Estimated battery capacity 2300, design capacity 3000 - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

AccuBattery stats indicate that my estimated battery capacity is 2300 and my phone has lost over time around 22% of batery life. I do get poor SoT, around 3 hours. Do you guys believe battery needs calibration or should I consider replacing it with a brand new one? Thank you in advance.

Since how many time did you get your h8 and how much do you use it per day ?
2300mah sounds very low, if you are not a power user maybe Accu Battery is not really reliable.
Check if you don't have any drain problem and maybe after this you can think about change your battery.

I'm definitely not a Power user, I use my device for simple ordinary tasks. In update b381 the device was constantly overheating without excessive use, so I strongly believe that the battery could have been damaged back then. The overheating issue was fixed by updating in b389.

Maybe you can consider this option then.
Ask more people and maybe try some guides to improve your SOT, i'm not a battery expert haha
You should have at least 4h SOT with light use ( of course Battery duration != SOT, if you got 2days of use with 3hSOT this is good )

[Q] Disappointed with the battery life... :(

Hi folks - this is the first thread I have started, hence requesting the non-noobs to go easy on me... (this forum is a scary-kind-of-cool)
I mustered up the courage to install Infused 1.5.0 on my stock... the instructions were superb and everything went great... really enjoying the improved speed and looks. But my battery life has degraded. It has been more than a week since I flashed my phone - and it is only getting worse. Now I have read a lot about how Infused is getting great battery life for some folks... and i have gone through those threads, trying to figure out what I am doing wrong. This is my typical usage profile
1) I put the phone on charging before I go to sleep... when I wake up (around 7 AM) it is fully charged.
2) I quickly check overnight messages, finish the daily ablutions, and 30 min later when I check the phone it is already at 95%.
3) By 10 AM, I have made a few long phone calls (no bluetooth) (totalling 60-90 minutes) - and the battery is down to 75%
4) At work I use a bluetooth A2DP headset - maybe 30-40 min of calls and by 12 I am at 50%.
5) More calls in the afternoon, intermitted mail checking and sometimes 30-40 minutes of music streaming on my bluetooth headset - and by 6 PM my phone is down to critical level 12-15%.
This is in now way the same experience that others are having with the Infused ROM and with the Infuse phone in general.
Other points:
6) I run Juice Defender... (don't know if it helps)
7) My screen brightness is just a few notches over 0%
8) My data is always on - except when I am using Wifi of course
9) I turn bluetooth off when I am not using it
So that's the story guys... and I would eternally grateful if the awesome folks out here can help me figure out what I am doing wrong... or there is some logic behind the sad battery life of what is otherwise the best phone that I have ever owned.
It depends how long Infused has been running on your system. After about 3 days I noticed my phone was adjusting to the ROM and the battery life improved significantly. Aside from that, try this trick. Drain your battery next to nothing and then charge all the way. Do this a couple of times. Not quite sure about the logistics but it seems to work. Another thing that has improved my battery life is to make sure I don't have background apps running. You can check this by going into apps > manage apps > and then running. Sometimes Media Hub will begin a background process and that eats up a whopping 8 MBs alone. Force close these pointless background apps and you should see an improvement there as well.
have you conditioned the battery and reset battery stats?

Thanks popesmasseuse (you really aren't are you?)... the ROM has been running now for a week... gets worse rather than better. I do typically wait for my battery to drain completely before I charge it... but when I do have to do it at 7 PM - then I can never charge it fully, before I have to start using it again. I wonder if the fact that my phone goes through "micro charges" is a reason for my declining battery life...
Will check the running apps... and see if closing them improves things... thanks!
Fact: Installing a ROM greatly improves battery life... Try it....
Turn of GPS and Bluetooth when not in use.

