J3 Emerge (J327P) Rooting - Which are best files for system-less root and xposed? - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) Questions & Answers

OK, so, heres the situation, I got the new J3 Emerge (J327P) from Boost Mobile in effort to cut down cell costs and such. Its a decent phone but I am looking to root it. So I started looking up how to root it and such and came up with a pretty simple guide from google results. It is basically flash TWRP with ODIN then flash SuperSU from TWRP. Simple enough.
Now on my old phone I also had Xposed and loved it so I check and apparently you have to flash that in TWRP as well THEN install the APK? This is kinda where I start getting confused on things too. After looking through some other random pages online pertaining to rooting and xposed for this phone, some pages mentioned "system-less" root and xposed. Another page mentioned Magisk as well.
My question I guess really is which files are gonna give me the best end result of having (obviously) custom recovery, full root (with ability to, if needed disable at will), Xposed fully working (again, with the ability, if needed, to disable at will)?
Some links Ive come across but not read fully cause theyre simply too long.....

My sister plays Pokemon Go and so I was looking up how to run it on a rooted phone for her and saw this:

She has same exact phone as me.
In closing, I am familiar with how to use ODIN and the basics of TWRP. I just want to know which files are gonna give me the best end result for what I want.

The best combinaison is :
- TWRP.
- Magisk v14 (it gives you a lot of possibilities including hiding root and pass safetynet).
- In Magisk Manager you can install Xposed module within it. (but it will trip your safetynet).
That's it

So if I got this straight I flash or install the following in this order?
twrp-3.1.0-1-j327p-14317
Magisk-v14.0(1400) (Which I see includes Magisk Manager 5.3.0?) (from inside TWRP)
Reboot
Open Magisk Manager and install Xposed from there? Or can I flash inside TWRP the wanam Xposed? Is that even needed?

the latest magisk can patch your boot.img. it will flash in odin with no problems. this is the alternative to using twrp. i do not own a j3 emerge but I own a J3 prime with device model SM-J327t1 which has a locked bootloader and is unrootable currently. hope this helped.

Xposed Status Update for J700T

In searching around for the best (and safest -- recoverable) method for flashing Xposed on an already rooted J700T, I'm seeing a lot of conflicting info. Use FlashFire. Don't. Burn the 32-bit Xposed. No, use the 64! (huh, doesn't the J700T run a 32 bit 6.0.1?) Use this Xposed image. No! Use this one. Have this image available in case something goes wrong and you need to get out of boot loop through recovery. No, that won't work, use this one. And so on.
Could somebody please summarize where we stand on installing Xposed in a stock ROM, rooted J700T, as of today, in terms of best practices? Thanks!
I asked around before to the ones who were using Xposed and got no response either. That was weeks ago. I was going to post what they were using so others will have that information.
Yes the ROM is 32 (dual 32 is what the claim is) but the kernel is built using arm64. Go figure.
I also looked into a magisk Xposed setup so Android pay and Pokemon go would work.
If you haven't got an answer or figured it out yet, I will wipe this phone and start from scratch and post a guide on what and how to install by Saturday.

I was thinking more like a clear cut guide so there will a specific thread to look at instead of combing through a ROM/recovery thread looking for Xposed.
Thank you @mario1634 for helping out.

Magisk systemless xposed is probably the best way at the moment to have root and xposed.
Little chance of bricking and totally reversible plus with added benefits.

That it is but I have had previous issues with magisk on other devices where my normal root apps not see me as root. I don't use xposed but if the people want it, I will help in getting the info they need.
As far as having android pay and other useful features of systemless (which supersu is now) root is more important for which I extend my middle finger to Niantic.

This your Xposed to flash through twrp.
Save to external SD card then flash from recovery. May take a few minutes to boot.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591000424962808
This is your Xposed installer apk. Save to external SD card.

Flash Xposed zip in recovery (twrp) first.
Then after you have booted up, install Xposed installer apk (must go to settings and allow unknown sources).
All modules and framework downloads are at your own risk. There are a lot of tweaks that only work with certain devices and certain Roms. Do your homework and research anything that interests you in Xposed.
I personally don't use Xposed so what modules and tweaks are best is not in my knowledge base right now.
All information came from this site

There is an uninstaller on that page in case you feel that Xposed is not for you.

