OPO Rom for the Audiophile??? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Howdy OPO'rs....
Is there a custom or tweaked stock ROM solution that is preloaded with all of the best audio add-ons, prop tweaks, High Impotence headphone jack, ect?? A good example would be the Weda rom for the LG V20.... If not, I may have a project on me hands...
uno

I haven't seen such ROMs here but I would really like to try it out.
I mean 99% of the people here care only about the camera so the only one REAL difference in all the ROMs is a camera not music :c

Love to try to.

I don't think it is rom specific.Just flash an audio mod like Viper4Arise and boom!

Jgcaap cm13 has the highest volume gains, but no better quality than others..

Tugapowers builds have Viper4Arise baked in with the ROM already through Magisk:

One place for Sound issue resolvment (2/24/11)

I am starting this thread as I work through the sound issue. I will be doing trouble shooting and tracking of testing here as I do my root cause analysis. Do to my work schedule I will need help from the community on ruling out the cause and getting down to the bottom of the sound issue.
So step 1 is to try and narrow down the cause. I have some ideas but need some testing first.
So here is what we know.
1. Sound is fine at stock
2. DHD roms don't have any audio with out custom kernel
3. Sound quality is bad on DHD roms with custom kernels to enable audio.
What I need to know to start.
1. Is sound ok on stock rom with custom kernel (2 confirmed audio fine on custom kernel with stock rom)
2. If using stock kernel on DHD rom is all audio gone or just for phone calls(still need to know this)
Start of testing
Again due to my time limits as of right now I am gonna have to rely on the community for my testing.(I do apologize).
I'm downloading Android revolution to look at whats in the zip after that I will be posting some more things to test. I have some ideas as to what the problem is. Unfortunatly lunch is over for me so back to work. Check back I will be updating again in a couple of hours.
If any one is willing to help please look into testing those 2 things.
I am pouring through the kernel source in the little bit of free time I have.
I will be handling this like I would an issue at work so some my be monotonous but thats how I work. So bear with me and we'll get this issue sorted out.
Also if some one would like to create a public google docs to allow people to post rom, kernel, and state of sound with that setup that to would be great. Hopefully work will slow down soon so I can devote more time. Also anybody else currently looking into sound fix can post ideas, info and test here to help keep the forums from getting cluttered from the same type of post, but thats up to you.
I'll flash the kernel over my stock rom and let you know. Stand by
# 1 is true, I used Bumble-Bee's kernel on attn1's stock rooted rom and the sound was perfect. Zero distortion in calls or audio playback through headphones. I am using some high end equipment to listen, so I would hear distortion if it was there. No idea on # 2, however.

Ok if thats true then we should be able to rule out kernel. That means its something in the rom. Ok lets get a few more test in and rule that out before I move on to the next idea.

I've heard it may be the lib files being out of date on DHD ROM's. I can't vouch for it, but it does seam reasonable.

Interesting.
Stock Kernel Audio fine
Stock ROM with Apache14's Buzz Sense 1.30 Overclocked to 1.2 GHZ Audio sounds the same as Stock kernel and audio.
I rooted using attn1 hack but flashed the Revolution HD ROM .14 first. Sound seemed a little iffy, but not too bad. I then flashed Revolution HD ROM .15 Mike just released and the sound seems pretty good when I call my voicemail.

Confirming what I said. Same exact setup.
The sound issues are not in the kernel. They're in the csv files. We're looking at it. But they aren't compatible with DHD roms. They kill the mic.

are we sure there in the cvs and which ones are you speaking of.
So when sound "breaks", do the Dolby Mobile and SRS effects become unselectable on the HTC music player? Does selecting them do nothing to the audio? Or do they work just fine? Are those functions built in as simply an audio enhancement or something deeper?