Phone calls are a pretty heavy battery drain. Sounds like you're in call for hours each day. Most people don't talk on the phone more than a few minutes a day. Poor signal will also significantly reduce your battery life... how many bars you usually have at work?
My battery life got better the longer I had the infused ROM. But personally I only talk on the phone maybe a total of an hour each day, but I am constantly using internet and youtube, and if I have spare time I'm using my Kindle app to read some books. I keep my GPS, sync, and wifi on all day long and my brightness all the way up (I just can't stand a dim screen lol) and by the time I got home today my battery was at 40%, which I am perfectly fine with.

Ah...the man himself.
Yes I talk a lot on the phone - nature of the job. 3 hours minimum in a day. Signal at home is terrible - 15% strength... that could be the reason why the battery runs dry after the morning routine. Any way to offset that?
At work signal is great. But in office I also tend to use my desk phone more...

Never use task killers.
For me, battery life on phones gets good after about 2 weeks or so.
With light to medium use I can easily go for 2+ days.
Consider not streaming music through Bluetooth. Also don't auto sync stuff every 15 mins. If you can use Gmail they use Push notification. I'm on my phone all day literally and I make it home with some battery left. BTW connect to a Wi-Fi when ever possible, 3g data streaming will kill your battery quick.

Keiht's tutorial is effectively a technique called "bump charging" for putting that last extra percent or two of charge into a battery. However - with Li-Ion batteries, charging like this will SEVERELY reduce their charge cycle lifetime.
The only thing that "calibration" should affect is how your device reports battery charge level, NOT actual power usage. You should get the same total battery life whether your device is "calibrated" or not, with the exception possibly of the device shutting off prematurely because it thinks the battery is lower than it really is.

I would have to agree with you. I followed his directions as i was having horrible battery issues after going to 1.5.0 and it seems to have helped the reporting as far as I can tell. I think the big problem and it is only a guess is how the phone is reporting the battery condition not actual battery left. In any event I am running JD and the longer I run with 1.5.0 the battery seems to be lasting a lot longer but I have ti disable most everything which hobbles the phones best features to get that battery life still searching for the perfect solution.

[Q] Battery Issues

I am using MIUI 2.2.10 with Faux kernel, and have seen a severe battery drain issue. Before when i was on stock, i had the issue where Cell Standby would drain most of the battery. When i switched to MIUI, somehow that problem dissapeared. But now, i have been using the phone for 6 hours, most of it just texting, and when I started I was fully charged. Now I am at 29%. I checked the Battery Stats and it said Display was taking up 73% of this battery drain. I have no idea what could possibly be causing this because i had the brightness on low, and yet i played music for 30 minutes and that didn't even show up on the list of things draining the battery. Could someone explain this to me?
First off how low is low?
It may not show music, it isn't that draining. Display is a big one, it will eat the heck out of your battery. Either start carrying your cable with you everywhere, or get the 3500 MAh battery.

I personally think it looks really bulky and ugly.
There are other alternatives like extended bateries that fit the original phone backcover. I would check the Accessories section for more info.

.I purchased a 3500 mah battery and am loving it. I the only problem I'm having is that when. I turn off my phone, and the battery still drains... It lost 70 percent in 8 hours while it was fully powered off.... I don't know why

Faulty battery.
The % in the Battery Stats is not how much battery is used. The screen at 73% means it was on 73% of the 6 hours which is 4.38 hours of the 6. If you add all the numbers in Battery stats it will be over 100.