I personally have magisk and systemless xposed installed perfectly on my system. Easiest way to do this is to go to the official xda magisk thread and install the manager and then install magisk. then install xposed via the magisk manager. make sure you download the right xposed manager app which you can find in the official thread as well. so far so good and i am running this on a debloated stock samsung rom.
Basically, because of Samsung new ART runtime, official xposed flash dont work. You have to use an unofficial mod to xposed it.
One of them is the custom-build-by-wanam that @OriginalShinken1 linked above.
P.S: Worked on my J700H stock 6.0.1

I personally use systemless xposed on my j7 and have had no issues. i do not use it for all that much customization but the few modules that i do use it for work great.

I have uploaded the files to google drive. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B9SW1On-CcCac09VTzd5TW5kcnc?usp=sharing First you have to install the apk, then you can download the zip from the app, or just flash the zip that I've included in the folder. It's the same as If you downloaded the latest miui version from the app.
Using the xposed links above, running on 8.2.1, with super su https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&r...kSiKyUIbkp6Is7kZQ&sig2=nDsK9Xa-mZPzLXoVrHAqcg
phones running sweet. I tried 2 newer super su though had issues with no mtp connection, though with super su 2.6.5..... working a charm, can confirm lucky patcher (latest version) so far has worked flawlessly, no bootloops or lags...
(post write up, found this rom juice hungry after a week or so, with xposed then went epic) must be xposed I thinking.
.
Using eur rom 8.1.3 (after trying global x 2 and epic)
Not using to many apps, phone set up to save battery, cpu on power save etc.
Again my phone battery life sucks big time, seem to spend ages to charge, and depletes in a day.
I have perhaps 10 or more xposed apps, which I like for mods, though feeling maybe miui not really suited to xposed as it's a modified xposed.
Thinking this is the cause of battery drain. Anyone members thinking the same?
I am not using magisk on this rom, though have used it, using the modified version with thanks, though thinking no thanks to using it and uninstalling and perhaps reflashing the rom, or trying another.
Thanks in advance for help re this. Sick of battery drain.
Had similar amount of xposed apps on J5 and battery was ok/good.
Is miui not good with xposed for battery? , Despite the fact it does work

As i told you before that do not use Xposed on This Device ? its draining the battery too fast. so what you have to do is that just install a new ROM from Start and then Root it Using Majisk, and then Greenify. you will enjoy the battery Life then.

How do you install Majisk if you already have root with SuperSU?Do you have to uninstall first SuperSU and install Majisk after? There isn't any good info about making the replacement. Also why Majisk is better than SuperSU and what is the difference?

Well if your device is already rooted then it's ok but why is it important to replace SU with Majisk. So because SU binary are out dated and if you update it, then you will loose the MTP connection with the PC. And only charging work. You cannot communicate with the your device through PC. If you want to go to Majisk over SU then just unroot from SU menu and the install Majisk and then download the latest binary and then reboot device to TWRP and flash the binary and you have done.

I already had the problem with mtp connection even without updating SuperSU.I solved that by adding some lines on build.prop but i don't like this solution. It's very strange that SU binary is outdated, what are these SuperSU updates do then?Anyway, thanks for the answer!

Only if you don't know what your doing. You must be smarter then the device you are trying to use.

