboard. I swapped the phone against a new one.
Please help, same problem ...

Grey Static/Snow on LCD

Hi,
I have a clients phone, They dropped it into water. Phone LCD worked fine, touch screen did not function correctly, and the bottom soft buttons were activating. making the phone unusable.
I orded a new screen, and decided to test it, before installing it. After removing the mid frame, I plugged in the LCD to find a strange grey snow pattern. I disconnected the battery, reseated and checked the LCD cable. I got the same pattern,
I was positive the new LCD is faulty, but not 100% sure now.
I reconnected the old screen and have a similar but not identical pattern. I can understand breaking the old LCD while taking it apart, or getting a faulty new LCD, just unlikely for both to happen.
Are there any other connections I should check. What do you guys think?