Yes I'm sure.
There is no difference in the AIC3254_reg.csv files, there is a differnce in AIC3254_REG_DualMic.csv plus stock has an additional files AIC3254_REG_Dualmic_MCLK.csv and AIV3254_REG_XD.csv
Ok for a test some one do this on a DHD rom with sound issues
Download this zip and push the three files there to system/etc
DL link http://www.mediafire.com/?p1oiiqo26c5z37j
Be sure to backup the AIC3254_REG_DualMic.csv before pushing so you can revert back by removing the three files and pushing your backup back.
See if that fixes.
Again sorry for not being able to test myself atm.
Using CM7 RC1 DHD with attn1's kernel installed, after installing your files I hear no noticeable differences in sound quality.

You are correct I haven't downloaded cm7 to check file differences there.
Edit: I have found some more difference related to sound. I will attach to this post. There is a directory called soundimage in system/etc that needs to be replaced and all other files moved to system/etc as before. This is for DHD sense roms. Might work on cm7 not sure at this time.
I would have to think that the audio quality issue has to do with AMR-HR and AMR-FR codecs, no?
ROM: HTC Inspire 4G 2.0.15
Replaced files on my phone with files from the sound.zip file. Definitely sure that the original was deleted before pushing the replacements.
No noticeable difference in audio quality through phone speaker, or Mic when I leave myself a voicemail.

[Q] Headphone Audio quieter after 2.2?

After the update to stock 2.2 I noticed the headphone audio out is quieter than it was on stock 2.1. (Yes you can suggest a custom ROM but for my purposes I need to remain on stock). Has anyone else noticed this?
I've found several posts referring to the audio quality in 2.1 being low quality. Is there an audio specific kernel that controls the audio quality and output gain? If so, is it possible to change out only the audio kernel without flashing a custom ROM? As a heads up I'm already rooted.
Thanks in advance.

YES you can change the kernel to a different one but what ever kernel you decide you need a matching modem & Kernel so Cappy to Cappy...i9000 to i9000. Just keep in mind you need to change out your recovery.

Turning my HTC Inspire into a overglorified media player

I've had my HTC Inspire for about 2 years and I've finally replaced it with a new phone. I was thinking about using my Inspire as a music player in the car. Are there any ROMs that people recommend that would be light weight, minimal features, and good for what I want it to do, especially for my aging battery?
Thanks in advance.

tons of options on roms but I don't know that it needs a rom for it... I use mine for music A LOT with a good set of cans (big headphones) and my IME's depending on what i'm doing... I can say that when I flashed to a few of the jellybean roms that my sound quality went to crap... I ended up going back to a stock ICS rom and am happy
if the stock player works for you it would be easy enough to just keep the phone plugged in and use it as is, pick up a big SD card and enjoy your music
Any CM 7.2 variant would give you the best sound quality & battery life

Yeah, I was using CM10.1 and it burned through battery pretty fast. I think I'll give an older CM version a try. Thanks!

rom suggestion guyzzz

sup guys! I was out of this dev section from a while (got a one x and now a one, HTC FTW) and now my GF got a sensation...
I need a suggestion for a stable bugless rom with sweep2wake and toggles...the fastest you have...or she will leave me, because of the bugs I put in her phone..."you ruined my phone! I want my galaxy w back!! this phone has bugs!!!!" and throws things...
I was looking for albino's cm10.1 (since 10.2 is not so smooth and drains too much battery and cm11 is too buggy now), is there any other ROM I should look for?
hope I made you laugh with this post lol, I was joking about the leaving thing, but she's really pissed off because of my modding addiction...XD and I really need help, I don't know how roms are.
thank you all guys

Sense 3.6 is the last one that looks like a real Sense, everything later lost it's point.
Outdated-maybe, best working-definitely. You said you need something bugless. If you want something newer go with MIUI, it's 4.2.2, you have patched sultan kernel with ION for it (and it also works perfectly with the stock kernel).
I would go for Viper 3.1.4 cos it have full tweaks.