Bad Battery life or Bad Battery on Nexus 5 with 5.1

Hello,
I've searching for like 2 months about problems with battery life and Lollipop with nexus 5. I understand the issues but since it was released, i never had much problems with it. I used to have 2h SOT for like 40% battery or so.
My daily routine allowed me to reach home with a bit more than 50% battery with 2h SOT more or less. (a lot of messaging on viber/whatsapp)
But something changed since 1 and half months ago. I can no longer do the same and it seems that i have a CONSTANT battery drain. I remember when i unplugged my phone i would reach my workplace (1:30h after unplug) i would have like 2-4% less battery depending on the usage. Currently when i get out of home the battery is already at like 92% or more depending on the usage. If i let the phone stay idle all the time, i usally get home with 30-40% battery now. I'm already thinking that my battery has gone bad. This started to happen from one day to another and i never let the battery stay too much below 30% usually, but nowadays it's impossible to predict the battery life since some days it seems to drain more than others.
I've used some apps to monitor the usage but i really don't understand much about it and can't seem to find a pattern. I've already did factory reset with all Lollipop versions and i remember doing a KK regression for some hours but the drain seemed like it was still there (can't use KK on my nexus 5 anyway, it feels weird after Lollipop experience ) but i didn't even fully charged the battery as i remember. Anyway if it would be an app, there should be some kind of logging in battery stats which doesn't, and i can't think about anything else.
I finally gave up and decided to ask help here, since i don't know what else to do. I'm actually leaning towards getting a nexus 6 but after reading about so many issues (screen/battery life/burn-in) i'm not sure what else i can do with my nexus 5.
If anyone can give me a hint i'd be very grateful
PS: already tried Cataclysm ROM and using currently ElementalX kernel. I notice a bit better battery life with ElementalX but i think the pictures speak for themselves.
Judging by that constant drain with very little shown awake time I'd install Better Battery Stats and check for kernel wakelocks. I had a similar situation with a wake lock from using a wireless charger that did not show in the regular battery stats.

i already installed it before, but currently don't have it installed. I have Wakelock Detector app i can post a screenshot if helps
Installed Better Battery Stats, i'll post results tomorrow (battery at 19% already).
As promised, there's still some battery left but i didn't even use the phone today mostly... in days like these i should be over 70% as usual or maybe close to 80% that i remember.

I feel your pain...when I was on Kitkat, I'd get to work running just Waze and Pandora and my battery life would be at 80%. Installed Lollipop 5.1 and now half way through my trip (15 minutes of use) the phone shuts down with a dead battery. Maybe it's just a coincidence that my battery decided to give up the ghost at the same time I install 5.1, but I find that very odd...the phone is only a 1.5 years old...lithium battery's tend to last 2+ years and even then they don't fall off a cliff in terms of capacity. At this point I think I'll buy a new battery and see what happens, LG OEM are about $25 on Amazon.

First 10% drains faster than the rest

Strange observation, but one I noticed on my Pixel 2XL before as well. My 3a seems to drain faster down to say 88-89% from 100 than it does for the rest of the charge. I get about 40 minutes of SOT from the first 10-12%, which isn't great. But then overall I still average 7 hours of SOT over a full charge.
Anyone else noticed this?
Also, does adaptive battery reduce or increase battery? I've had it on since I got the phone, just turned it off to see if it makes any noticeable difference.

Yes, it does and gets better with time. It takes a month or more (depending on your number of apps) to learn how often you use your apps and limit apps you don't use often.
Run a battery benchmark that drains the battery and observe the battery percentage during the process. It should be linear.
If it's not, then the most logical explanation is that the battery is not properly calibrated.

Yes i have same issue,but now I'm used to it i guess it is a similar reason why iOS lasts so longer in range of 100-80 and then starts dropping faster i.e company wants user to feel like battery is lasting longer(iOS) and on pixel the battery stays longer in 80-30 region. Not sure about it just my theory about weird optimization by companies.

New battery health

I’m curious about battery health as reported by Accubattery (I can’t find the battery health stat in the phone itself). I’ve had the 4a 5-6 days and the health is at 97% (3048/3140). Is that normal?
I had some issues with battery drain at first, getting around 4.5 hours (a few people here pointed out it’s likely due to it not being on wifi). But I did a factory reset and it seems to be doing better (now I’m on track for ~6).
I‘ve read battery health numbers aren’t super accurate so I imagine some fluctuation is normal. Just trying to verify whether I’ve lost 3% battery life in a week. Thanks!