need a special custom ROM

hello,
i need a suggestion for a ROM that should have the following properties:
root should be switchable (on/off) and hidden
saftynet should be OK
security Patchlevel less March 2017
These things are needed to play pokemonGo, yes i know this time and effort for a game but i like it.
so help is very appreciated
If you root via Magisk it can hide root and pass safetynet so long as you're not using Xposed, which you should be able to do on any ROM of choice
If you need Xposed you can use the Magisk systemless module, and turn it off and on as required
Build it yourself? The people on xda aren't your rom-maker-slaves. Figure out yourself.
@000Nick: i dont be searching for slaves only for People which are smart enough to help others. (i'm not to be able to build my own)
@Beanvee7: i had many problems with a superman rom and magisk. result was a bootloop, recover to stock and 2 days of work and cold sweat.
That's because i ask for help and recommendation for a ROM that fulfilled my expectations.
in the past i am using a CM13_by_temasek for my S3 and it work like a charm, now i am searching the same for my S7 but it seems to be much harder to find something that works the same easy way.
I use superman with magisk, so can't offer reasons why it would bootloop
@Beanvee7: maybe my own foolishness.
1. i install cfautoroot with ODIN
2. i install TWRP manager from playstore and installed TWRP
3. i installed Superman ROM 1.9.1
till then all worked fine
then i tried to switch off root in Superuser. in Superuser it shows me "deactivated" but every App could become root.
next try was to activate magisk hide but it doesnt hide root. i tested with saftynet check and in any Android test app (come with superman) shows me root too
next i checked the unload "superuser module" (only unload not delete) in magisk manager, this removes root but saftynet test is still not OK
next i tried to activate the load of the superuser module but thats not possible.
after that, i reboot to recovery and now i got errors and run into a loop shows me something about FRP Lock
nothing else worked than going to download mode and flashing a stock Rom back.
and all of that, including the restore of all my apps and configure many things that could not restored (twice) busy me for two days.
possibly i selected the wrong options in aroma installer but i have no idea what i made wrong and why it doesnt work for me (hide root and let saftynet be OK)
but i do not want to try it again if i am not sure to do it for a last time because it is to much time i have to spend for that.
and every time i loose a little bit of my apps/gamescores and so on.

The way you worded it suggests that you need a rom custom mode for you. You said you need a "special rom" which would be the incorrect thing to say if there are other time like it.

i revised it in my first post and hope it is better now.
thanx for your advise.

Root majisk vs supersu, does supersu root 8.1 or not?

Hi all. Have come across a few threads which are indicating that 8.1 can be rooted by flashing supersu via OTG USB. Then the external are others who say it's not possible.
Does anyone know of circumstances where they or someone they've read about has successfully flashed supersu in this manner (OTG USB)?
I highly recommend using magisk as it has an easy universal installer and comes w much more features than SuperSU along with a module repo to add functionality to your device
SuperSU did a great job, but now it's kinda dead. Magisk has a lot more support and updates, also is more easy to manage/update. I really recommend Magisk.
I am able to easily get majisk to install but it won't work with a majority of the app I frequently used such as wifi-tetherAP, ti backup, and few others. The apps will install and root permissions are granted but apps don't work as they should.
Why do they not play nice w majisk?

They work fine for me. Do you also have the magisk manager app to actually allow the su prompts cuz I know a few times when I flashed magisk the app never showed up and I had to manually install it

You cannot root 8.1 with supersu. You have to use magisk. And Magisk works great.
Unfortunately chainfire has retired from the scene, at least for now, and there are obviously tensions with the new Chinese owners of supersu. Supersu is not being updated and the new owners are nowhere near as responsive to users as chainfire was. He's a big loss. And magisk has its own advantages. It's systemless, works reliable and great with 8.1 and is frequently updated. I would switch to magisk. Its the future when rooting your phone.

You cannot root 8.1 with supersu. You have to use magisk. And Magisk works great.

Thanks for the in depth explanation regarding chain fire, supersu, and the Chinese. Such a shame they got the privilege to assume such a legendary tool for Android and they don't have the decency to support it as it should be. Alas, all great things must come to an end. Looks like it's time to7 move along and embrace the future, as you said, and get on board w majisk.
My only issue w majisk is that several of my favorite apps, the most needed one being AP-tether w root, does not work properly w majisk. It will start but other devices can not "see" the network. I've made sure that it's not hidden.
At a loss to understand why majisk can't get this app to work like supersu did... Anyone have any thoughts?

Have you tried a clean install? Start all over with latest Feb factory image, full wipe, Inc data and then flashing twrp, magisk etc? Can't think of anything else. Magisk doesn't pass safety net so Google pay doesn't work, but give it time. Magisk is your only root option anyway on 8.1 whether you like it or not.

Fire HD 10 and Magisk?