After using CM for a long time I got tired of the battery barely holding a day and decided to go back to the legendary ARHD and it's still the best rom for this phone in my opinion! If you're looking for stability, performance and good battery life, ARHD is definitely the way to go.
I don't really care about the Sense version. I use Apex Launcher and it pretty much looks almost the same like the CM roms I used except for the way the notification bar looks like which is fine with me.
In addition to flashing the rom I also flashed the Battery Percentage Fix / No Recent Apps / Extended Quick Settings, one of the Battery Percentage Mods, the Advanced Power Menu and the HQ Camera which takes much better pics than CM does by the way.
All current apps are working great and I'm glad I'm back using this rom. There's definitely no need to have the latest and newest software on your phone.

On my sensation I'm happy with [ROM][Android 4.4.2][Camera works] CM11 with ION [...]
If you prefer JB [ROM][Android 4.3.1][Camera works] CM10.2 with ION [...]
Cm 10 is really stable
ViperS 3.1.4: very good Sense JB ROM with tweaks and so on. I got only a little bug with headphones. If you use headphones without mic, and so need to talk into the phone's mic, then sometimes you are not able to send your speech...you receive very well, but you're not able to talk.(Before someone asks, I use very high quality headphones but unfortunately they are without mic. Listening a lot of music by my mobile during the day, this to talk into the phone's mic is the only way to continue my habits.)
Elegancia: very good Sense ICS ROM with some tweaks (less than ViperS). No bugs found by me, good battery life, but glitches with Maps 7.0, due to hacks in adreno libs. You must downgrade app to Maps 6 (anyway, link is provided in the thread).
CM 10.1 & 10.2 (albinoman, a1-7, etc.): no-Sense ROM, good performance, a lot of available modifications and personalizations, but camera quality is not as Sense ROM, no way to obtain same quality. In some cases, camera app FC, and that's could be a very annoying thing when you want to capture that exact moment!
Actually I use ViperS 5, a Sense 5 JB ROM. No bugs (neither the one with the headphones), good quality pictures, no tweaks (at least, for the moment). IMHO Sense 5 is not so great because of a sort of "relaxing" in design (someone likes that, mine is only an opinion), but this ROM is the one able to give me what I desire at the moment, even if not at all. I'm waiting for a stable CM11 (albinoman's, dominos', a1-7's, no matter whose) with a no bug camera: I tried some version: speed is terrific (it seems like to have a brand 2014 new phone in your hand), and available tweaks/personalizations will be enough to let me forgive the bad quality of the camera.
Everything I wrote, obviously, is from my experience, so someone could be not agree with me.
Which cm11 to choose
Hi - Which CM11 version do you recommend guys? I saw that there are two which are frequently updated:
- [ROM] CyanogenMod 11.0 | Android 4.4.2 KitKat [KANG] [Jan-15]
- [ROM][Android 4.4.2][Camera works] CM11 with ION [Jan 9, 2014]
I am going to install it to one of my friends phone who is not going to tinker it so I would like to install the better one. Currently he has cm10.1 on it from albinoman, which runs fast but it frequently has bugs during calls so that one needs to be replaced by a better room.

IMHO don't install CM11 ROMs, then... They are not completely stable (camera doesn't work properly, and there are some bugs to be fixed).
Try a CM10.2 from albinoman or from a1-7 (sense-less), or a ViperS5 (Sense 5). No or few bugs at all, stability and speed... CM11 has to be improved a little to be considered a good daily driver.
Thanks for the tip. I will go for cm10.2 then. Android1-7's rom seems to be updated more frequtently so I chose that one.

As I always say when I address these kind of threads, your best option is always to test the ROMs for yourself and decide based on your findings.
This is always the most ideal option because only you will know what you truly want out of a ROM and everyone is simply giving opinions, which honestly have no impact on what you choose anyway.
What's ideal for you may be complete rubbish for someone else + there could be an amazing ROM which you miss out on due to the fact that no one suggested it.
As these threads generally lead to fanboy arguments, however, these kind of threads are against the rules.
Therefore, Thread Closed.