Li's like being use in their mid range; short midrange cycles/more frequent partial charges.
High cell voltage and high temperatures cause premature wear. Accubattery is encouraging this partial charge strategy although it's not necessary accurate.
Don't charge your battery to 100% very often.
80% is better, 64-70% is best.
Don't discharge past 20%, a low limit of 30-40% is best.
Never charge if battery is below 40F.
Avoid starting a charge if battery is below 72F whenever possible.
Low temp charging can cause Li plating which will permanently degrade the cell.
Avoid charging over 100F.
75-90F is best
Fast charging causes no harm.
cool thanks. accubattery went from 97% to 98% a few days later so I don't think it's super accurate. I've never had it say 100% on this new battery though so I'm worried it's a bit low but oh well. Thanks all.

First you need to set whatever is the actual capacity of the battery. Accubattery will use the capacity that the Android is reporting, typically 4170 for a 4300 ma battery in the Note 10+ case.
It's wrong; but Android is the culprit in this case.
Accubattery is a very useful apk. It adjustable alert when charged to X% is great. It also logs net power charging/discharging. I use it for battery temp too.
People expect too much out of it.
I doubt it's low, in fact it may well have a slightly higher than rated capacity. Take care of it and you can milk years out of it. Frequent midrange charges, and watch the heat.
If the phone battery temp when using gets into the high 90's, cool it down. I use a damp microfiber cloth or rag.
At a battery temp of 102F I screen off the device.

Info is misleading, outdated (overlooks recent battery refinements) and originally based on much larger packs used in laptops, etc. Mobile devices discharge frequently, rarely spending significant time at high charge levels. Laptops are often tethered to a desk and charger for extended periods.
While there's nothing amiss with avoiding extremes one should not feel compelled to carry around a damp microfiber cloth (lol) to cool the phone when it reaches body temp. Yep, battery capacity may drop 10% over the life of the device by not getting panties in a knot over thermals. It's just a phone ...

This has nothing to do with laptops although on my e6400 you can software disable battery charging at will.
The Li battery weakness is it's user. Any time it's taken to a full charge you are doing substantially more damage than a 64% top off. One full charge cycle vs >1/20% a full charge cycle.
That's a lot of lost life.
You'll get about 2 years out of it or less with your plan if you're a heavy user.
Rather inept management when you could get years more...

Not really. The value it uses is from the Android OS its self which is inaccurate and constant.
In my case it is 4100 mAh.
On my original 4300 mAh battery it was off by 200 mAh, on the replacement 300. Assuming the battery was as speced. It could have even been over the speced value.
Depending on the battery temperature and the charge range Accubatter's estimate can vary by 200 even 300 mAh.
Set it so it will read 100% by entering the value Accubattery thinks it sees when the battery is fully charged. It makes it easier and less dissettling to track
In the course of the battery's life you'll probably end up reloading and losing the data but for short term monitoring it's very useful.
It's logging history is great for quickly spotting excessive battery usage or slow charging. With those considerations in mind it's a useful tool that doesn't consume very battery it's self.
After the Pro version is active I firewall* block it as it is constantly in internet contact otherwise... I don't need that. If you disable Playstore or Google play Services it will revert back to the free version unless firewall blocked I disable the former two most of the time so there's that.
That's my biggest complaint about it.
*Karma Firewall, a great freeware apk that uses almost no battery

When your SOT drops significantly and it's not because of excessive battery usage by apk(s), then you know you have a problem.
Heavily used phones will get about 1-2 years of usable battery life. I'll probably replace mine again at the 1 year mark.
If you want it to last longer only charge to 80-90%
Don't discharge below 30%
Li's like frequently midrange charge/discharge cycles. Frequent midrange partial charges prolong their life a lot.
Never charge if below 40°F
Do not charge below 72°F, 85-95F is the optimum start charge temperature.
Do not allow battery temperature to exceed 100F when charging, cool as needed.

One more question sir.
What is better for battery health charging 20 to 100% once or charging 20 to 80% twice in a day.

When your SOT drops significantly and it's not because of excessive battery usage by apk(s), then you know you have a problem.
Heavily used phones will get about 1-2 years of usable battery life. I'll probably replace mine again at the 1 year mark.
If you want it to last longer only charge to 80-90%