Hey everyone -
I have a Fire HD 10 (2017 model) that is successfully rooted with SuperSU. I am wondering if anyone has figured out how to gain root access with Magisk? All the tutorials I have found regarding the switch from SuperSU to Magisk involve flashing some zips in TWRP, which we can't do. Has anyone figured it out?
Ultimately, I'm trying to get DirecTV Now to work, but it doesn't play nicely with rooted devices. The Hide My Root app used to work, but it has stopped. If we can't get Magisk to work, I'd at least be happy if someone has advice on getting DirecTV Now working again!
I tried flashing Magisk 16.0 with 15.3 installer today and got stuck in bootloop. It flashed but would just boot to amazon logo over and over. Have a Ti Backup but it sucks. I'm sure there's a way through adb. I'm still learning. I wanna know the best way to flash any zip in general cause without FF TWRP or some other custom recovery im lost. I'm assuming you'd have to uninstall SuperSu anyhow. My 2 cents. Rebuilding new ROM now, I love spending hours doing the same thing ?. In hindsight I get better each time and find new hacks tricks etc.
You might be able to use tasker with a variation of the code in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/microsoft-intune-company-portal-t3611588/page12

Hide Rooting V1.7 is working for me. I rooted yesterday then realized Dtv now stopped working and had to scramble to fix it. So far that's the answer.

Sorry for any revival, but is that really possible? I don't really think so, because Magisk, is by definition Systemless, meaning that it doesn't affect the system in any way, but modifies the boot.img. And modifying the boot.img even a tiny bit results in a bootloop, because it fails signature verification. I would be glad to hear any ideas because when we manage to get our Amazon tablet rooted, I would prefer Magisk over anything as I always did, because it is open source and systemless.
Today I successfully rooted my HD8 2016 with SuperSu permanently. Install Magisk Manager but hesitate to install Magisk as afraid of boot loop. Is there any solution to "flash" audio mods zip files without Magisk or TWRP?

So far no. But don't worry. The HD 10 can be unlocked, it's just a matter of its done. Unfortunately, we don't have it easy. The HD 10 is built sorta convoluted. It's 64 but in some cases, 32 in the rest. Something's can't pick up on it. I have a thing or two I am working on. Unfortunately I am dead in the water PC wise until after 10 am. I need a new mouse. And I don't have a spare.
If anyone wants to help... mediatek uses their own fastboot executable, mtboot.exe. I still need to gather all the files to build it and or the binary (they aren't in the right places at all). But it would be nice if the mtboot.exe could be located somewhere on the web.
Also in the Amazon source code for the kernel, they left a potential honey pot. Datool, also known as fbtool. They left the module in their source, and I can't figure out why. In the source it lists some usb props, vendor and product IDs and lists three boot modes: unknown, brom, and preloader. It's also tied into sp flash tool somehow. When you compile the datool at the mediatek source, it will put the tablet into preloader mode. So prehaps it can also put it in brom. But if we can get datool to do a proper dump, we might be able to get SP flash tool working.
That's been my findings the past few days.
Now when I get a mouse, hopefully I will have the first test rom built today.

Sorry, this might be a stupid question. I am new to Magisk Manager.
Did you install both SuperSU and Magisk Manger on HD8 2016? Which one is managing the root access of APPs? How does it work?

The only thing we have available at the moment for flashing is flash fire, on the HD 10. I have magisk on a few devices. It's pretty cool once you get the hang of it. It's different and took me a while to get to the point of liking it. I think it will be amazing on the HD 10 because the hardware is great. I haven't tried it on my fire 7 yet. I don't have a rooted HD 8.

No, it's not. Same way many (arguably most) 64-bit devices behave in a 32/64 hybrid world. Someday 'everything' Android will be 64-bit or greater with 32-bit being religated to history - much 8/16-bit is today. Not there yet, especially on economy devices using older hardware. Amazon is not doing anything weird.

Only SuperSu manage the root access. Magisk manager without Magisk installed is only an app.

The SuperSu do the root management. Magisk manager is great on my phone, but it creates disaster on my HD 8 when testing the Magisk installing from the Manager. It made my HD8 boot loop at Amazon logo, no way to boot. I have to sideload the stock ROM then rooting again.

Wondering if your still looking into fbtool - I think your right about its potential in fixing bricks/installing roms. Got a link to the mtboot source still?
Brainstorming how to unbrick patched Fire 7's here:
Fire 7 (2019, mustang) unbrick, downgrade, unlock & root
Make sure to read this guide completely before starting. You will lose all data on the tablet, make a backup of important data before you start. What you need: - a Linux installation. Don't use a VM! Use a live USB, if you don't have Linux...

Currently thinking about fbtool and a custom lineage compile, with hacked secureboot, fastboot enabled lk.bin and a preloader which skips rpmb. Further info on mtk's fastboot implementation would be useful.