Nexus 5 looking for a ROM...

Hi, I'm looking for a stable ROM, there are tons of ROMs out there based on kitkat 4.4.x and the new Lolipop. I've had a look at some ROM's such as Euphoria and Chroma, I haven't actually flashed them yet as I'm currently running CM11 M11. But unfortunately I have some issues with Greenify and the picture/video quality is bad compared to e.g. stock Kitkat 4.4.4 with HDR+.
If there's a camera module with HDR and better picture quality I don't mind flashing this, as CM11 has more features than I use. But if there's no module than my question is what ROM would you guys recommend?
It has to have/be;
-Stable
-Good GSM/GPS Signal
-Good Battery Life, CM11 running on ART during night in idle only takes arond 2% battery so thats around 8-10h. The battery lasts me around 2-3 days on average, last time I managed to get just over 4 days.
-Good Camera, preferably with HDR+
-Simple, I'm looking for a ROM which is simple and quick/lightweight.
I'm not a fan of lolipop thats why I'm still running CM11 and not CM12, but I'll just use Nova Launcher and get some themes for it to make it look more appearing.
You should be able to flash the google camera addon from pa gapps, if you find it.
As you might know we cannot be judges of 'best' ROMs on XDA (or make competitive comparisons of ROMs to a certain extent e.t.c.), so personally I'm afraid I cannot help you.
If you are really in demand of an answer for this, then try one of the not heavily modified AOSP ROMs, which should do the job on your desired criteria with regards to the choices.
My own personal picks would be Terminus & RastaPop because I have gotten used to the clean work done by the devs, and source code is awesome - however that is my choice and the 'best' ROM for you is only for you to decide for yourself.
Please also use the Q&A section as necessary.

I've flashed the gapps provided by CM for the CM11 ROM and I have installed the Google Camera from the PA. But the HDR option is missing from the menu and the picture quality compared to stock 4.4.4 or 5.0.1 is worse and not as sharp. I've tried to search for a solution to this and some people seem to flash the camera module from Motorolla, but even though some people managed to get the HDR, the camera just crashes once you try to select it or that oprion is just simply missing.

Tbh IMHO there's no best ROM, well that's my experiance over the years with different phones. You can have a ROM which suits most of your needs, but it might not do the same for another person that's why we have a great choice of great ROM's to pick from. It's the same with cars, you can't just say that one car is the best. An example would be a performance car which does 80-90mpg with a better sunspension than a e.g. Bentley. That's impossible, you can't have everything so you go for the car whicch ticks most of the boxes on your criteria list. That's why I listed what things I'm looking for from the ROM, I'm not asking for the best ROM, not sure where you got the idea from?
P.s. Thanks for the request, I wasn't sure were to post this. It was either Q&A or General.
Edit:
Is the newer lolipop stabler than 4.4.4? I'm not a fan of lolipop as it looks like a bad copy of iOS IMHO and the amount of issues I had with the early versions 5.0-5.0.2 put me off a bit. But thankfully android is a very customizable system and so I can make lolipop look decent, so not that much of a problem.

Dalvik is nonexistent in Lollipop.
Due to changes in ART Xposed is RIP in 5.1, but 3.0 alpha 1 & 2 work on 5.0.X

I didn't know that, thanks for the info. Is there an alternative to Xposed on Lolipop 5.1 R3?
Tbh, I still haven't flashed anything. I'm thinking of just flashing stock 5.1 R3, but I'm still seeing numbers of threads about the problems with lolipop.
So ultimately what ROM would you guys recommend keeping in mind; stability, good battery life, good signal/gps and decent camera with HDR? I'm not asking for the best one, just for a ROM that ticks those boxes and is not overdone.
I can see quite a few issues with the elementalx that have been appearing for the past couple days, the camera on CM11 sucks especially since there's no HDR option.
